DALLAS (AP) — A man & woman charged in the fatal shootings of 4 people at a Dallas apartment where an infant was found unharmed told police they’d broken into the home to take money, according to court documents.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, police were called after family members reported that the victims had not answered their phones all day.
When officers arrived, they found 2 men & 2 women who were fatally shot inside the apartment. Police identified the victims as 18-year-old Juan Diego Cruz, 20-year-old Jasmine Borjas Santos, 21-year-old Fatima Guadalupe Alvarado Fuentes & 24-year-old Lupe Cruz.
Police said an infant was inside the apartment when the shooting happened, but they were not injured.
Police identified 2 suspects in the case: 18-year-old Artemio Maldonado & 20-year-old Azucena Sanchez.
The affidavit said Sanchez was the ex-girlfriend of victim, Juan Cruz, & that they were in a custody dispute over their child. Relatives of Juan Cruz told police that Sanchez & Maldonado had made multiple threats against him.
Sanchez told police that she and Maldonado broke into the apartment to rob it. Sanchez said she didn’t think anyone was home but once inside, the victims confronted the pair.
Maldonado admitted to shooting all of the victims, according to court documents. Maldonado & Sanchez took a box from a closet they thought contained money, but it turned out to be empty.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
