Aretha Franklin's middle-aged son was undergoing emergency surgery on Tuesday after being severely beaten at a gas station in Detroit on Monday night, according to reports.
Two men and a woman assaulted Eddie Franklin, 52, at a station near Plymouth and Evergreen, the Queen of Soul's spokeswoman tells the Detroit News.
Other details were scarce. The female suspect appeared to be about 19 years old, and one of the men had dreadlocks. All three were African American.
An unidentified person at the station took Franklin to an area hospital and then filed a police report, according to authorities. Word of Franklin's condition was not immediately available.
Aretha Franklin, 68, who had Eddie when she was 16, is one of the most decorated singers of all time, having won 20 Grammy Awards.

50 Cent has launched a Twitter account for his dog Oprah. The In Da Club rapper joined the social networking site recently and has since made various strange announcements- including claiming he’s getting married. But perhaps his weirdest move so far is to start tweeting as OprahTheDog!Yesterday he posted a pic of the cute mutt’ with a bandaged leg saying: “The b**ch gonna be alright. I took her to the doctor.”Soon after he started having a public er, ‘conversation’ with the miniature schnauzer. She wrote to him:“motherf***er 50 almost stepped on me this morning and he knew I was at the foot of the bed. and he always calling me for nothing!! he aint made a classic since get rich or die tryin.”Fiddy later posted a pic of him holding a knife near the dog, which unsurprisingly upset animal rights group PETA.The star responded to the criticism in no uncertain terms, writing: “Now this is to the Peta people: Stay off my motherfucking twitter page I don't give a f***!”Previously 50 Cent has given advice to President Obama and criticised Kanye West on Twitter. Maybe Oprah the dog will soon do the same.Source:MTV UKRead more…

A brawl breaks out in the middle of the street, and three cops just watch the action.
I was thinking they could be rent-a-cops, but a couple of times they get close to the fight like they want to break it up, then let it keep going.
Good to see taxpayer dollars hard at work.

Video After The JumpENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday in an apparent suicide.Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley's home in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Robinson said authorities were called by a female friend of McKinley's who discovered the body after returning from an errand with his child. The sheriff declined to say if authorities found a suicide note.
"It's still part of our investigation and probably nothing we'll talk about right now," he said.
McKinley's death is the latest in a series of tragedies for the Broncos in recent years. Cornerback Darrent Williams was slain in a drive-by shooting on New Year's Day 2007 and three months later backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis.
"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "He was part of the Broncos' family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."
The Broncos said coach Josh McDaniels would meet with the media on Tuesday.
In a statement, McDaniels said: "Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
McKinley was a second-year pro who was on the team's injured reserve list. He played in eight games as a rookie in 2009 with seven kick returns for 158 yards before going on IR with a left knee injury on Dec. 29.
He recovered and participated in the team's offseason workouts but got hurt again during the first week of training camp and was placed on IR with a different left knee injury on Aug. 5.
McKinley's agent Andrew Bondarowicz told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson that he spoke with the wideout last week but that there were no obvious signs of despair.
"Kenny was a pretty easy-going guy," Bondarowicz said. "I do know that being on the injured reserve was hard on him and it weighed on him ... but there was nothing to suggest anything like this. It's a shock that caught us by surprise."
McKinley was a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina in 2009. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Ga.
McKinley remains South Carolina's all-time leading receiver with 207 catches for 2,781 yards. He came back to the school earlier this month, watched the Gamecocks beat Georgia 17-6 and visited with his college coach, Steve Spurrier.
"Had a wonderful smile just like he always did," Spurrier said.
The news of McKinley's death spread quickly at the end of South Carolina's practice Monday. Players who normally sprint off the field upbeat walked slowly with their heads down.
"Kenny was certainly one of my all-time favorite players. It's hard to figure out why it happened like this," Spurrier said.
Several Broncos players were attending a fundraiser Monday night in honor of Williams.
Cornerback Champ Bailey and former NFL star John Lynch headlined the wine-tasting VIP event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver, home of the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center.
Bailey told The Associated Press last week that it was an opportunity for fans and friends to celebrate the life of the player they called D-Will, especially after so much attention was focused on the trial earlier this year in which Willie Clark, 26, was convicted of first-degree murder of Williams after a confrontation at a nightclub. Clark was sentenced in April to life in prison plus 1,152 years.
"It's time to remember the way D-Will lived and not the way he died," Bailey said last week.
The Broncos, who beat Seattle 31-14 on Sunday, hustled out of their Dove Valley practice facilities Monday night, many of them headed to the charity event unaware of the latest tragedy to befall the franchise.
Players leaving the event said they didn't want to comment on McKinley's death.
At McKinley's home in a subdivision in the southern Denver suburbs, a bouquet of flowers wrapped in purple was propped against the door Monday night.

VIBE: Whoever talked 50 into taking over his Twitter account truly created a monster.DJ Whoo Kid: I think he got the new iPhone and they put the [Twitter] app on there. And then Yayo was talking about 'go on' and he just started wildin’ out. Once he saw how easy it was, that was it. Because before, he had a Blackberry, he didn’t really care too much about going online. Whatever he needed to promote, he had somebody promoting it. But now he has it in the palm of his hands, and he’s going bezerk. He cursed me out on there like twice. I’m like a fucking human punching bag on Twitter. But it’s all good because the more they curse me out, the more followers I get.He cursed out Perez Hilton the other day, too.
This is like a nightmare now that he has 3 million followers, and I’m assuming he’s trying to break the 5 million follower capacity. But making him mad and he has Twitter is a nightmare , so I would suggest not to go at him too tough. Leave him alone. Because basically whatever he says on Twitter, everybody knows.
It seems like G-Unit is gearing up for a comeback with this EMI deal. It’s been a long time. We’ve been waiting to put some crazy hot shit out. But we’re just going with the times, transforming ourselves so we can mix in. You can’t go wrong with the music we have. Even the 50 Cent leaks are crazy. The remix he did with Jeremih, that shit is outta here. And that’s just him fucking around. I was like, that’s a real record, what are you doing right now.
Other artists are reaching out now, too. Kanye just put Banks in his top five. Is there a G-Unit/G.O.O.D. Music collabo in the works?
It’s cool to receive respect from Kanye due to the fact that he’s lyrical too. Lyrical dudes have respect for other lyrical dudes. Banks is always talking to Fab, he’s always talking to dudes that have lyrical skill, Jay Rock to—everybody that spits bars, they all talk to each other.
But are they actually going to work together?I guess that opened up the doorway—[50 and Kanye] have been talking about working together since a couple months ago—we all roll out together in a Euro tour. It’s the media that be hyping up all the beef and stupidity. But the real story is behind the scenes on how these dudes be talking. Because I been heard about this shit. We’ll wait and see what happens with Banks and ‘Ye, but he also said recently that you were on “timeout,” and that he wouldn’t be doing any mixtapes with you for a minute. What’s good with that?Banks said recently that you were on “timeout,” and that he wouldn’t be doing any mixtapes with you for a minute. What’s good with that? He’s always fucking with me on Twitter. I’m assuming that’s because I sent a message to him about 50 saying that he used to date a midget. He got pissed off on Twitter. That’s just Twitter nonsense. We’ve been working on a mixtape. He’s done a whole bunch of songs already but we’re already too close to the drop date to drop a mixtape. We just want people to concentrate on Hunger For More 2.So after the album you’ll probably do something?
It depends. We’re both always away. I got my 25-country birthday tour and he gets booked ridiculously off two singles. So scheduling alone is a nightmare. It’s good, we cant complain. We’re both doing good. He’s getting booked overseas more than a lot of artists I know. Are you working with anyone else on a mixtape?A lot of the mixtapes I’m doing now are being mixed down and in due time will come out. But I’m just leaking like one song at a time, promoting each situation. Me and Wyclef, we’re doing a mixtape. It’s going to be a lot of features. Other than that, a lot Tech N9ne and Snoop and Gucci Mane, I have nine or 10 mixtapes I’m doing at once. I always work in intervals and I just dump them all at once and then I just disappear.
Tell us about the Wyclef mixtape. We’re working on it right now. We did like 5 or 6 joints on it. And there are some crazy featuers on there. You’re going to be surprised. It’s gonna be probably 40 percent Haiti dedication and 60 percent Wyclef Fugee returns with the Haitian killer Whoo Kid. All original production—I got Ski Beatz, Red Spyda, Cookin Soul. Shout out to Alchemist. We’re going to make it some sick shit. We’re going to do videos and all kinds of nonsense. On some Haitian general shit. Clef is yapping with a couple cats right now like T.I. and a couple other dudes, but we’re working it out.Sounds dope. When is that dropping?Probably before Halloween. It’s going to be crazy.
Tech N9ne’s been buzzing crazy, especially since Wayne gave him props. He has a ridiculous fan base. And this is his first mixtape. I introduced Snoop to the mixtape phenomenon and all these other cats on the West Coast. They didn’t understand why you have to do a mixtape and give it away for free. So I had to fly there and explain to them. And I did the same thing with Tech. He’s always in the studio, doing songs over. When’s his mixtape dropping?Tech9 one will be out around the same time as Wyclef, before Halloween. It’s called Bad Season. So far we have E-40, Jay Rock, Too Short. I’ma have Snoop on there. We’re going to have a whole bunch of people, like, West Coast niggas. And then I’m possibly going to have Banks on there, too. It’s going to be on some sick shit.

As previously reported here on PaperChaserDotCom, Richard "Syco Sam" McCroskey killed 4 people last year in Virginia. Today (September 20) he plead guilty to all four murders.Video After The JumpFARMVILLE, VIRGINIA -- The suspect in the quadruple homicide that horrified this quiet college town a year ago pleaded guilty to murder charges today and was ordered to spend life in prison.
Richard Samuel Alden McCroskey III, 21, of California, pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder and two counts of first-degree murder in Prince Edward County Circuit Court for bludgeoning the victims with a wood-splitting maul a year ago in a Longwood University professor's home in Farmville.
McCroskey, who could have faced the death penalty, was sentenced to life in prison. He opted not to address the courtroom, which was occupied by family members of all four victims, law enforcement investigators and others.
Prince Edward County Commonwealth's Attorney James Ennis said McCroskey's anger about his relationship with his girlfriend, Emma Niederbrock, 16, led to the killings. McCroskey killed Emma; her mother, Longwood University professor Debra S. Kelley; Kelley's estranged husband, Mark Niederbrock; and Emma's friend, Melanie Wells, who was visiting from West Virginia.
Ennis said members of the victims' families supported his decision to reach the plea agreement instead of going to trial and seeking the death penalty.
"What it really means is death in prison," Ennis said after the hearing. "It's a guaranteed outcome, and hopefully it will bring some measure of closure to the family."
Defense attorney Cary Bowen said his objective had been to minimize McCroskey's punishment and serve his interest as best as possible.
"He's left families without their loved ones," Bowen said. "There are four people dead here. He's not proud of that."
He said McCroskey is remorseful and has contemplated the severity of what he did.
A family spokeswoman released a statement from Kelley's parents, Thomas and Margaret Kelley, saying they are thankful that the case is over and that they may now "have some degree of closure." They also thanked police and everyone who supported them.
"We have endured a tragedy of unspeakable proportion," the statement reads. "We are relieved that justice has been done. While we will never forget our loved ones or the circumstances of their deaths, we hope to move forward and begin the healing process."
Melanie Wells
Other family members did not wish to comment, the spokeswoman said.
McCroskey, who recorded "horrorcore" rap music with lyrics that obsessed about murder and graphic violence, had been in an online relationship with Emma for about a year when he came to visit her in September of last year, Ennis said.
Kelley and Mark Niederbrock took Emma, McCroskey and Wells to a horrorcore music festival several days before McCroskey killed them. Ennis said McCroskey was angered by some text messages Emma sent while they were in Michigan.
They returned to Virginia, and McCroskey became increasingly distraught about the relationship, Ennis said. He had an expectation that he and Emma were seeing each other exclusively and was unhappy with how things were going, Ennis said.
Late in the evening of Sept. 14, 2009, or early the next morning, McCroskey drank beer, smoked marijuana and might have taken painkillers before he attacked the three female victims in the house as they were sleeping, Ennis said. He killed each within a short period of time around 3 a.m. on Sept. 15.
Ennis said that McCroskey first killed Wells, who was on a sofa in a first-floor den, then Kelley in an upstairs room, and finally Emma in her downstairs bedroom. He struck each victim multiple times with the maul.
"No one awoke," Ennis said, adding that the victims had no defensive wounds.
Mark Niederbrock arrived at the home Sept. 17 about 5 p.m., and McCroskey attacked him with the maul in a living room, Ennis said. McCroskey later moved Mark Niederbrock's and Wells' bodies into Emma's room, and he attempted to clean up the bloody den, Ennis said.
At some point, McCroskey used a digital camera to record a video of himself, Ennis said. In the video, he indicated that he knew he had to pay for what he had done and contemplated suicide, Ennis said.
The bodies were discovered in the home Sept. 18, and McCroskey was captured the next day at Richmond International Airport as he awaited a flight home to California

Police in the Colombian city of Barranquilla "arrested" a parrot after he helped several alleged drug dealers and thieves get away during a raid, the daily El Heraldo reported Thursday.
The incident happened Wednesday, when close to 300 police officers arrived to raid a house following numerous complaints that it was used as a hideout by thieves and drug dealers, dpa reported.
When officers arrived at the house they heard a voice that said insistently, "Run, run or the cat will get you!"
They found Lorenzo, a parrot who had been trained to alert residents upon the arrival of the authorities. Everyone who had been in the house managed to get away.
Police then seized the bird and handed it over to an organization for the protection of animals. Officers also arrested four people and seized 250 knives and marijuana.
Police officer Edues Munoz, who took part in the raid, told El Heraldo that while the bird was being taken away in a police car, it kept saying, "Run, run!"
Television reporters went to visit the parrot at Environmental Department facilities in Barranquilla, where it is set to be looked after by vets. When asked by reporters what it had told his previous owners, Lorenzo replied, "Run, run or the cat will get you!"

"EMI hopped on the momentum of what we [G-Unit] were doing already. Everything else they put in is just an added bonus," Banks said.
