WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor University's board of regents said Thursday that it will fire football coach Art Briles and re-assign university President Kenneth Starr amid questions over the school's handling of sexual assault complaints against players.
The nation's largest Baptist university said in a statement Thursday that it had suspended Briles "with intent to terminate." Starr will leave the position of president on May 31, but the school says he will serve as chancellor.
The university also placed athletic director Ian McCaw on probation.
Baylor asked a law firm last year to conduct a review of its handling of sexual assault cases following allegations that the football program mishandled several cases of players attacking women.
Art Briles
The university's statement said the review revealed "a fundamental failure."
Baylor has faced increasing criticism in recent months for its handling of reports of rape and other violent incidents involving football players and students. One victim has sued the university, saying it was deliberately indifferent to her allegations against a former player who was eventually convicted of sexually assaulting her.
Starr ordered an investigation last year but has been mostly silent amid mounting criticism over the school's handling of the complaints, which erupted under his leadership. He took over as the university's president in 2010, about a decade after the former prosecutor investigated former President Clinton's sexual relationship with White House intern Monica Lewisnky.
Ken Starr
The football team, whose players were at the center of the upheaval, enjoyed unprecedented success under Briles' tenure, including two Big 12 championships in the last three years. That success brought a financial windfall, and in 2014, Baylor opened a new, $250-million on-campus football stadium. But Briles' program has also been criticized for recruiting or accepting transfer players without regard to the harm they might cause fellow students.
Starr rode the waves of the program's success, and often ran on the football field with Baylor students in pregame ceremonies. But as investigations began into the school's handling of sexual assault allegations against players, Starr provided only brief comments, even as criticism of the school mounted.
In a February statement issued by university, Starr said "our hearts break for those whose lives are impacted by execrable acts of sexual violence." And at a prayer breakfast last month, Starr told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "I am in favor of transparency. Stand up, take your medicine if you made a mistake."
Baylor's Board of Regents was recently briefed by a law firm hired to investigate how the school responded to assault incidents, and the school on Thursday released a summary of its findings. Starr initiated the review in 2015, after former football player Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of sexually assaulting a female soccer player.
Ukwuachu, who was convicted in 2015, transferred to Baylor after he was dismissed from Boise State. Ukwuachu's former girlfriend testified during his rape trial in Texas that he had struck and choked her when he attended Boise State.
Ukwuachu's former coach, Chris Peterson, now the coach at Washington, said he "thoroughly apprised" Briles about the circumstances of Ukuwachu's dismissal. Briles disputed that account, saying he talked with Peterson and there was no mention of the incident.
The school is also facing a federal lawsuit from a former student claiming the school was "deliberately indifferent" to rape allegations levied at a former football player Tevin Elliott, who was convicted in 2014 of sexually assaulting the woman.
The uproar following Ukwuachu's conviction caused Baylor to initiate the review by the Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton, and to announce a $5 million effort to improve efforts on how it responds to sexual assault, including adding another investigator and more staff.
But the Ukwuachu case was just the start of months of revelations of football players being involved in violent incidents with little or no repercussions. At least seven other woman have publicly come forward to say the school ignored their sexual assault allegations.

Police Commissioner Bill Brattonblamed the violence on "gangster rap."
"The crazy world of these so-called rap artists basically celebrates the violence," said Bratton Thursday morning on WCBS AM. "Unfortunately, that violence sometimes manifests itself in their performances and that's exactly what happened last evening. The backgrounds of some of these people, unfortunately the lifestyles they led or had, follows them into the entertainment world. No question a lot of talented artists, enjoy the music. Music all too often celebrates violence, degradation of women and the drug culture. It's unfortunate that some of them, as they get fame and fortune, cannot get out of the life."
According to ABC 7, Bratton added that NYPD detectives "have a pretty good idea of what happened" and should be able to "wrap this up very quickly."

Taxstone is not easing up on his accusation that Cam'Ron is a snitch for mentioning his 2005 shooting in Washington, D.C., in the song "You Gotta Love It."
After Cam'Ron responded Wednesday, May 25, in a video to Tax's controversialVladTVinterview where he also calledTupac Shakura "rat," the podcaster doubled down on his statements via Twitter and threatened to smack Killa.
"If you a rat you a rat don't Try to change the definition," Tax wrote. "It's cool man can't change The definition of Rat. Man up and be honest and whatever smoke you with I'm with it twice. Damn nigga can't even be a man and admit his wrong thugs don't do that but TRU life already proved he wasn't that. Then he gone put 3,400 through a money machine lmaooooo. DJ Drama gets right down to business with the release of an official music video for "Wishing" featuring Chris Brown, Skeme and Lyquin. This is the lead single off of Drama's forthcoming album titled "Quality Street Music 2."
At 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, the rapper T.I. was about to take the stage at the 1,025-person ballroom-style music venue when the shooting began.
It's not yet known how many people were inside the building at 17 Irving Place during the shooting.
Troy Ave, 30, whose real name is Roland Collins, was the first person shot. He was hit in the leg and is expected to recover. He was taken to the hospital.
A 33-year-old man was shot in the stomach and pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital. A 34-year-old man was shot in the chest and is stable at Bellevue Hospital.
A 26-year-old woman also was shot in the leg and was taken to Bellevue in stable condition.
No arrests were made.
The shooting is not believed to be connected to TI, who left the green room before the shots were fired. But an appearance scheduled for later in the night at another club, 1 Oak, was canceled and police closed the club for a period.
Rappers Maino and Uncle Murda were performing when the shooting started. The New York City Police Department is looking into whether the shooting was linked to a dispute between crews linked to Maino and Troy Ave.
There were metal detectors for T.I. concert-goers at Irving Plaza. All the people in the green room were credentialed, and it is possible the suspect was also credentialed.
Detectives will interview everyone who was in the green room at the time of the shooting and look at video footage from inside and outside the venue. They are canvasing nearby businesses for video. Ballistics were recovered from the green room area.
Podcaster Taxstone stirred up a hornet's nest Wednesday, May 25, during a Vlad TV interview where he called Tupac Shakur a snitch for what he believes was the late rapper's implication that The Notorious B.I.G. was involved in his 1994 shooting at Quad Studios in New York City.
Tax also included Cam'Ron in the same category.
In 2005 Cam'Ron was shot while driving his blue Lamborghini in Washington, D. C. At the time he and Jay Z weren't on good terms.
The following year Killa released a Hov diss song titled "You Gotta Love It."
"O.K. First off, you a bitch nigga / Only reason I'm doing this / I'mma just name 5 reasons real quick, got a hundred fifty / First - you stole Rocafella from Dame / Second - you stole Kanye from Dame / Third - you stole Rocawear from Dame / Fourth - I seen the nigga throw that diamond up before them shots was fired," Cam rapped.
Tax told Vlad that the reference toRoc-A-Fella Records'diamond logo would make police assume Cam was talking about someone from the label, which would make the Harlem rapper a snitch as well.
Cam soon hopped on Instagram and posted a response video.
"I just woke up and some nigga talking about I'm snitching," Cam says. "Let me explain something to y'all motherfuckers. Snitching is when you have paperwork that you tried to send somebody to jail or you sent somebody to jail. Not what you hear in a rap song. Not what you hear in an interview ... interrogation room. Not on the streets, jail bars. I actually went to jail for not snitching, nigga," Killa continued, "I violated my probation for being in D.C. and didn't tell. So I went to jail on Rikers Island for violating my probation."
Cam's video had the following caption.
"#FactsAndFabric I'm not even gonna say a nigga name.. But I'm wit the shits my nigga.. Get off my dick.. Lol.. And get to da money.. #UfinishOrYouDone and stop try and dis Tupac"
Killer Mike has become one of hip-hop's most prominent political speakers in recent memory with his aid in the Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. At times, he tends to overlook certain news topics since "there's bigger sh** to worry about than how Trump feels about the KKK." Telling DJ Vlad he doesn't think about Donald Trump whatsoever, Killer Mike simply explained there's "parts of the stage show that I refuse to pay attention to - that's one of them."
Moving on, Killer Mike - born Michael Render - shared his personal experiences with police brutality, and how he realized "the trap" wasn't for him after getting assaulted by the Atlanta Police Department's now-disbanded Red Dog unit. "Selling drugs is not somebody sitting in a bando with cocaine and f**king guns," Killer Mike made clear. According to him, young men who sell drugs today are "being used for cheap labor," and at best make upwards of $200 a week. "The trap is literally dead," he added while discussing the origin of the term.
Killer Mike also revealed he believes in the right of the KKK, among other things. "Now I also believe if you try to interfere with my right, I have a right to kill you. Dead. That's simply it," he offered while nodding his head. "What's dangerous to me is not a racist wearing Air Jordans and a white robe. What's scary to me is racists who secretly hide their racism behind laws and policies and wear black robes."

Famed podcaster Taxstone stirred up controversy when he called 2Pac a rat for comments made about the shooting at Quad Studios, and he clarified the statement during a recent interview with VladTV. Taxstone said that he believes that the late rapper insinuated to who shot him, and by his definition that makes him a rat.
During the conversation Taxstone also spoke about Cam'ron saying that he saw "the niggas throw that diamond up before them shots was fired," after he was shot in D.C. in 2005. Going by his own definition of what is snitching, Taxstone says he believes Cam'ron snitched in this situation.

Betrayal, Family, Love, Vengeance and Justice are the themes of the trailer for season 3 of the hit STARZ crime drama, "Power."
Which way will Ghost (Omari Hardwick) turn with Kanan (Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson) wanting him dead and Holly (Lucy Walters) trying to turn his best friend Tommy (Joseph Sikora) against him?
Those questions and many more will be answered beginning on the July 17 season premiere, as the show shifts to Sundays for 10 action packed one-hour episodes.
“There’s representation of this lifestyle in every cop film that you’ve seen. But it’s the guy that jumps the gate and ends up in jail, not the one who finds success,” executive producer and star, 50 Cent, told EW. “When you show that side of it, it [speaks] to the rebellious streak in all of us.”
“Together, we’ve really constructed a world where all the choices are deliberate,” added the show's creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp of collaborating with Jackson on the forthcoming season’s storyline. “Ghost has no idea how to just be James, and how to let go of his Ghost persona entirely. He doesn’t know how to go straight. The theme of the season is ‘Be careful what you wish for.’ But is there something within Ghost that keeps him from being that person he wants to be?”
Former Bad Boy Records rapper Craig Mack rose to fame in 1994 when he released the hit song "Flava in Ya Ear" off of his debut album, "Project Funk da World."
The 45-year old Queens, New York native would go on to release one more album,"Operation: Get Down,"in 1997. After that he faded into obscurity.
Around 2012 Mack joined The Overcomer Ministry in Walterboro, South Carolina. He gave all off of his worldly possessions to the church, that some have called a cult.
In a just released video Mack stands alongside the ministry's founder, The Last Day Prophet of God, Brother R.G. Stair, and freestyles about God and being saved.

Chris Brown scored a big legal victory in court on Tuesday, May 24, over Nia Guzman, the mother of his one-year old daughter Royalty Brown.
Guzman was seeking to have Brown's visitations monitored and limited because she claims the singer uses drugs and is affiliated with gangs.
The judge in the case shot down her request. Brown will continue to have joint legal and physical custody of Royalty. He gets 12 unmonitored visits a month.
TMZ reports that Guzman is also asking that Brown be ordered to cough up $16,000 a month in child support instead of the $2,500 he's currently paying. There's been no ruling on that request yet.
