Ice Cube is teaming up with Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster in the new film Rampart.

The film, which is centered around the scandals that took place in the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1990s, showcases police misconducts in the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang program including unprovoked shootings, beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury and covering up evidence.

Ice Cube is set to play a LAPD officer alongside Foster, who are colleagues with Harrelson's character, an LAPD officer on a redemptive journey who finds himself embroiled in scandal.

The LAPD, which has widely been criticized for the mishandling of the murder cases of the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, have denied allegations that they have ever hired criminals to work as officers in the division.

But according to retired robbery-homicide detective Russell Poole in the critically acclaimed book “Labyrinth”, the police knowingly hired gang members David Mack and Rafael Pérez who were well known throughout the Blood community.

According to the book "Labyrinth", Mack and Pérez were also employed by former Death Row CEO Suge Knight, along with other police officers from the Rampart division, to serve as security at various Death Row events. Poole also states that the officers witnessed and participated in illegal activities while working events.

Mack, who was suspected to have played a role in the murder of Notorious B.I.G., was later arrested for bank robbery, while still employed as an LAPD officer.

Adding to the scandal was the shooting death of corrupt LAPD officer Kevin Gaines by fellow officer and undercover detective Frank Lyga in 1997. The shooting, which was ruled self-defense, uncovered evidence of Officer Gaines's corrupt behavior.

According to reports, Gaines filed a bogus claim against the city of Los Angeles for “mistreatment” against him during an arrest while he was off duty. After the ruling in Gaines favor, it was later discovered that the suit was filed to secure his officer pension. Police also state adding to growing suspicion was the fact that Gaines was dating and living with Suge Knights ex-wife and the then manager of Snoop Dogg, Sharitha Knight.

According to published police files, Poole, who was assigned to investigate the Lyga-Gaines shooting, recovered evidence that Gaines's lifestyle did not match the $55,000 a year salary he was paid as an LAPD officer.

The published reports show that at the time, Gaines drove a Mercedes and wore designer suits. Detectives also found nine credit cards as well as a receipt for a $952 restaurant tab at Monty's Steakhouse, a Westwood hangout for members of Death Row Records.

At the time, Death Row Records was under investigation by the FBI since 1993 for its strong ties to Compton's Mob Piru Bloods gang.

Rampart, a film based on James Ellroy's screenplay, has been developed at Light stream Pictures is slated to be released sometime in 2011.

The controversial new immigration law in Arizona is has angered many people. Count revered rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy as one of them.

He's released a new song "Tear Down That Wall" expressing his opinion about it.

He and his wife Dr Gaye Theresa Johnson Professor Of Black Studies and Chicano Studies UC Santa Barbara have also issued a joint statement:

Jan Brewer’s decision to sign the Arizona immigration bill into law is racist, deceitful, and reflects some of the most mean-spirited politics against immigrants that the country has ever seen. The power that this law gives to police, to detain people that they suspect to be undocumented, brings racial profiling to a new low. Brewer’s actions and those of Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, the Arizona State Senate are despicable, inexcusable, and endorse the all-out hate campaign that Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, and others have perpetrated upon immigrants for years. The people of Arizona who voted for this bill, as well as those who crafted it, demonstrate no regard for the humanity or contributions of Latino people. And for all of those who have chosen not to speak up, shame on you for silently endorsing this legislated hate.

In 1991 I wrote a song criticizing Arizona officials (including John McCain and Fife Symington) for rejecting the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The same politics I wrote about in “By the Time I Get to Arizona” are alive and well in Arizona today, but this time the target is Brown people.

These actions must stop. I am issuing a call to action, urging my fellow musicians, artists, athletes, performers, and production companies to refuse to work in Arizona until officials not only overturn this bill, but recognize the human rights of immigrants. This should include the NBA playoffs, revisiting the actions of the NFL in 1993, when they moved the Superbowl to Pasadena in protest against Arizona’s refusal to recognize Dr. King. We all need to speak up in defense of our brothers and sisters being victimized in Arizona, because things are only getting worse. What they’re doing to immigrants is appalling, but it will be even more damning if we remain silent.”

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County's top lawman says he has no intention of enforcing Arizona's controversial crackdown on illegal immigration. Sheriff Clarence Dupnik calls SB 1070 "racist," "disgusting," and "unnecessary."

Speaking Tuesday morning with KGUN9's Steve Nunez, Dupnik made it clear that while he will not comply with the provisions of the new law, nor will he let illegal immigrants go free. "We're going to keep doing what we've been doing all along," Dupnik said. "We're going to stop and detain these people for the Border Patrol."

The sheriff acknowledged that this course of action could get him hauled into court. SB 1070 allows citizens to sue any law enforcement official who doesn't comply with the law. But Dupnik told Nunez that SB 1070 would force his deputies to adopt racial profiling as an enforcement tactic, which Dupnik says could also get him sued. "So we're kind of in a damned if we do, damned if we don't situation. It's just a stupid law."

Dupnik had harsh words for anyone who thinks SB 1070 will not lead to racial profiling. "If I tell my people to go out and look for A, B, and C, they're going to do it. They'll find some flimsy excuse like a tail light that's not working as a basis for a stop, which is a bunch of baloney."

But if Dupnik feels the law is stupid, its sponsor, State Senator Russell Pearce of Mesa, has the same label for Dupnik. In an e-mail exchange with KGUN9 News, Pearce characterized Dupnik's comments as "the stupidest statement... someone who takes an oath to enforce the law has ever made."

Pearce insisted that SB 1070 prohibits racial profiling. He repeated a phrase he's used in the past, writing, "Illegal is a not a race, it is a crime." And he added, "I guess the 9 Sheriffs who support this bill are racist."

SB 1070 criminalizes illegal immigration. But it will be up to county attorneys to prosecute complaints. That raises an obvious question: will Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall also refuse to comply with the law? If she joins Dupnik's rebellion, then SB 1070 would be effectively DOA in Pima County.

In answer to that question Tuesday afternoon, LaWall told KGUN9 News that it's too early to tell. LaWall said her position will depend on standards yet to be developed to determine what constitutes "reasonable suspicion" in asking someone for their papers.

SB 1070 is in fact silent on the issue of racial profiling in determining the circumstances under how and when police can stop someone and demand proof of citizenship. When she signed the immigration measure into law on Friday, Governor Jan Brewer also signed an executive order to go with the law. That order requires such standards to be drawn up and for local law enforcement officers to receive training on them. The executive order does not specify what those standards should be, and does not specifically address the issue of racial profiling. But in signing the bill and issuing the order, Brewer stated that she is determined to prevent racial discrimination.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Paul Senseman, spokesman for Governor Jan Brewer, sent KGUN9 this statement in response to a query about Dupnik's stance: "Since the new Arizona law simply regulates immigration the same way that federal law and federal authorities currently regulate, it seems misguided to be angry or react negatively about this bill. Racial profiling is specifically written in the state law to be illegal. No additional documents are needed for anyone in Arizona, other than what federal law currently requires."

The fact that the governor's office was able to get back to KGUN9 News on Tuesday with a response is remarkable, in light of the volume of calls that are pouring in. An office assistant told KGUN9 earlier Tuesday afternoon that over the past five days, the office has received 160,000 phone calls, and is having a hard time keeping up.

KGUN9 has also received very heavy viewer traffic on this issue, although not at that kind of level. E-mails and web postings continue to heavily favor implementation of the law. By viewer request, KGUN9.com is running another "Question of the Day" web poll on this issue. Viewers can find that poll on the KGUN9.com home page, about halfway down on the right, and may cast votes through midnight on Tuesday.

A former Rikers guard says she was canned after a bad rap - a claim she tried to sneak a peek at Lil Wayne in lockup.

Amelia Negron, who is preparing a federal suit against the city, said union higherups forced her to falsely confess she was trying to star-gawk.

"I don't even like rap," said Negron, 33.

"I like rock and alternative music and didn't know much about him when they said I tried to see him. None of it's true."

What really happened March 10 is that she popped her head into the unit where the performer was being held to see a colleague, Negron said.

"The door to the area was unlocked, and so I went in to say hello, and that officer said, 'Hey, you can't be here. We've got a celeb here.' I said, 'Okay, no problem,' turned around and left," Negron said.

She said that, after the short exchange, her superiors claimed she was trying to cozy up to Weezy.

"We did nothing wrong, but we were threatened with criminal charges, transfers, suspensions," she said.

Correction Officers' Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook told her he would take care of things if she just admitted she was spying on the "Lollipop" singer, Negron claimed.

Seabrook said that's a lie.

"I wasn't the one who went into an unauthorized area. That wasn't me; that was her," he said. "The only reason I got involved is because they were going to suspend her."

On April 19, the city Department of Correction fired Negron, claiming she had missed too many days of work.

Negron, who was hired in 2008, contends the missed days were for an injury she suffered at the firing range, when she was struck in the hand and chest by another officer's gunfire.

"I was injured, eventually had to have surgery on my left hand, and they knew that all along," she said.

But sources said Negron violated sick leave policy four times and had been out for 91 days during her short tenure.

Negron plans to file a federal suit, claiming she was the victim of discrimination and harassment.

A Correction Department spokesman noted Negron was a probationary employee and said her firing was "entirely appropriate."

Gucci Mane (Radric Davis), his booking agent Johnnie Cabbell (Hitt Afta Hitt Entertainment), and Debra Antney (So Icey Entertainment CEO) are facing another lawsuit over alleged concert no-shows.

The latest lawsuit was filed in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania by William Marshall (Marshall Productions) and Derrick Brown (Rockstar Entertainment). The two parties allege that Gucci’s representatives took two deposits of $13, 750.00 to book him for concerts in Pittsburgh last August that were never completed.

At the time, Gucci Mane was restricted from leaving the state of Georgia due to parole violations from a 2005 felony assault, which eventually resulted in him being sent back to prison for 12 months on November 12.

According to the lawsuit, Marshall and Brown claim “the defendants' engaged in a widespread scheme scheduling concerts they knew would not take place, including the concerts involving plaintiffs that are the subject of this complaint.”

Last year, Gucci Mane’s camp was the subject of intense media scrutiny regarding similar claims from other promoters in a 10-page investigative article by Ozone magazine founder Julia Beverly.

I am fully aware of the recent allegations which have been made about me and my company Hitt Afta Hitt Entertainment (HAH). I am a licensed and bonded entertainment booker and have been operating my company successfully for almost a decade,” Johnnie Cabbell told AllHipHop.com last December. “During my career, I have booked thousands upon thousands of shows and have worked with various promoters all over the country. I have maintained an impeccable track record and am operating within the confines of all applicable laws. I’ve always strived to do the best job I can possibly do and will continue to do that.”

The plaintiffs are seeking over $25,000 in damages.

At press time, a court date has not been set.

(AllHipHop News) Solar's ex-girlfriend and former 7 Grand Records employee Tasha Denham has lashed out at Solar over his alleged abusive treatment towards Guru.

Denham explained her claims in an extensive interview with HipHopDx.com.

"There was one night we were at Guru's house," Denham said of an altercation between Guru and Solar.

"I was about three months pregnant at the time. Guru kept defending himself. Guru actually stood up and kind of got in Solar's face about it" Denham stated. "Next thing I know, Solar punched him in the face. From that point in time, he just started kicking him and hitting him."

"Guru was fighting back, he wasn't just sitting there being a punk, but at the same time, Guru had severe asthma. He didn't have his inhaler. He started really hyper-ventalating and really having a hard time, and Solar kept beating him. It wasn't a fight anymore, it was beating him. I felt that it was so bad that I got in between the two of them and broke it up, because I knew he wouldn't hit me of course. At that point in time, I was pregnant with his child....that's probably one of the first times I was like, 'Wow, this relationship is really unhealthy. It's a really sick relationship.' After that, if I didn't physically see it myself...I saw [Guru] punched in the face numerous times with no provocation. It [would just be] that he'd get upset with something Guru would say and punch him in the face. I know he knocked a tooth out of Guru's. I know he gave him a black eye [so Guru would] have to wear glasses for photo-shoots and concerts."

Additionally, Denham says that Solar stopped Guru from connecting with his loved ones, family members and friends. He allegedly would even take Guru's cell phone from him as well.

As previously reported, the family of deceased rapper Guru have announced plans to hold a public memorial in his honor.

Guru, born Keith Elam, died of cancer at the age of 43, on April 19th.

According to reports, the rapper was cremated shortly after the family came in possession of his body.

Plans for a memorial are being planned for July 17th, Guru's birthday, according to Guru's sister, Patricia Elam.

According to Patricia, the family is also planning to launch a website that honors Guru's legacy, while posting official information surrounding the emcee.

Meanwhile the family continues to criticize Guru's former partner Solar of mishandling the release off information surrounding Guru's health condition.

In a recent interview with MTV, Patricia said that Guru's nephew Justin heard about his uncle's health via the Internet, while Guru's nine-year-old son learned of his father's death over the radio, while riding in a car.

"[My son] Justin found out on the Internet and called me. I had to call my dad," Patricia told MTV News. "[Keith's 9-year-old son] KC found out riding in the car, hearing it on the radio. That's not right if you care about someone. That's not how you treat them. My brother would never have wanted us to find out that way. Never in a million years. Especially his son. Come on, now."

Patricia said that the body was released to Solar, who was acting as Guru's healthcare proxy.

Patricia labeled the experience a "nightmare" and revealed that Guru's brother had to call various funeral homes in search of the rapper's body.

"My son Justin was looking online and saw something that the body was going to be cremated," Patricia continued. "My father was calling the hospital looking for the body and they were like, 'We released it to the health-care proxy.' Luckily my other brother happened to be in New York on something unrelated and he started calling funeral homes in the area, if you can imagine. Fortunately the third one he called was the right one. He said, 'Listen, I'm the brother of Keith Elam, do not release that body to anyone but me.' Thankfully he was able to get there in time."

M.I.A. has made the unusual step of asking fans to name her forthcoming third album. On Monday, April 26, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter/rapper posted the following message on Twitter, "MIA TRACKLIST FOR LP COMING JUNE "YET UNTITLED" OPEN TO SUGGESTION AT @_M_I_A_ #miap4k," alongside a picture of the tracklisting.

The follow-up to 2007's 'Kala' is produced by dubstep whizzkid Rusko and already sounds like it will be as genre-busting and unconventional as her previous offerings -- the pair recorded the heartbeat of M.I.A.'s one-year-old son for one track.

Speaking to BBC 6Music backstage at the Coachella festival earlier this month, Rusko said. "It sounds like a rock band trying to play dubstep songs. The whole idea of the record was to freak people out. It's crazy. It's like mad distorted and hectic." He went on to say they considered calling the album 'Complications' on account of the convoluted recording process, before deciding to throw the title open to fans.

Meanwhile, M.I.A. has caused controversy with the video for new track 'Born Free', posted on her official website on April 25. Directed by controversial French film maker Romain Gavras -- who made the 2008 Justice tour documentary 'A Cross the Universe' -- the nine-minute-long film features images of law enforcement officers wearing American flags beating, arresting and brutally executing people with red hair, presumably a metaphor for oppressed minorities. It has been banned from Youtube, but is still available on BooBooTV.

Pop star Shakira is expected to lend her celebrity to the fight against Arizona's new immigration law.

Sources said Tuesday the Latina entertainer, perhaps best known for her hit song "Hips Don't Lie," is scheduled to meet with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and other city officials at 3 p.m. Thursday at City Hall to discuss the law.

Vice Mayor Michael Nowakowski, the council's only Hispanic, said he will then escort Shakira to various sites around Phoenix to meet with children and families who could be impacted by the law, which makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally.

Finally, Shakira, a Colombia native, will visit the state Capitol, where protesters have been camped out since Gov. Jan Brewer signed the legislation into law on Friday.

"Shakira supports the mayor and likes his message about the bill," said Gordon Chief of Staff Debra Stark, who has been arranging the visit.
