24-year old Lumberton, North Carolina rapper Bussdown, born Walter Morrell McKoy Jr., has received a life sentence in prison for the 2015 murder of a friend.
According to the Robsonian, Bussdown was convicted of killing 21-year-old William Covington.
Bussdown and Covington allegedly got into an argument over a gun that the rapper was loaned by Covington, but hadn't been returned. The disagreement turned violent while the two men sat in a car.
Once inside the vehicle Bussdown argued in court that he placed a firearm on his lap. When he saw Covington trying to pull a gun from his coat pocket, a struggle ensued. Gunfire erupted and Covington was struck three times in the head.
When presenting their case, prosecutors pointed out that the bullet wounds were in a semi-circular grouping about 4 inches wide, behind Covington's right ear.
The prosecution argued that such a neat grouping could not have been formed by accidental discharging during a struggle.
“Apparently the jury believed us,” Senior Assistant District Attorney Martha Duvall said.
Bussdown had previously rapped about the case in the song "Cookies."
