HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) - A $1 million bond has been set for a 25-year-old father charged with murdering his 2-year-old daughter.
On Monday, Deontray Flanagan, 25, picked up his daughter from day care & led police on a chase, which turned into a standoff.
ABC13 spoke to the mother of 2-year-old Zevaya Flanagan, who is haunted by her daughter's last moments alive, which she watched on FaceTime during the police pursuit.
"She was on his lap & she was gasping for air & he had his arm around her neck squeezing tighter," Kairsten Watson, Zevaya's mother, recalled. "He said, 'This is what you made me do. All you care about is that man.' I (was) telling him, 'No. Stop, please. This is your daughter. She loves you,' & he's still doing it."
The chase ended after Flanagan crashed into other cars & stopped in a field, sparking a standoff. SWAT officers surrounded the vehicle & after about 20 minutes, Sheriff's moved in. The toddler was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Flanagan hit his daughter with & against a blunt object & also choked her to death.
Watson is frustrated officials waited to move in when she says every second mattered.
"I am telling the officers, 'look at this FaceTime, move in, move,'" Watson said. "They sat there & said they have to get everyone ready & they have to put on their shields & all this extra stuff like he wasn't killing her on this FaceTime call. They waited at least 20 minutes to move in."
Flanagan's criminal history also dates back to 2017. He was charged with evading arrest nearly 6 years ago.
In 2018, Flanagan was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member & sentenced to 30 days in jail. During the same year, he was also charged with criminal mischief for driving a car into someone's home. Records show he is still on probation for that charge.

PASADENA, Texas (Click2Houston) – The body of a child, believed to be missing 2-year-old Nadia Lee, was found Monday in a bayou in the Pasadena area.
“Based on information obtained throughout the investigation & circumstances in which the remains were recovered, it is believed the remains are of 2-year-old Nadia Lee. However, the official identification is pending autopsy results,” Houston police wrote in a news release.
Nadia was the daughter of 26-year-old Jyron Charles Lee, who was arrested & charged with murder after reportedly choking his 22-year-old wife Nancy Reed to death during a dispute about the way she disciplined their other child on Oct. 19, 2022.
Authorities said Lee stopped cooperating with investigators about the whereabouts of Nadia & DNA evidence found inside his apartment had them believing the girl may be dead.
Authorities believe Nadia was killed on or around Oct. 16 in Pasadena.
Lee was charged with capital murder in connection to Nadia’s death. His bond for both charges, Nadia’s case & Nancy’s, is set at a combined total of $1.85 million.
An African serval cat that was found with cocaine in its system after an escape at a traffic stop now calls the Cincinnati Zoo home, much to the delight of social media users still amused by the recent release of the movie “Cocaine Bear.”
The wild cat’s story has trended online, where users relished in the absurdity of the horror comedy, which riffs off the true story of a 175-pound black bear that was found dead near a duffle bag & some $2 million worth of cocaine. Social media users have predictably dubbed the serval “cocaine cat.”
The slender feline made its escape after its owner was pulled over by police on Jan. 28. It leapt from the car into a tree.
Ray Anderson of Cincinnati Animal CARE said that local animal control, Hamilton County Dog Wardens, were called around 2 a.m. in the residential Oakley neighborhood.
In Ohio, it is illegal to own the animals, which can weigh up to 40 pounds. During the rescue mission, the cat named Amiry broke its leg & became more agitated.
Once Amiry was taken in for medical care by Cincinnati Animal CARE, the team ran a drug test in which they determined that Amiry had cocaine in his system.
It’s not the first time that Cincinnati Animal CARE, which has been operating as the county animal shelter, has had a wild animal test positive for drugs. In 2022, the group took in a capuchin monkey, named Neo, that had methamphetamine in its system.
“There are way better options for pets that are way more safe, economically smart & sustainable,” she said.
Instead of trying to keep a wild animal as a pet, Anderson said, “You could save a whole lot of money & get a really awesome house cat at your local animal shelter.”
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne were among the “John Wick: Chapter 4” stars honoring Lance Reddick, their co-star who died unexpectedly last week, at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.
“We lost our brother, and in a really sort of very shocking way. I think we’re all still in shock. “Life is,” the visibly-shaken Fishburne said, pausing briefly before continuing, “hard sometimes.”
Many of those who worked on the film wore blue ribbons to honor Reddick, who was a prolific character actor with prominent roles in “The Wire,” “Oz” & the “John Wick” film franchise.
“Just to be in his light & to get a chance to work with him, I’ll cherish for the rest of my life,” Reeves said. “He had such a passion for his work and his craft. He was gracious. He had a dignity to him & a presence.”
Reddick, 60, died Friday in Los Angeles of natural causes.
Tributes have poured in for the actor, whose roles made him a beloved and recognizable star of television and films. He played Charon, the multi-skilled Continental Hotel concierge who is fond of Wick, an assassin played by Reeves. The latest installment arrives in theaters Friday.
“He’s the goodness of this film. He was kind of, in many ways, the heart of the film because his character loved John Wick,” Fisburne said.
“You know, it’s always hard when you lose someone that you love dearly . . . but you’re also incredibly grateful for the time you had together. We were fortunate enough to work with Lance since the very beginning of the ‘John Wick’ franchise. I mean it’s been almost 10 years,” director Chad Stahelski said. “I really wish he could be with us tonight, but, you know, life. But we’re very fortunate to have known him. And he’s a great man, a great artist, a great human, a dear friend.”

Amanda Bynes has been placed on a psychiatric hold after she was found roaming the streets naked & alone.
An eyewitness tells us ... Bynes was seen walking near downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning without any clothes. We're told Bynes waved a car down, telling the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode. Amanda herself then called 911.
Our law enforcement sources say Bynes was taken to a nearby police station, where a mental health team determined she needed to be placed on a 5150 psych hold.
Fortunately, our sources say it doesn't appear Bynes was hurt at all during the ordeal, though things could've been much worse given the area where she was found.
A source close to Amanda tells us she's currently hospitalized & will likely continue to receive care for several days. Typically, a psychiatric hold only lasts 72 hours, but it can be extended.
It was almost 1 year to the day when Amanda's 9-year conservatorship was officially terminated. Amanda's mother was her conservator starting back in 2013 when it was clear she was having issues with her mental health -- she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After a series of bizarre incidents -- including one where she set her neighbor's driveway on fire, almost engulfing her dog in flames -- she was sent to a psychiatric ward for treatment.
Interestingly enough, Amanda was supposed to attend 90s Con in Connecticut this weekend, an event she canceled on due to illness.
Since the conservatorship ended, Amanda seemed to be doing well for herself, though the most recent incident is obviously very concerning ... it's unclear if her parents or legal team will step in.

Moscow & Beijing share a cause: Both countries have accused Washington of trying to isolate them & hold back their development as they challenge it for regional & global leadership.
Putin also specifically said the meeting sent a message to Washington that the 2 countries aren’t prepared to accept attempts to weaken them.
“The U.S. policy of simultaneously deterring Russia & China, as well as all those who do not bend to the American diktat, is getting ever fiercer & more aggressive,” he wrote.

A jury on Monday convicted the 3 men accused of murdering rapper XXXTentacion in Florida in 2018, following more than a week of deliberations.
The 20-year-old artist, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was shot to death on June 18, 2018, outside of a motorcycle shop north of Miami.
In the attack, the rapper was in a car leaving Riva Motorsports when an SUV blocked his vehicle & 2 masked gunmen came out of it. 1 repeatedly shot at the rapper & the assailants grabbed a Louis Vuitton bag from the car with $50,000 inside & escaped in the SUV.
Dedrick Williams, 26; Trayvon Newsome, 24; & Michael Boatwright, 28, were each found guilty of first-degree murder & armed robbery in Broward County court.
All 3 men are scheduled to return to court on April 6 for a sentencing hearing. The first-degree murder charges come with life sentences.
The trio had pleaded not guilty. A 4th person, Robert Allen, 25, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year & testified for the prosecution against the other 3.
Prosecutors said that Boatwright was the gunman who opened fire, that Newsome was the other gunman & that Williams was the driver of the SUV. Surveillance video played in court showed the attack, depicting the moment 2 masked gunmen target the rapper's car with guns drawn & 1 appears to shoot through the driver's side window.
The defense tried to cast doubt on Allen’s testimony & pointed to the failure of detectives to investigate XXXTentacion’s feud with rapper Drake, but prosecutors said there was no evidence linking Drake to the shooting.

DALLAS (AP) — A man & woman charged in the fatal shootings of 4 people at a Dallas apartment where an infant was found unharmed told police they’d broken into the home to take money, according to court documents.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, police were called after family members reported that the victims had not answered their phones all day.
When officers arrived, they found 2 men & 2 women who were fatally shot inside the apartment. Police identified the victims as 18-year-old Juan Diego Cruz, 20-year-old Jasmine Borjas Santos, 21-year-old Fatima Guadalupe Alvarado Fuentes & 24-year-old Lupe Cruz.
Police said an infant was inside the apartment when the shooting happened, but they were not injured.
Police identified 2 suspects in the case: 18-year-old Artemio Maldonado & 20-year-old Azucena Sanchez.
The affidavit said Sanchez was the ex-girlfriend of victim, Juan Cruz, & that they were in a custody dispute over their child. Relatives of Juan Cruz told police that Sanchez & Maldonado had made multiple threats against him.
Sanchez told police that she and Maldonado broke into the apartment to rob it. Sanchez said she didn’t think anyone was home but once inside, the victims confronted the pair.
Maldonado admitted to shooting all of the victims, according to court documents. Maldonado & Sanchez took a box from a closet they thought contained money, but it turned out to be empty.
