The wife of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was sentenced Tuesday to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to helping her husband run his multibillion-dollar criminal empire.

Emma Coronel Aispuro also helped her husband plan a dramatic escape through a tunnel dug underneath a prison in Mexico in 2015 by smuggling a GPS watch to him disguised as a food item, prosecutors said during a hearing in federal court in Washington. That helped those digging the tunnel pinpoint his location & reach him. The leader of the Sinaloa cartel was recaptured the following year.

Prosecutors had asked for four years in prison, but U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras imposed a shorter term, saying her role was a small piece of a much larger organization. Her arrest doesn’t seem to have reduced the harm caused by the cartel, he said. “There appears to be no shortage of willing participants,” he said.

She had faced a minimum of 10 years in prison, but was subject to a so-called “safety valve” provision because she had no criminal record, was not considered a leader & was not involved with violence.

Defense attorneys also pointed out she was a 17-year-old from an impoverished family when she met Guzman and married him on her 18th birthday. “This began when she was a very impressionable minor married to a powerful man more than three decades older,” Jeffrey Lichtman said.

Coronel Aispuro expressed “true regret for any and all harm” as she spoke through a Spanish translator in court. “I am here before you, asking for forgiveness,” she said. She asked for a sentence that would allow her to watch her 9-year-old twin daughters grow up.

She previously pleaded guilty to three federal offenses as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors. She also surrendered $1.5 million.

The charges include knowingly and willfully conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, marijuana & methamphetamine for several years. She also pleaded guilty to a money-laundering conspiracy charge and to engaging in transactions with a foreign narcotics trafficker.

She also helped buy land for the tunnel and smuggle Guzman’s messages to his subordinates while he was in prison, which allowed him to stay in control of the Sinaloa cartel while behind bars.

“He chose her to move those messages to people who worked for him,” said prosecutor Anthony Nardozzi, who called her a “cog in a very large wheel.”

The 32-year-old was arrested in February at Dulles International Airport in Virginia and has been jailed since then. She will also serve four years of supervised release after the prison sentence.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A former football player at the University of Central Florida was fatally shot during an altercation with his father & his mother was wounded.

Otis Anderson Jr. was killed late Monday during the argument with his father, Otis Anderson Sr., at his parents’ home in Jacksonville, Florida.

The fight started after the former running back’s father was bit by a dog belonging to Anderson’s girlfriend. Anderson got into a verbal fight with his 52-year-old father & his mother urged him to go back upstairs. Anderson’s father & mother than began arguing & the senior Anderson flipped over a recliner, causing Anderson to come back downstairs to check on his mother’s well-being.

Anderson then began arguing with his father. The part of the police report describing the shooting was blacked out, but it said Anderson had a gunshot wound to his chest & back. Anderson’s mother, Denise, was treated for graze wounds at a hospital.

Anderson’s father is facing charges of second-degree murder & attempted second-degree murder.

Anderson played for UCF from 2017 to 2020 & had 3,708 all-purpose yards and 27 touchdowns, the eighth-highest in the school’s record books.

In a tweet, University of Tennessee head football coach Josh Heupel, who coached Anderson at UCF, said he was “saddened & stunned” by his death.

“Tough & gritty, fun & full of laughter, he made such a positive impact on our university, community & our locker room,” Heupel said. “He was an unbelievable teammate.”

OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A 15-year-old sophomore opened fire at his Michigan high school on Tuesday, killing 3 students & wounding 6 other people, including a teacher.

Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said at a news conference that he didn’t know what the assailant’s motives were for the attack at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a community of about 22,000 people roughly 30 miles north of Detroit.

Officers responded at around 12:55 p.m. to a flood of 911 calls about an active shooter at the school, McCabe said. Authorities arrested the suspect at the school & recovered a semi-automatic handgun & several clips.

“Deputies confronted him, he had the weapon on him, they took him into custody,” McCabe said, adding that suspect wasn’t hurt when he was taken into custody & he refused to say how he got the gun into the school.

Authorities didn’t immediately release the names of the suspect or victims.

Tim Throne, the superintendent of Oxford Community Schools, said he didn’t know yet know the victims’ names or whether their families had been contacted.

“I’m shocked. It’s devastating,” the shaken superintendent told reporters.

The school was placed on lockdown after the attack, with some children sheltering in locked classrooms while officers searched the premises. They were later taken to a nearby Meijer grocery store to be picked up by their parents.

McCabe said investigators would be looking through social media posts for any evidence of a possible motive.

Robin Redding, the parent of a 12th-grader, told The Associated Press that there had been rumblings of trouble at the school.

“He was not in school today. He just said that ‘Ma I don’t feel comfortable. None of the kids that we go to school with are going today,’” Redding said.

The world’s first living robots — known as “xenobots” — can now reproduce.

Details about the robots, created using the heart & skin stem cells from the African clawed frog, were unveiled last year after experiments showed they could move & self-heal.

Now, the scientists at Tufts University, the University of Vermont & Harvard who made the xenobots say the tiny blobs can also self-replicate.

The results of the new research were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Monday.

Experiments showed that the organisms can swim out into their dish, find other single cells and assemble “baby” xenobots.

A few days later, the babies become new xenobots that look and move just like the initial creation.

The new xenobots can then go out and self-replicate again, according to the scientists.

Xenobots, which are less than a millimeter wide, are designed on a computer and hand-assembled.

The scientists said they were stunned to learn the tiny blobs could spontaneously replicate.

“People have thought for quite a long time that we’ve worked out all the ways that life can reproduce or replicate. But this is something that’s never been observed before,” said Douglas Blackiston, who worked on the study.

“This is profound,” added Michael Levin, co-leader of the research. “These cells have the genome of a frog, but, freed from becoming tadpoles, they use their collective intelligence, a plasticity, to do something astounding.”

The team said the new research could be beneficial for advancements in regenerative medicine.

“If we knew how to tell collections of cells to do what we wanted them to do, ultimately, that’s regenerative medicine — that’s the solution to traumatic injury, birth defects, cancer, and aging,” Levin said.

“All of these different problems are here because we don’t know how to predict & control what groups of cells are going to build. Xenobots are a new platform for teaching us.”

Ye's on a mission to help the homeless population of Los Angeles, meeting with charitable organizations and coming up with strategies he believes can help to ease the growing problem in the city.

As we'd shown you ... Kanye stopped by the L.A. Mission to drop off 1,000 meals last week but turns out he also took time to meet with the people in charge. We're told during his sit-down with Reverend Troy Vaughn, CEO of L.A. Mission, Ye laid out 4 ways he believes he can help the homeless.

First, Kanye wants to create a plan to continue feeding the unhoused by establishing a working relationship with orgs across the city. He also wants to use his own companies to help provide education, jobs & housing.

Ye believes he can use his platform & Sunday Service to inspire and uplift the homeless community in L.A. in only ways his artistry has been able to do with others.

Finally, Kanye wants to partner with other groups tackling the crisis & combine their efforts with his ability to provide a bold & innovative vision for the future. Together, he believes they can eliminate the homeless situation.

As we reported, Kanye also spoke to those in attendance at the mission, saying he believes God will bring him & Kim Kardashian back together ... inspiring millions of couples in the process.

Of course, the homeless population in L.A. has only grown since the start of the pandemic, with lawmakers & citizens looking for ways to help those in need.

Just recently, an unarmed response pilot program was launched in Venice Beach to help assist law enforcement with calls, especially those that have to do with mental health.

Travis Scott's seemingly genuine gesture of wanting to cover burial costs for those killed as a result of his Astroworld Festival has been turned down by the show's youngest victim.

The family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount -- who was allegedly trampled at the concert, and later died from his injuries -- is rejecting the rapper's offer to pay for the funeral ... this according to their attorney, Bob Hilliard, who just filed suit against Scott on behalf of the Blounts.

In a letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, Hilliard writes ... "Your client’s offer is declined. I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face & hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy."

Blount was laid to rest in a private ceremony last week ... after he was taken off life support a few weeks following the tragedy in early November. Ezra became the 10th person in the death toll, with hundreds more injured.

This rejection came in response to an olive branch extended by Travis' attorney, Daniel Petrocelli, who sent the Blounts the funeral expense offer on behalf of his client, writing ... "Travis is committed to doing his part to help the families who have suffered & begin the long process of healing in the Houston community. Toward that end, Travis would like to pay for the funeral expenses for Mr. Blount’s son."

R&B singer Tremaine Neverson — also known as Trey Songz — is being investigated after reportedly being involved in a sexual assault on the Las Vegas Strip over the weekend, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed.

The sexual assault was reported to LVMPD on Sunday and is under investigation by sex crimes detectives. It happened at a hotel in the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, police said.

"Neverson is cooperating with the investigation," according to LVMPD.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made, police said.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Prosecutors asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the ruling that overturned Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, arguing in a petition Monday that a dangerous precedent could be set if press releases are treated as immunity agreements.

Cosby’s lawyers have long argued that he relied on a promise that he would never be charged when he gave damaging testimony in an accuser’s civil suit in 2006. The admissions were later used against him in two criminal trials.

The only written evidence of such a promise is a 2005 press release from the then-prosecutor, Bruce Castor, who said he did not have enough evidence to arrest Cosby.

The release included an ambiguous “caution” that Castor “will reconsider this decision should the need arise.” The parties have since spent years debating what that meant.

“This decision as it stands will have far-reaching negative consequences beyond Montgomery County and Pennsylvania. The U.S. Supreme Court can right what we believe is a grievous wrong,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele wrote in the petition, which seeks a Supreme Court review under the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution.

Cosby, 84, became the first celebrity convicted of sexual assault in the #MeToo era when the jury at his 2018 retrial found him guilty of drugging and molesting college sports administrator Andrea Constand in 2004.

He spent nearly three years in prison before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court set him free in June.

Steele’s bid to revive the case is a long shot. The U.S. Supreme Court accepts fewer than 1% of the petitions it receives. Legal scholars and victim advocates will be watching closely, though, to see if the court takes an interest in a high-profile #MeToo case.

Teyana Taylor went to the hospital over the weekend ... because she says her body just gave out.

Teyana took a pic of herself in a hospital bed ... telling fans in Connecticut she was sorry for canceling at the last minute and promising a make-good at some point in the future.

It's unclear what happened, but Teyana's had a rough couple of months. Back in August, she discovered lumps in her breasts and underwent emergency surgery ... fortunately doctors gave her an all-clear.

As for the latest scare, she said, "... my body simply just gave out, which actually started a few days ago. SHUT DOWN, my body actually low key betrayed me cause ah bitch was tryna get on that sage."

She went on to caution, "But honestly you have to listen to your body and know when to sit down, or it will definitely sit you down. In the ER ... I've since got the proper fluids and nutrients put back into my body all night/morning & will take the next few off days to continue to recover."
