On this episode of People's Party, Talib Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with critically acclaimed comedian, writer, producer, and director Neal Brennan. They discuss Brennan's profound Netflix special "3 Mics," writing for SNL, as well as his work on "The Chappelle Show" -- where he wrote and produced virtually every sketch in tandem with Chappelle.
Later, Kweli, Jasmin, and Neal talk about his relationship with Dave and the aftermath of the show's abrupt ending. The wide-ranging conversation includes stories of white friends asking Neal how to make black friends, Kweli and Neal sharing stories of their first meetings with Chappelle, Neal's cameo in "Half Baked" becoming a meme, his friend Ellen's much-criticized selfie with George W. Bush, as well as the "political news comedy" genre and the impact of comedians like John Oliver and Trevor Noah during the Trump era.
Later on in the show, Neal and Talib share experiences with people telling them how their work -- Talib's song "Get By" and Neal's stand up content covering depression -- has helped them overcome trying times. They also go on to speak about Kanye West's struggles with identity, the low bar of modern-day journalism, and comedy stylings that are long overdue for retirement.

Louisville Courier Journal -- Police in Paducah, Kentucky, arrested a man Tuesday who robbed a hotel but was scared away when the clerk grabbed his gun and pointed it at him.
The Paducah Police Department posted a video to its Facebook page that captures the man robbing the Country Inn and Suites on McBride Lane on Monday night.
The suspect was wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, jeans, white shoes and a white shirt around his face along with a University of Alabama "sock hat" on his head, police said.
The surveillance footage from the hotel captured the man brandishing a gun and having the clerk throw money onto the hotel's front desk.
Before she takes out the money, the robber is seen trying to channel some of that University of Alabama athleticism and climb over and behind the desk.
But the clerk has none of that and pushes him back over to the other side.
She then throws the money out onto the desk, and the suspect places his gun down on the countertop to put the money into a plastic bag.
That's when the clerk grabs the handgun and points it at the robber, who quickly scrambles out the front door of the hotel.
But he soon comes back inside and tries to get over the desk in an apparent attempt to get the gun from the clerk. But she again stands her ground and points the gun at him, causing him to turn and run back outside.
According to Paducah police, the robber fled in a car, with the white shirt and Alabama hat later found near the hotel.
On Tuesday, Paducah police announced that Cory T. Phillips, 26, of West Paducah, was arrested after a traffic stop and charged with first-degree robbery and receiving stolen property in connection with the hotel incident.
Phillips was pulled over Tuesday by a McCracken County Sheriff's Office deputy who saw Phillips was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
The deputy found a stolen laptop in Phillips' car and later determined the gun used in the hotel robbery had also been stolen, according to police.
Phillips was booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail, according to police.
