Video After The Jump

In this clip from People's Party, host Talib Kweli and co-host Jasmin Leigh talk with House of Pain frontman Everlast about his mega-hit "Jump Around." Everlast shares the backstory of the song -- including the fact that Ice Cube passed on the beat. He also addresses the source of what just might be the world's most controversial sample. When Kweli remarks on the fact that the track launched around the same time as Kriss Kross's "Jump," Everlast tells the story of rushing their song onto the radio after learning that Joe Nicolo, co-founder of Ruffhouse Records, had heard the track and created a similar beat and theme for Kriss Kross.

For the deep hip-hop heads, Everlast's story of having Pete Rock on the track's remix is a must-see, as is the story of Pete's only time performing with House of Pain live.

Full episode arrives on Monday 4/20 at 9AMet/6AMpt.

Shaquille O'Neal says he's still so emotional about the death of Kobe Bryant, he will NOT watch the 2020 Hall of Fame ceremony because it will simply make him too sad.

Kobe is set to be formally inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in August -- the ultimate honor for one of the greatest players of all time.

But, Shaq admits he can't muster up the strength to watch -- mostly because he can't handle another bout of soul-crushing sadness after Kobe passed away in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26.

"Still miss him. Still think about him every day," O'Neal said on "The Big Podcast with Shaq."

Shaq says on the "scale of sadness" with 10 being the worst, he's finally at a "2" right now ... and watching the HOF ceremony "would bring me back to a 7, 8, 9 and I can't right now."

O'Neal continued, "It would be great if his wife gave a speech or his mom or dad give a speech but I'll see that afterwards. I'm not gonna watch the ceremony."

He also floated the idea of having a Kobe hologram at the ceremony -- saying it would be "nice" to have a Kobe-gram "sitting next to everyone else."

Kobe's Hall of Fame class is pretty stacked -- he'll be inducted along with Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.

Video After The Jump

In this clip, Aries Spears opens up about how he's adjusting to the quarantine, and he stated that while he loves his lady, he can't wait to get away. He went on to speak about comedians doing shows without audiences online, which he likened to a crazy person talking to themselves. Aries then admitted that he agreed to do a show without an audience but he's trying to find a way out of the deal.

Aries then shared his thoughts on Harvey Weinstein being sentenced to 23 years on rape charges, and he believes that Weinstein will not serve the full sentence because "he has the complexion for protection." Aries went on to speak about no one taking the stand for Weinstein during his trial, adding that you're "quarantined" socially when you're accused of raping women.

He then shared his thoughts on Bill Cosby and conspiracy theories about Cosby being taken down because he wanted to buy NBC. Aries said that he believes Cosby had the money to buy the network, but they wouldn't sell to him because they would have to relinquish power to a Black man. He then spoke about Cosby being hypocritical of comedians cursing in their shows, which led to an impersonation of Cosby. To hear more, including Cosby debunking stereotypes with his hit TV show.

Leading the genre with the same confidence, attitude, and swagger, Kilo M.O.E has portrayed himself as an artistically armed and musically aware hip hop artist, with his intense and rhythmically unique latest release. The 11-piece musical extravaganza has turned out to be the epitome of creative brilliance and charming musicianship. The powerful groove and the uplifting flow of the entire arrangement are sonically smooth and are offered through mesmerizing vocals of the creator. The album Fly G'z and Palm Treez is an appropriate reflection of the immense ability that the artist possesses. The album showcases the evolution of the artist from an aspiring musician to a rhythmically equipped individual. Crafted under Tha Grizz Publishing Corp, this musical collection is certainly one of the most engaging creations of the artist.

Opening up with the track 'What A Feeling', the album kicks into rhythmically enthralling vibes, along with captivating lyricism and a structurally strong arrangement. 'Doctor Shirley' takes on the charge from there on through a subtle flow and touch of synth-like riffs, backed up by the confident voice of the artist. The entire structure of the track is equally gripping and binding. The premise of the new music collection of the hip hop phenomenon gets intensified through the tracks 'Bih Pleas' and 'All On Me'. These tracks have switched the gear and added spark to the tone of the entire presentation, laden with multilayered synths and moments of angst. The widely scattered ideas play significant roles in reflecting the true intentions of the artist, which is breathtaking.

Engineered under the self-owned company of the artist, O.M.G Entertainment, inc., this is the fourth studio album of the artist and the impact is way greater compared to his previous creations. 'Walk In The Top', 'Make Em Mad', and 'Uh Oh' is truly the highlight elements of the entire collection. Kilo M.O.E has barely paused through the collection; his breathless journey throughout the development of each of the tracks reflects his determination and passion for the genre of hip hop. Considered as a timeless collection, this album is pretty easy to get drowned within, provided the structural intricacies will never let the listeners come out of the impact of the album. Every story, every word, every verse of the collection has added depth to the genre.

The track 'Elevate' literally elevates the energy around the ambiance of the project, provoking the musical senses through refreshing bars and enthralling vibes. The contrasting musicality of 'Watch What Ya Say, on the other hand, takes a new direction, making the audience groove to something new. Coming to the conclusion with 'Let Her Go' and 'Star Light', 'Fly G'z and Palm Treezadds freshness to the musical timeline and makes headlines on the hip hop news.  The lyricism will always hold tight to your attention, along with awesomeness injected through the bright soundscape and the colorful premise. The album is currently streaming on all major platforms, so go and get mesmerized through the sheer brilliance of this hip hop star.

TAMPA, Fla. -- An inmate who was released from jail due to coronavirus concerns is now back behind bars after he was charged in connection to a murder in Tampa.

Back on March 13, 26-year-old Joseph Williams was taken to Hillsborough County jail for a third-degree felony drug charge.

Just days after he was taken into custody, Williams and more than 100 other inmates were released from jail until trial on March 19 "following the issuance of Administrative Order 2020-018," according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The inmates were released in an effort to lower the risk of spreading the virus in the cells and detention facilities, deputies explained in a press release.

On Tuesday, April 14, deputies arrested Williams in connection to a Mar. 20 homicide that happened in the 8000th block of Ash Avenue in Tampa. Williams was brought back to jail and is facing a second-degree murder charge, in addition to resisting an officer with violence, felony possession of a firearm, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies said Williams' arrest history includes more than 30 charges.

"There is no question Joseph Williams took advantage of this health emergency to commit crimes while he was out of jail awaiting resolution of a low-level, non-violent offense," said Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister in a press release. "As a result, I call on the State Attorney to prosecute this defendant to the fullest extent of the law. Every murder, every violent crime, especially those involving a gun, is a sickening example of the worst in our community, especially at a time when our community is working relentlessly to fight against the spread of this deadly COVID-19."

Video After The Jump

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway criticized the World Health Organization on Wednesday morning while misleadingly quipping that COVID-19 refers to the number of times the novel coronavirus has appeared rather than the year it was discovered.

A day after President Donald Trump announced that he was ordering his administration to halt funding to WHO while accusing the organization of causing deaths by “covering up the spread of the coronavirus,” Conway appeared on the president’s favorite morning show to back Trump’s actions.

After Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy noted that the president wants to suspend payments to the WHO for apparently peddling Chinese disinformation on the virus, Conway blasted the international group for being dishonest early on about the origins of the virus.

“So this is about transparency and accountability because we have been so hard hit in this country and we were listening to the health professionals around the world,” she huffed.

The senior Trump aide went on to praise the president for taking “decisive and immediate action” by instituting a partial Chinese travel restriction in late January, attacking WHO for criticizing the move at the time while taking issue with the organization’s own actions towards the virus. (Trump’s travel ban still allowed tens of thousands of travelers to come into the U.S. from China.)

Conway then implied that there have been many other variations of this particular coronavirus, while seemingly suggesting that WHO should have been more on top of it.

“Some of the scientists and doctors say there could be other strains later on this, this could come back in the fall in a limited way,” Conway declared. “This is COVID-19, not COVID-1, folks. You would think that people charged with the World Health Organization facts and figures would be on top of that.”

One would think that a senior administration official, however, would know that the name COVID-19 doesn’t stand for the 19th version of the virus but instead the year it was discovered. The World Health Organization announced the name on February 11, noting at the time that it stands for coronavirus disease from the year 2019.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A celebrity branding company on Wednesday sued Ayesha Curry, the food and lifestyle personality and wife of NBA star Stephen Curry, seeking more than $10 million for breach of contract.

Flutie Entertainment said in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that the five years it spent with Ayesha Curry brought “significant and unprecedented results.” Those include helping Curry land a Food Network show and a hosting role on ABC’s “Great American Baking Show,” as well as producing a bestselling cookbook and launching several successful food-based businesses.

But the suit alleges that in the 11 months since terminating the relationship she has denied the company its share of proceeds from the businesses, deliberately slowed down new enterprises, took away a top employee and “essentially gutted and devalued Flutie Entertainment’s interests.”

An email seeking comment from Curry’s attorney Michael Plonsker was not immediately returned.

Flutie Entertainment’s suit says Curry had a modest following for her social media and food blog and was known primarily as the wife of the star of the NBA champion Golden State Warriors when it began working with her. The Florida-based company, founded by Robert A. Flutie, was “clearly and undeniably instrumental in helping her achieve success.”

The suit asserts that when Curry terminated the relationship in May 2019, Flutie had done major work with her developing partnerships, sponsors and legal and financial framework for Homemade, in which Curry would offer home meal kits along with other kitchen and lifestyle products, and Yardie Girl, an entertainment production company. The lawsuit alleges Curry and her co-defendants have stalled on moving forward with the projects to deny Flutie its share in them.

The suit also names as defendants six Curry-affiliated companies and a former Flutie employee who handled Curry’s business for the company but now works directly with Curry.

It seeks damages of at least $10 million and a ruling that guarantees Flutie’s stake in Homemade and Yardie Girl.

Curry, a 31-year-old native of Canada, was an actress when she married Stephen Curry in 2011, and began doing cooking demonstrations on YouTube in 2014. The couple has three kids.

"He was the basketball version of me, and I was the rap version of him, and that’s facts!"

That's Kanye West ... explaining why he and Kobe Bryant were one and the same -- LEGENDARY -- and in typical Kanye style, he's not holding back.

It's spelled out in a candid (just released) interview with GQ that went down back in February, less than a month after his good pal Kobe died in a helicopter crash very close to Kanye's Calabasas-area home.

As part of the interview, Kanye agreed to take photos on a basketball court -- and admitted, it was therapeutic.

"One thing I thought was really amazing is that we were able to find a groove with the photographs today even as out of it as I was with the loss of Kobe," Kanye said.

"We were able to just go to the court and play ball."

Kanye says he often drives on a street near the spot of the helicopter crash ... and it makes him motivated to dominate in life like his friend Kobe did.

"There’s no way for me not to be as determined as Kobe every time I drive down that street. It’s game time. There’s no move that we can’t make, or that we’ll wait to make."

Of course, Kanye and Kobe were close friends for years -- they trained together, starred in Nike commercials together ... and Kanye was even courtside for Kobe's last game.

Now, Kanye says he continues to draw motivation from Kobe -- attacking challenges in life and business with that trademark Mamba Mentality.

"Everyone in our life is now a member of the Lakers on one of Kobe’s championship teams. The way that Kobe would say that we all have to come together and win this championship is the way I look at life now."

He added, "We came up at the same time, together. And now it’s like, yeah, I might have had a reputation for screaming about things -- but I’m not taking any mess for an answer now. We’re about to build a paradigm shift for humanity. We ain’t playing with ’em. We bringing home the trophies."
