CNN Reports
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey to air Wednesday, Mackenzie Phillips claims that she was "raped" by her father while still a teenager.
"I woke up that night from a blackout and found myself having sex with my own father," Phillips read aloud from her book, "High on Arrival," during the hour-long interview with Winfrey.
"I came out of that blackout and realized what was happening. ... I slid right back into it and woke up the next morning in my own hotel room and not with him," she continued to read. "Your father is supposed to protect you, not [expletive] you."
John Phillips died in 2001.
Phillips, now 49, said she was 17 or 18 the first time she can remember having sex with her father. Watch Phillips talk about her struggles »
When she confronted him and told him they needed to talk about how he raped her, Phillips said, he responded with confusion.
" 'Raped you? Don't you mean when we made love?' " she told Winfrey. "I thought, wow, I'm really on my own here."
Her intimate relationship with her father, the famed Los Angeles musician and co-founder of the Mamas & Papas, didn't end there, she told Winfrey.
"Over time, in 1980, I'm on the road with my Dad in the New Mamas and Papas, and I begin waking up after drug-fueled events with my pants around my ankles and my father sleeping beside me," Phillips recalled. "It didn't happen every day, it didn't happen every week, but it certainly happened many times. If you're me, you box it away. It's one of those things where you tell yourself don't look. There's a video reel playing in my head, and I've spent 30 years trying not to look."
By the time Phillips turned 29, it had become a consensual relationship, she said, although she was very much aware that it was wrong and shouldn't have been happening. "It was the Stockholm syndrome where you begin to love your captor. I felt love for my father, but the moment he tried to make it a romance, I was shot into the present time."
This epiphany came after the pair toured with the New Mamas and Papas in Hawaii, where Phillips had adjoining rooms with her father. She said she rarely went to her own room during that trip, and one night she found herself in bed next to her father in a drug-induced stupor.
"Dad said, 'We could just run away to Fiji, and we could take [his children] Bijou and Tamerlane and raise them as our own,' " Phillips recounted to Winfrey. "He was delusional, talking about living with me as man and wife, and raising my siblings, his children, as our children. The moment he tried to make it romantic, I thought, we're going to hell for this."
But that wasn't the moment that caused Phillips to end it completely. It wasn't until the mother of one found herself pregnant again and didn't know whether the father of the baby was her then-husband, Shane Fontayne, or her own father.
"I was in a relationship with my son's father as well; he knew nothing," she said. "He's one of the dearest men and one of the best parents to our son. He was always there for me. I came up pregnant, and I had an abortion. And I never let [John Phillips] touch me again."
Phillips' story isn't without its detractors: Her former stepmother, Genevieve Waite, released a statement to the "Oprah Winfrey Show" denouncing Phillips' account.
"I am stunned by Mackenzie's terrible allegations about her father," Waite wrote. "I would often complain about her overly familiar attitudes towards him, and he said it was just her way. John was a good man. ... He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, to have sexual relations with his own child."
Phillips acknowledged that her family members aren't happy about her decision to release the secret she said she's held for more than 30 years, but during her interview with Winfrey, she did have one sister in her corner: her on-screen sibling Valerie Bertinelli.
Bertinelli played Phillips' younger sister on the 1975-84 sitcom "One Day at a Time." Bertinelli said she has watched Phillips struggle with drugs and alcohol for years but never knew the reality of what Phillips was going through.
Neither of them had seen each other since Phillips was arrested in Los Angeles International Airport in 2008 for drug possession; she was en route to meet Bertinelli and the rest of the cast for a "One Day at a Time" reunion on "The Rachael Ray Show."
"I've always had a lot of regrets," Bertinelli said, "because I experimented right along with Mack. I did coke, and I did it with her, and no one ever knew about it. And I've had guilt that this incredibly sweet, big-hearted woman [was blamed] for things [that] in my mind weren't really her fault."
Phillips also talked with Winfrey about her drug use. She said her exposure to drugs began in her childhood in the Bel Air, California, home owned by her father.
"The first time I did cocaine I was 11," she said. "I was staying with my father and his wife at the time and my brother, and my father never made any bones about doing drugs in front of his children or later on sharing drugs with us. He taught me to roll joints when I was 10."
While she was acting alongside Bertinelli on "One Day at a Time," she continued to dabble in drugs and alcohol, and her drug use began to escalate along with her stardom.
She said that her father shot her up for the first time in her teens and that he was the one to give her step-by-step instructions on how to shoot cocaine. A few years later, just after she turned 18, Phillips was arrested when she was found collapsed on quaaludes on an L.A. street.
Phillips said her father's response was, "Congratulations! Now you're a real Phillips. Now you know that even though they caught you, the rules don't apply."
After watching Phillips tell her story to Winfrey, Bertinelli told Phillips she regretted not being there for her on-again, off-again friend.
"I was so wrapped up in the own drama of my life, because I dealt with substance abuse. I was saving myself, and that's not always right. I wasn't there for my sister," she said.
After everything that Phillips recalled happened to her at the hands of her father, she said, she doesn't hate him.
"I have to say that I loved my father, and I still do. I've been trying to come to terms with this very difficult past," Phillips told Winfrey.
She continued, "I can't be the only one this has happened to. Someone needs to put a face on not only nonconsensual incest, but consensual incest, and I know that I can't be the only one who's lived through this. So in finding this redemption, maybe I'm helping someone else."

CBS News Reports
NEW YORK (CBS) Pinheads! That's what some people are thinking after a security camera caught undercover drug investigators from central Florida playing Wii bowling during a nine-hour drug raid.
In March, police stormed the Lakeland home of convicted drug dealer Michael Difalco with guns drawn and flashlights at the ready. But searching for drugs is hard work and what the crack squad of officers thought they really needed was an invigorating game of bowling.
Fortunately Difalco had a Nintendo Wii and a big screen TV at the ready!
Strike!
Turns out Difalco also put up a wireless camera that he connected to his computer, which caught all the "investigative" hijinks.
As some of the more diligent officers searched the residence for illegal drugs and other illicit items, a couple of Florida's finest began bowling frame after frame - all within 20 minutes of entering the suspect's house.
In the video, one female detective can be seen going through evidence one moment and throwing strikes and gutter balls the next. She even jumped up and down when she threw a double!
And she is not the only one.
The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, which conducted the raid, says its mission is to reduce drug trafficking in the most critical areas of the country, thereby reducing its impact in other areas. It is not clear how video games became involved in the mission.
Law enforcement officials from Polk County Sheriff's Office and police departments from Auburndale, Lakeland and Winter Haven participated in the raid.
"Certainly this was a case of bad judgment," Auburndale Police Chief Nolan McLeod said to The Tampa Tribune. "We will handle it appropriately."
"If there is any indication that someone did something inappropriately, we will do something about it," Winter Haven police Sgt. Brad Coleman said to the paper.
But will the virtual bowling tournament affect the case against Difalco?
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd doesn’t think so. "That absolutely is not true; that doesn't invalidate the search at all," Judd told the Tribune.
Police say they found marijuana, meth, weapons, drug paraphernalia and over $30,000 of stolen property during the March raid. Difalco's arrest record dates back to at least 1995 and he has already spent three years in prison.
It doesn’t look like he is going anywhere fast.
What do you think? Does the bowling tourney invalidate the case against Difalco? Or was it all in good fun?

HipHopWired Reports
Even as the fire has burned out and the smoke has settled, there still seems to be a lingering taste in the mouths of some as it relates to Kanye West's incident.
Some have looked at the situation and condemned West as an overall menace and painted a picture of an evil baby that draws out his horns whenever he doesn't get his way. Others, however, feel as though the situation has come to an unnecessary boil and have simply stated that it could have been much worse than it actually was.
Amidst the troubles that were brewing for West after his dramatic tantrum during the VMA's, late night television show host Jay Leno was able to do what few has done, leave West speechless. In regards to his actions, Leno questioned how the rapper's mother would react to her son's outburst. Still dealing with the passing of his mother, Donda West, moments of silence followed as the rapper almost seemed to be brought to tears by the sheer thought.
“And Jay Leno, with your banana boat face having ass, you need to apologize to Kanye West for having him with his mother [would say], what she would think, she would think she'd need to smack your fucking banana face-hacing ass face off trying to be slick.”
The friendship of West and Def has its history and is most evident in the music. Starting back with West's debut album, College Dropout, the two have collaborated on tracks like “Two Words”, “Drunk and Hot Girls” and “Good Night”.
Currently, the rapper has collaborated with Dame Dash in producing a documentary. Although the upcoming flick is without title, the focus will be on an all-Black punk band named Death from Detroit in the 1970s. Production has already commenced and it will be directed by Coodie and Chike, who are known for working on videos for Kanye West, “Through the Wire” and Mos Def, “Ghetto Rock”.
Loyalty is something that is hard to come by, but once it happens friends will ride with each other no matter what the case. In this particular case, attacking West has brought about the fury of Def and although he may come off as quiet, don't let the movie roles ever get it twisted. Behind all the flashing lights, he is still from Brooklyn.

NEW YORK (AP) - Herschel Walker is starting a new career in mixed martial arts.
The 47-year-old former NFL running back said Monday that he has signed a multi-fight contract with promoter Strikeforce. Walker will begin a 12-week training camp next month in San Jose, Calif., with the American Kickboxing Academy.
The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner already holds a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
"I've been training for several years," Walker said in a statement. "I would play college football games on Saturday and then compete in martial arts tournaments on Sunday after church I'm now looking forward to opening up another chapter in my life and to competing in MMA."
In 12 NFL seasons — playing for the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles and Giants — he made the Pro Bowl twice.
Walker has already had athletic success outside of football, making the two-man bobsled team at 1992 Winter Olympics. He finished seventh.
"I flew to L.A. last month to watch Herschel train and was surprised to see his advanced wrestling and striking abilities," Strikeforce founder and CEO Scott Coker said in a statement. "He's got work ahead of him, but he's committed to training at one of the most notable gyms in the sport of MMA so it will be very interesting to watch him progress."Read more…
