Gary Webb was a journalist who wrote a series of articles entitled "Dark Alliance" for the San Jose Mercury News in 1996.

The stories exposed the CIA's backing of the Nicaraguan Contras. The Contras supplied "Freeway" Ricky Ross with cocaine through Nicaraguan exile Oscar Danilo Blandón. Ross built a drug empire by selling the product as crack from his Los Angeles base to multiple states across the country. Many believe this was the start of the crack-era in the United States.

Blandon was the CIA's link to the Contras.

The profits from these illegal dealings were then funneled back to the Contras, with the CIA's knowledge, to fund their war against the Nicaraguan government.

Ross was a pawn in all of this and had no knowledge of the Contras. He reportedly sold more than $33 million worth of crack a day. He was eventually brought down when Blandón set him up.

"Basically, Gary’s story was proven true," Ross told the Pasadena Weekly in 2010 after serving 14 years in prison. "They admitted they knew these guys were selling drugs. And I don’t believe Gary ever said in his report that the CIA was the actual perpetrators of the crime. But if you go with the conspiracy theory that the government uses to convict, the evidence that they had, you could convict on that evidence. A jury could find [the CIA] guilty."

In the upcoming film, The Messenger, the story will be brought to the big screen.

Jeremy Renner will portray Webb. Michael K. Williams takes on the role of Ross. Others starring in the film include Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Michael Sheen.

Michael Cuesta is the director.

The film is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2014. Check out the trailer below.

Video After The Jump

In this clip from his exclusive interview with VladTV, Cassidy witnessed Daylyt's now infamous interview with VladTV Battle Rap Journalist Michael Hughes, where he stated that he would "f*ck the sh*t out of Diddy." Safe to say, Cassidy was shocked by the clip and stated that "I don't play like that." Even though Daylyt was trolling when he made the statement, Cassidy pondered if he really is secretly gay, and initially shut down the thought of battling him.

However, Cassidy switched up his tune and stated that if the money is right, he'll battle anyone. If a battle with Daylyt is able to double, or triple his personal income, then he is definitely willing to do it. At the end of the day, Cassidy believes that the outcome of any battle he participates in will result in a victory for him, regardless of his opponents sexual preference.

The music video features a groundbreaking element - international sand artist Kseniya Simonova created an elaborate sand story that beautifully depicts the thought-provoking lyrics. Video After The Jump

The footage of Ray Rice knocking out his then fiancee, Janay Palmer, in an elevator at the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City has finally surfaced. The incident occurred on February 15, 2014.

TMZ obtained the surveillance footage that is sure to cause more second guessing of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's decision to only suspend Rice for two games and fine him $500,000.

12351084486?profile=original

Janay and Ray appeared to be arguing prior to stepping onto the elevator. Once inside Ray punches her. Janay moves towards him and he punches her again. She falls and hits her head against the elevator railing. The Baltimore Ravens player then drags her out of the elevator.

12351085088?profile=original

She remains unconscious for a period of time while lying face down in the entryway of the elevator. A security guard stands next to her. Janay eventually sits up with Ray's help, but is obviously still woozy.

12351085279?profile=original

Ray was charged with third-degree charge of aggravated assault. Prior to the trial he accepted a diversion program that permits certain defendants to avoid formal prosecution if they attend the program for a minimum of one year. If he completes the program the aggravated assault charge will be dismissed. However, the charge will remain on his record.

The couple has gone on to get married.

"It is disappointing that I will not be with my teammates for the first two games of the season, but that's my fault," Rice said in a statement released by Ravens via ESPN. "As I said earlier, I failed in many ways. But, Janay and I have learned from this. We have become better as a couple and as parents. I am better because of everything we have experienced since that night. The counseling has helped tremendously."

Should Rice have gotten suspended for more games?

**UPDATE**

The Baltimore Ravens have moved swiftly in light of the video of Ray Rice knocking out his wife Janay surfacing. The organization has taken the bold step of terminating the star running back's contract.

He's also been suspended indefinitely by the NFL. This could possibly end the 27-year old's career in the league. When or if he's reinstated not many teams will want to deal with the public relations nightmare that will come with signing him.

The Ravens drafted Rice in the 2nd round out of Rutgers in the 2008 draft. He's been one of the top players at his position over the last five years.

In 2012 he signed a new five-year contract worth roughly $40 million.

Video After The Jump

In April 2014, Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson commented on what should be done to then L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling after audio tapes of him espousing racist views leaked.

"There can be zero tolerance for what he said," Levenson told Fox Sports at the time. "Those were racist, bigoted remarks that we can't tolerate."

Today it's been announced that Levenson will be selling his own team following the revelation that he sent a racist email in 2012.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement on the matter Sunday morning, September 7.

12351071262?profile=original

Adam Silver

"Following Bruce Levenson notifying the league office this July of his August 2012 email, the NBA commenced an independent investigation regarding the circumstances of Mr. Levenson's comments.

Prior to the completion of the investigation, Mr. Levenson notified me last evening that he had decided to sell his controlling interest in the Atlanta Hawks. As Mr. Levenson acknowledged, the views he expressed are entirely unacceptable and are in stark contrast to the core principles of the National Basketball Association. He shared with me how truly remorseful he is for using those hurtful words and how apologetic he is to the entire NBA family – fans, players, team employees, business partners and fellow team owners – for having diverted attention away from our game.

I commend Mr. Levenson for self-reporting to the league office, for being fully cooperative with the league and its independent investigator, and for putting the best interests of the Hawks, the Atlanta community, and the NBA first.

We will be working with the Hawks ownership group on the appropriate process for the sale of the team and I have offered our full support to Hawks CEO Steve Koonin, who will now oversee all team operations.

The NBA and its teams have long had in place anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies in order to facilitate respectful and diverse workplaces. Earlier this summer, the league re-doubled its efforts by, among other things, making it mandatory for all league and team personnel to receive annual training on these issues."

12351071500?profile=original

Levenson also issued a statement.

“Over the past several years, I've spent a lot of time grappling with low attendance at our games and the need for the Hawks to attract more season ticket holders and corporate sponsors. Over that time, I've talked with team executives about the need for the Hawks to build a more diverse fan base that includes more suburban whites, and I shared my thoughts on why our efforts to bridge Atlanta's racial sports divide seemed to be failing.

In trying to address those issues, I wrote an e-mail two years ago that was inappropriate and offensive. I trivialized our fans by making clichéd assumptions about their interests (i.e. hip hop vs. country, white vs. black cheerleaders, etc.) and by stereotyping their perceptions of one another (i.e. that white fans might be afraid of our black fans). By focusing on race, I also sent the unintentional and hurtful message that our white fans are more valuable than our black fans.

If you're angry about what I wrote, you should be. I'm angry at myself, too. It was inflammatory nonsense. We all may have subtle biases and preconceptions when it comes to race, but my role as a leader is to challenge them, not to validate or accommodate those who might hold them.

I have said repeatedly that the NBA should have zero tolerance for racism, and I strongly believe that to be true. That is why I voluntarily reported my inappropriate e-mail to the NBA.

After much long and difficult contemplation, I have decided that it is in the best interests of the team, the Atlanta community, and the NBA to sell my controlling interest in the Hawks franchise.

Hawks CEO Steve Koonin will oversee all team operations and take all organizational reports as we proceed with the sale process.

I'm truly embarrassed by my words in that e-mail, and I apologize to the members of the Hawks family and all of our fans.

To the Hawks family and its fans, you have my deepest gratitude for the past ten years. Working with this team and its extraordinary executives, coaching staff, and players has been one of the highlights of my life. I am proud of our diverse, passionate, and growing legion of Hawks fans, and I will continue to join you in cheering for the best team in the NBA.”

Hawks owner: 'I can't be partners' with Sterling

Hanna Strong

Video After The Jump

An undated video showing a white Syracuse University soccer player hurling homophobic and racist slurs at a person filming her is causing controversy.

Hanna Strong, a senior, is seen on the tape arguing with a black male who has his hands up.

“If you touch me, it will be over,” Strong tells him before noticing she is being filmed. “Are you recording this? You faggot ass nigger. It’s bullshit. Call me out on saying the n-word? I don’t give a shit. Don’t record me saying this!”

12351075274?profile=original

Daryl Gross, Syracuse’s director of athletics, issued a statement on the student's comments.

“This type of intolerant and hurtful language, focused on both race and sexual orientation, is not part of the culture we seek to foster among our student-athletes and it has no place at Syracuse University,” Gross wrote. “Syracuse Athletics, as a strong and diverse part of this University community, has zero tolerance for these actions.”

Strong has been suspended indefinitely from the team sparking a debate on social media among the school's former and current black male athletes.

Gucci Mane will be heading home a year earlier from prison after a judge granted his request to have time served count towards his 39 month sentence. A request that was initially denied, according to TMZ.

The 1017 Brick Squad Records boss was initially jailed in September 2013 for two gun related incidents.

On September 12 police busted him for having a Taurus 45-caliber handgun and eight rounds of ammunition. On September 14, a friend flagged down a patrol car to report that Gucci was acting erratically.

When officers approached, he reportedly cursed and threatened them with a gun. Police arrested him and found a Glock 40-caliber handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition.

12350968297?profile=original

In August 2014 Gucci was sentenced to three years and three months in prison for the firearms charges. As part of a plea deal Gucci, real name Radric Davis, must seek mental health treatment when he is released. He must also pay a restitution of $5,000 and give up all firearms listed in the indictment.

He will be released in December 2016.
