HipHopWired Reports “You want me to personally point out some wack niggas?” Jaz-O was featured on Street Disciplez Radio where he was given the opportunity to speak on the status of Hip-Hop and take aim at certain artists that may be deemed as being hot and believe to a certain degree that they are in fact, but are far from it in actuality. “One thing I have to say is a lot of these, and what makes them wack, is the first thing. There's certain lines that you don't cross.” The first rapper on the chopping block would be none other than the new mixtape king Lil Wayne. In regards to his lyrics, rumors have been aired out for years that artists such as Gillie the Kid were responsible for young Carter's rise to fame. Recently there has been speculation that Drake has been writing for Weezy. “Lil Wayne has a gang of writers…Everybody likes him. I would like him too if I listened to mainstream radio all the time because that's all that they play. The people that you talk to and say that he's not wack don't even realize that they've been hypnotized into liking him because when they weren't playing him a lot and had the same backing and money behind, they weren't liking him. They were saying he was garbage. Honestly, I think that he put out better material when they said that he was wack.” Ludacris is another that was put in front of the firing squad, but there were no harsh words for anything that the Southern rapper has said. He did, however, make reference to him allowing Jay to lay a verse for the track “I Do It For Hip Hop” off Theater of the Mind where the rapper took a jab at Jaz. “I don't appreciate Luda for even letting somebody do that. I wouldn't let somebody do that on my song because somebody might take it the wrong way and affiliate me with your statements and make it like I'm with what you're saying.” Of course no interview with Jaz would be complete if he didn't throw the required shot at Jay-Z. “Jay-Z fell off the cliff. I don't know what happened to him” It almost feels as though Jay-Z continues to bring Jaz into relevance as he continues to throw him jabs. With another jab on the intro to The Blueprint III, one can only imagine how much more publicity his former friend will get now. Recently he linked up with The Game in order to create the track “Gangta's Ride” where they unleash a lyrical assault on Hov.

RAP-UP REPORTS Jay-Z isn’t the only one who’s not a fan of Auto-Tune. Actress Kate Beckinsale joked about the vocal-enhancing technique during her appearance on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” on Tuesday. “I can’t understand why all the music sounds like someone’s singing into a saucepan all the time,” she told O’Brien. “T-Pain is singing into a saucepan and Kanye West is always in a pan.” Beckinsale said Auto-Tune gives anyone the ability to sing. “If you don’t sing, you can sound like Nixon. A pan works for everything.”

MTV Reports You might have seen her getting down in music videos, but Mya said she still has a lot to learn before she shimmies and shakes on "Dancing With the Stars" starting September 21. "So far, rehearsals have been really tough," she told MTV News. "So it's kind of like reversing my thinking, 'cause hip-hop is so loose and not structured, and tap is so loose and close to the ground and not structured, so it's so different. I have a lot of work to do in reversing how I think. And I have a lot of partner work to do, so I hope it doesn't hurt me. But I think music and musicality is going to help me stay on the beat." Mya's dance partner, Dmitry Chaplin, is making sure he's supporting her every step of the way. "He's really nice and patient, thankfully. He's a pleasure," she said. "He's very talented." Mya said Chaplin is also helping her get all the basics down before she can do any fancy footwork. "He's doing these drills every day to get me to learn the basics first, 'cause he tells me I can't possibility learn a routine and perform in front of professionals if I don't know the basics," she explained. "So we're really at the beginning point of learning basics and the waltz and the cha-cha. We haven't really moved far beyond that. He's taught me, like, two small combinations." Mya admitted that, aside from learning the dances, she's also scared she might hurt herself in the process. "I had to change my shoes yesterday, 'cause my heels were starting to hurt — and keep in mind that everything was in heels," she said. "I had a foot fracture last year, and I've had injuries in the past. That's what my worst fear is. To get injured ... is something I'm nervous about." She might be nervous, but she's also excited to get to know the other celebrities dancing this season — one of whom she was surprised to learn would be on the show. "I didn't think it was in her personality to do something like this, but it's great that she is," she said of rock progeny Kelly Osbourne. "And I actually met her last night, and she's very cute and funny, so she's very sweet. I was just surprised, 'cause she's more of a rebel to me." Mya can take comfort in knowing that she has someone to rely on if she should need some advice somewhere along the way: her "Lady Marmalade" co-star Lil' Kim, who competed last season. "She was so good!" she said about Kim. "I haven't spoken to her [for advice], but she did say she was going to come out and support me."

Kare11.com Reports A Detroit-area mother was arraigned on Wednesday after she was accused of driving her 9-year-old son to school while drunk. Dena Gay Ellington, 45, of Birmingham, was arrested Tuesday morning in Ferndale. Police said she stopped to ask a police officer at Taft Education Center how to get to her son's school, Coolidge Elementary. The officer said he smelled alcohol on her and gave her a Breathalyzer test. The woman blew a .29 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit. "Very unusual circumstances, that time of the morning, a woman being that drunk," said Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson. "The fact that she approached him after drinking, and asking him how to drive further, is probably an indication that she wasn't thinking clearly." The officer drove the woman to the Ferndale Police Department and another officer drove the boy to school. Family members picked up the boy from school later that day. "Had she found the grade school she was looking for, there would have been kids running all over and all sorts of bad things could have happened," Wilson said. Ellington was released on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, she could be sentenced to time in prison. The magistrate has ordered her to undergo daily Breathalyzer tests. Ellington has no criminal history.

HipHopWired Reports There may be problems in the making for Amalgam Entertainment, a business located in Massachusetts, as a cease and desist letter has been issued over the use of their name. The letter has been issued out by SANDY LAL & ASSOCIATES, P.C. which is located in New York. Representing Catherine Fandino from Amalgam Entertainment of New York, New York, the firm has stated that their client uses its brand in connection with audio recordings, music production and other related goods and services. If anyone is lost, simply stated, there are two separate companies using the same title. The issue that has arisen is the fact that the company located in Massachusetts (Joe Budden, Saigon, Slaughterhouse) has been distributing music under the same moniker, but the rights to the name belong to the company based in New York as they have been using Amalgam since 2003. According to the order, by selling goods that are identical to the company stationed in New York, the Massachusetts based business is guilty of infringement and unfair competition under state law and in violation of the Lanham Act. 15. To further investigate the ongoing situation, HipHopWired has reached out to both companies in order to obtain further clarity on the ongoing problem. Speaking with the Creative Director of the Massachusetts based brand, no further comment has been available and they are currently in the process of contacting Sandy LAL & Associates in regards to the claim and will provide their insight after speaking with their legal representatives. Their company was established in 2005. In relation to the New York based company, HipHopWired has continued to try and speak with a representative from the firm, but have come up cold as phone calls have yet to be returned. The cease and desist letter has asked to hear from a representative of the company no later than September, 7. For all that have been keeping up with the digital label known as Amalgam Digital (Massachusetts), it has recently been on the rise as a label for independent and underground artists as an outlet to release their music. Partnering with E1 Entertainment, which has been running things as it relates to the independent music side, the two labels may have found a way for artists to finally cash in on the residuals of their work and release the material that they feel should be showcased on their albums instead of being controlled by record executives. Read a copy of the cease and desist letter below here

HipHopWired Reports Although people have continued to place their doubt on the rapper that made everyone “Crank Dat,” Soulja Boy continues to remain relevant in Hip-Hop. Already two albums in, he has begun preparation for his third album, "The DeAndre Way". Soulja must be aiming for the fences this time around as he has voiced that he is looking to have heavy hitters such as Eminem and Jay-Z for his third official release. Lucky enough for the rapper, Eminem happens to be on the same label with him, along with 50 Cent, so it could be possible although that is farfetched. Concrete features have already begun to surface as the project will see Lil Wayne in attendance as well as Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. Snoop recently was alongside the rapper where he basically apologized to the young up-and-comer for initially hating on his art. He added that people like him were unable to realize that at the end of the day, Soulja Boy is just trying to create his own lane and make it in the game. Being a producer as well as a rapper, Soulja Boy has stated that he has partnered up with West for production on the upcoming release. In an interview with Radio Planet TV, the artist elaborates on his joint venture with West. “I really haven't produced since my second album, but I'm looking forward to doing a 50/50 split beat with Kanye West. I think that'll be hot because he's a great lyricist, but an awesome producer as well. I feel like I'm an awesome producer too, and both of us in the studio together at the same time can come out with a smash." Since emerging in 2007, the young rapper/entertainer has been a victim of constant criticism whether it's from fans or artists feeling that he was killing the genre and calling him a one-hit wonder. It is now 2009 and the 19-year-old is still standing and continuing to remain dominant in the realm of music. He may not be the best rapper out, but he has definitely created his own lane which has been effective to the point where rappers are trying to ride right behind him. Whether you respect it or reject it, everyone must accept his presence.

HipHopWired Reports Still fresh off the release of the album, Loso's Way, Brooklyn bred rapper Fabolous is already back in the studio to bring a sequel to his DJ Drama Mixtape, There Is No Competition, which was released back in February. As with the album having a movie accompany it, the mixtape will do double time as it will be a double disc mixtape. He has also stretched his arms out to his upbringing with Desert Storm as he will also be bringing DJ Clue along for the ride for the upcoming release. Drama will hold everything down on the first disc and Clue will take charge of the second disc. Fabolous first got his major push through his extensive work with DJ Clue and even started the idea of embodying Carlito's Way when he released the mixtape Loso's Way: Rise To Power back in 2006 which made reference to the prequel to Carlito's Way which starred Jay Hernandez and Sean “Diddy” Combs. News broke through a Twitter from Fabolous: "Also started workin on the There Is No Competition 2.. Double disc mixtape. One side @djdrama, One side @therealdjclue.. Niceeeeee!!!" As of now, there is no release date, but if it is anything like the first dose that was served up, the wait will be worth it. Fab also started his five-city Classic Remix Concert Series yesterday with a show in New York City. The event was planned through help from Hot 97, Cornerstone and Footlocker. This has all come as a part of the deal the rapper made with Reebok. The series will also see him performing throwback and new material in New Orleans, Miami, Houston and ending in Atlanta, Georgia on September 3.

HipHopWired Reports The United States Supreme Court has granted Troy Davis' request to postpone his execution in yet another attempt to clear his name and prove his innocence. Davis is an inmate that was sentenced to death after the 1989 murder of a Savannah, GA police officer. Since his incarceration, Davis has gained international support behind his claims of innocence. Justice John Paul Stevens ordered a federal judge to "receive testimony and make findings of fact as to whether evidence that could not have been obtained at trial clearly establishes petitioner's innocence." Among the supporters of the motion were Justices Ruth Bader and Stephen Breyer. The newest member of the high court Sonia Sotomayor, however, did not participate in the petition. "Brother" Clarence Thomas did however and was one of two judges that dissented their reasons for not taking another look at the case and going ahead and killing Davis. In the last year or so, Davis' case has been quite turbulent, even being granted a stay of execution just two hours before he was to be put to death. Despite the execution delay, Davis will continue to sit on death row, reports CNN. Davis insists that he is innocent of the charges brought upon him in the murder of Officer Mark MacPhail. Witnesses claimed they saw Davis, then 19, and two other men harassing a homeless man in a Burger King parking lot when officer MacPhail arrived to the help the man. Witnesses identified Davis as the shooter claiming he shot MacPhail twice and fled on foot. Since the 1991 conviction, however, seven of the nine witnesses have recanted their testimonies. In addition to the witnesses reneging, no physical evidence was ever presented to the trial jury or court. In recent years and months, world leaders and celebrities, including former president Jimmy Carter and Harry Belafonte have extended their support and have asked that Davis be granted a new trial. Hip-Hop artist Killer Mike has been vocal about the execution and has appeared at rallies for Davis. Killer Mike, whose father was a police officer stated, “I don't just have a fuck the police mentality. It really is a question with me if true justice isn't being served. If it's really a question that a man could be innocent or not guilty of killing that police officer, I can't stand there silent and see Black blood just bleed. I can't allow myself to do that and that's coming from the son of a police officer. So I sympathize with a family that lost a father, a brother and husband and with a police department that lost a officer. I sympathize but if there's even a question that this man could be innocent, I don't see how the State of Georgia or The Supreme Court of these United States can allow more Black blood to run. I can't support that in no way, not state sponsored murder.” Boyce Watkins also commented on the case and how it's not fair to not consider all the evidence but still try to condemn a man to die. “Well it certainly blows a hole in the idea of American justice if this man does not get some type of objective review of that situation. It's completely non physical to even have all this evidence out here and to ignore it. Why do you stay with a decision when you have strong reason to believe that the decision is fraud? At the very least, they should go back and do the investigation to ensure that you're executing the right man so I do think that if he is executed and nobody else does a thorough review of what happened, then justice was not served. And justice not being served does not mean that he's innocent, justice not being served means that he did not have a fair hearing by the American public by the judicial system and again it's also reflective of a broader problem in our system and we all know the statistics for Black men in terms of incarceration and execution. We know that the prison system is modern day slavery. So as Black people I think we should all be offended by Troy Davis's execution and also we must remember that there are many, many cases of individuals who are not as well known as Troy Davis who are also not having justice served. So the whole justice system really needs an overhaul and I don't know how that's going to get done but that needs to happen.” Watch below as Killer Mike goes into detail about the Troy Davis case:
