HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — A man who barricaded himself in a North Carolina house with a woman and two children shot and wounded three police officers who tried to enter the home during the hourslong standoff, authorities said Friday. The woman was found dead and the suspect was later killed by police.
The children were uninjured, and the officers’ injuries were not life-threatening, said High Point Police Chief Travis Stroud.
The approximately 11-hour standoff ended when Josue Drumond-Cruz fired at officers who were assisting from the nearby Greensboro Police Department, and they returned fire, killing him, Stroud said. The woman’s identity and cause of death weren’t immediately released. The chief said he believes that she and Drumond-Cruz were in a relationship.
The standoff began after 11 p.m. Thursday when officers on patrol responded to a call about shots being fired. They found Drumond-Cruz in the yard and tried to communicate with him but he was uncooperative. He then went inside and came back out brandishing a rifle that appeared similar to an AR-15, Stroud said.
A tactical team and negotiators arrived, and investigators determined the woman and children were inside. About four hours into the standoff, and with no contact from the suspect, officers tried to enter the home and Drumond-Cruz opened fire on them, striking three officers, Stroud said.
Stroud said Drumond-Cruz also fired shots from the house periodically throughout the standoff.
“We had a lot of gunfire coming from inside the house throughout the morning,” he said.
About 10:15 a.m., the suspect shot at tactical officers who were assisting from the nearby Greensboro Police Department, and they returned fire, killing him, Stroud said.
Two officers were treated and released for wounds to the hand and shoulder, respectively. A third officer underwent surgery for a leg wound. All three were doing well and expected to recover, Stroud said.

T.I. and Tiny's reality show is pressing pause as the couple faces allegations of sexual abuse, even though they've vehemently denied the claims.
Production on "T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle" came to a grinding halt Friday as MTV put things on ice. Network honchos said, "We are aware of the allegations, and while they are not connected to our show, we have reached out to T.I. and Tameka Harris, as well as local and state officials."
Last month several women posted allegations on social media -- claiming the couple had drugged or coerced them into having sexual encounters. As far as we know, none of the accusers have reported claims to law enforcement, or filed lawsuits.
Still, MTV says, "Given the serious nature of the allegations, we have decided to suspend production in order to gather more information."
T.I. has strongly denied the allegations, and threatened legal action against at least one accuser.
The show had been shooting in Atlanta since December, but with this shutdown -- first reported by Deadline -- the fate of the 4th season is up in the air.

Phil Collins' ex cleaned up good at an auction for all of her jewelry & clothing ... including a $22k score for the singer's gold records & awards that had a severely low opening bid.
The folks over at Kodner Galleries in Florida auctioned off Orianne Cevey's collection of jewelry & clothing on Wednesday for a whopping $2,165,592. That number also included $22k for multiple gold LPs and "Assorted Phil Collins Awards."
We're told the first four auction lots -- the awards and gold records -- drew an extraordinary level of interest ... with more than 350 phone & online bids recorded. The final bidding price for those items -- which included a gold record of Robert Plant’s "The Principle of Moments" -- was a cool $6,325. Remember ... the opening bid was just one hundred bucks.
Because we know you're curious ... her fine jewelry collection netted $1,694,000. Five of her watches -- including 3 Rolex's & 2 Patek Philippe -- hauled in $235,572. And, some of her designer purses & clothing brought home $61,435. What's she gonna do with all the money? We're told a portion of the sales will be donated to Orianne's charity, Never Give Up Foundation.
For those who missed out on this auction ... ya need not worry. Kodner is holding a second auction featuring similar items from Orianne next month.

A Louisiana mom was shot dead by hitmen whom her accused-rapist brother had hired to kill her daughter — pretending to be the target to save her child’s life, officials said.
Brittany Cormier, 34, was found shot to death in her Montegut home on Jan. 13 along with a 37-year-old neighbor, Hope Nettleton, who had been visiting her at the time, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Timothy Soignet said.
Investigators quickly focused on Cormier’s brother Beaux Cormier, 35, a convicted sex offender accused of raping his niece, the sheriff said.
They have accused him of hiring two friends to kill the girl — even helping carry out surveillance as he joined them on the first planned mission, which was aborted.
When the killers struck on Jan. 13, Brittany Cormier pretended to be their target — as her daughter and stepdaughter hid in a closet, the sheriff told the Advocate.
“Brittany Cormier was murdered as a result of telling the shooter she was in fact the rape victim, likely saving the life of the actual rape victim,” Soignet said in a release.
Nettleton was shot dead while trying to fight off the gunmen, he said.
Samantha LeMaire, a friend who said Cormier was “like a sister” to her, told the Advocate that the mom “would do anything for her kids.”
“I like to think she locked them in the closet to protect them,” she said of the daughter and stepdaughter. The girls’ names and ages were not disclosed.
Soignet told the Advocate that Cormier quickly became a suspect because there was a “pretty solid rape case” against him “which provided motive.”
Fellow suspects Andrew Eskine, 25, and Dalvin Wilson, 22, later confessed to being hired for the hit, the report said. All three are being held on $2 million bond on two counts of first-degree murder.
“The death penalty is definitely on the table,” District Attorney Joe Waitz Jr. said.
Cormier — already a convicted sex offender — still also faces third-degree rape for the alleged attack on his niece, the sheriff said.

A California man was busted after a livestream on social media showed him with a gun & two women lying motionless on the floor.
Raymond Michael Weber, 29, of Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder following a standoff Saturday at an apartment complex in Vacaville.
Police said they went to the apartment complex after getting a call from a woman about the livestream.
“The video showed the man carrying a handgun & two women lying on the floor — not moving,” the Vacaville Police Department said.
Officers discovered a man had barricaded himself in the apartment, & a SWAT team & negotiators were called to the scene.
The building was evacuated & officers got inside the apartment with “distraction devices & chemical agents,” officials said.
Police said there was a brief struggle & a Taser was used before the man was taken into custody.
“Officers additionally found two women deceased inside of the apartment,” the department said.
The women found dead inside the apartment were aged 26 and 15. Their cause of death has not yet been released, but one of two women has been identified by her mother as Weber’s fiancee, 26-year-old Savannah Rae Theberge.
Weber is the older brother of local rapper Marcus Weber, who goes by “Uzzy Marcus.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A white Ohio police officer was indicted Wednesday on murder charges in the December shooting death of 47-year-old Andre Hill.
Coy has been arrested and charged with one count of murder, one count of felonious assault and two counts of dereliction of duty.
Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on Wednesday following an investigation by the Ohio Attorney General’s office.
Coy and another officer responded to a neighbor’s nonemergency call after 1 a.m. on Dec. 22 about a car in front of his house in the city’s northwest side that had been running, then shut off, then turned back on, according to a copy of the call released in December.
Police bodycam footage showed Hill emerging from a garage and holding up a cellphone in his left hand seconds before he was fatally shot by Coy. There is no audio because the officer hadn’t activated the body camera; an automatic “look back” feature captured the shooting without audio.
Hill was on the garage floor for several minutes without an officer on the scene coming to his aid.

(CNN) Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager accused of fatally shooting two men and wounding a third during the Jacob Blake protests in August, is under further scrutiny by authorities that could lead to his return to jail.
Wisconsin prosecutors Wednesday asked to issue an arrest warrant for Rittenhouse, stating he violated his bail agreement by not disclosing his address after his release. Rittenhouse's legal team has countered with the need to keep his location secret due to claims of death threats against him.
Much attention has been directed at Rittenhouse's case proceedings, particularly as a cause célèbre among right-wing circles. His supporters welcomed the news on November 20 that he left jail after an apparent fundraising effort met the $2 million required.
Now, where he awaits trial is in question.
Rittenhouse faces allegations in Kenosha, Wisconsin, relating to the shooting deaths of Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz. Rittenhouse's attorneys have maintained that he acted in self-defense.
Rittenhouse left the scene shortly after the August 25 shootings and returned home to Antioch, Illinois, where he was arrested the following day.
On October 30, he was extradited from Illinois to Wisconsin. The following week, his bond was set at $2 million due to the court considering him a "flight risk," according to Kenosha County Commissioner Loren Keating.
Rittenhouse was released November 20 after the $2 million bail was posted by Lin Wood, chairman and CEO of #FightBack, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.
