It's been three years since Lupe Fiasco dropped his last album. In today's hip hop world that's an eternity. Lupe's fans are ready to rise up and revolt against his label, Atlantic Records. On October 15 fans will be outside Atlantic's headquarters protesting and demanding Lupe's long awaited 'Lasers' album be released according to the Village Voice. 17 year old Mathew La Corte is the organizer of the protest dubbed Fiasco Friday. He and a lot of other fans are simply fed up with Atlantic holding Lupe's album hostage with no release date in sight. La Corte has amassed 29,000 signatures on a petition, there's also a Facebook group with 900 members. He talked to Village Voice about how this all started. "Well, three years ago Lupe came out and said that he was going to do a new album. And we were kind of waiting around for things to happen. Then Lupe started to release some information about how the album was finished, the album was done, and he gave it into his record label Atlantic and nothing was happening. It was in their hands and he couldn't do anything. So we continued to wait. And then there was a petition that was started, and people started to spread that around, and now I think we're at 29,000 signatures. But we gave that in to Atlantic this summer and what happened was they tweeted that it was coming; that was all they were saying. They refused to give us any official information about why it hasn't been released. And I think many of us feel personally disrespected that they really have blatantly just been completely silent on this issue--that's basically what started this whole thing." When asked why pick Lupe out of hundreds or rappers who get their albums shelved every year, La Corte had this to say. "Personally I feel that Lupe Fiasco is a completely different breed of rapper. There are a lot of other types of rappers and what we really wanted to focus on was not talking about other rappers and what they do and naming names, but focusing on Lupe and his positive message and the things he talks about in his songs. It's also what he does outside the record booth and all the things he does for charity. He just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last year for charity. He just donated coats for a children's charity. He's a rapper but he's also a social advocate, he's a political activist. He does things that really break the mold of that traditional rapper, and I think that's what draws a lot of people to his music is that here's a guy who is really talking about some of the most major issues that a lot of people feel, and that's why a lot of people can relate to him. Because we all, as the youth and even as older people, we have thoughts about what's going on, what's happening around us and we want to express those thoughts. And people have said, "Oh, there are so many other reasons you could be protesting. Why are you protesting Lupe Fiasco?" I think that it's important that we get behind one person who's going put out information and ideas that other rappers aren't. That's a major portion of why we're doing this in the first place. Why is Atlantic not putting out this record? You can see right now how strong of a fanbase he has. Is the issue that it's not commercial? You're not going to hear a Lupe Fiasco songs on many radio stations. Are you gonna be able to get that money as the Atlantic Music Corporation from radio play? It's not gonna happen. So what idea is Atlantic Records putting out? That it's okay to bring our children up with this music that's all about me going out and partying tonight? Is that really what we're all looking for? I mean, rap and music and creative expression has forever been used to reflect the society, and what's going on in the world right now. I think there's a lot of other things that rappers can be expressing, and the things that are on the radio are really do not reflect what this society is all about. And I think that's why there's so much push behind Lupe, because he's really much more than just a rapper from Chicago. He represents a generation, and a movement." It's good to see fans actually doing something instead of sitting in front of their computers b*tching and whining. Whether it will make a difference remains to be seen. twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump In a recent interview with True Stories Radio Brian Pumper was asked about allegations he jacked the beat for his Juelz Santana diss record "Ratchets" from some rappers in Coney Island. Pumper responded by saying he and his producer made the beat, and that the Coney Island dudes were "clowns". What Pumper didn't realize at the time is that the dudes he dissed were Math Hoffa, D. Chamberz and the NYB crew. He takes the time to dead the beef before it goes any further. Saying he's since spoken with Chamberz and hopes they can possibly do a joint together in the future. With that bullet hopefully dodged, he went in on his favorite target of late, Lethal Lipps. "Lethal Lipps you big fat ham smuggling daughter of a b*tch. How dare you come out that ugly meatball you call a face talking sh*t about me h*e. B*tch I know you work ar Subway. Tell me how you go from doing porn to selling $5 foot longs." The Porno N*gga then starts smashing XXX star Juelz Ventura, talking sh*t while he's doing it! "Kat Stacks go do some beastiality animal porn. You don't qualify for real porn." Go check the video out if you're over the age of 18 at BooBooTV! twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump 50 Cent and Chelsea Handler have been hinting that they had something going on between them for a while now. So it shouldn't come as a surpise that a picture of the two of them together in New Orleans on a dinner date has surfaced. A part of me says this may be for publicity, but then again Chelsea wouldn't be a bad catch for a guy in 50's position. She's making lots of money and is just the kind of high profile broad that will keep the media talking about the couple. Before settling in for his date with Chelsea, Fif spit a freestyle for house band Main Line.

Video After The Jump When we watch rappers in videos and at awards shows, sometimes it's easy to forget they are just regular people hustling to put food on their kid's plates. Dallas rapper Dorrough is dealing with some very real life issues right now. His daughter was born with the rare disorder Moebius Syndrome. Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that is present at birth. It primarily affects the 6th and 7th cranial nerves, leaving those with the condition unable to move their faces (they can’t smile, frown, suck, grimace or blink their eyes) and unable to move their eyes laterally. By talking about his daughter's condition, Dorrough hopes to bring awareness to this rare disorder. twitter-5d.gif

T.I. Due Back in Court October 15

T.I. may find out soon whether he will be headed back to prison for a possible probation violation in connection with his arrest last month on drug charges in Los Angeles.According to TMZ, the rapper (born Clifford Harris) will go before Judge Charles Pannell on October 15 to plead for his probation not to be revoked over the arrest. A spokesperson for one of Tip's attorneys, Ed Garland, would not confirm the date, nor would Pannell's office. When T.I. and wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle were arrested in Los Angeles on September 1, police originally charged them with possession of a controlled substance — a substance that was later revealed to be Ecstasy. But according to new documents, that might not have been the only drug in their possession. The charges could send T.I. back to prison.Last month E! Online obtained documents in which T.I.'s probation officer reported that L.A. County Sheriff's deputies also found codeine and marijuana in his possession during the arrest. The documents were filed as part of a summons issued by U.S. District Judge Pannell, requiring T.I. to appear before the court to explain why his probation should not be revoked after the incident. The judge's order lists three possible violations of his probation: possession of Ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon."We are very disappointed in Mr. Harris' recent conduct," United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in an e-mail to MTV News on September 17. "We will make our sentencing recommendation at the revocation hearing."While the drug possession could present a major problem for the rapper — who spent 10 months in prison after his 2007 arrest for illegally attempting to purchase firearms in Atlanta — the terms of his probation in the case included provisions to avoid contact with known felons.According to reports, T.I. was accompanied by a convicted felon when he was pulled over and arrested in Los Angeles. The felon in question was reportedly Cortez "C-Rod" Thomas, the man who allegedly helped facilitate T.I.'s attempted illegal firearm purchase in October 2007, which led to the MC's prison term. Thomas, according to records, allegedly assisted T.I. by transferring a wealth of cash to the rapper's bodyguard. The bodyguard was later set up by federal officials and agreed to participate in a sting against the Atlanta MC.Thomas was never charged in the incident, but he is named, and information regarding his past is included in material related to T.I.'s original case. Thomas' rap sheet includes drug charges and claims of physical intimidation; earlier this year, he was convicted on felony drugs and weapon charges and received 15 years' probation.Source:MTVFollow EntertainmentBo on Twitter

Audio After The Jump Sidney Starr isn't going away anytime soon. Chingy's male lover of the last two years says he wants to do television. So my guess is we will keep hearing from him until he either stops getting interviewed by the media or starts exposing the other rappers he claims he's slept with. Pow-TV caught up with him to get his opinion on Brian Pumper, Kat Stacks and his favorite rapper Lil Wayne. "My all time favorite artist is Lil Wayne, I love Poppin Bottles, that's one of my all time favorites with Birdman and Lil Wayne," Starr said. Uhuh... and what about Brian Pumper's rapping ability. Is he also a favorite? "Oh my God, he sucks, I'm sorry. Brian you suck, you need to stick to your day job. He's making a fool of himself. I definitely think he should hang it up," Sid says. "Brian holla at me on that other side, cuz I'm available." The main person Sid will be competing for air time with is Kat Stacks, he shares his opinion on her as well. "Kat Stacks to me... she's doing her own thing. I don't agree with the way she does what she does. I don't wanna knock her, but I believe she could do things in a better, smarter way. I think she's kind of going cut throat with it and I think that's kind of bad." twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump There's no rest for the weary when you're a top notch artist with an album about to drop. Lloyd Banks took the stage at the Funkmaster Flex Car Show yesterday (October 3) in Providence, Rhode Island right after landing from a nine hour flight from Switzerland. Denna Cruz of Hot 106 caught up with the PLK backstage to chop it up for a few minutes about his album 'HFM2'. "I got in with Kanye in the studio, I did two joints with him," Banks said. "I did one for his G.O.O.D Friday series, Christian Dior Denim Flow. And I did another one for my album. I don't know the line up yet, but it's serious." Banks also talks about his big release date going up against Nicki Minaj and one week after Kanye West's new album drops. "You know it's interesting how this all happened this way. At the end of the day it's good to be in the store period around that time when all the big artists are coming out. I think we all have separate core [fan] bases within the same audience," Banks explained. "I don't think there's anyone that likes me, that doesn't like Kanye. Nicki's a brand new artist, so I definitely tip my hat to what she's doing." 'HFM2' in stores November 23. twitter-5d.gif

NEW YORK (Billboard) – The nominees for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards won't officially be revealed until December 1. But with the eligibility period having closed on September 30, the contenders are now clear, with early favorites and intriguing storylines already emerging. According to Billboard's survey of record executives and industry observers, the 2011 Grammys will likely field its strongest and most competitive collection of record and song of the year nominees in recent memory. While this may lead to a Grammy night filled with memorable, over-the-top performances, it's bittersweet news for the industry, as it mirrors the shift in the marketplace away from albums and toward the less profitable commodity of singles. Many experts project Eminem as this year's potential across-the-board winner, as his album sales remained strong in 2010. Here's a preview of possible nominees in the four main categories: SONG AND RECORD OF THE YEAR Nearly everyone surveyed agreed this was a superb year for singles, especially for pop. There was also consensus that four songs would face off on February 13, 2011, for song and record of the year: Eminem and Rihanna's collaboration, "Love the Way You Lie"; Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now"; Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" and Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." "These are all formidable singles," says Warner Bros. senior vice president of digital Jack Isquith, who hailed them as "meaty, impressive, career-defining records." Other top tracks cited by multiple executives include Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" (eligible for record of the year but not for song), Katy Perry's "California Gurls," Usher's "OMG," Sade's "Soldier of Love," B.o.B's "Airplanes" and Florence & the Machine's "Dog Days of Summer." Last year, Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" won song of the year, and Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" took the record prize. ALBUM OF THE YEAR In the album of the year category, Eminem's "Recovery" is the clear favorite in a subpar field. "This is Eminem's year," says Billy Mann, who co-wrote and produced last year's showstopping Pink hit, "Glitter in the Air." "He brought his best game and then some. The public can feel it, and the industry can feel it." To date, "Recovery" has sold 2.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Los Angeles Times chief pop critic Ann Powers says Eminem's comeback story, as well as the fact that his album was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed, will resonate with Grammy voters. "He's a major figure in pop history," she says, "and he seems to have really grown into himself." Another leading contender is the Carole King/James Taylor album "Live at the Troubadour." While live sets historically have fared poorly with voters (1994's "MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett" is the last in-concert title to win the category), "I would watch out for that record," Glassnote Records head Daniel Glass says. The album has sold 453,000 copies since its May release. Other albums cited include Sade's "Soldier of Love," Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3," Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now," Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs," Usher's "Raymond v. Raymond" and two from recent Grammy winners: Herbie Hancock's "The Imagine Project" and Robert Plant's "Band of Joy." Powers thinks Sade's album is a strong bet. "It's a gold-plated release," she says. "It sold well (1.3 million copies), it was well received critically, and she's a classy artist." Last year, Taylor Swift took home the statue for "Fearless." BEST NEW ARTIST Two breakout acts, B.o.B and Mumford & Sons, were mentioned on multiple occasions as strong contenders for best new artist, but most believe it will be a battle between Drake and Justin Bieber, with Drake taking the award. Emerging stars Nikki Minaj and Bruno Mars are ineligible for nomination this year, because their album release dates fall outside of the eligibility period (September 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010) -- in Mars' case, by one week. Other possible nominees this year include Florence & the Machine, who got a big boost out of their MTV Video Music Awards appearance, and reality TV superstars Susan Boyle and Adam Lambert. Despite the success of Swift and the Zac Brown Band at last year's ceremony, many country observers say this year's crop of new artists is unlikely to garner many nods. Luke Bryan and Chris Young were both mentioned as long shots. Grammy voters didn't suffer from a lack of options when it came to nominees -- according to Recording Academy president Neil Portnow, the academy received almost 20,000 submissions this year, a new record. The nominees will be announced December 1 during the third annual "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! -- Countdown to Music's Biggest Night" concert. The ceremony will air on CBS on February 13. After listening to Travis Porter's song "Make It Rain" for the first time, Gucci told the 107.9 on air personalities he would be interested in signing them. Gucci also talked about what Waka Flocka's work ethic makes him a great artist. "Waka know how to handle business...born hustler," Gucci said. "I didn't tell that boy to rap, boy rapped on his own. Incoming! Bottle hurtling towards Officer Ricky's head. Video After The Jump Officer Ricky Ross brought his show to the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY Friday (October 1), and got treated real rudely. I did some research and found out only 400 tickets were sold for the show at an arena that holds about 3050 people. The ones that did bother coming, were not feeling the former Correctional Officer. MeethaDealerTV caught the footage as one fan tried to rush the stage, shortly afterwards a couple of bottles were thrown at Ross, with one barely missing his head! Ahh man homie... twitter-5d.gif

Video After The Jump I don't know who's crazier, the group that claims being buried alive for 20 minutes will cure you of stress and depression, or the people lining up to try it. This extreme form of therapy is being practiced in Russia by Enlightenment Territory. Willing participants pay $160.00 for the opportunity to literally take a dirt nap. "Once your face is covered with earth, you start tasting it and thinking, 'what the hell am I doing down here?' But once you calm down there's simply no other place like this," says one "death" trainer. As I watched this video, the one thing I didn't see was any proof that the people who run Enlightenment Territory, have any formal training as a doctor, or psychotherapist. Are they equipped to resuscitate a person if their heart stops while underground, breathing only through a garden hose? I didn't see one defibrillator or oxygen tank anywhere around. Maybe all of that is in the fine print of the contract you sign before allowing this to happen, if there is a contract. "Panic conditions can be subconscious, uncontrollable. There are different ways to overcome them," says ET Director Andrey Gorbov. "Working with mental images, rhythm, breathing. There is an array of means for a person to subdue their fear. We teach them that," Gorbov also recommends you not try this at home because it could be dangerous, if the dirt is not distributed properly along the body. The maximum burial time is 40 minutes, beyond that the mind struggles to cope with the lack of function. The maximum burial depth is one foot. This all sounds entirely insane to me and I damn sure wouldn't try it, would you? twitter-5d.gif
