A family are celebrating after discovering the daughter they were told had died in a car crash is alive after a hospital mix-up.

However, the news meant heartache for the parents of the girl's best friend - as it emerged it was their daughter who died in the accident.

Abby Guerra’s funeral was due to take place today after her parents were told she had been killed in the crash along with another friend.

However, on Saturday, hospital officials in Glendale, Arizona, announced the 19-year-old was alive and in a coma.

A mix up at the crash scene had led to the talented young football player being mistaken for her best friend, 21-year-old Marlena Cantu.

Abby had suffered severe head injuries, a broken back and punctured lung and was unrecognisable due to facial swelling and having her head shaved for a brain operation.

Marlena’s family had maintained a bedside vigil after being told she was in a critical condition while Abby’s friends and family were told to prepare the teenager's funeral.

Staff at Evansville College in Indiana where Abby was a star member of the soccer team posted an online tribute as they mourned her death.

It wasn't until dental records were finally checked that authorities realised there had been a mix-up.

The young woman lying in a coma in a Phoenix hospital was Abby while Marlena had died at the scene of the crash.

The victims had been returning from a trip to Disneyland in LA when their 4x4 suffered a rear tyre blow-out.

Tyler Parker, 20, also died at the scene.

Abby’s aunt Dorenda Cisneros said the family was overjoyed she had survived, but felt sympathy for the Cantu family.

'I mean, you're ecstatic for one - I mean, it's a miracle - but in the same you feel angry, because we mourned all week,' she said.

Colleen Donovan kept a vigil outside what she thought was Marlena’s hospital room.

You're not looking for differences,’ she said.

It didn't look like anyone I'd ever seen.

'Every day her parents went to the hospital having hope that she's living one more day, then to find out it's not her.

'And Abby's parents, too. They've gone through all these emotions, and now they find out she's really alive. Abby still has a struggle to survive.'

The mix-up mirrors that of another mistaken identity case involving two girls in the U.S. in 2006.
Whitney Cerak, 20, was thought to have been among four students who died when their van crashed in Indiana.

But five weeks after the accident, the family of another student, Laura Van Ryn, realised the hospitalised young woman they thought was their daughter actually was Whitney

A Nicki Minaj concert that was scheduled to take place in Canada has been cancelled unexpectedly.

The Harajuku Barbie who's said be to performing around the world, was scheduled to perform at Toronto's Sound Academy, Monday August 2nd but broke the news to fans herself that the show was off.

According to Nicki, her Canadian concert was canned because she was deemed “dangerous" and she told her nearly 1 million followers on Twitter,

“The Concert in Toronto was cancelled due to circumstances beyond my control. Canada thinks I'm dangerous. Sorry u guyz. We'll figure it out.”

She later went back and deleted the message from her Twitter account.

Promoters for the event tell a different story however and have released a statement on their website saying that it was actually Minaj and her management team who decided to cancel the scheduled show, not Canadian officials, which they call a “clear” breach of agreement.

Your Outlet To Entertainment, better known as Y.O.T.E. Inc., regretfully announces the cancellation of their August 2nd concert:"The Summer is Hotter" featuring Nicki Minaj live at the Sound Academy, 11 Polson St.

"Unfortunately a decision made by Nicki Minaj and her management not to appear at the August 2nd concert at the Sound Academy has forced us to cancel this concert. We hope that the media will help us to spread the word of this cancellation to the masses so that all tickets purchased can be refunded."

Representation for Y.O.T.E. Inc. has assured STE Media that the decision not to perform was a choice made solely by Minaj and her management and notwithstanding the best efforts of Mr. Graham and Y.O.T.E. Inc. to accommodate Nicki Minaj and her entourage, she has chosen not to perform in clear breach of the Agreement between the parties.

"It is the objective of Y.O.T.E. Inc. to satisfy our clients with the acts they want to see. At all of our past concerts and events, Y.O.T.E. Inc. has always delivered the artists scheduled to perform, so Nicki Minaj deciding not to appear is a huge disappointment to her fans." Mark Graham'

Wyclef Jean for president?

There are reports that the musician is mulling a run for the top office in Haiti. Reached by phone, Jean told CNN that talk of a campaign is a bit premature as he is still mulling it over.

“I can’t sing forever,” Jean said.

The Canadian publication Le Droit reported over the weekend that Jean would be throwing his hat into the political ring in his native homeland. But Jean told CNN that such reports reflect him being "drafted" but he hasn't decided for sure yet.

He added that he has filled out the necessary paperwork in case he does decide to move forward with a candidacy. Jean has been an outspoken proponent of Haiti through his Yele Haiti Foundation and was one of the first celebrities to offer aid after the devastating earthquake.

"Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward," said a statement released by his foundation. "At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately. Please let us know if we can help with anything else."

Mel Gibson Directing James Caviezel in 'Passion Of Christ'

Mel Gibson was spotted going to church over the weekend according to UsOnline. I'd have to say it's single smartest thing he's done in a long time. Because as it stands right now. the actor/director could lose some parental privileges and face jail time.

Just Yesterday another rant was released by RadarOnline and Mel was being as belligerent as always.

This time Mel takes shots at his Timothy Dalton, who has a 12 year old son with Mel's baby's mother, Oksana Grigorieva.

Mad Max sounds sad, bitter and jealous as he rants:

"Did you get my last message about me being a bad dad and Tim such a great one? You didn't hear that one? Well you should go f*ck him you fickle c*nt."

Now today RadarOnline has released several pics that are supposed to be of Oksana after Mel hit her in the face.

From the recording booth to the big screen.

Pop star Rihanna is set to make her acting debut in the new movie 'Battleship' according to EOnline.

The movie is inspired by the board game by Hasbro that a lot of people refer to as the "You Sunk My Battleship" game.

It will be interesting to see how that translates the big screen.

The film also stars Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgård as brothers who end up leading the fight for their planet's survival against an otherworldly force.

'Battleship' is slated to hit theaters in May 2012.

I was beginning to think those nude pics of singer Cassie that leaked last year had ended her career. Luckily for her fans the beautiful singer is still going strong.

She was spotted in St Tropez performing Sunday (July 25) at the VIP Room in St Tropez.

We brought you deep into the mind of Freekey Zeekey In Part One of his interview with Major Moves DVD Here. Now we're going in for part two. You never know what you might here come out of Zeke's mouth so hold on.

The Former 1st Lady of Dipset, Jha Jha had a few not so nice things to say about Jim Jones recently, claimiming he's blackballed.her from the business.

"I'm not here to talk about her, I guess she felt that type of way, but that aint gonna make her no money. You gotta look at it, if they see me, Cam, Jim standing over here and Jha Jha over there. Which deal you think you gon go with?"

In situations like that, I always look at my man Dr Dre. The n*gga Suge took everything, Suge Debo'd this n*gga. He had like over $100 million or whatever Death Row had made. Dre aint make sh*t, Dre just dropped everything and bounced. No money, no nothing they aint even do sh*t, went back in the lab, picked Eminem up."

Money Joe Asked if Zeke had reached out to Max-B since he got knocked.

"I mean the years he got that's crazy, I mean I don't wish that on no man. But personally haven't [reached out] but I'm not gonna sit there and keep kicking the n*gga in the nuts. He said some sh*t and did some sh*t that I could never forgive him for cause Jim is my family. But it's things I wouldn't wanna see happen to the n*gga anyway because I know he wouldn't really do none of the sh*t he sayin, he was just talking out of anger."

Zeekey went on to call the beef with French Montana internet drama said and it aint making him any money so he's not interested in it.

There's a lot more to the interview so check it out below.

While Chris Brown has always made it clear that he looks to Michael Jackson for inspiration, there are nearly as many parallels to be made between Brown and Usher. And last weekend, Breezy joined Usher on stage during the Reggae SumFest 2010 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The duo wowed audiences in the concluding night of the festival.

Brown had already performed his own set on Friday, tearing through songs like "Run It" and "Forever" and showing off his formidable dancing skills. But it was his surprise appearance during Usher's set the following day that really set the crowd off. According to TheChrisBrownBlog.com, the two were also joined onstage by Elephant Man and later engaged in a dance-off.

Video footage from the performance had not surfaced online at press time, but photos reveal the two singing together and even showing some affection with an onstage hug.

Brown took to Twitter Saturday to thank Jamaica. "I wanna thank you Jamaica for your wonderful embrace last night at the show," he wrote. "Next time well do passa passa ... lmao ... (oh hell naw). Love ya!"

Later on Saturday, he tweeted about performing with Usher. "Me and Usher killin Jamaica right now," he wrote.

When Chris burst on the music scene five years ago, he was overcome with excitement when meeting Usher. "To see him face-to-face, I was like, 'OK, Chris, it's gonna be all right, just chill out right quick. You about to do the song, man, don't be no punk,' " Brown told MTV News about recording a song that was later featured in Usher's 2005 film "In the Mix."

ALHINDE WEEMS led a double life: He was a Philadelphia police officer and a drug dealer.

On Friday (July 23), he paid the price when he was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joel Slomsky to 15 years - the mandatory minimum but within sentencing guidelines - in a federal lockup
.

The sentencing of Weems came little more than a week after a federal indictment last week of three Philadelphia police officers who were accused of stealing 300 grams of heroin from a drug supplier in exchange for $10,000 cash from an accused drug dealer.

Weems is the latest in a cadre of ex-Philly cops - after Malik Snell and Rickie Durham - to be sentenced in the last year to federal prison on corruption and drug-related charges.

Snell received a 30-year sentence and Durham got a two-year sentence. (Federal prosecutors are appealing Durham's sentence.)

Weems, who pleaded guilty in January to distribution of crack, attempting to rob a drug dealer and related weapons offenses, had been a 5 1/2-year veteran of the force, working in West Philadelphia's 18th Police District and making $62,330 a year.

The married father of four was contrite. "I'm ashamed to stand before you today in this situation," he told Slomsky, adding that he had "embarrassed" his family, friends and fellow police officers.

Weems maintained - as did family and friends - that his criminal misdeeds were "totally out of character" and that he was a "good man."

But Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Carrillo said Weems was a dirty cop.

"His badge was a means to commit crimes and not protect the public," she said.

When Slomsky asked how a cop who had no prior criminal record could suddenly go bad, defense attorney Jack J. McMahon Jr. offered a novel theory.

He said many police officers get "desensitized" to the "serious reality and danger" of the drug trade "because they see it every day. If they arrest 10 drug dealers one day, 10 more are back on the streets the next day."

But the explanation didn't wash with the judge. "When law-enforcement officers don't obey the law, nobody is safe," Slomsky said.

Earlier, the judge read portions of a letter submitted to the court by Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

Ramsey wrote that Weems "tarnished the badge he wore" and "put a mark on this department that the rest of us must now work hard to erase."

As with other corrupt police officers, Ramsey said Weems' badge will be destroyed and melted into a lump of metal.

Weems had been taken in by a federal informant in December 2008 who was working with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The informant passed along information that Weems was a drug dealer.

Court papers said the informant bought an ounce of crack from Weems on Dec. 17, 2008, for $1,300 and two ounces of crack on Jan. 14, 2009, for $2,400.

A few weeks later, Weems bought and transported what he thought was a $30,000 kilo of cocaine from Maryland for someone he thought was a drug dealer but was really an undercover agent. Weems was paid $500, and sham cocaine was used in the sting.

Weems subsequently began planning to rob a drug dealer's stash house, meeting four times with the informant and undercover agent, who taped the conversations.

During the meetings, Weems stated he would use his badge, uniform and service revolver to enter the house and subdue any occupants, court papers said.

The robbery never occurred because authorities arrested Weems on March 27, 2009, before the planned robbery.
