Remember waiting on that next issue of The Source, VIBE, Yo!! Raps, XXL, and other Hip Hop Magazines, just to see if your favorite Emcee made the cover and to get the real news behind the scenes of hip hop?? Well so does #IGrind magazine, and they are trying to bring that old feeling of nostalgia back.

Over time the internet killed the sales of magazine prints. And also, had everyone running to be the first to tell anything never knowing what was trending next. This has been a major cause of the wack artists that saturate the hip hop culture today. With media outlets basically just "looking" for news, anything goes. No more talent, no more grind, no more respect paid to those who made their own lane. Whoever everyone else says is popular, or who ever has paid, makes the release list for the day.

72114879?profile=original

#IGrind Magazine strives to change that. With no real website promotion and no real social media marketing, they release monthly issues of their magazine. Which are then available for free digital reading or physical copies delivered right to the readers door. For very decent prices. And hip hop heads, readers and artists alike, are flocking to the publication.

But the only way to make the magazine, is too actually be grinding your brand. From Hip Hop artists to producers, jewelry makers to independent radio show hosts and owners...#IGrind looks to feature those who are building their own industry. We're told that is what they pride themselves in...to feature those who deserve recognition...and not those who have bought recognition.

72114887?profile=original

Having started beginning of 2016, #IGrind released 8 issues in just 10 months. Their covers featured amazing grinders. A gore-hop femcee who tours regularly and sells out shows, creator of an independent music video show that airs in 30+ cities across the country, a west coast gangster rap originator and legend, an underground artist who sold over 150,000 units independently and a Chicago artist who has many many videos and songs with top selling Djs and artists, as well as a deal for years with Waka Flocka, but chooses to remain independent and underground. All of them built themselves from the ground up.

Although #IGrind said they never really wanted to feature the names already heavily known, they won't hesitate to feature anyone from underground to mainstream in their project and video reviews. They are fair, yet brutally honest. In this writers opinion, I think it is great publicity to have your latest project or video reviewed next to top selling artists. And actually get a better review!!

72114981?profile=original

Each issue is short with about 4-5 informative artist interviews. A few ads, but what we really enjoy are the final pages of each issue titled, "Back Room Discussion." For any up and coming recording artist, entrepreneur, or flat out legitimate hustler, this is almost a blueprint of ways to move in the game and what to watch for. Its interesting the topics they choose to cover as some of them are the most important, yet least discussed.

When we spoke to representatives of the magazine, they said they plan to continue exactly what they were doing.."if it ain't broke, why fix it". We were told they are always looking for new artists to feature and the ones with extensive history can make the cover. "It's not a popularity contest"..one of the editors said, " if one artist has 11 videos with 120 views, and another artist has one video with 60,000 views...we will most likely be interested in speaking with the artist with 11 videos. He shows that he is grinding. And that's what we celebrate...the grind."

You can check out all the issues on magcloud by following the link below. And any one interested in featuring in a future issue can contact #IGrind Magazine at igrindmag@yahoo.com

Singer George Michael Dead At Age 53

12352485270?profile=original

Video After The Jump

LONDON (AP) — George Michael, the British pop superstar who reached early fame with WHAM! and went on to a solo career lined with controversies and chart-topping hits that blended soul and dance music with daring social and personal commentary, has died, his publicist said Sunday. He was 53.

Michael died at his home in Goring, England. His publicist, Cindi Berger, said he had not been ill. Michael's manager, Michael Lippman, says the cause of death was heart failure. His family issued a statement through Thames Valley Police saying that he "passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.

"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Before Lippmann's announcement, police issued a statement calling the death "unexplained but not suspicious" and that "a post mortem will be undertaken in due course."

The loss of Michael continues a year of grief in the music industry, with David Bowie, Prince and Glenn Frey among those dying before age 70.

One of the giants of '80s and '90s music, and an early idol for the MTV generation, Michael enjoyed immense popularity from the start with hits such as "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," ''Young Guns (Go For It)" and "Freedom." As a solo artist, he developed into a more serious singer and songwriter, lauded by critics for his powerful vocal and expressive range. He sold well over 100 million albums globally, earned numerous Grammy and American Music Awards, and recorded duets with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Luciano Pavarotti and Elton John among others.

"I have lost a beloved friend — the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist," Elton John wrote on Instagram.

12352484865?profile=original

He reached the very heights of success, but agonized over being a celebrity. He spoke of cutting back on tours and interviews and letting his work speak for itself. One aging superstar thought he was behaving like a fool: In a public letter dated Sept. 9, 1990, Frank Sinatra advised Michael to "loosen up" and "swing, man."

"The tragedy of fame is when no one shows up and you're singing to the cleaning lady in some empty joint that hasn't seen a paying customer since Saint Swithin's day," Sinatra wrote.

Michael, with tailored good looks and an easy stage manner, formed the duo WHAM! with his school friend Andrew Ridgeley in the early 1980s. Helped by MTV, founded around the same time, easily crossed the Atlantic to become popular in the United States with Michael, as lead singer, usually the focal point.

He started his solo career shortly before WHAM! split, with the release of the megahit single "Careless Whisper," making a seamless transition. Critics generally viewed his WHAM! songs as catchy but disposable pop and gave his solo efforts far higher marks.

George Michael

Throughout his career, his drug use and taste for risky sex brought him into frequent brushes with the law, most famously in 1998 when he was arrested for public lewdness in Los Angeles. Yet, he managed to turn the incident into fodder for a popular song that poked fun at his behavior, and his acknowledgment of his homosexuality at that time made him even more popular with his fans.

His first solo album, 1987's "Faith," sold more 20 million copies, and he enjoyed several hit singles including the raunchy "I Want Your Sex," which was helped immeasurably by a provocative video that received wide air play on MTV.

The song was controversial not only because of its explicit nature, but also because it was seen as encouraging casual sex and promiscuity at a time when the AIDS epidemic was deepening. Michael and his management tried to tamp down this point of view by having the singer write "Explore Monogamy" on the leg and back of a model in the video.

At the time, Michael had not disclosed his homosexuality, and much of his chart success was based on his sex appeal to young women. His look was raw and provocative, with tight jeans, tight T-shirts, black leather jackets and designer stubble, and his videos pushed the accepted limits with many lingerie-clad models vying for Michael's attentions on screen.

But Michael's situation changed abruptly in 1998 when he was arrested for lewd conduct in a public toilet in Los Angeles after being spotted by a male undercover police officer.

The arrest received international media attention, and seemed for a brief time to jeopardize Michael's stature as a top recording artist.

But instead of making excuses for his behavior, he went on to release a single and video, "Outside," that made light of the charges against him and mocked the Los Angeles police who had arrested him.

Like all of his efforts at the time, it sold in prodigious numbers, helping him put the incident behind him. The arrest also prompted him to speak openly about his sexual orientation.

These years represented the height of Michael's commercial success, which at times was marred by a protracted legal dispute with his record company Sony.

He remained a strong musical force throughout his career, releasing dozens of records and touring to adoring crowds despite a growing number of run-ins with police, many of them stemming from a series of driving-under-the-influence-of-drugs incidents, including several crashes.

Michael was an acknowledged user of marijuana and prescription sedatives and several times was found slumped over his car's steering wheel after using both at the same time.

His driver's license was finally revoked for five years in 2010 after Michael drove his Land Rover into the side of a Snappy Snap photo shop with so much force that his vehicle dented the wall.

A passer-by remembering Michael's early career wrote the word WHAM on the spot his SUV had hit.

He was also arrested a second time in public toilets — this time in North London in 2008 for drug use, an incident that prompted him to apologize to his fans and promise to get his life in order.

He also offered an apology to "everybody else, just for boring them."

A year earlier, he had told a television interviewer that his problems stemmed from a self-destructive streak and his attention-seeking nature.

He said at a press conference in 2011 that he felt he had let young people down with his misbehavior and had made it easier for others to denigrate homosexuals.

Despite these personal setbacks, Michael's musical performances remained strong even as his material moved farther from the teen tunes that first brought him to stardom.

The Telegraph newspaper in 2011 described a London concert appearance as an impressive event, calling his voice, "A rich, soulful instrument, it's capable of serious emotional heft, expertly matching the confessional tone of his own material."

Michael, with strong Greek-Cypriot roots, was born Georgios Panayiotou in England. He and schoolmate Ridgeley formed a ska band called the Executive when they were just 16 before moving on to form WHAM!

460x.jpg

"I wanted to be loved," said Michael of his start in the music field. "It was an ego satisfaction thing."

Michael was active in a number of charities and helped raise money to combat AIDS, help needy children and support gay rights. He had a long-term relationship with Kenny Goss, but announced onstage in August 2011 that the two had broken up

Troy Ave was injured on Sunday, December 25, when bullets fired by an unknown assailant grazed his head and hit him in the shoulder.

The New York Daily News reports that Ave, born Roland Collins, was driving a red Maserati convertible in Brooklyn, New York around 4:20 p.m. on Christmas Day, when a gunman wearing a hoodie pulled down over his face, walked up and started shooting.

The rapper's girlfriend was in the car with him at the time, but apparently escaped injury.

“He looked to his left. He saw that the guy had a gun and was about to fire, and he started driving away,” his attorney, John Stella said. “He continued driving and he reached the point where he was bleeding pretty profusely, and apparently a good Samaritan drove him and his girl a couple of blocks the rest of the way to Brookdale.”

This is the second time within the last 7 months the BSB Records CEO has been targeted.

As we previously reported, Troy was backstage at Irving Plaza in New York City during a T.I. concert on May 25, when he was approached by someone he had beef with and a fight ensued.

As Troy reportedly attempted to wrestle a gun away from his attacker he was shot in the leg. His friend/bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, was struck by a bullet and died at the scene. Two other concert goers were also injured.

12352474282?profile=original

Based on surveillance footage that showed Troy firing a weapon inside the venue he was arrested and charged with attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

He is currently out on $500,000 bond.

Due to a lack of witnesses willing to come forward no other arrests in the incident have been made.

The rapper's attorney, Scott Leemon, issued a statement on the Christmas Day shooting.

“Tonight, Troy Ave was targeted again... on Christmas. In Brooklyn, going to meet his family for the holiday, he was shot two times. Thankfully, he will survive the second attempt on his life. As we have said from the beginning – he is a victim. We pray for his speedy recovery.”

12352475055?profile=original

Troy is currently hospitalized at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn.

Video After The Jump

MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian plane carrying 92 people to an air base in Syria crashed Sunday into the Black Sea minutes after taking off from the city of Sochi, Russia's Defense Ministry said. Thousands of rescue workers were searching the undersea crash site but there appeared to be no survivors. Those on board included dozens of members of Russia's world-famous army choir.

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known. At least one expert cited a terror attack as a possible reason — a scenario rejected by Russian officials.

In all, 84 passengers and eight crew members were on the Tu-154 plane when it disappeared from radar two minutes after taking off in good weather. Emergency crews found fragments of the plane about 1.5 kilometers (less than one mile) from shore and by Sunday afternoon, rescue teams had already recovered 10 bodies.

12352489860?profile=original

The plane belonged to the Defense Ministry and was taking the Alexandrov Ensemble to a New Year's concert at Hemeimeem air base in Syria's coastal province of Latakia. Those on board also included nine Russian journalists and a Russian doctor famous for her work in war zones. New Year's is the main holiday for most Russians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin went on television to declare Monday a nationwide day of mourning.

12352489501?profile=original

"We will conduct a thorough investigation into the reasons and will do everything to support the victims' families," Putin said.

More than 3,000 people — including dozens of divers — worked from 27 ships and several helicopters to search the crash site, according to the Defense Ministry. Drones were also flown over to help spot bodies and debris. About 100 more divers were being flown in from naval facilities across Russia, and powerful spotlights were brought in so the search could continue around the clock.

460x.jpg

Magomed Tolboyev, a decorated Russian test pilot, said the circumstances of the crash indicated that all on board had died.

"There is no chance to survive in such situation," he said, according to the Interfax news agency. "The plane gets instantly blown into pieces."

460x.jpg

The Tu-154 is a Soviet-built three-engine airliner designed in the late 1960s. More than 1,000 have been built, and they have been used extensively by carriers in Russia and worldwide. The plane that crashed was built in 1983, and underwent factory check-ups and maintenance in 2014 and earlier this year, according to the Defense Ministry.

Viktor Ozerov, head of the defense affairs committee in the upper house of the Russian parliament, said the crash could have been caused by a technical malfunction or a crew error. He said it could not have been a terror attack because the plane was operated by the Russian military.

"I totally exclude" the idea of an attack bringing down the plane, he said according to the state-run RIA Novosti news agency.

However, some experts contested Ozerov's claim, saying the crew's failure to report a malfunction pointed at a possible terror attack.

460x.jpg

"Possible malfunctions ... certainly wouldn't have prevented the crew from reporting them," Vitaly Andreyev, a former senior Russian air traffic controller, told RIA Novosti, adding that it points at an "external impact."

Russian planes have been brought down previously by terror attacks.

In October 2015, a Russian passenger plane carrying mostly Russian tourists back from vacation in Egypt was brought down by a bomb over the Sinai, killing all 224 people aboard. Officials said the explosive device was planted in the plane's luggage compartment. The local affiliate of the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.

In August 2004, two Russian planes were blown up in the skies over Russia by suicide bombers, killing 89 people. A Chechen warlord claimed responsibility for the twin attacks, which happened on the same day.

The Russian military has repeatedly flown groups of Russian singers and artists to perform at Hemeimeem, which serves as the main hub for the Russian air campaign in Syria.

The passenger list for the Sochi plane released by the Defense Ministry included 64 members of the Alexandrov Ensemble, including its leader, Valery Khalilov. The ensemble, often referred to as the Red Army choir, is the official choir of the Russian military and also includes a band and a dance company. The choir sang "Get Lucky" at the opening of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games that Russia hosted in Sochi, becoming an instant online sensation.

12352490263?profile=original

In this photo taken on Thursday, March 31, 2016, the Alexandrov Ensemble choir performs during a concert in Moscow, Russia

The damage to the choir was reported to be extensive. Viktor Yeliseyev, head of the rival choir of the Russian National Guard, said "most singers of the choir have died."

Also on board was Yelizaveta Glinka, a Russian doctor who has won wide acclaim for her charity work, which has included missions to war zones in eastern Ukraine and Syria. Her foundation said Glinka was accompanying a shipment of medicine for a hospital in Syria.

Putin presented Glinka with an award earlier this month.

"We never feel sure that we will come back alive," she said at the Kremlin award ceremony. "But we are sure that kindness, compassion and charity are stronger than any weapon."

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev described the crash as a "terrible tragedy." Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was personally coordinating the rescue efforts.

In recent years, Russian airlines have replaced their Tu-154s with more modern planes, but the military and some other government agencies in Russia have continued to use them. While noisy and fuel-guzzling by modern standards, the plane has been popular with crews that appreciate its maneuverability and ruggedness.

"It's an excellent plane, which has proven its reliability during decades of service," veteran pilot Oleg Smirnov said in televised remarks.

In April 2010, a Tu-154 carrying Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others crashed while trying to land at a sporadically used military airport in Smolensk in western Russia, killing everyone on board. Investigations by both Polish and Russian experts blamed pilot error in bad weather conditions, but Polish authorities have launched a new probe.
