Video After The Jump

A group of United Parcel Service (UPS) employees are accused of smuggling shipments of drugs and counterfeit vaping oils from Mexico and distributing the illicit products around the U.S. for at least a decade.

Authorities arrested 11 people, including four UPS drivers and supervisors, in Tucson, Ariz., for their roles in the alleged smuggling ring, the Department of Homeland Security said. Investigators say the suspects moved thousands of pounds of marijuana and other drugs into the U.S. from Mexico each week using the company's standard cardboard boxes, bypassing security measures.

Mario Barcelo, a 20-year UPS employee and dispatch supervisor -- was named as the alleged ringleader of the operation. In a news release, the federal authorities said officials learned of the operation in 2017. Barcelo was arrested on Nov. 13.

Prosecutors said Barcelo, 49, used his position in the Tucson UPS distribution facility to ensure the drug shipments were loaded to the correct trucks and delivered to the intended destinations. Authorities in Tucson had been investigating Barcelo since 2009, The Washington Post reported.

However, they became frustrated when UPS would not cooperate with them to intercept and prevent potential crimes. They cited a 2017 incident in which they were prevented from entering the Tucson facility after learning of an illicit shipment.

In a statement to Fox News, UPS said it is cooperating with law enforcement but is “not at liberty to discuss the details of the arrests as this is an ongoing investigation.”

Aside from Barcelo, UPS supervisor Gary Love and drivers Michael Castro and Thomas Mendoza are charged with money laundering, drug possession and drug distribution. Seven others are facing charges on shipping drugs and operating stash houses.

Raul Garcia Cordova, 47, faces more than a dozen charges. A police raid at his home turned up 50,000 counterfeit vaping pens, a Chevrolet Corvette and a Range Rover.

Undercover officers posing as drug traffickers contacted Barcelo to ship a fake shipment of cocaine in 2018 and 2019. Trackers were placed inside boxes containing the products to documents its movement and the phones of UPS employees were tapped.

Police also obtained video footage of the group coordinating the operations.

Video After The Jump

On this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with legendary actor, director, producer, writer, and Avenger Don Cheadle. The conversation covers a wide swath of his career -- as the trio discusses the backstories of what led Cheadle to take the iconic roles he became known for over the years. "Colors," "Boogie Nights," "Devil In A Blue Dress," "Iron Man," "Out Of Sight," and "Hotel Rwanda" all come up in this wide-ranging discussion.

Cheadle also speaks on his contact with Kendrick Lamar, asking him to star in his self-produced and directed biopic 'Miles Ahead', and we get to hear about some of the hilarious reactions he received from Brits about the Cockney accent he used while playing Basher in the Ocean's movies.

21:10 -- The trio discuss the common complaint people have about not being able to find good music to listen to, and how it really comes down to "your just not looking hard enough."

24:49 -- Talib mentions one of his favorite characters of Don's, being Maurice from the movie "Out Of Sight." Don goes on to tell about how he landed that role.

27:01 -- Don talks about how touchy Brits are about how their accents are portrayed in movies, and mentions getting cussed out on a few occasions by some that didn't appreciate his role of Basher in the Oceans films.

29:36 -- Don speaks on working with John Singleton on the movie "Rosewood" filmed in Sanford, Florida and mentions members of the KKK showing up during their one of their shoots.

34:02 -- Don reflects on his hesitancy in taking the role of Buck from "Boogie Nights" after glancing at the dense 130-page script and contemplating what his parents will think about him playing a porn star.

37:25 -- Talib asks Don what he thinks about Martin Scorsese's recent comments about Marvel movies not qualifying as cinema, and him saying that they are essentially the amusement parks of the film industry.

39:33 -- Talib asks Don how much research is involved on his part when developing a character from the Marvel Universe like War Machine, being cognizant that there is so much history tied into these roles.

43:20 -- Jasmin asks Don and Talib if there is a movie or song that they wish they could erase from their catalog. They go on to discuss the pitfalls of creating art out of desperation.

49:20 -- Don and Talib talk about how they became friends tag-teaming Twitter trolls, and Talib asks Don about his twitter profile bio noting "single-issue dem voter in 2020." They go on to discuss the progressive agenda and strategy for beating Trump.

1:00:03 -- Don speaks on some of the activist movements he's been a part of including the current state of Rwanda, still recovering from after-effects of government-sponsored genocide in the mid-90s. as well as his work in climate change awareness.

1:05:31 -- Don and Talib discuss the controversy of choosing Cynthia Erivo a Nigerian born actor to play the role of Harriet Tubman, and Don explains the most notable differences between biopics and documentaries that people should keep in mind.

1:10:07 -- Don tells about the crossroads he came to when receiving scholarships in both acting and music and how he made his final decision of pursuing an acting career even though his first love was actually music.

Wack 100 says it's not personal, but in his opinion Nipsey Hussle should not be considered a hip hop legend. According to Wack, legendary status should be based on album sales and an artists overall body of work.

He added that since Nip only released one album, didn't have a platinum hit, never had a world tour and died with a million followers on social media, he can't be considered a legend.

Let us know your thoughts. Is Wack right or wrong in your opinion?

What's the criteria you use when deciding legendary status for a rap artist?

In 1979 the DEA compiled its first internal list of Top 10 traffickers in all of North America which was the Feds’ blueprint for who to after. Only one African-American was on the list.

His name was Reginald Davis of Detroit Michigan.

I had read some newspaper articles and heard some rumors about the Davis Family Group, as the DEA called them. John Sutton, head of the Detroit DEA when the Davis brothers were actually indicted was in charge of their case and I interviewed him extensively about his time in Detroit and working cases related to the Davis' and the Brothers themselves who were hit with a massive 50+ count plus indictment. That indictment was a fiasco for the government, resulting in one of the DEA agent being fired for threatening his superior, getting an $80k payout from the DEA for racial discrimination on the job, and, If I remember correctly, his brief incarceration in Federal prison. But that's a long and complex story we will save for the tale of Doc's bro.

In fact, the range of their actives over 20 plus years that spanned from Thailand to Ghana to Jamaica to Culiacan Sinaloa- the home base of El Chapo and the Sinaloa- Cartel when El Chapo was still a poverty stricken teenager.

In various Federal indictments for the infamous 848- running a continuing criminal enterprise- the so-called Kingpin statute- they are referred to as the DFG, the Davis Family Gang, though they never called themselves that. A group of brothers who grew up in an affluent home at the very time Detroit was probably the best place in America to be black ...if you had the money to enjoy it.

After the 1967 civil unrest and the long slow decline of the Auto industry picked up steam.

The cases of Reginald “Doc” Davis and his brother Duane led to a DEA Agent being sent to prison, political intrigue, and a plan to pull Marcus Garvey’s old Black Star Line out of dry dock in Ghana to smuggle Hair-ron hidden in rice to the U.S.

Doc and Duane are alive and well to tell their amazing tales... which actually continue to this day as there is still an ongoing legal fight concerning a very important legal precedent set in their case that is frequently used in major conspiracy and 848 cases.

They were so big they would mix Hair-ron from Turkey, Mexico, and Thailand together by the kilos. Both of the street crews that dominated the streets of the Murder City circa 1980- Young Boys Inc and Pony Down were often supplied by the Davis’.

They supplied certain Muslims in Philadelphia and replaced Nicky Barnes as a supplier in Harlem and they had packs on the streets as far from Detroit as the Carolinas.

Former NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor is in stable condition after being stabbed overnight at the Heinz Lofts apartment complex in Pittsburgh, according to NFL Media. Police were on the scene Saturday morning, according to a report from WTAE, and Pryor was initially in critical condition when the attack was first reported.

An unidentified woman is in custody at Pittsburgh Police Headquarters for allegedly being connected, according to the report. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Pryor was stabbed in the shoulder and chest.

The Jeannette, Pennsylvania native has not played in a regular season game since Nov. 11, 2018. Pryor was drafted as a quarterback by Oakland in the third round of the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft. After five seasons with the RaidersSeahawksChiefs and Bengals, he began transitioning to the wide receiver position. In 2016, the Ohio State product recorded 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns with the Browns. Since then, he has recorded just 36 receptions with the RedskinsBills and Jets. He joined the Jaguars this offseason but was consequently released in September.

Pryor, now 30 years old, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2008 with the Buckeyes. He also won the Big Ten championship twice and currently holds the NFL record for the longest touchdown run by a quarterback (93 yards).

The Starbucks employee who gave an Oklahoma police officer cups of coffee with the word "PIG" printed on the label has been fired, the company said in a statement Friday.

The Kiefer police officer went to the Starbucks in Glenpool on Thanksgiving day to pick up five drinks, CNN affiliate KTUL reported. Kiefer Chief Johnny O'Mara told the news station a customer pointed out the label on the cups to the officer.

"What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town," O'Mara wrote in a Facebook post, where he shared a picture of a cup with the "PIG" label on it.

The coffee company called the incident "absolutely unacceptable" and said it is "deeply sorry to the law enforcement officer who experienced this."

"The Starbucks partner who wrote this offensive word on a cup used poor judgement and is no longer a partner after this violation of company policy," the statement read. "This language is offensive to all law enforcement and is not representative of the deep appreciation we have for police officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe."

In a joint statement, Starbucks and Kiefer police said they're using the incident "as an opportunity to leverage our shared platforms to promote greater civility."

The company will meet with Kiefer police to discuss ways to work together, including by jointly hosting a Coffee with a Cop event at Starbucks for local law enforcement to meet with baristas and community members to discuss "the critical role dispatchers and police offers play in keeping our communities safe," the joint statement said.

Chico DeBarge Arrested For Meth Possession

12353277473?profile=original

Chico DeBarge -- the R&B singer known for the '80s hit "Talk to Me" -- probably needs to talk to a lawyer soon ... he's been arrested for drug possession.

The younger bro of the DeBarge family musical group got busted in Burbank, CA earlier this month in a Walmart parking lot after cops saw him using a piece of wire to try to unlock an SUV ... according to police.

Thinking he was trying to break in, officers approached and searched DeBarge ... and allegedly found methamphetamine in his pockets. He was placed under arrest, and cops say they also discovered drug paraphernalia in the SUV.

Oh yeah, it turns out the singer had locked his keys inside ... which is why he was trying to jimmy the door open.

Chico was booked at the Burbank City Jail before being released. We're told formal charges are pending review by the City Attorney.

DeBarge rose to fame in the '80s with his self-titled debut album featuring his hit single and followed it up with a second album ... before he served prison time for drug trafficking.

He made a comeback after his release in the mid-'90s, but never achieved the success of "Talk to Me." The singer was busted for drugs again in 2007 and has admitted to struggling with addiction for years.

A man was hospitalized after being slammed to the ground by police Thursday in Chatham when he allegedly spit on an officer while being detained for drinking alcohol in public.

The incident was caught on video and posted to social media. Graphic language was used in the video.

About 3:58 p.m., officers saw the 29-year-old drinking alcohol at a bus stop in the 700 block of East 79th Street and approached him, according to Chicago police.

Police said the man became “irate” and licked the face of an officer and made verbal threats toward the officers, police said. When the man spit in an officer’s eye and mouth, the officer performed an “emergency takedown,” according to police.

A 41-second video of the incident that was posted to social media appeared to show the man facing a police SUV with an officer standing behind him when the officer picks him up off his feet and throws him to the ground. The man appears to lie motionless in the street as other officers gather around him.

Jovanna Alexiss Jamison, 22, witnessed the incident and recorded the video that was posted to Facebook.

The man “didn’t do anything aggressive, he just stood there,” according to Jamison. “He was standing there using his cellphone. They took away his bottle of liquor and threw it.”

The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center by police, where he was stabilized, according to spokesmen for CPD and the Chicago Fire Department.

The 32-year-old officer who was spit on was taken by ambulance to the same hospital for evaluation, officials said.

The officer’s use of the emergency takedown maneuver will be investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), according to CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

“This incident is under investigation as the actions in the video are concerning,” Guglielmi said in a statement Thursday night. “If wrongdoing is discovered, officers will be held accountable.”
