During her emotional visit to Wyoming to see husband Kanye West earlier this week, Kim Kardashian West asked him to abandon his unlikely presidential campaign and "focus on his mental health instead," a source tells PEOPLE.

"Kim urged Kanye to not move forward with running for president, but he won't listen," the source says.

Indeed, on Monday — the same day Kim, 39, was in Cody at their family's ranch to reunite with Kanye — his team filed paperwork trying to get him on the ballot as an independent candidate in Missouri and New Jersey ahead of the November election. (He has also filed in Illinois and Oklahoma, though he faces significant hurdles in qualifying across the country.)

On Saturday Kanye, 43, tweeted boastfully in all caps that "I CAN BEAT" former Vice President Joe Biden through write-in votes alone.

In a Forbes interview this month about his politics, Kanye criticized vaccination and Black History Month and said he would run the White House like a fictional country from Black Panther, though he noted “I don’t have all of the pieces in the puzzle.”

"God just gave me the clarity and said it’s time," he told Forbes of his run. "You know I was out there, ended up in the hospital, people were calling me crazy. I'm not crazy."

Kim initially appeared to support her husband’s presidential ambitions by sharing his announcement tweet on July 4 along with an American flag emoji.

But sources have told PEOPLE her focus shifted as Kanye went on to make a series of alarming statements and social media posts, including claiming Kim tried to have him "locked up" and attacking her mother, Kris Jenner.

At a campaign event in South Carolina, he also revealed he and Kim had considered having an abortion when she became pregnant with oldest daughter North — a public revelation that left her "furious" and "shocked," according to a source.

Kanye apologized in a tweet over the weekend, pleading for forgiveness.

An insider tells PEOPLE now that "Kim wants him to get his priorities straight" and that Kanye "hasn't seen the kids for weeks."

Video After The Jump

Moscow (CNN) Mikhail Khachaturyan's body was found on a staircase in a Moscow apartment block in July 2018, with dozens of knife wounds to his chest & neck.

A few hours before his death, he had returned from a psychiatric clinic, lined up his 3 daughters to chastise them for the messy apartment and pepper-sprayed their faces, according to investigators and the sisters' lawyers. His eldest daughter Krestina, who has asthma, fainted.

That was the night that the Khachaturyan sisters -- Krestina, 19, Angelina, 18, and Maria, 17 -- decided to kill their father. They attacked him with a hammer, a knife & the same can of pepper spray he had turned on them earlier.

Interrogation transcripts leaked to the press, and verified to CNN by a lawyer for one of the sisters, show that the women tried to inflict wounds on themselves to make it seem as if their father, who was sleeping at the start of the attack, had struck them with a knife first. Then they called the police & an ambulance.

The next day the 3 were arrested & confessed to the killing, saying they had endured years of sexual, physical & emotional abuse from their father.

Last summer the sisters were indicted on charges of premeditated murder, sparking an uproar among activists in Russia, which is grappling with a far-reaching domestic abuse problem.

After a long and tangled pre-trial investigation, their trial opens Friday in a Moscow courtroom. The 2 elder sisters, Krestina & Angelina, will stand trial together. Maria, who was a minor at the time of the killing but indicted after she turned 18, has also been deemed mentally unfit to commit a murder & will be tried separately on a murder charge.

Domestic violence experts, along with the sisters' defense team, say that in the absence of adequate protective mechanisms within law enforcement & the court system, their only choice was to defend themselves or eventually die at their father's hands.

In text conversations obtained from their father's phone and published on Facebook by Liptser, Mikhail Khachaturyan appeared to have threatened to kill them & sexually abuse them & their mother.

"I will beat you up for everything, I will kill you," says one text from April 2018, accusing them of having sexual relations with a male friend. "You are prostitutes & you will die as prostitutes."

The interrogation transcripts also painted a chilling picture of mental, physical and sexual abuse dating at least four years prior to the killing.

Dr. Dre just filed his answer to his wife’s divorce petition, and he revealed something she didn’t – there’s a prenup.

Dre’s wife, Nicole Young, filed for divorce on June 29, citing irreconcilable differences. She is asking for spousal support and a division of property.

Dre says in his answer, filed by Disso Queen Laura Wasser, that he’s fine paying Nicole spousal support but he says any distribution of property should be governed by their prenuptial agreement.

Nicole made no mention of a prenup in her petition ... and sources connected with her told TMZ there was no prenup. That is not the case.

As for the prenup ... Dre's estimated worth is $800 million.

There are no issues relating to child support or custody ... their 3 kids are all adults.

Dre lists the date of separation as March 27, 2020 ... just weeks after the coronavirus lockdown began.

The couple married in 1996.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A murder suspect accused of using a samurai sword to kill his roommate in Connecticut did not speak at a hearing and is not currently represented by an attorney.

At an arraignment hearing in Hartford on Tuesday, Jerry David Thompson, 42, refused to speak. Police said he is claiming he is a sovereign citizen, meaning he believes the government is illegitimate and its laws not binding.

He also declined to speak with a public defender and is not represented by an attorney, the Hartford Courant reported.

Thompson is charged in the killing of Victor King, 64, who rented him a room in his home in downtown Hartford, the police said.

The two men had argued about Thompson not paying rent, and Thompson threatened King with the sword, the newspaper reported.

On Saturday, King reported the threat to the police, Hartford detectives said. Friends of King called the police on Sunday when they could not reach him. His body was found with multiple stab wounds on the floor of the kitchen, police said.

A judge has ordered Thompson held on $2 million bail and continued the case until August 18.

Malik B, a founding member of The Roots and solo artist, has passed away. He was 47.

The Philadelphia rapper’s death was first confirmed by his cousin, former CBS News correspondent Don Champion, as well as founding members Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter.

Born Malik Abdul Baset, the rapper and singer first joined The Roots before the group’s 1993 debut studio album, “Organix.” He also appeared on the band’s next three albums including “Do You Want More?!!!??!,” “Illadelph Halflife” and “Things Fall Apart.”

“It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we regretfully inform you of the passing of our beloved brother and long time Roots member Malik Abdul Baset,” Questlove and Black Thought said in a statement to The Post. “May he be remembered for his devotion to Islam, His loving brotherhood and His innovation as one of the most gifted MCs of all time. We ask that you please respect his family and extended family in our time of mourning such a great loss.”

The Roots also tweeted a similar statement.

“Mourning my beloved cousin today,” Champion wrote on Twitter. “He was so talented and had a huge heart. I still remember when he and The Roots were starting out. He’d give me and my dad their cassette tapes to listen to. I miss you already, Mailk. #RIP.”

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Malik B, one of the greatest MC’s to ever come from this city,” wrote fellow Philly-based rapper Reef The Lost Cauze, whose real name is Sharif T. Lacey. “He had his troubles for sure, but dude inspired a whole generation of us to touch the mic. Myself included. May he rest peacefully.”

The details of his death have not yet been revealed.

Malik B left the group in 1999 before The Roots released its fifth album, “Phrenology.” Roots member Black Thought dedicated a song to Malik B entitled “Water” on the album describing how they met.

The emcee was also a member of the underground rap group, Army Of The Pharaohs, and later appeared as a guest artist on several Roots’ songs, like “Game Theory.”

Baset also had a solo career after leaving The Roots, including an EP and two albums. His most recent was 2016’s “Unpredictable” with producer Mr. Green.

Video After The Jump

(CNN) Texas Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert tests positive for COVID-19 before planning to fly to Texas with President Trump

Gohmert has spent ample time on the House floor during votes speaking to aides and lawmakers — without a mask or social distancing. His office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Gohmert had been scheduled to fly aboard Air Force One on Wednesday with President Donald Trump to Midland, Texas, where the President is fundraising and touring an oil rig. He tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday morning during a pre-flight screening at the White House, a person familiar with the situation told CNN. Because of the positive test, Gohmert is not traveling with the President.

A senior Republican aide told CNN the test results have caused issues on the Hill where "a lot of staffers" were ordered to get tests before they can go to meetings and resume activity. Some are sequestering in their offices until they can get tested. Gohmert's office notified Republican leaders, who notified House medical staff and the protocol kicked in for further notification, the GOP aide said.

Politico first reported the news of Gohmert's test.

Gohmert told CNN last month that he didn't wear a mask because he had been tested and he didn't yet have the virus. "But if I get it, you'll never see me without a mask," he said.

In an interview with a local Texas television station KETK on Wednesday, Gohmert suggested he may have contracted coronavirus by incorrectly wearing his mask.

"I can't help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, that if I might have put some germs or some of the virus onto the mask and breathed it in," Gohmert said. He added that he has been wearing a mask more during the past two weeks than he has in the past three or four months.

"I can't help but think that if I hadn't been wearing a mask so much in the last 10 days or so, I really wonder if I would have gotten it," Gohmert added. "You know, moving the mask around, getting it just right, we're bound to put some virus on the mask that I sucked in. That's most likely what happened."

Incorrectly wearing a mask, including touching and adjusting it in public, can lead to exposure to the virus. Face masks are most effective when wearers do not touch their faces or move the mask around when using it. But Gohmert's claim that such a scenario is "most likely" how he was infected is questionable, as experts say the virus primarily spreads during person-to-person contact.
