ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - A murder investigation is hitting close to home for St. Louis rap star, Nelly. Multiple sources close to Nelly tell News 11 the victim was one of Nelly's bodyguards. The victim is 36 year old Michale Johnson sources describe him as Nelly's left hand man, or someone who was by the rapper's side providing security.
St. Louis county police responded to a home on Nola, near north Hanley Wednesday night just before midnight. Johnson was shot several times.
Police say he was either walking in or walking out of the home when someone opened fire. They're not sure if Johnson was targeted or if he interrupted a burglar who then shot him.
Police say they are retracing the victim's steps from the previous 24 hours to try and find out where he was, and what a possible motive might be.
No one has been arrested at this point.
Thursday afternoon Nelly didn't want to talk about Johnson's murder. The rap start was busy giving out scholarships at Lindenwood University. Two high school students received full tuition scholarships. This is the second year Nelly has made such a donation to the school.
Ciara and Paris Hilton seemed to really be enjoying each other's company while Timbo dj'd playing some of his biggest records.
Ray-J and sister Brandy who's new album is being produced by Timbaland joined the party, as did Interscope Records big wig Jimmy Iovine..

Drake's breakout mixtape, So Far Gone, set the bar pretty high for his upcoming debut album, Thank Me Later. His first offering, "Over," was intensely debated, but DJs co-signed the single almost immediately.
One critic, however, wasn't as quick to deliver praise. According to Drake, Jay-Z had to warm up to the record.
"I got a funny e-mail today from Jay-Z about ['Over']," Drake said during a conference call for DJs.
The Toronto lyricist said Jay offered an analogy to describe the way the track grew on him. He compared the song to "the girl you see at the club, she's not the cutest," Drake explained. "But then you speak to her and realize that she's one of the sexiest women of all time."
Drake premiered his follow-up to "Over" early Thursday morning (April 29), the Kanye West-produced "Find Your Love." He recently shot a video for the track in Jamaica, and images from the set have leaked online. Two other Thank Me Later tracks, "Fireworks" and "Shut It Down" (featuring The-Dream), have sprung up online.
Drake also revealed during the call that he might have a bonus track on his debut album featuring Lupe Fiasco and upstart MC J. Cole. "I think that would be a special moment for hip-hop fans," he said, before adding a joke. "For people that are disappointed when I drop songs like 'Find Your Love,' I think they would appreciate that. Hopefully they're both willing."

Executive Decisions: Sha Money XL
Queens is in the building — again. Sha Money XL has signed on to become the senior VP of A&R at Def Jam Records. The label has had such a rich history of Queens-bred fellas in the boardroom, from its founder Russell Simmons to Irv Gotti to one of Sha's mentors, the late Jam Master Jay. XL is excited to plant his flag in the cherished hip-hop recording house.
Nothing in all of sports beats a great boxing match. It's the ultimate challenge, two men matching their skills and wits. Where one mistake can leave one of them staring up at the ring lights wondering what the hell just happened.
Tomorrow (May 1) in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Sugar Shane Mosley meet in a match that will determine who is the best fighter in the world today not named Manny Pacquiao.
Both fighters have already made history by agreeing to Olympic Style drug testing leading up to the fight.
"I brought USADA in to keep the sport on an even playing field. Everyone knows this is done for the betterment of the sport," says Mayweather. "After I get blood taken, I'll go in and box 12 or 13 rounds, no problem whatsoever."
Floyd will make a reported $40 million while Shane will take home $7 million for a fight that's expected to shatter all previous Pay-Per-View records.
Both fighters are confident going into the match. Floyd is the clear favorite and sees Shane as "just another victim", but that doesn't bother Shane at all.
"At this point it doesn't even bother me," he said. "They were picking (Antonio) Margarito to win, too, by a landslide, and people were talking about my health, that he was going to retire me.
"I'm telling you guys, (Mayweather's) not going to beat me."
All the talking is done now. As Michael Buffer would say, "Let's get ready to rumble!"

It's that time again; time for Time Magazine to release their Time 100 list of the people they felt most influenced the world. The list is split up into four major categories: Leaders, Heroes, Artists and Thinkers. Of course, since we're pop culturally aware here at Hollywood Crush, Time's list of the 25 most influential artists caught our eye, and we think you might be a little bit surprised by some of the results.
What is unsurprising is that Lady Gaga took the top spot. The pop singer has had an extraordinary year; winning Grammy's, rocking the Billboard charts and revolutionizing the music industry. Cyndi Lauper said about Gaga in the article, "Most of the stuff on the radio is not very clever, but Gaga presents her ideas in a sophisticated manner. She has an incredible pop sensibility." We agree, and wouldn't be surprised if 10 years down the road Gaga is labeled one of the most influential people of the decade.
Those rounding out the top five also aren't very big surprises: Conan O'Brien (who probably wouldn't have made the list if he wasn't booted from "The Tonight Show" and hadn't rallied accordingly), Kathryn Bigalow (the first female director to win an Oscar), Oprah Winfrey (duh) and Valery Gergiev (an influential Russian conductor and opera director).
But then, plopped in squarely at #6, is our boy Robert Pattinson. "Influential" seems to be an understatement when used to describe the whirlwind hysteria "Twilight" has had on the world, with Rob unintentionally stuck in its center (unsurprisingly, People mag also acknowledged his prettiness this week as well).
"New Moon" director Chris Weitz spoke in Rob's honor to Time, saying, "So how to write about someone who seems to answer Freud's rhetorical question, What do women want? Perhaps it's just worth pointing out that it'd be fun to have a beer with him even if he weren't Edward Cullen. That we haven't seen a tenth of what he can do onscreen. And that important things, beyond the veil of Hollywood, occupy his time too music, conversation, ideas, a sense of the absurd. Which, maybe, explains why he never gets to my e-mails. I love you, Rob! Call me!"
Taylor Swift also got a nod at #9, thanks to winning some major Grammy's and also having her film debut (yes, in "Valentine's Day"). Stevie Nicks, who performed opposite her at the Oscars, compared her to Neil Diamond and Elton John, and said, "The female rock-'n'-roll-country-pop songwriter is back, and her name is Taylor Swift. And it's women like her who are going to save the music business."
Another surprise was Lea Michele being included in the list at number 13, though with the breakout success of "Glee" this past year — and Lea being front and center in its success — it shouldn't have been too much of a shock. Not only is she someone who is inspiring thousands across the States to follow their artistically-oriented dreams, but she also is someone we love to love, and see loved by other sites as well.
Rounding out the list is Sandra Bullock at number 22, and while we agree with the decision to include her, we're almost a little sad to see her this honor in light of everything that happened recently to help her deserve it.
She won her first Oscar, yes, had the most successful film of her career this summer and secretly adopted a baby, but also won a Razzie and ditched her husband — who turned out to be a real scumbag — in the process. While 2010 will always be known as the year Sandy had her comeback, we really feel bad that it had to go so poorly for her as well.

Singer Erykah Badu plead not guilty yesterday (April 28) to the charge of disorderly conduct in Dallas. The charge stems from a complaint being filed after she stripped naked in Dealey Plaza while shooting the video for her song "Window Seat".
In the video Badu is seen walking along the street in broad daylight, taking off her clothes as onlookers gawk.
The incident has led Dallas officials to call for tougher penalties such as a hefty fine, for people who produce a film for profit in the city without the proper permits.
Badu said she was looking to create dialogue with the controversial video.
"I expected it to provoke dialogue, and it's an important statement to make. It's about freeing oneself of the layers and layers of things that we have learned as Americans in this country," Badu said in a recent interview. "At the point of becoming naked and individual and free, either you're assassinated spiritually or mentally by the group or worse."

(AllHipHop News) Supporters of deceased rapper Guru have launched a website dedicated to documenting the downfall of producer Solar.
Solar is under intense scrutiny for a series of letters released allegedly penned by Guru before he died of cancer on April 19th.
The website features a number of interviews with Guru and Solar that highlight the pair’s strained relationship, in addition to investigating Solar’s past.
More accusations are hurled Solar’s way via the website, which appears to be registered to a party in Berlin, Germany.
The website claims that Solar helped separate Guru from his friends, controlled Guru’s interviews and even chose what females were right for Guru.
In an interview with MTV.com, Patricia Elam expressed her discomfort in trusting Solar with overseeing Guru’s health.
“When [Guru] started working with Solar, even up until the time he was in the hospital and we learned Solar was the health care proxy, my father and my [older] brother were still sort of like, ‘This is what your brother wanted. We’re kinda gonna go along with it,’ ” Patricia said. “They were pretty trusting of Solar. [Solar] was feeding them the information he wanted them to have. I was always hesitant and a little more cynical. I never had the right feeling about him. I think he knew that.”
In related news, it appears as though Solar is removing hateful comments from his official Blog, after he posted an interview with MTV, in which he expresses his frustration with DJ Premier.
A number of posts have been removed in the past 24 hours, leaving Solar’s screen completely filled “message removed by administrator” messages.
“I haven’t spoken to Premier since all the way back when they did The Ownerz (2003). We haven’t’ spoken. He hasn’t reached out to me and I haven’t had the opportunity to reach out to him. What it’s been more or less is there’s been a lot of frustration on Guru’s part, for various reasons once 7 Grand was started, certain aspects of Gangstarr kept hanging on to him. He felt like it was dragging him down from getting to where he wanted to get. It was a source of frustration for him and myself as well, I felt the tension too.”
