BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — As investigators continued to work a scene they believe to be the remains of Homewood teenager Aniah Blanchard just east of Montgomery, Aniah's mother Angela Harris explained what was taken from her family.
After losing her best friend. Harris held on to her daughters best friends telling them, they are "her girls - comfort in a time she needed it most.
“She was my heart,” said Harris.
They shared something no one else in the family did, Angela and Aniah shared a birthday.
They won't share anymore cake or candles, but she's going to continue to share her favorite memories.
“Just her laughter and her smile, that’s what I'm going to miss the most. Just her happiness because she made life better for all of us," said Harris.
Tonight, she’s not only hurting, she’s feeling guilt.
“Maybe not even anything I could have done, but I should have prepared her just a little bit better for things she might have come into contact with," said Harris.
“As parents and children walked away Tuesday night, they were left with one final message.
“It can happen to you, it can happen to your family. So from tonight on, go home make a plan, get some things together, talk to your kids so we can prevent this and start fighting back for this evil that’s in this world," said Harris.
