LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A missing 13-year-old Texas girl was found locked in an outbuilding near a North Carolina home, authorities said Monday.
Investigators with the Dallas police & the FBI say a 34-year-old man enticed the girl to leave her home while communicating with her on social media, then picked her up in his vehicle, Sheriff Richie Simmons said at a news conference in Davidson County, North Carolina.
Video cameras near the girl’s house filmed a vehicle registered to an address in Davidson County & a special agent with the Texas FBI Violent Crimes Task Force contacted the sheriff’s office there on Friday.
“Within 10 minutes our guys had eyes on that residence,” Capt. Stephanie Murphy said. “Everything moved fairly quickly after that.”
Investigators found the vehicle & conducted a traffic stop on the owner as he left the home. During the stop, they figured out that the girl was locked in an outbuilding on the property in Lexington, where she was found. She was taken for medical evaluation & eventually returned to Texas.
The man, identified as 34-year old Jorge Ivan Santos Camacho, was taken into custody & charged with abduction, felonious restraint, human trafficking, statutory rape, statutory sex offense & indecent liberties. He was being held on $1.25 million secure bond.
NEW YORK (AP) — The 31,000-year-old skeleton of a young adult found in a cave in Indonesia that is missing its left foot & part of its left leg reveal the oldest known evidence of an amputation.
Scientists say the amputation was performed when the person was a child & that the “patient” went on to live for years as an amputee. The prehistoric surgery could show that humans were making medical advances much earlier than previously thought.
Researchers were exploring a cave in Borneo, when they came across the grave.
Though much of the skeleton was intact, it was missing its left foot and the lower part of its left leg, he explained. After examining the remains, the researchers concluded the foot bones weren’t missing from the grave, or lost in an accident — they were carefully removed.
The remaining leg bone showed a clean, slanted cut that healed over. There were no signs of infection, which would be expected if the child had gotten its leg bitten off by a creature like a crocodile. And there were also no signs of a crushing fracture, which would have been expected if the leg had snapped off in an accident.
The person appears to have lived for around 6 to 9 more years after losing the limb, eventually dying from unknown causes as a young adult, researchers say.
This shows that the prehistoric foragers knew enough about medicine to perform the surgery without fatal blood loss or infection. Researchers don’t know what kind of tool was used to amputate the limb, or how infection was prevented — but they speculate that a sharp stone tool may have made the cut & point out that some of the rich plant life in the region has medicinal properties.
Also, the community would have had to care for the child for years afterward, since surviving the rugged terrain as an amputee wouldn’t have been easy.
This early surgery “rewrites the history of human medical knowledge & developments."

After an offseason where Kyrie Irving bragged about finally having a teammate that he trusted to take a clutch shot with the game on the line, he and Kevin Durant both had their chance against the Wizards on Sunday night. However, both stars missed potential game-winning shots in the closing seconds and the Nets dropped under .500 for the first time this season. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe share their thoughts on KD and Kyrie.
A monthlong mission in Ohio recently turned up 45 missing children and led to 179 arrests, authorities said.
In an operation dubbed Autumn Hope, the US Marshals Service in Ohio and Virginia tracked the children, including a “high-risk” 15-year-old girl from Cleveland who was linked to suspected human trafficking, authorities said Monday.
Twenty other children were also located as authorities checked on their well-being.
During one of the missing children recoveries, a loaded gun was recovered. A 15-year-old boy had two warrants and is suspected in multiple shootings and a murder, authorities said.
Two other juveniles were found in West Virginia during a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of an adult male who was charged with concealment/removal of a minor child in Jackson County.
Autumn Hope was conducted by the marshals in conjunction with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Central Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and state and local agencies in Ohio.
“My thanks to all personnel who have stepped up for this operation,” said Peter C. Tobin, US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio. “These are the same personnel who hunt down violent fugitives every day. I’m incredibly proud of them and pleased that they were able to apply those same skills to finding missing children. I know Operation Autumn Hope has made a difference in a lot of young lives.”
The US Marshals have conducted similar operations before, including in Ohio.
Last month, they said 35 missing children, between the ages of 13 and 18 from the Cuyahoga County area, were located during Operation Safety Net. Just over 20 percent of the found cases were tied to human trafficking.
That same month, the marshals also announced the arrest of 262 suspects, including 141 gang members, and the recovery of five missing children in Oklahoma.
Thirty-nine children were found in Georgia during Operation Not Forgotten in August and eight missing kids were recovered in Indiana in September as part of Operation Homecoming.
The marshals have found missing children in 75 percent of cases the agency has received — and 72 percent of those cases were recovered within a week, officials said.
Since 2005, the agency has recovered more than 2,000 missing kids.
Report via KHOU -- Blood evidence obtained from the apartment of missing 4-year-old Maleah Davis' estranged stepfather has been linked to the girl, according to Houston police detectives.
Derion Vence, 26, is in custody for evidence tampering. The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitives Task Force arrested Vence around 2:40 p.m. in Sugar Land.
HPD detectives say in addition to blood evidence linked to Maleah being found at the apartment, Vence was also seen carrying a laundry basket from the apartment.
Vence's silver Nissan Altima was recovered in Missouri City on Thursday.
The laundry basket was found in the trunk of the Nissan along with a gas can, according to HPD.
Although Vence reported his Altima was taken in an abduction, surveillance video showed someone in that Nissan Altima dropped Vence off at the Methodist Sugar Land Hospital on May 5, according to police.
Vence, who had been engaged to Maleah's mother, is the last known person to see Maleah and recent video shared by a neighbor with police shows him with bottles of Clorox and a garbage bag before Maleah was reported missing.
Maleah's mother previously threatened to break up with Vence because of infidelity allegations, according to local activist Quanell X, who appeared with the mother in front of reporters Friday.
