CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A boy who disappeared from his Cheatham County home last year, leading to a statewide AMBER Alert, ran away to flee the abuse inflicted on him by his adoptive mother and her biological son, according to investigators.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released the information Wednesday evening following the arrests of Coletta Gorman and Alvin Jensen earlier in the day.

Coletta Gorman is the adoptive mother of Jordan Gorman, the 9-year-old boy reported missing in November 2020 and found safe days later after building a shelter in a creek bed.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation had issued an Endangered Child Alert for Jordan on Nov. 15, 2020, then issued an AMBER Alert for him the following day.

Search teams combed through a heavily-wooded area around the family’s home and located Jordan safe in a creek bed on Nov. 17. The boy said he found a tarp and built himself a shelter nearly one mile from his home.

During the investigation that followed, TBI agents said they determined the Gorman and Jensen mistreated Gorman’s adopted children, leading Jordan to leave home to flee the abuse.

A Cheatham County grand jury returned indictments Wednesday, charging Gorman with six counts of aggravated child abuse, neglect and endangerment. The indictments also charged Jensen with one count of the same offense.

Gorman and Jensen were arrested by Cheatham County deputies. Gorman was jailed on a $550,000 bond, while Jensen was held on a $100,000 bond.

News 2 was the only crew at the Cheatham County jail as Gorman turned herself in. She tried to hide her face from our cameras and had no comment.

Jensen told News 2 cameras, “I don’t really know what’s going on,” as deputies brought him in wearing handcuffs.

Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove said the allegations are something only someone evil could do, the worst he’s seen in his career.

“There was quite a bit of evidence that there was quite a bit of physical abuse occurring in the household over a period of time…that was one of these cases had such a happy ending. We were able to locate and bring him back, but with that it opened up whole another level of investigation,” the sheriff told News 2.

The sheriff said there is no evidence that Gorman’s husband played a role in the allegations.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday is toughening COVID-19 vaccine requirements for federal workers and contractors as he aims to boost vaccinations and curb the surging delta variant that is killing thousands each week and jeopardizing the nation’s economic recovery.

Just weeks after he mandated federal workers get a shot or face rigorous testing and masking protocols, Biden will sign a new executive order to require vaccination for employees of the executive branch and contractors who do business with the federal government, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The word comes ahead of the president’s speech Thursday afternoon outlining a six-pronged plan to address the latest rise in coronavirus cases and the stagnating pace of COVID-19 shots.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Biden’s order includes exceptions for workers or contractors seeking religious or medical exemptions from vaccination. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss Biden’s plans before they were publicly released.

Biden is also expected to outline plans to increase virus testing in schools, in an effort to keep them open safely, amid other measures to show that his administration is working to tackle the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, which Biden has blamed for last month’s weaker-than-expected jobs report. He’s warned the surge could further imperil the nation’s economy as some pandemic safety net protections expire.

Biden has encouraged COVID-19 vaccine requirements in settings like schools, workplaces and university campuses, and the White House hopes the strengthened federal mandate will inspire more businesses to follow suit.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Health and Human Services, the Indian Health Service, and the National Institute of Health have previously announced vaccine requirements for much of their staffs, and the Pentagon moved last month to require all servicemembers to get vaccinated.

More than 208 million Americans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 177 million are fully vaccinated, but confirmed cases of the virus have shot up in recent weeks to an average of about 140,000 per day with on average about 1,000 Americans dying from the virus daily, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Most of the spread — and the vast majority of severe illness and death — is occurring among those not yet fully vaccinated against the virus. So-called breakthrough infections in vaccinated people occur, but tend to be far less dangerous.

Federal officials are moving ahead with plans to begin administering booster shots of the mRNA vaccines to bolster protection against the more transmissible delta variant of the virus. Last month Biden announced plans to make them available beginning on Sept. 20, but only the Pfizer vaccine will likely have received regulatory approval for a third dose by that time. Federal regulators are seeking additional data from Moderna that will likely delay its booster approval until October.

Officials are aiming to administer the booster shots about eight months after the second dose of the two-dose vaccines.

Akon is mourning the loss of his good friend Michael K. Williams, and says he's the latest example of how the "facade of success" can send celebrities into a tailspin.

We got the artist Tuesday at Petrossian in L.A., and he said although he was close to Michael, they hadn't seen each other since the pandemic.

Akon has an interesting take, saying the rich and famous go through more issues than the poor. As he says, "More money, more problems."

He also talks about how the pandemic has masked real mental health struggles ... literally with masks that hide emotions.

Akon feels strongly, drugs and alcohol never solve difficult issues ... they send people down a dark path that, in Michael's case, ends in tragedy.

As you know, Michael died over the weekend of an apparent drug overdose. Police believe it might have been heroin-related, and they've launched an investigation to determine who may have provided him with the drugs.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (WFLA) — Deputies in Pinellas County had plenty on their hands Sunday morning while they tried to diffuse a standoff with an armed teenager on a rooftop.

According to an arrest affidavit, a naked woman who had nothing to do with the situation made things even harder when she decided to drive a golf cart into the crime scene in Dunedin.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office says it set up a perimeter outside a home on Michigan Boulevard near Madeira Avenue Sunday after 18-year-old Myles Abbott fled deputies, climbed onto the roof of a home and pointed a gun at them. That started a standoff that would last around six hours.

According to the affidavit, 28-year-old Jessica Elisabeth Smith of Boston, Massachusetts, drove a golf cart by several marked sheriff’s office vehicles that were at the scene and ignored a deputy’s commands to leave as she approached the house where the armed teenager was on the roof.

The affidavit says her “actions and inability to follow directions put multiple deputies at risk for potentially getting shot at.” Deputies say they eventually managed to get her out of the golf cart and handcuffed her.

“The defendant had a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person, and she was completely nude,” the affidavit said.

Smith now faces a charge for resisting an officer without violence.

Kodak Black wants to ensure the daughter of a cop who died from COVID can go to college -- he's making a hefty donation after hearing about the officer's story.

Here's the deal ... Fort Lauderdale police officer Jennifer Sepot recently died after contracting COVID-19 and experiencing complications related to the virus, leaving behind a 2-year-old daughter.

Kodak's attorney, Bradford Cohen, tells TMZ ... the rapper read an article about the cop's COVID death, saw she had a young daughter and said ... "Make sure that kid is straight. Pay for her college fund."

Kodak donated $20,000 to a college fund for the little girl, and we're told he was so moved by Officer Sepot's story because he also battled COVID.

Cohen says Kodak contracted COVID several months ago and suffered from body aches, headaches and difficulty breathing for about 10 days.

The Fort Lauderdale Fraternal Order of Police tells TMZ ... they're "grateful to everyone who has donated to the Sepot family in memory of Jennifer. Her loss has had an immeasurable and lasting impact on our officers. The generosity by supporters has offered a degree of hope during a time in which support for law enforcement feels to be a waning movement."

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A former Brunswick district attorney has been arrested on charges related to the investigation of the Ahmaud Arbery case.

Jackie Johnson, 49, was booked into the Glynn County Jail on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 8. She was released on bond that same day, according to jail records. Johnson was released under her own recognizance under a $10,000 bond.

Johnson had been indicted on charges of violation of oath of public officer and obstruction of a police officer.

According to the indictment, Johnson “violated the above provision of her oath of District Attorney by showing favor and affection to Greg McMichael during the investigation into the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.”

According to court filings, one of the first phone calls Greg McMichael made after the shooting of Arbery was to Johnson.

The indictment also states that Johnson hindered two Glynn County Police Department officers by directing that Travis McMichael was not placed under arrest on the day Arbery was shot and killed.

The case will be prosecuted by Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr.

The attorney for the Ahmad Arbery family, Lee Merrit, said “This historic decision by the grand jury in South Georgia at the behest of the Attorney General Carr, we hope will send ripple effects throughout the legal community. Ahmaud Arbery’s murder was a tipping point in this nation for addressing the issue of not only violence and racism, but systemic racism.”

Michael K. Williams' name will live on in the form of a law aiming to reduce mass incarceration ... if a Brooklyn politician has her way.

New York State Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn -- who reps Michael's home neighborhood of East Flatbush -- tells TMZ ... she and her team are working with the ACLU to propose a bill in his honor that would help lower the state's prison population.

We're told the bill will specifically focus on the youth and Black and Latino individuals who make up a disproportionate amount of inmates -- something that was very important to the actor, who was the ACLU ambassador for ending mass incarceration.

Hermelyn adds that she plans to meet with Michael's family about the bill when the timing is right ... fully understanding that they're recovering from a tragic loss right now.

There's more being done to remember "The Wire" star -- Hermelyn says prior to his death, Michael was working with her husband, Edu, and actor Jamie Hector (Marlo on "The Wire") on a back-to-school event where supplies will be distributed to Flatbush kids and parents.

The event is on Sept. 12, and we're told this will now be an annual event in remembrance of Michael.

Hermelyn tells us in light of Michael's passing, and in honor of him, she will continue to fight for arts and cultural programming funds in East Flatbush, and also for at-risk youth across the state.

As we reported ... Michael was found dead Monday of an apparent overdose in his Brooklyn apartment. He was a beloved and prolific actor who rose to fame as Omar Little on "The Wire," but went on to star in several other hit shows and movies, garnering critical acclaim.

Nipsey Hussle's estate wants to stop alleged bootleggers from hawking merch with his popular brands on them, but it's got a problem ... the estate says most of the sellers operate out of China.

The late rapper's brother and estate administrator, Samiel Asghedom, just filed suit against several entities that the estate believes are behind a bunch of e-commerce websites selling knockoff Marathon-related clothing ... which is Nip's line.

Asghedom says the estate has the rights to several registered trademarks -- including a "Crenshaw" logo for clothing, another clothing line called "South Central State of Mind" and others -- but claims the websites in question are using the marks without permission.

The estate also says the foreign e-commerce sites have specifically targeted sales to Illinois residents ... which appears to be why the lawsuit is filed in a federal court in Illinois.

According to the lawsuit, there are tell-tale signs linking the various sites ... including misspellings, similar checkout methods and accepted payments, ad tactics and so on.

The estate also believes a lot of these sites are operating out of China, and perhaps in concert with one another, using different operating systems and domain host sites to cover their tracks.

Nipsey's estate wants the judge to force the sites to hand over their domain registrations and is also looking for big damages -- either all the profits from the merch sales using the trademarks, or $2 million per infraction!!!

Polo G is in trouble because of guns once again ... the rapper was arrested on another weapons charge.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the rapper was arrested on Monday afternoon in Downtown L.A. after cops say they found him carrying a concealed firearm, a felony.

We're told Polo G was a passenger in a car that was pulled over, though it's not clear exactly why. In any event ... cops say after searching the car they found the firearm. We're told a male juvenile was also arrested and booked on the same charge.

The arrest comes nearly 3 months after his album release party ... when he was arrested in Miami after allegedly attacking a cop. Cops there say they also found 2 handguns inside a bag after the Cadillac he had been riding in was pulled over for blackout-tinted windows.

Polo G was also a passenger during that stop. Cops said he became combative and they struggled to get handcuffs on him. The escalation left 1 cop injured.
