POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WESH2) — Over the weekend, a man in Polk County allegedly shot & killed another man while celebrating his own birthday.

Following the Aug. 27 early morning shooting, Thomas Jackson, 35, of Loughman, was arrested.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, at around 2:30 am on Saturday, deputies were called to a shooting on Meadow Green Drive in unincorporated Davenport.

Jackson was reportedly drinking while having a birthday party with his girlfriend & another couple, according to deputies. The man escorted him outside to defuse their argument when he & his girlfriend got into it.

The 2 women then observed Jackson standing over the victim's body & a firearm on the ground after hearing several gunshots. While the other approached Jackson, the first 1 raced to aid the victim.

Although Jackson allegedly told the detectives that the victim "came at him," neither Jackson nor the victim had any visible injuries that would indicate a scuffle had taken place.

“Jackson had a post incident wallet card which instructed him what to tell law enforcement. If he thought he could murder someone & use this as get out of jail free card, he was sadly mistaken,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Jackson allegedly had a history of displaying firearms during altercations & had been in a fight the day before. In addition to being accused of fighting & aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, he has also been charged with probation violation, endangering a child while impaired & intentionally damaging a monument.

Jackson was arrested & charged with second-degree murder with a weapon.

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — A biracial man who says he was fending off a racist attack on a Georgia highway when he fired a gun into a pickup truck was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for fatally shooting a 17-year-old girl in the truck’s back seat.

The trial jury spared 23-year-old Marc Wilson from a potential life prison sentence by acquitting him of felony murder for Haley Hutcheson.

Defense attorneys for Wilson was justified to shoot in self-defense when the pickup truck’s driver tried to run Wilson’s car off the road.

Prosecutor Barclay Black told the jury Wilson had no legal justification for firing a handgun in traffic & could have escaped if he was being harassed. 

Wilson's sentencing scheduled sentencing for Sept. 20.

Wilson, the son of a Black father & white mother & his white girlfriend had just picked up food when the pickup truck pulled alongside Wilson. Wilson told police the pickup truck tried to run his car off the road as white teenagers inside yelled racist slurs.

The driver of the pickup & 2 passengers who took the witness stand denied threatening Wilson. They also acknowledged that they had been drinking that night, but denied being drunk.

One of the truck’s passengers, Luke Conley, declined to testify by invoking his Fifth Amendment right against giving self-incriminating testimony. He has been charged with misdemeanor obstruction after police said he gave investigators conflicting information about the shooting.

Emma Rigdon, Wilson’s girlfriend at the time, testified that she didn’t hear any racial slurs. But recalled being frightened when the pickup truck “started swerving into our lane” & forced Wilson’s car onto the shoulder of the highway.

Tyrese is now officially single & he will be heavily investing in his child's future ... that's how the judge advised him to view the $10k he'll be paying monthly in child support going forward.

Tyrese's courtroom showdown with his estranged wife, Samantha Lee Gibson, wrapped up Tuesday evening in Georgia with the judge ordering the actor to pay $10,690/month in child support. The exes have a daughter, Soraya.

Perhaps sensing Tyrese wasn't happy with the outcome, the judge addressed him directly, saying ... "This is not a punishment for you. Put that money where it belongs, in the child! The judge also advised Samantha & Tyrese not to bad mouth each other in front of Soraya & said Tyrese should be happy if his ex moves into a nicer house, because it means a better standard of living for his daughter.

Now, the hitch for Tyrese is the judge said the $10k/month dates back to when Samantha first filed for divorce in Sept. 2020 ... which means he owes his ex a lump sum of $209k.

However, Tyrese got a credit, noting he had been making Samantha's car payments for 2 years, the judge knocked off $46k ... bringing the lump sum down to $169k.

More good news -- at least for Tyrese -- the judge said neither party will pay spousal support. 

Almost as an afterthought, the very last thing the judge did was to grant Samantha's petition for divorce -- so, both of them are single ... even if they're not yet ready to mingle.

BTW, Tyrese is already paying $10,690/month in child support for his teenage daughter, Shayla, who lives in California with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell.

The Drug Enforcement Administration issued an advisory Tuesday about an "emerging trend" of "brightly-colored" fentanyl pills being used to lure children and young people. What is often called "rainbow fentanyl" has been seized by law enforcement agencies in 18 states just this month, the DEA said. "The drugs, made to look like candy, comes in several forms, including "pills, powder and blocks that resembles sidewalk chalk."

"Rainbow fentanyl — fentanyl pills & powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes — is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids & young adults," DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, can be 50 times more powerful than heroin & 100 times more powerful than morphine. Fentanyl was developed as a pain management treatment for cancer patients but has become a widely used street drug linked to thousands of deaths from overdoses.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were more than 107,000 drug overdose deaths in the U.S. in 2021, with synthetic opioids accounting for about 71,000 of those.

Milgram says that two Mexican cartels were believed to responsible for an influx of fentanyl in the U.S.

"It's man-made," Milgram said. "So it's important to know that there is an unlimited amount that these 2 cartels can make. All they need are precursor chemicals that they are buying from China, from these Chinese chemical companies, bringing them to Mexico & synthesizing massive quantities."

In July, authorities discovered a half-ton of fentanyl in a warehouse in Culiacan, Mexico, in what may have been the largest fentanyl seizure in history. It had an estimated street value of $230 million.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (Click2Houston) – A man accused of killing a woman & injuring her sister in a shooting near Friendswood Monday has died after turning the gun on himself.

The victims have been identified as Redha Sayed, 18 & Mahenoor Sayed, 20.

It is believed the situation may have stemmed from an argument with the suspect. The man shot the 2 sisters & then fled the scene in a gray sedan.

Redha Sayed was pronounced dead at the scene. Mahenoor Sayed, who survived the shooting, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police located the possible suspect in the shooting while he was in a parked car, The man shot himself as they approached. He was transported to the hospital and later died.

A witness said that 2 cars parked right in front of his home as he & his wife were watching on their surveillance cameras.

“I feel it’s very graphic. It’s probably only something you’d see in a movie, but it’s real life," he said. I see a young lady get out of a vehicle. She walks up to the car & she opens the door & she’s having a conversation with whoever is in that car. It appeared to me that they knew each other & they were having an argument.”

He said 3 other women got out of the car & walked up to the car where the 2 were talking.

“She’s telling the other young lady, can she please move aside, move aside ... that’s when you heard 2 shots go off & both of those ladies hit the ground.

Jake Paul's next opponent could be his biggest challenge to date -- it's none other than UFC legend and pro boxer Anderson Silva, TMZ Sports has confirmed.

47-year-old Silva is the former UFC middleweight champ ... and some even consider him the greatest MMA fighter ever, beating names like Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin and more.

We know what you're saying -- another UFC fighter?? But, anyone who's been following Silva's career knows the guy has had a resurgence in boxing ... and currently holds a 3-1 record. He most recently beat Tito Ortiz in September 2021. The loss came ages ago in 1998.

His most impressive accomplishment in the ring was a win over Julio Caesar Chavez, Jr. -- son of the legendary Mexican fighter -- who at one time was the WBC middleweight champ.
