One week ago, seven days before what would have been the Notorious B.I.G.'s 38th birthday (May 21), former Los Angeles police officer David Mack, who many allege helped orchestrate the hit that killed one of hip-hop's most beloved MCs, was released from prison.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' records, Mack became a free man on May 14.

Mack was known for his ties to Death Row Records and the Bloods gang; a detective investigating the Biggie murder case also discovered Mack owned a car similar to the one used on the hit against the Brooklyn MC, though police did not follow the lead.

Many friends, family members and fans of Biggie are still flabbergasted at what they believe is a lack of effort in seeking justice for the slain rap superstar.

"I'm definitely upset about it," Lil' Cease told MTV News this week. "I think it's something they should look into, especially when you see all these other things going on and you see how they pursue other cases. It just seems like when it came to Biggie, it was, 'Oh, another rapper, another hoodlum, another gangster is dead.' Same thing with 2Pac. These were two of the most influential figures in hip-hop, and you're not finding these people's murderers? Or not even making a real attempt to? It upsets you, 'cause they're treating them like nobodies but they had a big influence in the game and people look up to them. No matter what they rap about or what they'd been through, they were still human beings at the time."

A Los Angeles Police Department representative told MTV News the case is still ongoing, but a spokesperson had no comment on the investigation.

Retired LAPD detective Russell Poole told MTV News in March that he continues to believe that Mack, other rogue officers including Rafael Perez, and former Death Row Records head Suge Knight conspired together to kill the Notorious B.I.G.

Poole said the 2005 mistrial due to police withholding evidence (the same judge later declared another mistrial, accusing Biggie's family of failing to disclose information they obtained) and subsequent shelving of the trial has made it increasingly difficult for the murderer to be found.

At press time, the case still has yet to receive a new date.

"Unless somebody on the inside fingers Suge Knight and these officers that I believe are involved, it's gonna be very, very hard for them to actually proceed with a criminal court case, from a logical standpoint," Poole told MTV News. "The fact of the matter is, the evidence was there. I've had less evidence on cases where I've sent people to prison for the rest of their lives. This case had a lot of evidence to it. Start with the officers that were working off-duty for Death Row Records, they were getting paid well. That occupation, working for Death Row Records, superseded them working for LAPD as sworn, honest, police officers. And nobody has really put any emphasis on that, and that's the real story. Nobody ever investigated those officers way back then, when they were working for corrupt gangsters that were on parole and were armed. Nobody has done any real in depth investigation on that."

Poole said it was an unwritten rule that police were not allowed to work in other capacities, such as the roles many secured within Death Row's organization.

Mack and Perez, who has since changed his name to Ray Lopez, were later convicted and sentenced to prison for crimes unrelated to the Notorious B.I.G. shooting. Both men are now free after serving out their times.A third man, Amir Muhammad, who Poole and others alleged was the shooter, has never been questioned by police.

Knight was recently arrested by police in California and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but the former mogul (his company, Death Row Records, was auctioned off) has never been connected by police to the Biggie case.

On Friday (May 21), more than 13 years since his killing, Biggie's birthday is still being celebrated. His Junior M.A.F.I.A. cohort Lil' Cease spoke to MTV News this week and explained how he thought Big would recognize his birthday this year if he were alive.

"Today, he'd probably just be with the family," Cease said. "We had our experience on the road: performing, doing shows, big parties. He definitely would have had a big party. A celebrity affair. But he also would have done something private with the M.A.F.I.A., close friends, wife. He kept it together with everybody he dealt with, and I'm sure they would have all came out and shown their love for Big and kept everything else under the carpet, whatever it was. Big had that type of heart, that everyone would wanna come out and show their love and spend that day with him."

The music world suffered its worst ever sales week this week since 1991, the year SoundScan started measuring over-the-counter sales.

5.3 million albums sold in the past week in the United States. The number one album by Justin Bieber was worth just over 60,000 sales, that in itself was the second lowest selling number one ever recorded.

Last week, metal band Godsmack topped the chart with 117,000 sales. As metal fans are prone to buy an album as soon as it’s out, that album dropped 63 percent to 43,000 and dropped back to no. 9.

In perspective though there wasn’t a major album released last week to entice buyers.

Other debuts included The National ‘High Violet’ at no. 3, Dead Weather ‘Sea of Cowards’ at no. 5, Charice ‘Charice’ at no. 8 and As I Lay Dying ‘Powerless Rise’ at no. 10.

"It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up magazine. Salt-N-Peppa and Heavy D up in the limousine. Hanging pictures on my wall, every Saturday Rap Attack Mr Magic Marley Marl" -- Notorious B.I.G.

Great artists are God's gift to the world in my opinion.

On March 9, 1997 we lost one of those gifts. But not before he left us with two classic albums filled with lyrics only a genius could write.

'Ready To Die' and 'Life After Death' are in the homes and whips of every fan of hip hop, new school or old around the world.

Christopher Wallace, better known to many as Notorious B.I.G. would have been 38 years old today. Every rapper is a littler bit better having heard him spit.

One if the greatest things about Biggie was his universal flow. He may have been from from the East Coast, but everybody has a favorite Biggie joint no matter where you live.

So today, tip your hat, raise your glass or smoke one and wish The Black Frank White, Happy Birthday.

The always hilarious Chelsea Handler of the Chelsea Lately Show was interviewed by Jay Leno last night (May 20).

While describing the recent Correspondent's dinner she attended, she talked about Samuel L Jackson flirting with her by putting his hand on her leg. However when the picture was shown it was actually Morgan Freeman. She laughed it off by saying "that does sound really racist, but I'm not."

Recently she's been in the news for a sex tape she made back in the day. She acknowledges it is her, but says it was a joke she made as an audition tape.

Right now she's on a stand up tour, if she comes to your town go check her out.

Being locked up isn't stopping New Orleans rapper C-Murder from working on his craft.

According to BallerStatus he will be dropping his ninth studio album titled 'Tomorrow' on June 15. The album was recorded while the MC was last on house arrest and retains "the gritty edge that won C-Murder fans in New Orleans and all over the world."

Murder, real name Corey Miller is the brother of businessman/rapper/actor Percy "Master P" Miller. He is serving a sentence of life in prison afer being convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old fan Steve Thomas at a now-closed nightclub in Harvey, Louisiana.

The trial was marked by controversy amid accusations that District Judge Hans Liljeberg forced the jury to keep deliberating after they reached a 10-2 verdict because one of the jurors reportedly voted to convict because she felt pressured.

Only 10 votes are needed for conviction in a second degree murder case.

Miller is currently working on an appeal.

The last couple of weeks have been downright f***ed up for NBA superstar Lebron James. Not only did his team the Cleveland Cavaliers get bounced out of the playoffs by the Boston Celtics. There's also been the little problem of rumors circulating that his teammate Delonte West is sleeping with his mom.

Lebron reportedly found the news out right before game 4 in the Celtics series. A game the Cavs lost by a score of 97-87.

Just two days ago Lebron's lawyer said "no thinking person would believe this story."

But today NBA Hall Of Famer Calvin Murphy told ESPN Radio that his sources confirmed that indeed West and Ms James are bumping uglies.

It ain't no rumor. Unfortunately my sources in the NBA tell me that it's absolutely true. My sources…and they're legit tell me that the only people who didn't know what was happening were Lebron and me…I could not imagine me being in that situation and him still being on my team because one of us is going to be dead and the other one's going to be in jail. No question about it…they was doing the horizontal pokey.”

Damn, this is getting ugly.

(AllHipHop news) Last night (May 19th), Queial of Da Congressmen addressed allegations that have been rampantly spreading across the net, concerning recent altercations with rappers Waka Flocka and Gucci Mane.

Queial, who hails from Atlanta’s Zone 1 on the West Side, is the cousin of rapper Slick Pulla, who has a long running feud Waka Flocka.

A video of the confrontation hit various Hip-Hop websites yesterday as Gucci Mane attempted to shoot a video.

The Congressmen are signed to Prestige Entertainment, Slick Pulla’s imprint.

The group consists of Queail Nitty, John Doe, Juan Don, Lil Buss It, Hood Rich, Card, Brown Tone, Juve the Young Kiddy, Joe Chinks and TLT Grip Set.

Queail denied reports that Da Congressman were Crips.

Not down with no Crip, Not down with no Blood, not affiliated with none of them, but I can say I f**k with everybody," Queail told AllHipHop.com.

According to Queail, the problem with Waka started because “Waka is not from the ATL period, he’s from the country outside of Monroe.”

When asked if they were among the group of men involved in an altercation with Waka Flocka in Atlanta in the clothing store in March, Queail declined to say, due to legal implications.

This has nothing to Jeezy, Gucci Mane or none of that s**t. Gucci and Jeezy don’t know nothing about that s**t, don’t wanna know nothing about that s**t," Queail told AllHipHop.com. "Gucci and Jeezy did they own thang, more power to them. This isn’t about Waka Flocka or none of that. First of all I smashed Waka Flocka for a reason, ya feel me, and that reason was in the streets.”

Jay-Z had breakfast with the real Billionaire Boys Club yesterday.

Jigga who is minority owner of the New Jersey Nets dined with majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion.

Prokhorov, who is from Russia and has a ridiculous net worth of $13.4 billion revealed he and Hov have a lot in common.

According to the New York Daily News, Prokhorov said of Jay-Z "We are soul mates, I'm looking forward to hanging out with him."

The pair should have plenty of time to do just that as they attempt to resurrect a New Jersey Nets franchise that seems stuck in reverse.

"For me, it's a great pleasure to be here as the new owner of the Nets, the team with the best record in the whole NBA," Prokhorov joked. "Was I misinformed?"

Unfortunately not Mr Prokhorov. As Dennis Green would say, the Nets "are who you thought they were."

Damn, what happened to Lindsay Lohan? Just a few years ago she was the toast of Tinseltown. Now the only toasting going on is between her and the bartender at whatever club she's at.

A Los Angeles judge issued a warrant for the troubled starlet this morning after after she failed to show in court for a probation hearing.

Lohan is on probation after being convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) in 2007.

Her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley said her client couldn't make it to court because her passport was stolen at the Cannes Film Festival.

Judge Maesha Revel wasn't buying it this time.

"There is no valid excuse [for Lohan not being here]," said the judge. "If she wanted to be here, she could've been here. She could've come two days early from Cannes. She has a history of not keeping scheduled appointments."

If and when Lohan is arrested she will have to post a $100,000 bail.

Lohan also faces a probation violation hearing. If found in violation she could face six months in jail.

A lot of people think Peedi Crakk and Beanie Sigel are just bitter and have no legitimate gripe against their former Roc-A-Fella boss, Jay-Z.

The full story behind the fall of the Roc may never be known, especially since Jay-Z refuses to engage in a war of words with either of the Philly emcees.

One thing that can be debated though, is whether or not Jay stole his "whisper flow" from Young Chris of the Young Gunnaz.

I've heard it said quite often that Chris sounds exactly like Jigga when he flows. But in reality it's just the opposite according to Peedi Crakk.

In a recent interview with Philly DJ Cosmic Kev, part of which XXL reposted, he flat out accuses Hov of jacking Chris's flow.

I want to clarify that [Jay] doesn’t steal anyone’s songs,” Peedi said, “He steals swag, ideas, concepts—whatever you want to call it… Jay doesn’t just straight-up jack you for a song. He’s just smooth with it."

" You ever listen to Young Chris rap and then go back and listen to Jay? You almost start to scratch your head. The old Jay-Z never rapped like that. That’s Young Gunnaz flow to the tee. There are actually people that don’t know that that [the whisper rap] was [Chris'] flow. I don’t understand why Jay don’t just say that he got the swag from the young bull."

Super producer Just Blaze who crafted many hits for the Roc-A-Fella crew during that time thinks some things should be kept in-house.

That’s like old family business,” Just tells XXL. “I don’t really indulge in family squabbles, making them public. The way I look at it everybody feeds off everybody and everybody works together.”

While I respect Just's opinion as far as crews working together and sharing ideas, I don't think jacking another rapper's flow falls into that category.

The number one thing that sets any rapper apart from another is their distinct flows. This isn't the first time Jay-Z has been accused of flow jacking. Many believe he jacked Big L's flow in the beginning of his career.

Peedi took one last shot before he was done.

Jay has no swag of his own, he has no natural cool n*gga style."

This is a debate that will rage on for a while in my opinion. Jay would never admit it, this is something the fans will have to decide.

Simon Cowell is leaving his spot as judge on American Idol and the search will soon be underway for his replacement. Diddy wants it known that he will be happy to fill that spot if they will pay him Simon Cowell type money.

The Bad Boy Records boss told MTV that money talks.

"I have been fronting all this time, trying to act like I don't want that spot. [But] I spoke to Simon's business manager, and I found out how much that boy makes a week. I am praying right now to 'American Idol,' "

Seriously though, why not Diddy? Say what you want about him, but one thing is for certain he knows talent and how to make artists superstars.

Diddy wants the campaign to begin now for his American Idol seat.

"I want everybody to get on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and say that Diddy should get the Simon spot — but for the same amount of money that Simon was getting, else it's a deal-breaker," he said

"I'm tired of being cool: That number that Simon was getting a week is ridiculous. I can't even be cool with that. Please, can I have the job, whoever's in charge of giving that job?"

The show could use a shake up, no knock against Ellen DeGeneres, but what exactly does she know about music?

Stranger things have happened, next season we might see Diddy dancing on stage more than the contestants.

Looks like Megan Fox has learned the hard way that you don't take shots at the director of the film franchise that made you a household name.

Last year Megan ranted about 'Transformers' director Michael Bay.

“[Michael] wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is," she said. “He has no social skills at all. It’s endearing to watch him. He’s so vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set, he’s a tyrant, he has some kind of mental problem."

Well it's just been announced that the beautiful brunette has been axed from 'Transformers 3'.

Variety is reporting that Paramount has decided to move in a different direction and will cast a different actress as Shia LaBeouf's love interest in the film.

Megan has told People that it was her decision to leave.

Megan Fox will not be starring in Transformers 3," reps for the actress said. "It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best.”

The previous two 'Transformer' movies have been blockbusters at the box office.

The first 'Transformers' grossed $709.7 million worldwide, followed by $836.4 million for last year's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.'

Paramount is banking that the next film in the series will be box office gold without Megan.

Shooting is expected to begin this summer on the film which is set to open July 1,2011.

Just how far is too far when it comes to teaching your kids a lesson?

A mom in Lehigh Acres, Florida fed up with her son playing with matches had a sheriff's deputy handcuff him and put him in the back of a patrol car to teach him a lesson.

The mom stands by her decision saying "If more parents did what I did we wouldn't have the crime we have now."

But a witness to the event thought it was too much. She watched as the sheriff handcuffed the little boy and took a picture as she pumped gas at a 7-Eleven.

"That's not a way to treat a child, that's not a way to teach a lesson to a little boy,” said the witness. "The only thing why I didn't go up to a cop and say what the heck are you doing is because I would have gone to jail."

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the deputy did not follow protocol and said it wouldn't happen again.

So what do you guys think, was the mom out of line or was this good parenting?
