(CNN) Two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were shot and critically injured Saturday night, officials said.
"One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle," a sheriff's department tweet read.
"Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. They are both currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is still at large."
Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press conference Saturday night that the shooting in Compton was done "in a cowardly fashion" and that both deputies were being treated at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.
Capt. Kent Wegener said the shooting happened at 7 p.m. Wegener said the suspect approached from behind the deputies' vehicle and walked along the passenger side. He acted as if he was going to walk past the car, raised a pistol and shot multiple times hitting both deputies, Wegener said.
The two officers -- a 31-year-old mother and a 24-year-old man -- were taken to a local hospital and are "both still fighting for their lives," LASD said. Both deputies were sworn in 14 months ago, Villanueva said.
"This is just a somber reminder that this is a dangerous job, and actions and words have consequences. Our job does not get any easier because people do not like law enforcement," Villanueva said. "It pisses me off, it dismays me at the same time. There's no pretty way to say it."

ORLANDO, Fla. — A pastor and self-proclaimed prophet who shot and killed his estranged wife outside her job at a bank near the Mall at Millenia Tuesday morning threatened to kill her during an argument the day before, a newly released affidavit showed.
Police say Sylvester Ofori, 35, shot and killed his wife Barbara Tommey outside her job at Navy Federal Credit Union in Orlando Tuesday morning.
Shortly after Sylvester Ofori shot Barbara Tommey, 27, in the head multiple times outside Navy Federal Credit Union just before 9 a.m., detectives from the Orlando Police Department contacted Tommey’s sister, who had recorded a fight between the two on Monday.
Tommey’s sister showed detectives the video, in which Ofori threatened to kill Tommey while wearing the same shirt he wore when he shot and killed her, the affidavit said.
Tommey’s sister and brother-in-law told police the couple was divorcing and estranged, and they identified Ofori as the shooter from a surveillance photo.
That morning, bank patrons who had been waiting for the bank to open when the shooting occurred told officers Ofori was holding a gun while following Tommey as she walked toward the bank.
Tommey knocked on the doors for someone to let her in as Ofori continued toward her. He was within feet of her when he shot her once and she collapsed, the affidavit said.
As Tommey was lying on the ground, Ofori shot her in the head a few more times, witnesses told police. The affidavit did not specify how many times he shot her.
After shooting Tommey, Ofori walked back to his car, a rented Dodge Journey, and drove away “as though nothing happened,” witnesses told police.
Tommey was found lying on the sidewalk in front of the bank with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, the affidavit said. She was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center that morning.
Police found the car Ofori was driving parked near the couple’s apartment on the 6100 block of Raleigh Street and noted he returned home “after killing the victim and after officers checked the apartment complex.”
Ofori was arrested at his apartment Tuesday on a charge of first degree murder with a firearm. He is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond.
A pastor at Floodgates of Heaven International Ministries in Parramore, 35-year-old Ofori advertised himself as a prophet and motivational speaker on Facebook. In the weeks leading up to the shooting, more than 60,000 followers on his Facebook page watched him post photos and captions centering on personal conflict.
In a post dated Aug. 11, he wrote “Don’t believe your neighbor or trust your friend. Be careful what you say even to your husband or wife. #Micah 7:5.”
The day before the shooting, he posted a photo to his page reading “One thing ppl gotta understand about extremely kind, nice, loving people is that their other side is just as EXTREME.”

Dark Lo drops his new album he recorded before his arrest. A New Collaboration LP with 2 up and coming independent artist from the Buffalo era. With Griselda and BSF kicking the door down for Buffalo to be accepted by the industry now is the time for the 716 talent to shine bright. Right before Dark Lo was snatched up by the Feds back in 2019 he had locked in with Upstate N.Y. artist Dirty O (4th 2 North) and Ponzo Houdini (Cake Boss) to create the Highly Anticipated Street EP titled “Dope Boy Secrets” Dirty O tells the story how him and Ponzo Houdini created only ideas to beats as they headed to Philly. The mission was to use a 3 day span and record all Dark Lo’s verses and then eventually turn the ideas and verses into full songs. While at mayhem studios in Philadelphia the work ethic of all 3 artist stood the test as the ideas inspired some of Dark Lo’s best verses to date. Taking him to different elements on songs Like Matrix and Secrets of a Dope Boy really take things to the next level. Of course street bangers like Shoot or get Shot as well as the Intro/Outro will capture many ears. Both Intro and Outro have a special appearance by Dutchie from the Major Figgas who came through during 2 of the 3 sessions while recording. Dutchie also helped play around with ideas to form the title of the album as well.
"Dope Boy Secrets" available now on all streaming platforms:

TAMPA, Fla. - Nearly a year after a jury recommended Granville Ritchie be put to death for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl, an emotional judge agreed, and sentenced him to death on Friday morning.
"The child victim suffered a horrendous, physically painful, psychologically torturous death," Hillsborough Circuit Judge Michelle Sisco said with her voice cracking, before removing her glasses to wipe away tears.
Investigators said, back in 2014, Ritchie assaulted and strangled young Felecia Williams before stuffing her body in a suitcase and dumping her into the water near the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
At the time, they said she was left alone with Ritchie after the woman who was babysitting her left to purchase drugs.
In September 2019, all 12 jurors agreed Ritchie, who grew up in Jamaica, should face the death penalty.
Friday's sentencing included testimony from Felecia Demerson, the 9-year-old's mother.
"I am here to bury this Jamaican today," she said during the hearing. "The only thing I regret today is I cannot ask for his fate…that would be for him to be hung. For him to feel what she felt. I feel like death is appropriate. All I know is he needs to be like her."

Nick Diaz belongs in the UFC Hall of Fame, despite the fact he's never won a UFC title ... so says Tyron Woodley.
"He's done enough in his career, in my opinion, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame," Tyron said on this week's "Hollywood Beatdown."
Diaz famously began his UFC career back in 2003 with an armbar submission victory over Jeremy Jackson.
He beat guys like Robbie Lawler before a showdown with Diego Sanchez on "The Ultimate Fighter 2" finale (Diaz lost that fight).
Nick jumped to Strikeforce, where he DOMINATED -- winning all 7 of his fights between 2009 and 2011, winning the welterweight title and defending it 4 times.
Eventually, the UFC bought Strikeforce and brought Diaz back to the UFC roster where he beat BJ Penn and lost some epic battles to guys like Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva.
Now, 37-year-old Diaz is rumored to be making a comeback ... but Tyron thinks he's already got a Hall of Fame resume.
There's a lot more in the episode ... including Tyron explaining why he's FINALLY ready to fight Colby Covington on Sept. 19th, a fight that's been talked about for roughly 2 years.

Nicolas Chavez, already weakened by two gunshot wounds, was on his knees and pulling a Taser toward him as four Houston Police Department officers fired a fatal barrage of bullets, according to police video of the encounter.
The officers involved in the April 21 death — identified as Sgt. Benjamin LeBlanc, officers Patrick Rubio, Omar Tapia and Luis Alvarado — were fired Thursday for what police Chief Art Acevedo said was their decision to fire a combined 21 rounds at Chavez, who was suffering from an apparent mental break and who died following their 15-minute encounter in east Houston. Acevedo determined the fatal shots were “not objectively reasonable.”
“You don’t get to shoot somebody 21 times,” Acevedo said. “Because, at the time, Mr. Chavez was at his greatest level of incapacitation.”
Prior to his death, Chavez, 27, had already been shot, stunned and was unable to get up on his own, Acevedo said. The officers, he continued, could have taken two to three steps back when he reached for the spent Taser but instead opened fire.
“I cannot defend that,” Acevedo continued.
Chavez was rushed to a hospital but did not survive. A toxicology report later found traces of meth and alcohol in Chavez’s body at the time of his death.
Concerned citizens first reported seeing a distraught man throwing himself in front of cars along Interstate 10 near Lockwood Street and jumping fences in the Denver Harbor neighborhood. One caller said he had what appeared to be a “metal tube” in his hand. He was bleeding and ranting.
Those calls led police to Chavez, who could be seen frantically huddled under a street light.
“I’m a MHMRA patient and I feel like dying,” Chavez is heard crying out, using an old acronym for the Harris Center mental health clinic.
“That’s fine,” another officer told him. “Have a seat.”
But Chavez paced the parking lot instead, at times stumbling, flailing and stabbing himself with what officers believed was a knife. LeBlanc fired two bean bag rounds at Chavez and Alvarado followed with the Taser. Neither appeared to have an effect and Chavez began walking toward the officers with the metal object.
LeBlanc and another officer, Kevin Nguyen, fired a combined three shots as Chavez approached him and a constable’s deputy. Acevedo said he found only that instance in the 24 total rounds fired to be reasonable.

NFL wide receiver Josh Bellamy was arrested Thursday after officials say he misused government loans intended to help struggling businesses survive the COVID pandemic on lavish items like Gucci, Dior and casino trips.
31-year-old Bellamy -- who was cut by the NY Jets just 2 days ago -- is essentially accused of participating in a scheme in which people applied for more than $24 MILLION in PPP loans, intended for business owners to help stay afloat during the pandemic.
But, prosecutors say neither Bellamy nor his co-conspirators put the money toward their businesses -- instead, Bellamy blew a fortune on things like custom jewelry, designer clothes and casino trips.
In fact, officials say Bellamy spent $95k on custom jewelry, $5,381 at Gucci and $2,014 at Dior.
They also claim he dropped more than $62k during a recent trip to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Of the requested $24 mil, officials say Bellamy and his co-conspirators received roughly $17.4 million in PPP loans.
The alleged conspiracy is complicated but boils down to this ...
Officials believe Bellamy not only requested PPP loans for his own company based on false records ... but would then recruit others to apply for giant loans -- and when that money was received from the government, Bellamy would take a sizable kickback from the borrower.
By the way, prosecutors say Bellamy does technically own a business -- Drip Entertainment -- but officials say it hasnt been “active” since 2019.
Prosecutors say they have bank records showing Bellamy made large bank withdrawals recently -- taking around $302,800 between May and July 2020.
Officials say Bellamy executed the scheme while he was preparing for the 2020 NFL season.
If convicted, both the bank fraud and wire fraud charges carry lengthy prison sentences ... we're talkin' decades.
Bellamy was an undrafted free agent out of Louisville in 2012 -- and went on to play for the Chiefs, Bears, Jets and others.

“Stash Box” is the first single from 38 Spesh’s album Interstate 38. I-38 drops in October
38 Spesh has been so focused on producing for the last year, rappers finally got a chance to breathe. But that all ended in July when he dropped his first solo project of 2020, “6 Shots: Overkill.” The EP demonstrates how effortless emceeing is for the Rochester mastermind. However, what heads didn’t know is that the release was just warm-up for his upcoming full-length studio album titled “Interstate 38.”
To spark this campaign off right Spesh is giving fans what they’ve been demanding, a new single with his day-one Benny The Butcher! As soon you hear the sped up sample that starts “Stash Box,” you know you’re in for something special. It goes without saying that the bars here are ridiculous. Both emcees manage to document their come ups and eventual triumphs in 16 bars a piece.
