George Jung -- the prolific cocaine smuggler portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie "Blow" -- has died.

Sources close to the situation tell TMZ ... George died Wednesday morning at home in the Boston area. The cause of death is currently not known, though he had recently been experiencing liver & kidney failure.

We're told he had been in home hospice care since this past weekend & died with his girlfriend, Ronda, & friend, Roger, by his side. We're told he will be cremated.

George's Twitter account tweeted a quote from the film Wednesday, “May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, & the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars. 1942-2021."

"Boston George," as he was known, served 20 years in prison for running drugs. He was released in 2014, but ultimately landed back behind bars just 2 years later for violating his parole by failing to inform his parole officer he would be hitting up San Diego.

He was famous for being part of the Medellin Cartel & helping Pablo Escobar smuggle planeloads of cocaine into the U.S. That was a big deal because, at the time, Escobar's cartel was responsible for distributing 80% of the world's cocaine & about 15 tons of blow reportedly came into the U.S. per day ... for a weekly haul of $420 million.

George's story was ultimately written in the book "Blow: How a Small-Town Boy Made $100 Million with the Medellin Cocaine Cartel & Lost It All" & then in the 2001 flick starring Johnny Depp & Penelope Cruz.

According to a new report from the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies frequently harass the families of people they have killed, including taunting them at vigils, parking outside their homes and following them and pulling them over for no reason, reports The Guardian. After collecting detailed accounts of alleged harassment from the families of Paul Rea, an 18-year-old killed during a traffic stop in 2019, and Anthony Vargas, a 21-year-old shot 13 times in 2018, the report claims that the LA sheriff’s department (LASD) has routinely retaliated against victims’ relatives who speak out, that LASD deputies regularly drive by or park in front of the Rea and Vargas families’ homes and workplaces and at times have taken photos or recorded them for no reason. In response to family members’ formal complaints of harassment, LASD has frequently concluded that “employee conduct appears reasonable.”

The NLG report alleges that stations with officer gangs have been responsible for some of the harassment. Hilda Solis, an LA county supervisor, also introduced a motion on Tuesday, which unanimously passed, calling for an investigation into incidents of harassment and for written policies to bar this behavior. The report also said some families are too afraid to speak out given these reports of harassment.

Video After The Jump

A New Jersey high school teacher has been suspended after he was recorded calling George Floyd a criminal in a profanity-filled rant during class, school officials said.

Video shows Howard Zlotkin, a 61-year-old teacher at William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, railed against Black Lives Matter and Floyd during an online landscapingclass on April 28.

"I hear people whining and crying about Black Lives Matter but George Floyd was a (expletive) criminal that was being arrested," Zlotkin, who is white, said in video obtained by WNBC-TV.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was recently convicted of Floyd's murder, which set off months of protests worldwide calling for an end to police brutality last year. Floyd, who was Black, died last year after Chauvin pressed his knee on his neck for more than nine minutes.

Zlotkin told the high school students that Floyd was killed "because he wouldn't comply with police" and that didn't make him a hero, according to WNBC.

Zlotkin was suspended without pay on April 29, and information about the incident was sent to the Jersey City Public Schools District legal department, according to a statement provided to USA TODAY by deputy superintendent Norma Fernandez. Zlotkin has been teaching in the school district for 21 years.

"The District is appalled at the teacher's unbecoming behavior and unprofessional outburst," according to the statement. "His views do not represent the Jersey City Public School District's focus on equity and the embrace of diversity."

Zlotkin was also suspended pending an investigation at Hudson County Community College, where he is an adjunct professor. In a statement, the college called Zlotkin's comments "offensive and derogatory" and said his behavior violated the school's anti-harassment policy.

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — A Malian woman has given birth to nine babies after only expecting seven, Mali’s Ministry of Health said Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Halima Cisse gave birth to the babies via cesarean section on Tuesday in Morocco after being sent there for special care, the ministry announced.

“The newborns (five girls and four boys) and the mother are all doing well,” Mali’s health minister said in a statement.

Cisse had been expecting seven babies. Malian doctors, under government orders, sent Cisse to Morocco for the births because there wasn’t adequate equipment to deal with this extremely rare pregnancy.

The private Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, where she was treated, confirmed she gave birth there.

Silento insists he has a constitutional right to a reasonable bond in his felony murder case ... insisting he's not a flight risk.

The "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" rapper filed legal docs in DeKalb County, GA requesting the court set his bond at $25k. In docs, obtained by TMZ, Silento says he's “not an extraordinary bail risk & will not jeopardize the safety of the community if released on bail.”

He also assures the court that if the judge lets him out he won't flee or go into hiding. He promises to obey all court orders. Silento says denying him bond is not only unjust -- it's unconstitutional.

We'll soon know if the judge agrees with Silento ... a bond hearing's been set for later this month.

As we reported ... the rapper was arrested on February 1 for his alleged role in the death of his cousin, Frederick Rooks. Silento was charged with felony murder.

Cops said they found Rooks shot to death in the street on Jan. 21& found 8 bullet casings at the scene. Silento's rep asked for positive thoughts for the rapper ... claiming he's been suffering from various mental health issues for several years.

ATLANTA (AP) — Rapper YFN Lucci is among a dozen people charged in a wide-ranging indictment in Atlanta targeting alleged members of the Bloods gang.

A Fulton County grand jury on Friday handed up the 105-count indictment that resulted from a six-month investigation, Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said at a news conference Tuesday. It includes racketeering, aggravated assault, murder, gun, armed robbery, property damage, theft & gang-related charges.

The indictment alleges that each of the 12 people charged is associated with sub-groups of the national Bloods gang. It says they had connections & relationships to each other & accuses them of committing a wide variety of crimes to protect & enhance the gang’s reputation & to gain & maintain control of territory.

YFN Lucci, whose given name is Rayshawn Bennett, is charged with racketeering, violating the state’s anti-gang law, felony murder, aggravated assault & possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Atlanta police previously announced murder charges against Bennett in January, saying he was the driver in a December gang-related drive-by shooting that left one man dead. The felony murder charge in last week’s indictment is based on that incident.

“He’s not guilty of any crime that’s referenced in the previous charge & now in this indictment,” Bennett’s lawyer Drew Findling said in a phone interview.

The indictment says one of the Atlanta gang sub-groups of the Bloods, known by the initials YFN, was “centered around” Bennett.

“He’s absolutely not a gang member, & this indictment — neglectfully or purposely — fails to say that Mr. Bennett is a nationally & internationally recognized musical artist,” Findling said.

The indictment also cites social media postings by Bennett & others, as well as song lyrics, alleging they are proof of gang involvement & other criminal activity.

“To sit & analyze somebody’s social media account & to try to somehow find some evidence of a crime is ridiculous when people are just really expressing themselves through social media,” Findling said.

Video After The Jump

Body camera footage from a California traffic stop shows a woman harassing a deputy and telling him that he’ll “never be white” and repeatedly calls him a “murderer.”

In the video, which was posted on Twitter Monday, a woman is heard telling a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop: “You’re always going to be a Mexican. You’ll never be white, you know that right? You’ll never be white, which is what you really want to be.”

The comments were made after the deputy pulled over the woman for apparently using her phone while driving, Newsweek reported.

The officer can be seen approaching the car and saying, “I pulled you over because...” before the woman cuts him off, saying “because you’re a murderer.”

Another deputy then arrives and after the woman signs the citation, she tells the deputy, “Here you go Mexican racist,” as she returns his pen.

A man with an intellectual disability who was enslaved by a restaurant owner in South Carolina for five years should be awarded $546,000, a court ruled.

In 2019, Bobby Paul Edwards, who owned the J&J Cafeteria in Conway, South Carolina, pleaded guilty to one count of forced labor for "coercing an African-American man with an intellectual disability to work extensive hours at a restaurant for no pay," & was sentenced to 10 years in prison, the Justice Department said in a press release at the time.

As part of the settlement, Edwards was also ordered to pay John Christopher Smith $273,000 in unpaid wages & overtime compensation.

Edwards forced Smith to work over 100 hours a week without pay. He would also beat him with a belt, fists & pots & pans.

On April 21, the Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled that Smith was entitled to double that amount, which would be $546,000.

The court said the district court did not properly account for federal labor laws when it made the decision on compensation.

"Minimum wages & overtime compensation must be paid on a current basis as work is done, such that an employee receives the prescribed compensation without delay. When an employer fails to pay those amounts, the employee suffers losses, which includes the loss of the use of that money during the period of delay," the court said in its filing.
