Several players from the Norman High School girls basketball team have broken their silence about the racist comments directed at them by a game announcer ... & they're calling for action.
It's powerful stuff.
The players have teamed up with famous civil rights attorney Ben Crump -- who has worked with the families of several high-profile victims of police or racial violence ... from Ahmaud Arbery to Breonna Taylor, George Floyd & Jacob Blake.
Crump held a news conference Monday with several of the players & their families -- who all spoke out about Matt Rowan, the announcer who hurled the n-word at the team for their decision to take a knee during the national anthem.
As we previously reported, Rowan's comments were caught on a hot mic & people at home could hear him bashing the NHS players who were demonstrating to spotlight police brutality & racial injustice.
During his rant, Rowan said he hoped the Norman team would get their asses kicked on the court that night.
Rowen later apologized for his language & said he's a Type-1 diabetic who loses his ability to censor himself when his blood sugar is high, which he claims happened that night.
FYI, the Norman High School girls basketball team went on to win the Oklahoma 6-A state championship over the weekend.
The players say they were obviously hurt & shocked by the comments -- but they're proud of the way they stood together as a team & still WON the whole tourney!
Ben Crump says there are no plans to take legal action at this time ... but continued to praise the team for thriving in such a challenging moment.

On March 11, 2020, the entertainment industry went off script. That evening marked the onset of COVID-19 and played out like a fiasco movie written by some terrible Hollywood writer. Lord Ivan provides valuable insights into the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the entertainment sector. Let’s delve.
Lord Ivan backs it up to the evening of March 11, 2020, when two major events set off shockwaves across the entertainment industry. One was the United States’ president declaring ban on European travel, and the second was actor Tom Hanks tweeting from a cinema set that he had tested positive for Coronavirus! As a result, thousands of television and film production companies came to a grinding halt.
Lord Ivan says almost one year from the onset of Coronavirus, things are still dicey. Lord Ivan shares that while many theaters, theme parks, and live entertainment spaces
remain shut as per Government guidelines, those
permitted to open are seeing little to
no footfall whatsoever..
Lord Ivan expresses that at least a disaster movie
ends with a resolution after two hours, but the
stark reality for the entertainment industry is
a rather long duration of triage. The entertainment
industry is also contemplating how the new normal
would actually be.
Lord Ivan explains, “Entertainment sector leans
heavily on constructive consumer sentiment as well
as social dynamism. So when a disruption of this
scale occurs, which forces people to stay
indoors — whether by choice or by the
norm — it is an existential challenge
for the entertainment industry.”
Lord Ivan shares yet another important insight. He says that even after people in the entertainment industry start to rehire thousands of those who have lost their jobs, the grave repercussions of COVID-19 will impact how much a consumer is willing to dole out for entertainment options like live performances and cinema.
Lord Ivan points out that while COVID-19 has brought
live entertainment avenues to a grinding halt, the
streaming arm of the entertainment industry is
witnessing a huge spike — courtesy of streaming
organizations like Netflix and Spotify coming up
with unique, innovative solutions to entertain
people during the lockdown.
Lord Ivan is a music and entertainment aficionado whose
largest performance so far has been opening a sold-out
event for the three-time Grammy award winner - Nelly.
Currently, he is working with some platinum producers
on some major upcoming releases.

NEW YORK (AP) — Half a year after his death, Chadwick Boseman was posthumously nominated for an Academy Award on Monday for his final performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
The nomination for best actor was widely expected but still historic. Boseman is the first Black performer ever nominated posthumously for an Oscar. He was nominated alongside Steven Yeun (“Minari”), Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Anthony Hopkins (“The Father”) & Gary Oldman (“Mank”).
Only 7 actors have previously been nominated after their death: Jeanne Eagels, James Dean, Spencer Tracy, Peter Finch, Ralph Richardson, Massimo Troisi and Heath Ledger. Two ultimately won: Finch for his performance in 1976′s “Network” and Ledger for 2008′s “The Dark Knight.”
Many predict Boseman will also win for a performance that’s been called the best of his life. Last month, he also won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama. Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on his behalf.
Boseman died last August of colon cancer at age 43. Three months later, the August Wilson adaptation “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was released by Netflix. Boseman plays Levee, the ambitious trumpeter whose dreams end tragically during a recording session with Ma Rainey (Viola Davis) at a white-owned record label.
Boseman also performed in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” as a U.S. soldier in the Vietnam War — a performance that has also found awards attention. Boseman was nominated posthumously by the Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performances in both “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” & his supporting turn in “Da 5 Bloods.”
After his death, none of Boseman’s collaborators on either film said they knew he was ailing. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2016.
It’s Boseman’s first Oscar nomination.

After months of arduous negotiations between competing promoters and rival champions, the contract for a two-fight deal between Tyson Fury & Anthony Joshua to unify the heavyweight titles has been finally signed.
"We'd like to get a site deal confirmed in the next month," said Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport, Joshua's promoter. "The hard part is always getting everybody to put pen to paper. But this was a major effort from all parties to get this over the line. You had rival promoters, rival networks & rival fighters."
Not to mention, rival egos, always a factor in boxing. The final signature came Saturday, in a Provision of Services agreement whose signees are believed to include Fury & Joshua; Joshua's promoter, Matchroom Boxing; Fury's American promoter, Top Rank; Fury's English promoter, Queensbury; & Fury's management company, Dubai-based MTK.
With the terms of the deal now agreed, principals can solicit offers from prospective sites.
"I actually feel we've done the hard part," said Hearn. "Speaking for myself, Anthony & his team at 258 management, I know how hard we've worked hard these last couple of months & I just feel that this fight is so big it's not a difficult sell. We've already had approaches from eight or nine sites. The offers have come from multiple countries in the Middle East, from Asia, eastern Europe & America."
"This is the biggest fight in boxing & one of the biggest sporting events in the world," Hearn said. "It will be a major, major win for a country that wants to showcase itself."

(CNN) All hail Queen Bey!
Beyoncé went into the Grammys Sunday with nine nominations, the most of any artist for the night.
And oh what a night it was for her.
By the time it ended, she had broken the record for the most Grammys won by a woman and any singer, male or female, with 28 -- also tying the record with music impresario Quincy Jones as the living person with the most Grammys.
Queen Bey surpassed bluegrass-country singer Alison Krauss who previously held the record with 27.
The winning streak started before the televised ceremony when Beyoncé and her 9-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter won the award for best music video award for the single, "Brown Skin Girl."
Beyoncé and fellow Houston native Megan Thee Stallion also made history as the first pair of women to ever win best rap performance with the remix of Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage." The pair then went on to win for best rap song for the same tune.
But it Beyoncé's win for best R & B performance for "Black Parade" that put her over the top.
She said she was overwhelmed by breaking the record.
"I've been working my whole life, since 9 years old, and I can't believe this happened," she said.
The Grammy telecast included a brief salute to Beyoncé's ground-breaking visual album, "Black Is King."
