Social media personality Lil Tay is very much still alive -- claiming her Instagram account was compromised & used to spread "jarring misinformation" about her & her brother's death.
In a statement provided to TMZ from Tay's family, she tells TMZ, "I want to make it clear that my brother & I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken & struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking & tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess."
She also says, "My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party & used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not "Claire Hope"."
What's still unclear is why it took Tay 24 hours to get word out she's alive, especially because she says she was aware her account was hacked & was getting phone calls about her "death."
On Wednesday, TMZ contacted police in the Vancouver area as well as family members who were totally in the dark & knew nothing of her passing. Now we know why.
Tay's fake death was announced Wednesday morning on her Instagram ... the statement said her "sudden & tragic passing" is an "unbearable loss,"
The statement also claimed her brother died, "Her brother's passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief."
Lil Tay got her fame as the "World's Youngest Flexer" that rapped & showed off a lavish lifestyle across social media. She's garnered 3.2 million followers on Instagram, but hadn't posted on the account since 2018.
You'll recall, Tay was caught in the middle of a nasty custody battle between her parents, Angela Tian & Christopher Hope -- one we were told had been going on in court since 2018.

Lil Tay, a teen rapper who became famous on social media, has died at the age of 14, according to her representatives.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing," they posted on Instagram.
"We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain" the statement continued "This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock."
The Instagram post also revealed that the rapper's brother, 21-year old brother Jason Tian also passed.
"Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief," the post read. "During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss, as the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation."
Causes of death for Lil Tay and her brother have not been revealed.
According to the New York Post, the rapper's name is Claire Eileen Qi Hope of Canada.
The outlet reported that she rose to fame at 9 years old in 2017 after "sharing spoof clips of herself holding wads of cash to her ear."

On May 21, 2023, around 6:17 PM, Patrolman Robert Alvator of the Highlands Police Department observed a 2009 Dodge Caliber driving erratically. He stopped the vehicle and found the driver, 20-year-old Karina Armando, had been drinking. Karina failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence. Olivia Morrow, the passenger, interfered but was allowed to leave. Karina refused the breathalyzer test and received multiple summonses.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVM13) — One person turned themselves in and two others have warrants for their arrest after a brawl in Montgomery over the weekend.
Montgomery police said as the captain of the boat "Harriet" was trying to dock in its assigned space when a private boat was taking up its area. The Harriet waited for 45 minutes to dock and tried to reach out to the crew of the private boat, but was met with obscene gestures and cursing.
The co-captain of the Harriet crossed the river on a smaller vessel and tried to speak with the group on the dock when the brawl took place, according to police.
The co-captain and a person who was a crew member of the smaller vessel were assaulted during the brawl, police said.
Thirteen people were taken into custody and then released. As videos were sent in, three people had warrants put out for their arrest.
Richard Roberts, 48; Zachary Shipman, 25; and Allen Todd, 23 have warrants out for assault. One of the three turned themselves in and the others are expected to turn themselves in shortly, police said.
The victims in the assaults were identified as Damien Pickett, the co-captain of the riverboat, and a 16-year White male.
Police also asked that a Black man who was seen in video swinging a folding chair to contact them for further questioning.
