CNN — A middle school teacher in Pflugerville, Texas, has been fired, district officials said Monday, after video was posted to social media showing the White teacher tell his students his race “is the superior one.”
In 1 video, the teacher can be seen saying to his multi-racial class, “Deep down in my heart, I’m ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one.”
A student off camera asks, “So White is better than all?”
The teacher replies, “Let me finish. I think everybody thinks that. They’re just not honest about it.”
After some other discussion in the video, a student asks, “You said you are a racist, right?”
“I did, yeah, I’m trying to be honest,” the teacher replies.
In the audio, a student asks the teacher to repeat himself. The teacher says, “I said, ‘I am a racist.’ That’s what I said. Do you know what that means?”
Students’ responses overlap & the teacher continues, “It means that deep down in my heart, I think my race is the superior race. That’s what it means to be a racist.”
The teacher in question has not been identified by PfISD, nor has the district provided any additional context surrounding the conversation.
CNN — A veteran homicide detective in Kansas City, Kansas conspired with a local drug kingpin to help run a sex-trafficking operation involving underage girls.
Roger Golubski, a retired 35-year-veteran of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department allegedly used his position to shield the operation from law enforcement investigations, according to the 3-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Topeka. Golubski entered a plea of not guilty, said his attorney, Chris Joseph.
The sex trafficking operation, which was run out of an apartment complex in the 1990s by a local crack dealer named Cecil Brooks & 2 other men, victimized girls as young as 13.
In exchange for his protection, Golubski collected cash from Brooks & was allowed to “choose girls to provide him sexual services.”
Golubski, who retired from the police department in 2010, was charged in September with sexually assaulting a woman & a teenage girl 2 decades ago “while acting under color of law,” meaning he used his position as a police officer to commit the crimes. He has pleaded not guilty.
As he awaited trial under home confinement in that case, prosecutors unveiled a second indictment on Monday charging him with “conspiracy against rights” & 2 counts of “involuntary servitude” in connection with the alleged sex trafficking ring. Both cases stem from a years-long grand jury probe.
According to Monday’s indictment, Brooks recruited “young girls who were runaways” or came from broken homes & kept them locked in a room at an apartment complex where he and co-defendants LeMark Roberson & Richard “Bone” Robinson used threats & physical beatings to force them to engage in sex acts. The indictment refers to 2 unidentified victims who allege they were held captive & forced into sex.
One of the victims told authorities she was just 16 years old when Golubski pulled her hair, choked her & raped her.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (WKRC) - An Alabama man is accused of brutally attacking his teenage daughter, claiming she told her mother that he may be having an affair.
Police were called to a trailer park on November 7 for a report of a father abusing his daughter.
Responding deputies say when they arrived, they noticed shattered beer bottles, a broken Nintendo Switch & other items outside that had been cut up, as well as drops of blood near the door.
Inside there were apparently several broken electronics, including a TV & laptops, kitchen items scattered everywhere & children's bedroom furniture had been thrown around.
Christopher Andrighetti, 39, was found hiding in a closet, covered in blood from self-inflicted lacerations on his arms & waist.
He was treated by medics on scene before being taken into custody.
Deputies continued to search the area & found 2 children.
The older child, a 14-year-old girl, reportedly had "obvious injuries that required her to be taken to a local hospital."
She told law enforcement that her father, Andrighetti, attacked her.
The teen apparently said she had told her mother about a social media account Andrighetti had & that she suspected he was having an affair.
Investigators say he slapped her, punched her, shoved her to the ground, struck her with a shower curtain rod & a piece of wood & threw things at her, including glass bottles.
Andrighetti then ordered the victim to clean up the mess.
When she went to get trash bags from the kitchen, she noticed the front door was open & ran to a neighbor's house.
Andrighetti is charged with domestic violence/assault, child abuse & criminal mischief. His bond was set at $200,000.
MOSCOW, Idaho (KREM2) — Moscow Police are investigating the deaths of 4 University of Idaho students, the victims of a suspected homicide.
The 4 students were found dead in a home on Sunday near the university camps.
Moscow Police received a call just before noon on Sunday about an unconscious person. When police arrived on the scene, they found 3 people dead in the home.
The University of Idaho canceled classes on Monday, Nov. 14 out of respect for the students who died. All campuses will remain open & classes will resume on Tuesday, the University said in a letter to students.
"An event of this magnitude can understandably have significant impacts on those left behind. As Vandals, we must come together & lift each other up," University of Idaho President Scott Green said.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The man suspected of fatally shooting 3 University of Virginia students & injuring 2 others, is now in police custody.
23-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. has been arrested. Henrico Police announced he was taken into custody without incident before 11 a.m. on Edgelawn Street. He is charged with 3 counts of second-degree murder.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, as UVA students were returning from a field trip. Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis & D’Sean Perry were killed. All 3 were members of the football team.
UVA President Jim Ryan said a student is also reported to be in critical conditions, while another is said to be in good condition.
“My heart is broken for the victims and their families & for all those who knew and loved them & they are all in my prayers. As I said before, when I see our students, I see my own kids & I cannot imagine anything worse for a parent and as a child,” Ryan said.
The city & county released a joint statement, saying in part: “This incident is considered ongoing & the University of Virginia, in partnership with state & federal law enforcement partners, is leading the investigation. Public safety personnel with Albemarle County & the City of Charlottesville are supporting the investigation. Expect to see police activity & an increased security presence throughout the community today.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Pereira has Israel Adesanya’s number in any combat sport -- make it 3-0, and now the Brazilian knockout artist also has his rival’s UFC middleweight championship.
Pereira fought back out from a slow start and rocked Adesanya in the fifth round to score the TKO win and claim the 185-pound championship in the main event of UFC 281 on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.
This man literally said no matter where you go I’m on your ass damn izzy https://t.co/1NUiVEpaBw
The 35-year-old Pereira defeated Adesanya twice -- once by knockout -- in their old kickboxing days and the wins got the challenger fast-tracked to a title match after just three UFC fights.
“For everybody that said I couldn’t do five rounds, look at what I did just now,” Pereira said through an interpreter.
Pereira capped his rapid rise to the title in front of a Garden crowd going wild as he tagged Adesanya with a vicious right that sent the champion into the cage and then socked him with a hook. Adesanya, the Nigeria-born, New Zealand-raised fighter, slumped against the cage and Pereira went for the finishing blows but referee Marc Goddard stopped the bout at 2:01 in the fifth.
Knocked at times for his methodical style, the 31-year-old Adesanya (23-2) known as “The Last Stylebender” got the MSG crowd on his side once he clobbered Pereira with a pounding right and then a fast left hand to the face that ended the first round and sent the challenger reeling.
Trying to shake off the beating, Pereira stood and beckoned fans to get louder as he waited for the bell to signal the second. He raised his arms again to the sellout crowd of 20,845, only this time in victory.
Adesanya had been champion since 2019 and his loss snapped his 12-fight win streak at middleweight, only one shy of Anderson Silva’s division record.
Zhang Weili won the 115-belt for a second time and UFC’s first Chinese champion made quick work against Carla Esparza with a rear naked choke submission at 1:05 of the second round.
Zhang (23-3) patted her championship belt after UFC President Dana White wrapped it around her waist inside the octagon. Zhang only successfully defended the championship once during her first championship reign. She beat Jéssica Andrade in 2019 and won a decision against Joanna Jedrzejczyk before she suffered consecutive losses to Rose Namajunas.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar lost the final bout of his MMA career when he was dropped by Chris Gutierrez at 2:01 of the first round of their fight. The 41-year-old Edgar absorbed a flying knee to the head for a brutal KO loss in his last time in the cage in a career that started in 2005. Gutierrez and Edgar had a long embrace after the spectacular finish in the 135-pound fight that quieted another packed crowd at MSG.
A Toms River, New Jersey native, Edgar finished his career at 24-11-1 overall and 18-11-1 in the UFC.
Edgar entered the night with a UFC-record 7 hours, 55 minutes and 9 seconds of total fight time. His 1,799 significant strikes were second-best, and 73 takedowns were fourth on the career list. He held the lightweight championship for nearly two years from 2010 to 2012.
“Ladies and gentleman, this is the final fight of his illustrious Hall of Fame career,” octagon announcer Bruce Buffer bellowed to a roaring crowd.
The intros to a Garden stuffed with A-listers that included Sylvester Stallone, Halle Berry, Miles Teller and Mike Tyson were about as long as the fight.
“I’ve got my family here,” a crestfallen Edgar said. “That’s all that matters.”
Dustin Poirier made Michael Chandler tap in the third round of bloody slugfest that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Poirier slapped on the rear naked choke to stop a frenetic match that had both fighters seemingly on the brink of victory — the official scorecards had the fight even entering the third round — on multiple occasions. In the second round, Chandler had blood flowing from his nose like an open tap as he mounted Poirier. Poirier complained blood leaked into his eyes and he told the referee that Chandler stuck fingers in his mouth and pulled his head back.
A KO couldn’t stop this one. Poirier ran his record to 21-6 in UFC with the submission finish while Chandler dropped to 2-3 since the former Bellator lightweight champion left for UFC in 2020. Poirier became the sixth fighter in UFC history to win at least 21 fights,
The card fell on the 29th anniversary of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event held in Denver and six years to the day of the first UFC card at Madison Square Garden. New York became the final state to legalize mixed martial arts cards and that opened the door to some of the richest cards in UFC history at both MSG and Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
UFC 281 grossed more than $11.5 million and the company now holds the No. 1 and No. 2 highest-grossing MSG events of all time.
A fan favorite, Edgar has seen the evolution of UFC as much as any fighter since his 2007 debut in the company. UFC has one year left on a $1.5 billion, five-year deal with ESPN that seemed as inconceivable in 2007 as much as it did in 1993.
Now look, Zhang is wildly popular and a key figure in MMA’s rising significance in China, Hollywood stars mug for the cameras at the biggest events and the company’s attempt at ballooning into a billion-dollar endeavor was a smash hit.
“It’s still pretty cool, surreal,” UFC President Dana White said. “And to be on the roll we’ve been on this year, too. Every Saturday gets bigger and bigger. It’s still a fun ride.”
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A group of Temple University students is speaking about their frightening ordeal early Friday morning when two masked men entered their off-campus apartment, armed with a gun & robbed them.
There were 11 students inside at the time of the robbery. 6 female residents, 3 of their boyfriends & 2 female friends were sleeping over.
"I think the sad part is, we all talked in the room, we all realized once they came into the room, everyone was kind of like 'oh, it's our time now,'" 1 student said.
They said they were woken up by a knock at the door.
Out front were the 2 masked suspects, at least 1 had a gun.
1 of the roommates let the 2 men in the apartment thinking they were young men who probably knew someone inside.
"We were all just woken up. There was a guy with a gun. He came into a couple of our rooms. He made 1 of us go & wake up the rest of the roommates with the guy with the gun," a second student said.
However, the students soon figured out the men were not in the right location.
The suspects kept asking the students, "Where are the drugs? Where are the drugs?"
The suspects were apparently told this was a home they would be able to find drugs & money. But that was not the case.
The armed robbers proceeded to lock all 11 students in the basement.
"We were all kept in the same room together for over an hour they were there," the second student said.
All the victims were unharmed but shaken as they were forced to hand over their cell phones, debit cards along with their PIN numbers & car keys.
"You never think it's going to happen to you, but when it does it's like a shock," the second student said.
Police arrested 2 Lawrence men last week and charged them with planning to sell fentanyl to soldiers who were seeking help for addiction & substance abuse issues at the Bedford Veterans Affairs Medical Center, federal investigators said.
Deiby Bladimil Casado Ruiz & Pedro Antonio Sanchez Bernabel are charged with 1 count of conspiracy to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl & 1 count of distribution of fentanyl. Casado Ruiz is also charged with an additional count of distribution of fentanyl.
Investigators said Casado Ruiz and Bernabel conspired to sell more than 40 grams of fentanyl to patients at the Bedford Veterans Affairs Medical Center who were seeking treatment for addiction disorder.
"What these 2 men are accused of doing is absolutely appalling," Joseph R. Bonavolonta, a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said. "We believe they targeted veterans who have valiantly defended our country's freedoms & are now seeking treatment for their substance abuse disorder, and plied them with fentanyl, a deadly narcotic 50-100 times stronger than morphine."
The men face between 5 & 40 years in prison in convicted, the US Attorney's Office said.
Drug addiction among soldiers is a growing problem, according to the VA. About 20 percent of veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder also have a substance abuse problem.

A mother is seeking justice after her son was shot by his Uber driver during an altercation in Hollywood.
The friction started when 19-year-old Miles — whose mother asked to conceal his last name — asked the Uber driver to drop him off at a different location nearby.
Hollywood Police said the teen attacked the driver — but his mother, April, said that's not possible.
"He has never been in a fight in his entire life," she said. "He is barely 130 pounds. He is 19 years old. He does not confront people at all. If anything, he is like the peacemaker among his friends."
Police said the Uber driver drove a short distance away & then called police.
Miles was able to make it inside the development, where his grandparents live.
A witness saw him on the ground & called 911.
The teen is now at Memorial Regional Hospital & is set to undergo surgery.
April said Hollywood Police detectives told her when Miles exited the car, the driver followed and also left the car.
"So why wasn’t the driver arrested? Who is the aggressor here, if he exited after Miles got out of the car?" she said.
Uber said in a statement that its policy prohibits riders & their guests, as well as drivers and delivery people, from carrying firearms.
"What's been reported is concerning," an Uber spokesperson said. "We are continuing to look into this, and working to get in touch with the involved parties. We stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation."
Police said the driver had injuries to his face from the attack. He is also cooperating with law enforcement.
"Uber has a policy where their drivers cannot carry firearms. So what is he doing carrying a firearm?" said the family's lawyer, David Kubiliun.

Voters in & states have approved ballot measures that will change their state constitutions to prohibit slavery & involuntary servitude as punishment for crime, while those in a fifth state rejected a flawed version of the question.
The measures approved Tuesday could curtail the use of prison labor in Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee & Vermont.
In Louisiana, a former slave-holding state & 1 of a handful that sentences convicted felons to hard labor, lawmakers trying to get rid of forced prisoner labor ended up torpedoing their own measure. They told voters to reject it because the ballot measure included ambiguous language that did not prohibit involuntary servitude in the criminal justice system.
“It is time for all Americans to come together & say that it must be struck from the U.S. Constitution. There should be no exceptions to a ban on slavery,” Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, a Democrat said.
More than a dozen states still have constitutions that include language permitting slavery & involuntary servitude for prisoners. Several other states have no constitutional language for or against the use of forced prison labor.
Today, prison labor is a multibillion-dollar practice. By comparison, workers can make pennies on the dollar. And prisoners who refuse to work can be denied privileges such as phone calls & visits with family, as well as face solitary confinement, all punishments that are eerily similar to those used during antebellum slavery.
