Video After The Jump

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — At least 49 people were killed in mass shootings at two mosques full of worshippers attending Friday prayers in an attack broadcast in horrifying, live video by an immigrant-hating white nationalist wielding at least two rifles.

One man was arrested and charged with murder, and two other armed suspects were taken into custody while police tried to determine what role they played.

“It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, noting that many of the victims could be migrants or refugees.

She pronounced it “one of New Zealand’s darkest days.”

The attack shocked people across the nation of 5 million people, a country that has relatively loose gun laws but is so peaceful even police officers rarely carry firearms.

The gunman behind at least one of the mosque shootings left a 74-page manifesto that he posted on social media under the name Brenton Tarrant, identifying himself as a 28-year-old Australian and white nationalist who was out to avenge attacks in Europe perpetrated by Muslims.

Using what may have been a helmet camera, he livestreamed to the world in graphic detail his assault on worshippers at Christchurch’s Al Noor Mosque, where at least 41 people were killed. An attack on a second mosque in the city not long after killed several more.

Police did not identify those taken into custody and gave no details except to say that none of them had been on any watch list. They did not immediately say whether the same person was responsible for both shootings.

At least 48 people, some in critical condition, were being treated at Christchurch Hospital for gunshot wounds, authorities said.

While there was no reason to believe there were any more suspects, the prime minister said the national threat level was raised from low to high. Police warned Muslims against going to a mosque anywhere in New Zealand. And Air New Zealand canceled several flights in and out of Christchurch, saying it couldn’t properly screen customers and baggage.

Police said the investigation extended 360 kilometers (240 miles) to the south, where homes in Dunedin were evacuated around a “location of interest.” They gave no details.

Ardern alluded to anti-immigrant sentiment as the possible motive, saying that immigrants and refugees “have chosen to make New Zealand their home, and it is their home. They are us.”

As for the suspects, the prime minister said, “these are people who I would describe as having extremist views that have absolutely no place in New Zealand.”

Witness Len Peneha said he saw a man dressed in black enter the Al Noor mosque and then heard dozens of shots, followed by people running out in terror.

Peneha, who lives next door, said the gunman ran out of the mosque, dropped what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon in his driveway and fled. He said he then went into the mosque to try to help the victims.

“I saw dead people everywhere. There were three in the hallway, at the door leading into the mosque, and people inside the mosque,” he said. “I don’t understand how anyone could do this to these people, to anyone. It’s ridiculous.”

He added: “I’ve lived next door to this mosque for about five years and the people are great, they’re very friendly. I just don’t understand it.”

He said the gunman was wearing a helmet with some kind of device on top, giving him a military-type appearance.

In the video that was apparently livestreamed, the gunman spends more than two minutes inside the mosque spraying terrified worshippers with bullets again and again, sometimes firing at people he has already cut down.

He then walks outside, where he shoots at people on the sidewalk. Children’s screams can be heard in the distance as he returns to his car to get another rifle. The gunman then walks back into the mosque, where there are at least two dozen people lying on the ground.

After going back outside and shooting a woman there, he gets back in his car, where the song “Fire” by the English rock band The Crazy World of Arthur Brown can be heard blasting. The singer bellows, “I am the god of hellfire!” and the gunman drives away.

The second attack took place at the Linwood mosque about 5 kilometers (3 miles) away.

Mark Nichols told the New Zealand Herald that he heard about five gunshots and that a prayer-goer returned fire with a rifle or shotgun. Nichols said he saw two wounded people being carried out on stretchers past his automotive shop.

The man who claimed responsibility for the Al Noor shooting said he was not a member of any organization, acted alone and chose New Zealand to show that even the most remote parts of the world were not free of “mass immigration.”

New Zealand is generally considered a welcoming country for migrants and refugees.

Last year, the prime minister announced the country would boost its annual refugee quota from 1,000 to 1,500 starting in 2020. Ardern, whose party campaigned on a promise to take in more refugees, called the increase “the right thing to do.”

Christchurch is home to nearly 400,000 people and is sometimes called the Garden City. It has been rebuilding since an earthquake in 2011 killed 185 people and destroyed many downtown buildings.

Before Friday’s attack, New Zealand’s deadliest shooting in modern history took place in the small town of Aramoana in 1990, when a gunman killed 13 people following a dispute with a neighbor.

Report via TMZ -- The crew believed to be responsible for attacking and robbing YBN Almighty Jay and sending him to the hospital are in federal custody, but strangely ... it has nothing to do with the rapper.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... cops have identified a street gang that includes Zae Numbafive as persons of interest in last weekend's assault on Jay. We're told the crew goes by the name "Jack Boyz."

Zae and 3 other Jack Boyz members were arrested Wednesday in the Bronx as part of an unrelated federal investigation ... which is even crazier. The men are facing a charge of attempted murder in the aid of racketeering -- along with firearm charges -- in connection with the shooting of an off-duty NYPD officer. Another member remains at large.

If convicted, they face up to life in prison.

Our sources say the crew was questioned by investigators after their arrest about assaulting Jay as well, and 2 members admitted to being at the scene ... but didn't fess up to any criminal activity.

We're told one of the Boyz also claimed to have past issues with Jay but said they worked it out ... but the rapper denied even knowing the crew.

Our sources say Jay told cops he's willing to cooperate with the investigation now, but doubts he can ID his attackers because there were so many of them. He claims he was robbed of his wallet, $16k in cash, a $20k chain and his shoes in the attack.

As we reported ... J Prince weighed in on the situation by calling out Zae and his crew and putting out an APB to his "mob ties" to nab them. Zae responded by posting a music vid that apparently flaunted Jay's stolen bling.

So far, no charges have been made in Jay's robbery/assault ... the investigation's ongoing.

(WPBF) -- A Florida man showed up to a junior high school with a loaded AK-47 pistol after his son video-called him to say he was "slammed" by a teacher, according to police.

Christopher Freeman, 27, showed up to school visibly upset on Monday because of the alleged incident. He was arrested at Bear Lakes Middle School and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, aggravated assault and disruption of a school function, WPTV reports.

The school's assistant principal told police Freeman told him in an ambiguous threat during a call that "you're all dead" in relation to the incident with his son.

A school resource officer said he located Freeman in front of the school's main office with a gun sticking out of the front of his pants.

"I want to see the guy who slammed my son. I've got something for him," Freeman said, according to an arrest report.

Officers put the school on lockdown and searched Freeman – finding a loaded AK-47 Mini Draco pistol, according to police.

According to the arrest report, Freeman said he received a FaceTime call from his son at 3 p.m. He told police his son was crying, saying a teacher had slammed him.

Freeman, whose bond was set at $75,000, told police he was upset and came to the school, but didn't realize he was carrying the weapon because he carries it all the time for protection. Freeman told police he didn't intend to harm anyone.

In this clip, Lisa Van Allen offers more details in regards to even more archived R. Kelly sex tapes, where she recalls stealing one of the tapes that she performed in with another underage girl. She remembers her motivation stemmed from Kelly's manager threatening her life, and that the tape she stole was one of many tapes of a larger collection. From there, Van Allen says Kelly paid $250K to get the tape back from her, yet she emphasizes that he offered to pay the money, therefore the transaction wasn't a result of extortion.

(KTLA) -- A man identified by the victim's family members as the boyfriend of a woman whose slain 9-year-old daughter was found partially stuffed in a duffel bag in Hacienda Heights has been charged with murder, authorities announced Tuesday.

Emiel Hunt, 38, appeared briefly in court on Tuesday morning but did not enter a plea. His arraignment has been postponed until April 16.

Hunt was arrested on Saturday after being found sleeping in his vehicle, which was parked near the San Diego International Airport, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

He was booked at the Norwalk Sheriff's Station later that day, inmate records show. His bail was set at $2 million.

Hunt is accused of killing Trinity Loves Jones on or about March 1, roughly four days before her body was discovered, according to a news release from the L.A. County District Attorney's Office.

Family members of the young victim told KTLA on Monday that Hunt is the boyfriend of Trinity's mother, Taquesta Graham.

They said that Graham was also detained as a "person of interest" in the case and was being held on $2 million bail. It was unclear whether she was in custody, however, as a search of L.A. County inmate records on Tuesday morning did not show anyone matching her name.

Graham is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in 2009 of enticing a minor female for prostitution, according to the Megan's Law website. She was last released in 2016 and reported to be living in Santa Fe Springs.

Hunt, meanwhile, has a prior child abuse conviction in San Diego County from 2005, according to the criminal complaint.

He faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison if convicted on the murder charge.

Authorities just confirmed his arrest on Tuesday, exactly one week after Trinity's body was found by L.A. County maintenance workers at the bottom of an embankment.

One of the workers, who did not want to be identified, told KTLA in a brief but emotional interview on Monday that they were trimming trees in the area when they noticed a duffel bag.

"We seen the little girl's head, but at that point, we thought it was a little boy because you couldn't really see, like, everything," he said. "She was covered up with grass, like the bush was kind of covering her hair, and then she was wrapped up in a blanket, and she was stuffed in a duffel bag."

He described the girl's face as being peaceful, almost as if she were asleep.

Fighting back tears, the man told KTLA the first thing he thought of when they made the grim discovery was his own children. He became overcome with emotion at that point and the interview ended.

Trinity's death has been ruled a homicide by the county coroner's office, though authorities remain tight-lipped about how she died.  Investigators have indicated they found no obvious signs of trauma on her body.

In a statement Sunday, sheriff's investigators said more information would be released later this week during a news conference. They did not specify a date.
