Video After The Jump

Griselda Records CEO Westside Gunn made a rare appearance on Instagram Live recently to talk about the current state of hip hop.

The Buffalo, New York native spoke about his new album, "Pray for Paris," and why it features underground artists like Roc Marciano and Boldy James.

Westside explained that when he meets with label heads he fights hard for our culture, but all they care about is album sales. Which is why he feels it's important that fans of real hip hop show their support by buying his music, as well as artists like Eto, Mach-Hommy, Estee Nack, ElCamino, Al Divino, Rome Streetz, Crimeapple, Flee Lord, Uncle John, Tha God Fahim and many others like them.

That will in turn open up album budgets and continue to push the culture forward.

He had a lot more to say so peep the video.

NEW YORK (AP) — Coronavirus is dealing a gut punch to the illegal drug trade, paralyzing economies, closing borders and severing supply chains in China that traffickers rely on for the chemicals to make such profitable drugs as methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border through which the vast majority of illegal drugs cross, the normally bustling vehicle traffic that smugglers use for cover has slowed to a trickle. Bars, nightclubs and motels across the country that are ordinarily fertile marketplaces for drug dealers have shuttered. And prices for drugs in short supply have soared to gouging levels.

“They are facing a supply problem and a demand problem,” said Alejandro Hope, a security analyst and former official with CISEN, the Mexican intelligence agency. “Once you get them to the market, who are you going to sell to?”

Virtually every illicit drug has been impacted, with supply chain disruptions at both the wholesale and retail level. Traffickers are stockpiling narcotics and cash along the border, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration even reports a decrease in money laundering and online drug sales on the so-called dark web.

“The godfathers of the cartels are scrambling,” said Phil Jordan, a former director of the DEA’s El Paso Intelligence Center.

Cocaine prices are up 20 percent or more in some cities. Heroin has become harder to find in Denver and Chicago, while supplies of fentanyl are falling in Houston and Philadelphia. In Los Angeles, the price of methamphetamine has more than doubled in recent weeks to $1,800 per pound.

“You have shortages but also some greedy bastards who see an opportunity to make more money,” said Jack Riley, the former deputy administrator of the DEA. “The bad guys frequently use situations that affect the national conscience to raise prices.”

Some landlords are taking advantage of the coronavirus outbreak, soliciting sexual favors in lieu of rent payments from economically vulnerable tenants, according to advocates.

Khara Jabola-Carolus, executive director of the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women, said her office has received more reports of landlords sexually harassing their tenants in the last two weeks than it had in the two years since she started working there, including cases of landlords offering to move in with tenants and sending sexually explicit photos to them after they communicated concerns about paying April rent.

"Landlord coercion has always been a reality, but we've never seen anything like this," Jabola-Carolus said. "The coronavirus creates the perfect conditions for landlords who want to do this because not only are people being instructed to stay home, but the virus has added to the economic stress with people losing their jobs.

Around 5 million more people filed first-time unemployment claims last week, bringing the total of unemployed Americans to nearly 22 million. While some states have enacted eviction and rent moratoriums, experts caution that these policies may not be enough to keep low- and middle- income renters in their homes. Only 69 percent of apartment tenants had paid their monthly rent by April 5, down from 81 percent the previous month.

"Landlords have all the leverage in the landlord-tenant relationship and in these types of situations, they especially prey on women who are vulnerable, who are housing insecure, have bad credit or who don't have anywhere to go," Renee Williams, a senior staff attorney at the National Housing Law Project said.

"Under the federal Fair Housing Act, sexual harassment by landlords is illegal," Sandra Park, senior staff attorney at the American Civil Liberty Union's Women's Rights Project, said. "Many states also have laws that ban sexual harassment and discrimination."

Gwinnett County Solicitor General Brian Whiteside's office announced a music producer was arrested in Gwinnett County on Thursday on a probation violation charge.

The solicitor's office said Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Lou Solis had deputies arrest Tyree Pittman, 26, who goes by the name Young Chop. Officials said Pittman allegedly violated probation on a misdemeanor animal neglect charge. Pittman is a Chicago native, but jail records list him as living in Peachtree Corners.

It was not fully clear what the probation violation entailed, but Whiteside's office said Pittman has also been recently accused of allegedly firing a handgun in a street in front of his residence, starving a dog to death, driving without a license or insurance and having an expired tag.

Gwinnett County jail records show Pittman was arrested on an aggravated cruelty to animals-death charge on Feb. 26. He was also arrested April 7 on charges of reckless conduct, driving without a valid license and expired tag/registration.

Back in October 2019, The Game was ordered to pay $7.1 million in damages to a reality dating show contestant after a jury in 2016 found him liable for sexual battery in connection with an off-camera date.

The 40-year old rapper, born Jayceon Taylor, starred on VH1's Bachelor-esque series "She's Got Game." While filming in Chicago in 2015, Taylor took Priscilla Rainey on a date to a sports bar. It wasn't filmed, and she says he sexually assaulted her by repeatedly lifting her skirt and groping her while others in the bar watched.

AllHipHop now reports that a judge has seized The Game's record label, LA Prolific, plus his last album "Born 2 Rap" and awarded "any and all rights, title, and interest" in them to Rainey.

According to the report, all future money the label is due to receive, royalties from "Born 2 Rap" and any salary Game may have been paying himself through LA Prolific, will now go directly to Rainey until the debt is paid in full.

"All third parties who receive notice of this Order are directed to pay any and all money or property due, or to become due, under this Order, directly to Plaintiff either: (1) by check payable to “Priscilla Rainey,” and delivered to Plaintiff’s counsel" until the judgment is satisfied in full," Judge Virginia A. Phillips stated.
