Charlamagne Tha God gave "Donkey of the Day" for Monday, December 12, to Jason Stokes.
Stokes is a 41-year old firefighter from Endicott, New York, who allegedly set his house on fire while his wife and two teenage kids were inside.
A relative blamed the blaze on the "Black Lives Matter" movement because Stokes had a "Blue Lives Matter" flag in front of his house
Investigators soon concluded that Stokes actually started the fire and wrote the messages "lie with pigs, fry like bacon" on the home.
"We knew fairly soon into the investigation that he was a suspect, but that's not uncommon in any fire," Endicott Fire Chief Joseph Griswold told Time Warner Cable News. "You always have to look at the people who live there."
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The man who fatally shot retired New Orleans Saints defensive leader Will Smith faces a sentence of up to 40 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter during a trial that made spectators of some of the city's sports heroes.
Cardell Hayes was convicted of manslaughter Sunday night, ending a week-long trial in which the defendant insisted he only fired because the popular football star was drunk, violent and had grabbed a gun following a traffic crash on the night of April 9.
Smith was part of the Saints team that lifted the stricken city's spirits in the years after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, helping carry the team to a winning season in 2006 and a Super Bowl win four years later. His death at the hands of Hayes, 29, was stunning, even for a city where residents are accustomed to regular reports of gunfire deaths.
Hayes will be sentenced on Feb. 17. As bad as the conviction was for him, it could have been worse. He was tried on a second-degree murder charge that carried a mandatory life sentence.
Hayes also was convicted of attempted manslaughter for wounding Smith's wife, Racquel Smith.
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton walks with Will Smith's widow Racquel into Orleans Criminal Court for the trial of Cardell Hayes
"Because of the upcoming sentencing hearing, in which Racquel will provide a victim impact statement, she does not feel it is appropriate to comment on the facts of the case at this time," her lawyer said in an emailed news release. "The main focus of Will Smith's family is to see Mr. Hayes justly sentenced for the murder he so callously committed."
Hayes' family members and friends exited the court without commenting.
District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro said in a news release that he would have a news conference Monday.
Saints coach Sean Payton arrived at the courthouse and was present for the late Sunday verdict. Earlier, former Saints safety Steve Gleason, battling Lou Gehrig's disease, watched hours of closing arguments from his wheelchair in a center aisle of the courtroom. They were among a host of past and present Saints stars, including current quarterback Drew Brees and former running back Deuce McAllister, who attended proceedings at different points during the week.
That was one reason defense lawyer John Fuller had cautioned jurors Sunday against being "star-struck" by the NFL luminaries.
Hayes' defense lawyers said Smith's popularity led to a rush to judgment by police and prosecutors. Assistant District Attorney Laura Rodrigue said in turn that the defense was trying to smear Smith.
A pathologist report showed Smith was legally drunk with a high blood-alcohol level when he died at the end of a day in which he had spent time at the city's annual French Quarter Festival, a bar and two restaurants. He, his wife and two passengers were in his Mercedes SUV the night of the shooting. They were heading from New Orleans' Lower Garden District toward downtown when a series of events led to the shooting, beginning with Smith's vehicle appearing to lightly bump Hayes' Hummer — although the prosecution raised doubts that the two vehicles actually touched.
Hayes vehemently denied intentionally running into Smith's Mercedes SUV moments later — he said he was trying to dial 911 and didn't realize how close he was getting to Smith as he tried to report the apparent hit-and-run.
Hayes said he armed himself only after he and his own passenger were accosted by Smith and Richard Hernandez, a passenger in the Smiths' Mercedes.
Smith didn't initially notice the gun, Hayes said. At some point during the fast-unfolding melee, Hernandez alerted Smith to Hayes' gun, Hayes said under questioning from Fuller.
On cross examination, Assistant Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Napoli repeatedly noted that no other witness said Smith had a gun and that Hayes never told investigators he saw a gun in Smith's hands that night.
"I never gave a full statement to anyone," Hayes said.

U.S. intelligence officials have come to the conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, in an attempt to help Donald trump defeat Hillary Clinton, according to The Washington Post.
“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators. “That’s the consensus view.”
Trump and his transition team issued a statement Friday, December 9, dismissing the findings and slamming the CIA.
"These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction," the statement read in part. "The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest electoral college victories in history. "It's now time to move on and 'Make America Great Again'."
Former CIA counterterrorism analyst,Phil Mudd, finds Trump's response troubling.
"This is really depressing for an intelligence officer," Mudd says in a new CNN interview. "What we're seeing is a transition from campaign rhetoric into the Oval Office. On the campaign trail you can create facts. Is the president a native born American? The president had to have the humility to come out and say yes. And the president-elect eventually backed down. When the president-elect, Mr. Trump, didn't like the facts from the Department of Justice and the FBI ... FBI Director Comey saying he would not pursue the email investigation into Hillary Clinton. Attack the messenger."
"Now we're getting the same thing when we have a transition from the campaign trail. If I don't like the facts. If I want to cozy up to Russia. Let me attack the messenger," Mudd continued. "This not just the President of the United States. This is the leader of one of the three arms of government ... the executive branch. He has now before taking office told two elements of that executive branch; The FBI and the CIA that he doesn't trust them. This is unbelievable."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's order to intelligence officials for a full-scale review of campaign-season cyberattacks met with a cool reception from President-elect Donald Trump, whose transition team said it's "time to move on."
Trump has been repeatedly dismissive of the intelligence community's determination that Russia sought through hacking to disrupt the U.S. election, and Obama's new initiative was similarly brushed off at Trump Tower.
Trump's transition office issued a statement reflecting the deep divisions that emerged between his campaign and the intelligence agencies over Russian meddling. "These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction," the statement said. "The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It's now time to move on and 'Make America Great Again.'"
The investigation ordered by Obama will be a "deep dive" into a possible pattern of increased "malicious cyber activity" timed to the campaign season, White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Friday, including the email hacks that rattled the presidential campaign. It will look at the tactics, targets, key actors and the U.S. government's response to the recent email hacks, as well as incidents reported in past elections, he said.
The president ordered up the report earlier in the week asked that it be completed before he leaves office next month, Schultz said.
"The president wanted this done under his watch because he takes it very seriously," he said. "We are committed to ensuring the integrity of our elections."
The Washington Post reported Friday that the CIA has concluded that Russia aimed specifically to help Trump win the presidency.
The Kremlin has rejected the hacking accusations.
In the months leading up to the election, email accounts of Democratic Party officials and a top Hillary Clinton campaign aide were breached, emails leaked and embarrassing and private emails posted online. Many Democrats believe the hackings benefited Trump's bid.
Schultz said the president sought the probe as a way of improving U.S. defense against cyberattacks and was not intending to question the legitimacy of Trump's victory.
"This is not an effort to challenge the outcome of the election," Schultz said.
Obama's move comes as Democratic lawmakers have been pushing Obama to declassify more information about Russia's role, fearing that Trump, who has promised a warmer relationship with Moscow, may not prioritize the issue.
Given Trump's statements, "there is an added urgency to the need for a thorough review before President Obama leaves office next month," said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., senior Democrat on the House intelligence committee. If the administration doesn't respond "forcefully" to such actions, "we can expect to see a lot more of this in the near future," he said.
The White House said it would make portions of the report public and would brief lawmakers and relevant state officials on the findings.
It emphasized the report would not focus solely on Russian operations or hacks involving Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and Democratic National Committee accounts. Schultz stressed officials would be reviewing incidents going back to the 2008 presidential campaign, when the campaigns of Sen. John McCain and Obama were breached by hackers.
Intelligence officials have said Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney were targets of Chinese cyberattacks four years later.
