The self-proclaimed "Mayor of Miami" Trick Daddy exploded onto America's pop culture landscape as one of the pioneers of Dirty South rap. His 2001 album, Thugs Are Us, established him, as one critic wrote, "alongside Ludacris and Mystikal as one of the few nationally championed Dirty South rappers, and … catapulted him onto the playlist of every urban radio station in America, not to mention MTV." Widely credited with infusing hip hop with new life, he has been one of the most prolific southern talents since his introduction on Uncle Luke's timeless 1996 dance floor staple, "Scarred". Born and raised in poverty as one of twenty-seven children, Maurice Young aka Trick Daddy, is considered by many as a thoughtful thug. His unsparing portrayal of life in the southern ghetto has earned him a legion of fans. Over a twelve-year career, he's released two platinum selling albums and numerous Billboard chart toppers. The recent merger of Trick's label, Dunk Ryders, with the high profile Cash Money Records, the home of Lil Wayne and other platinum-selling stars, along with the upcoming release of the debut Dunk Ryders group album, is currently causing quite a buzz in music circles. Magic City: Trials of a Native Son, chronicles Trick Daddy's story against the backdrop of Miami, the Magic City. It is an extraordinary story, of a childhood marked by poverty, a crime-laden adolescence, an incarceration, a meteoric rise to fame, and a struggle with a potentially fatal medical condition. It's the story of a boy whose father was a pimp; who, left to his own devices, learned to hustle to survive and whose only role model was his brother, the drug dealer he watched plying his trade on the block. But while his story is remarkable, the most astonishing part is that he is not only still alive, but that he got out. Magic City: Trials Of A Native Son is the story of how that potent mixture of extremes, the dazzling beauty and glittering wealth of the Magic City, and the crime, the corruption and the despair playing out in its shadows gave rise to what has now become the most dominant sound in hip hop, in the process revitalizing a stagnant art form. MAGIC CITY, told in Bailey's artful prose, is an ode to the city of Miami, a riveting tale of a paradise lost. Source: HipHopPress twitter-5d.gif

(AllHipHop News) A guard on Rikers Island could face disciplinary action for allegedly giving superstar rapper Lil Wayne preferential treatment in the prison. An investigation has been launched over the alleged actions of Captain Latanya Brown, who is accused of spending extra time with Lil Wayne.Additionally, the New York Post reports that Captain Brown allegedly allowed the rapper to stay in his cell, while other inmates were ordered out of their bunks and into the recreation yard. The prison has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to showing favoritism towards any inmate. In April, just one month after the rapper started his year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a guard at the complex was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne.Amelia Negron was fired for glimpsing at Lil Wayne, although she denied the charges, claiming her union boss forced her to make a confession. This is not the first time a rapper has caused controversy on Rikers Island. In June of 2009, it was revealed that Foxy Brown allegedly received preferential treatment during her 9-month stay on Rikers Island in 2006.The rapper held a photo shoot and allegedly received unlimited phone/TV use, makeup, luxury clothing and outside meals. In October of 2009, Correction Chief Peter Curcio and a Rabbi named Leib Glanz resigned over the scandal, after the Brown reports, in addition to allegations that Rabbi Glanz arranged a lavish bar mitzvah for an inmates son.Source:AllHipHopFollow EntertainmentBo on Twitter

Video After The Jump Well damn, you don't see this everyday. Joey Boots is a damn troll who gets off on annoying the hell out of people and recording it on camera. When he came across a Michael Jackson impersonator, he just couldn't resist the urge to heckle him. I don't think he was expecting the fake MJ to get hood on him though. Boots starts by telling this dude Michael Jackson pedophile jokes, to see if he could get a reaction and it did. The impersonator gave Joey ten seconds to get out of his face. After those ten seconds were up, the drama started. "You're a fat f*ck," the fake MJ said. "What n*gga what! Imma smack that f*cking camera out of your hand, get the f*ck outta here," At this point, the fake MJ throws a couple of punches and tells Joey to "go ahead and call the cops" which doesn't happen. Boots walks off running his mouth and the impersonator does the same thing, walking in the opposite direction. Funny as hell watching a dude dressed like MJ cursing and getting hood. twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump I don't get to watch much of UK's X-Factor, but I'm glad I caught this clip. When this girl first announced she was going to sing Keri Hilson's version of Soulja Boy's "Turn My Swag On", I was ready to see a disaster. But, 16 year old Cher Lloyd really killed it. The judges, Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Natalie Imbruglia were blown away by her performance. I think Cher has a bright future ahead of her. twitter-5d.gif

Nicki Minaj is the new Queen of hip hop, and somewhere along the way, she has also become a big influence in the gay and lesbian community. Female pop artists like Madonna, Grace Jones and Lady Gaga have huge fan bases in those communities as well, but it's not something that has ever happened before in rap. The Trinidad born femcee recently talked with PaperMag about how this came to be, and why she embraces it. "I didn't set out to do that. I just like to put a spotlight on the people who support me, and it just so happens, you know, that the gay community has supported me -- more than I ever could have imagined," she says. "I see videos on YouTube where they impersonate me, and they do an amazing freaking job of dressing up as me." Nicki credits going to LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the "Fame school") as being a major influence and with keeping her open minded. "I saw gay kids, I saw white kids, I saw grunge and pink hair and piercings," she recalls. "I think because of that, I didn't put limits on myself or what I was going to put in my raps. I really just wanted to be diverse." The Young Money rapper thinks that one day we will see a male rapper have just as big of an impact in the gay community. Nicki, who has said she is bi-sexual, told Details that time might not come that soon though. "I think the world is getting more gay-friendly, so hip-hop is too. But it's harder to imagine an openly gay male rapper being embraced. People view gay men as having no street credibility. But I think we'll see one in my lifetime." twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump Floyd Mayweather Jr has issued an apology for his rant on UStream Thursday (September 2) against Manny Pacquiao. Floyd received a lot of criticism for some of the language he used when talking about the Filipino boxing champion while discussing their potential blockbuster fight. Some have suggested that Floyd was being racist when he said Manny would have to bring him "some sushi and rice" and he would cook Pacquiao "with some cats and dogs." Before apologizing, Floyd reiterated his belief that he is the best boxer in the world. "Manny Pacquiao is a good fighter," Floyd said this morning. "He truly believes that he's one of the best, but the thing I know is that I am the best. See, he's one of the best, I am the best, that's the difference. To all the Manny Pacquiao fans, stand behind him. Even when we meet up and I beat him." Floyd took time to send his condolences out to Paquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, who's son was found dead Thursday. John Arum fell more than 300 feet while climbing Storm King mountain in Washington. "I just wanna say God bless to Bob Arum and his whole family because I heard that Bob Arum's son had a bad accident. It's all love to the Arum family. I wish you guys nothing but the best," Mayweather said. "And I do wanna apologize for what happened the other night. Everyone said they thought it was a racist comment that came from me. I don't have a racist bone in my body, I love everybody. Some of my guys are Muslims, some of my guys are Jews. Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, white, it doesn't matter. It's nothing but love in my heart. If anyone was affected by what I said the other day, I apologize as a man. Forgive me for saying what I said. I was just having fun, I didn't really mean it...nothing in a bad way. So let's get on this roller coaster ride and keep riding, it's all love." That's what's up, now can we please get this fight signed? twitter-5d.gif .

The Arizona Cardinals will release quarterback Matt Leinart, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Leinart went in to the offseason as the heir apparent to Kurt Warner as quarterback of the pass-happy Cardinals but was unable to distinguish himself from free agent acquisition Derek Anderson in the eyes of head coach Ken Whisenhunt. Earlier in the week, Arizona was seeking to trade the former first round pick with the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants having been involved in discussions, league sources told Schefter on Wednesday. Instead, the Cardinals look to move away from their top selection in the 2006 draft. Leinart bristled at the brewing quarterback controversy this preseason. "I don't really know what else I could possibly do," Leinart said Monday. "It probably goes beyond football, beyond the field actually. For me, I am not making excuses. I am not going to complain. For me, I just really want an explanation and I haven't been given one." On Tuesday, Whisenhunt sat down with Leinart with the coach describing the conversation as "a good talk." With Leinart out of Arizona, the Cardinals look to a pair of rookies -- Max Hall and John Skelton -- to back up Anderson. Source: ESPN twitter-5d.gif

The red-hooded puppy pitcher has been busted. Police in Bosnia said that they have located the girl who caused global outrage this week after an online video of her surfaced, showing the blonde hurling six crying puppies into a river one by one. The name of the girl, who is a juvenile, has not been released. But she was found after tips were received from animal protection groups in the country, London's Telegraph reported on Friday. Police said the girl's parents will now be questioned. The underage girl is from Bugojno, a central Bosnian town with a population of approximately 50,000. A girl who claimed to be the one from the video posted a separate apology video on YouTube, CNET reported. She identified herself as Katja Puschnik. Under one video frame, the apology said, "I would like to appologize for my behavior. The puppies belonged to my grandma and she told me to get rid of them because they were only 3 days and were ill. They had parasites from their mother. I didn't knew exactly what to do so I thrown them in the river because it was a short death. I did not want to make them suffer. I am really sorry for this :-( " The video apology has since been removed, and the girl's identity could not be verified. Velimir Ivanisevic, head of Sarajevo animal group SOS, said he was told the original video was filmed by the girl's brother. "It is a mirror of society and the fact that young people are doing such things shows how they have been raised," Ivanisevic said. The 44-second clip shows the young woman smiling as she picks several puppies out of a white bucket and viciously tosses them into rapidly moving river. At one point the girl exclaims "whee." Under Bosnian law, a person who kills or tortures animals can be fined anywhere from $19 to as much as $6,400. Animal rights groups around the world have condemned the girl's horrific actions. Several online groups have since been created, including several on Facebook. One Facebook group, "Find the Girl who Threw Puppies in the River" has more than 47,000 followers. It's been a year since Kanye West snatched the mic from country singer Taylor Swift's hands during her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video award at the 2009 VMA's and announced, "I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," Apparently Yeezy is still dealing with a lot of regret, or maybe even anger over the incident. Although he reportedly apologized to Swift, and she accepted, Ye is using his Twitter account to vent about how he was ostracised after the debacle. Kanye is going off this morning (September 4) about the media mistreating him, and the perception that he is racist. "Man I love Twitter... I've always been at the mercy of the press but no more... The media tried to demonize me They wanted yall to believe I was a monster in real life so you guys wouldn't listen or buy my music anymore I feel like they were waiting for the opportunity to go in all the way on me and when it came they beat me to a pulp Even now a lot of articles start there first 2 paragraphs about how much of an a**hole I am I accept the idea (ideal) that perception is reality When I say perception is reality I mean whatever you think is the truth... is your truth Some people's truth is Kanye is racist... It's not my truth but I do believe it's my Karma.... walk with me."

Kanye's last tweet is referring to him famously announcing that, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a live telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief on NBC in 2005. Many may have agreed with those comment regarding George Bush, if not the platform used to convey them. But the Taylor Swift incident left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. Kanye had a lot more to say about that. "How deep is the scar... I bled hard.. cancelled tour with the number one pop star in the world ... closed the doors of my clothing office Had to let employees go... for the first time I felt the impact of my brash actions ... I felt the recession from an ownership side People booed when I would go to concerts and the performer mentioned my name There are people who don't dislike me... they absolutely hate me!"

"That's when you realize perception is reality. I've been straying from this subject on twitter but I have to give it to you guys raw now. If you google A**hole my face may very well pop up 2 pages into the search. People tweeted that they wish I was dead... No listen. They wanted me to die people. I carry that. I smile and take pictures through that I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her She had nothing to do with my issues with award shows. She had no idea what hit her. She's justa lil girl with dreams like the rest of us. We're both artist and the media and managers are trying to get between us. Everyone wants to capitalize off this is some way There are people who have named there kids after me... can you imagine that next day in school. Even though I don't have kids It's not about race America. No one in our position ever stands up and says anything anymore I am not a bad person. Even in that moment I was only trying to do good but people don't always need my help Beyonce didn't need that. MTV didn't need that and Taylor and her family friends and fans definitely didn't want or need that TAYLOR LOVES RAP MUSIC... I LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC."

Well damn, this dude was on a roll. I honestly think he needs to let it go at this point though. twitter-5d.gif

Detroit -- Eminem and Jay-Z's "Home and Home" tour is now closed for business, until the concerts land at New York's Yankee Stadium on Sept. 13-14. Friday's massive concert -- promoter Live Nation reported an attendance of 45,000-plus, 3,000 more than attended Thursday's concert -- wrapped with Eminem performing "Lose Yourself." Again, Em wholeheartedly thanked Detroit for standing by him over the years during the introduction to "Not Afraid," sounding choked up in the process. Friday's run of guest stars was the same as Thursday's, save for Drake, who did not join Eminem during a midshow run-through of "Forever." Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Trick Trick and Young Jeezy all reprised their roles from Thursday night. Watching Jay-Z from an elevated platform in the center of the field was Lady Gaga, wearing a silver micro-skirt that blew up in the wind and sporting a long silver wig similar to the one she wore on her recent Vanity Fair cover. Gaga swayed to the rhythms of Jay's set, bobbed her head along to "Empire State of Mind" and held a diamond sign in the air during the bombastic "U Don't Know." Gaga, who is in town for her concert Saturday at the Palace of Auburn Hills, was surrounded by several bodyguard types and sipped from a seemingly bottomless plastic cup. She was visible to the thousands of fans on the field below, many of whom pointed and gawked when she made her way to her seat before Jay's set. She stayed for around an hour and ducked out to the backstage with around 20 minutes to go in Jay's set. Also spotted in the area was "Lost" star Dominic Monaghan. Rylie McGaharan, 15, of Toledo didn't come to Thursday's show but heard all about it. "I hope it's even better tonight," she said outside the ballpark while waiting for the gates to open. She hoped Rihanna would show up to perform "Love the Way You Lie" with Eminem. And why would Friday be better? "Eminem gets better and better every night," she said. On Friday, 15 minutes into his opening set, opener B.o.B addressed the audience. "How's it feel to be a part of history tonight, Detroit?" Source: Detroit News twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump DETROIT — You didn't think they were going to have two of the biggest hip-hop shows in the past decade without inviting 50 Cent to join in, did you? Fif and the Unit have been Eminem's special guests for the Home and Home shows, co-headlined by Jay-Z. The Detroit run started Thursday night at Detroit's Comerica Park and concluded Friday (September 3). Sitting down with MTV News before the second show, 50, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo expressed their excitement to be a part of the historic event. On Thursday, the Unit performed "Patiently Waiting," "I Get Money" and "In Da Club." And by the following morning, footage and photos from the show circulated on various websites. But thelifefiles.com caught a very unexpected gem: One of Jay's close friends, Lenny Santiago, snapped a picture of the Jiggaman and Fif talking backstage. The energy in the pic seemed to be positive, and both were smiling. It was surprising to all hip-hop fans, considering the fact that since last year, Fif has been throwing jabs at Hov in interviews and on songs such as "Flight 187." While Fif declined to say exactly what he and Jay conversed about on Thursday, he did say they didn't have serious beef. "We got a chance to kick it for a minute," 50 said. "I know people were interested in what that conversation was like. But they can ask Jay-Z. I take people's actions as if it's genuinely how they feel. I can only use what I saw you do as if that's what you meant. I can't understand what your motivation was prior to that." Fif has also had some well-documented issues with Diddy. Ever since Diddy aligned himself with Rick Ross several months ago, the General of the G-Unit has publicly lambasted the leader of Dirty Money. But 50 says a recent talk with Diddy helped clear the air between them. "I had a conversation with Puffy the night before Jay," the Queens mogul revealed. "He gave me a whole new perspective on his actions. He's like, 'I understand the way you felt because of what I was doing at the time. But I wasn't thinking what you was thinking I was. You done hit me nine times. I'm just in the fetal because I understand why you are attacking me. But if I can't touch bases with you to tell you what I'm thinking or why I did it, then you can't understand it.' We created a little clarity out there." The Home and Home tour continues in the Bronx, New York, on September 13 and 14 at Yankee Stadium

Video After The Jump A 28-year-old man who was recently released from prison was charged Saturday night in what police described as a bloody melee that left one dead and seven others wounded at a high school reunion in Cherry Hill earlier the same day. James L. Dixon of 900 Kevin Road was charged with fatally stabbing Carrington McNutt and injuring at least seven others at a Walbrook High School reunion for classes 1995 through 2005 at the Patapsco Arena on Annapolis Road, said Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman. "One individual basically went on a stabbing rampage," he said. Dixon is charged with first-degree murder, as well as several counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Saturday afternoon, friends and relatives streamed in and out of McNutt's rowhouse in the 2800 block of W. Lafayette Ave. The house was his childhood home, where he lived with his mother and sister. "Everybody from this neighborhood knew each other," said Carrington's sister, Chandra McNutt. She said lots of people from all over town were attending the reunion, although she did not attend. "I'm still in shock," she said from inside the door. She said her brother left behind a young daughter. Police say it is unclear at this point what caused the dispute. McNutt was stabbed in the neck and upper torso, Moses said. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m., about an hour after the fight. The other victims were taken to various area hospitals and are expected to survive, Moses said. Wesley Souders, a manager at the arena who was working during the event, said the contract was for about 600 people to attend the dance, which was supposed to end at 2 a.m. "They were playing their music. They were dancing. They seemed to be having a good time," he said. About 25 security guards were manning the event, Souders said, and police are routinely notified ahead of time when the space is rented out. Police had stopped in and reported that "everything is fine," Souders said, but the fight broke out shortly after. "We couldn't see exactly where it started," he said. The parking lot behind the Patapsco Arena was packed with people attending a flea market Saturday afternoon while workers wearing white plastic jumpsuits cleaned inside the event hall. Some blood drops remained near the back entrance and down a concrete wheelchair ramp. Moses said a knife — the apparent weapon — and a handgun, which was not used in the fight, were recovered from the scene. Security on site detained witnesses who pointed to the suspect, police said. McNutt and Dixon were involved in incidents of violence throughout their lives, court records show. In June 2005, McNutt was shot on his own block. He was charged with attempted murder in the shooting a 28-year-old on the same block a few months later. The charge was not pursued, court records show. Two years ago, McNutt was one of three people shot during an altercation outside the China Room nightclub on Calvert Street downtown and he had a number of drug convictions in Baltimore courts. Dixon also had a prior criminal history. In May 2003 he pled guilty to a drug distribution charge, receiving a 10-year sentence with nine years and six months suspended and three years of probation. A little more than a year later, he was found guilty of violating his probation and sentenced to six years. He was also found guilty in October 2005 on a burglary charge from 2004 and was sentenced to 15 years with all but five years suspended and three years of probation.
