Video After The JumpWall Street Journal Reports
Oprah Winfrey plans to end her syndicated television show in September 2011 as she turns her attention to a new cable-television channel she plans to launch with Discovery Communications Inc.
Ms. Winfrey told her staff of her decision on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the matter. She plans to make an official announcement Friday morning on her talk show, according to a spokeswoman for Ms. Winfrey's Chicago-based Harpo Inc.
The move is a big blow to the syndicated television market in which Ms. Winfrey has long been a juggernaut. "The Oprah Winfrey Show," launched in syndication in 1986, averaged 6.6 million viewers in the week ended Nov. 8, according to Nielsen Co.
Local TV stations, which use Ms. Winfrey to anchor daytime hours, could smart from her move. Even as advertisers have cut budgets in the past year, Ms. Winfrey's show has been among the few whose rates have held steady, according to one ad buyer.
"In our market, she does extremely well and always has," said Barry Smith, director of programming and creative services for KFMB-TV, a CBS affiliate in San Diego, Calif., that is owned by Midwest Television Inc. "It's going to be a task" to replace her, Mr. Smith added.
Ms. Winfrey's decision also represents a hit to CBS Corp., which distributes her show in syndication. "We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well," CBS said.
The loss of Ms. Winfrey's show will be missed in particular by the book publishing industry. "It's a blow," said Lorraine Shanley, a partner in the consulting firm Market Partners International Inc., who earlier this week watched former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin promote her book on Ms. Winfrey's show.
"Oprah Winfrey has supported many authors, and her book club has had a huge impact on America's reading habits," added Ms. Shanley. "She made Faulkner a best seller again. She also promoted an eclectic group of authors and created publishing successes for many commercial writers."
"If it is the end of her daily talk show, we probably won't see something else to match its overall potential impact on book sales in the broadcast arena any time soon," said Stuart Applebaum, a spokesman for Bertelsmann AG's Random House publishing arm. "She has an integrity and connectivity to her viewership that is unmatched by any other television broadcast personality. Happily she enjoys reading books and wants to persuade her viewership to enjoy them as much as she does. It's not a characteristic shared by any other TV personalities with her persuasiveness."
Ms. Winfrey is likely to turn her attention to her new television network, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which she announced with Discovery Communications in January 2008.
The new channel is structured as a 50-50 joint venture between Ms. Winfrey and the cable programmer, which will replace its little-watched Discovery Health channel with the new offering.
"I will be involved in every single element of programming," Ms. Winfrey said at the time.
Since then, the network's launch has been delayed. It is now expected to launch in January of 2011, according to a person familiar with the matter. Ms. Winfrey and the network also expect to announce some plans for the new network in coming weeks, the person said.
Earlier this month, OWN named Lisa Erspamer, a veteran producer at Harpo, as its chief creative officer. Ms. Erspamer, a co-executive producer of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" since 2006, will be based at OWN's Los Angeles headquarters, according to a press release.
In January, OWN hired former MTV president Christina Norman as chief executive. She took over from Tom Freston, a former Viacom CEO and MTV veteran who has served as a consultant for the network, according to people familiar with the situation.

SixShot.com Reports
In an interview with Funkamster Flex last night (November 20), 50 Cent gave his opinion on the low sales projection of his latest album Before I Self Destruct.
As reported earlier, the album is projected to only sell around 160,000 copies by next week and will most likely miss the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.
50 Cent believes that the low sales were caused by the album's leak and the inability of his record label to take action.
"With the actual outcome of the project, once the record leaks from the international plant, what more can I do," 50 explained. "I can't, I held the record long enough to get it to them, to mix and master it and for them to ship it and then it leaks from the plant internationally, I'm like come on, then that's it. They lost the ball. You know what I mean, if the numbers look funny to me, it's they fault."
Before I Self Destruct landed on shelves Tuesday (November 17). The set features appearances from Eminem, Ne-Yo and R. Kelly.
50 has enjoyed stellar first week sales since his official debut in 2003.
Get Rich Or Die Trying scored 872,000 copies, The Massacre cashed in over 1,000,000 copies and Curtis rolled in 691,000 copies.

Shyne was officially deported by to Belize in late October, after serving eight years or a 10-year sentence for his part in a New York club shooting in 1999.
When news first broke of his impending release, Bad Boy Records founder Diddy said he had been in contact with the rapper, saying he was in good spirits and ready to be released. However, that turned out to not be true.
Shyne told Rolling Stone, shortly after, that he hadn't spoken to Diddy in years, and probably would never speak to him.
"I want it known that this supposed conversation is a figment of Sean Combs' imagination," Shyne said in a statement. "He never spoke with me, he never visited me nor would I ever accept a phone call or visit from him. The only way I would do either of those things would be if he stepped up and did the right thing for the victims of the incident."
Despite calling him out for the made-up story, Diddy spoke out -- positively -- about the rapper's deportation recently, via an interview with Funkmaster Flex on New York's Hot 97 radio station, in which the hip-hop mogul said Shyne deserves to be allowed into the U.S.
"I've never had any problem with Shyne," Diddy said on the air. "I've never had any problem with him, I was looking forward to him coming home and just getting out here and letting people see what I saw. I think [his career] was cut down too early, people never got a chance to see what I saw.
"The thing that bugs me out is people forget what was going on at the time, [Hot 97] was throwing so many stones at me, telling me how Shyne sounded like Biggie. All the cats up here at this station was throwing stones at me and I was telling them, 'Nah, the kid got something special,' Diddy continued. "At the end of the day, when [someone goes] to jail, a lot of people jump on the bandwagon and it was beyond that to me. I never wish bad on anybody, I only wish somebody the best and I hope he gets to come back to the United States, he did his time, he deserves to come back."
Right now, Shyne is in Belize, getting used to freedom. It's said that he plans to begin recording new music soon, while he and his family fight the immigration decision from his home country.

Police are investigating rapper Fabolous and his connection to a luxury car stolen from an upscale hotel in Atlanta.
According to Channel 2 Action News, Atlanta police claim men in Fabolous’ entourage stole a rare 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.
The vehicle, which was one of only two brought into the United States, was taken on January 31 and has not been seen since.
Surveillance video shows two men in Fabolous’ entourage approach a bellman at the Intercontinental, received the keys to the Lamborghini and left as if it was their property.
Fabolous and the rest of the group allegedly followed behind the Lamborghini in a minivan.
Police investigating the theft have confirmed that Fabolous knows the men, but an attempt to subpoena the rapper to make him talk was refused by Fulton County DA Paul Howard, who offered immunity to anyone who helped find the vehicle.
Meanwhile the vehicle’s owner, Eric Vargosko, is suing the Intercontinental over the loss of the Lamborghini.
"The InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta has accepted responsibility for this unfortunate incident from its inception and has always been willing to provide fair and reasonable compensation for the damages caused to the vehicle by the incident," said Caroline Counihan in a statement to Channel 2. "We hold the safety, comfort and well-being of our guests and employees as our top priority and concern. We have taken several measures, including heightening security, so that a repeat of this incident does not happen."

Sosa in 1989 with Texas, in 2004 with the Cubs and recently in Las Vegas.Miami Herald Reports
The one thing Sammy Sosa didn't get for his birthday was a sense of humor. That's what radio host Enrique Santos, so-called King of All Spanglish Media and host of a show on La Kalle 98.3 FM, wanted to give him as a gift, but never had the chance. At Sosa's big birthday bash Saturday at the Fontainebleau, Santos thought he'd have a little fun with the whole ``Lighteningate'' situation -- Sosa's been seen recently with a much-lighter skin tone and green contact lenses -- and showed up looking like he had been locked into a spray tan booth.
``I'm currently using a cream which has darkened my complexion,'' Santos said snarkily. ``Ironically, Sammy is going through the same process, but the cream he is using is making him white.''
While on the red carpet doing interviews, Santos was approached by a publicist who told him, ``You can't make fun of Sosa,'' and eventually kicked him out of the affair.
``I asked her, `How many women in here are wearing makeup?' but she wasn't having it,'' Santos told us. ``Was I not white enough for Sammy's party or have the millions gotten to his skin -- I mean head?''Read more…

Forbes magazine has included Ice Cube in their list of “Hollywood’s 10 Most Overpaid Stars.”
The dwindling box office sales of Cube’s movies over the last several years earned him a spot at no. 5 on the list, behind such big screen names as Will Ferrell, Ewan McGregor, Billy Bob Thornton and Eddie Murphy. According to the financial tome, for every dollar that the West Coast rap legend turned actor was paid, his films only make $4.77.
To qualify for the list every actor had to star in at least three movies over the last five years and each flick had to open in 500 theaters or more nationwide. Forbes then took into account the person’s total compensation for their last three roles and divided it by the movies’ total operating income to determine each individual’s return-on-investment figure. —Max GRead more…
AllHipHop Reports
Rapper Juelz Santana has responded to recent comments that former group member Cam’ron made in regards to a potential Dipset reunion.
Juelz appeared on AllHipHop.com’s Eric B. and Friends morning show yesterday (November 18), where he addressed Cam’ron’s most recent statements claiming that “Dipset was over."
While the prospects of a reunion between estranged group members like Jim Jones, Hell Rell and Freaky Zeeky are slim, Juelz remained somewhat optimistic, despite Cam’ron’s refusal to do business with his former allies.
According to a Juelz, the root of the dispute is centered around a bad business deal with Diplomat Records, which was run by Cam. The label released Juelz’ first two albums From Me to U (2003) and What the Game's Been Missing! (2005).
"I would love to do it," Santana told AllHipHop.com. "If you really look me and Jim [Jones] been shouting out the Byrd. Despite the situation with Cam and despite Cam getting on radio interviews saying ‘oh I will never do nothing with them again.’ My whole thing for not being next to Cam at this moment was ‘cause we had a bad business situation…I didn’t understand how I person that I thought was my brother could put me in a situation like that, even though I respect the situation just by putting me in the game, I’ll never take that away, but I couldn’t just stand there and just be a fool no more."
Despite Cam’s statements that Dipset is finished, the Harlem native recently launched Dipset West, with his former group members.
“I put a lot of bricks in that building,” Juelz stated. “So my work was more than put in, so even if you can say you brought me to the game, well guess what, I gave you everything for brining me to the game. I helped build that Diplomat building to the top floor. When you think of Dipset I'll always be in your brain. If Cam feels like for whatever reason he is too big to get over whatever happened, or he’s too stubborn or whatever the case may be, so be it. At the end of the day, I am comfortable. I can look in the mirror.”
As for Juelz Santana is not wasting any time moving his career forward, with several mixtapes planned, in addition to releases by his group Skull Gang and his own solo album, Born to Lose, Built To Win.
Santana recently shot a video in Los Angeles for the single "Homerun" with chart topping New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne which will be featured on the album.
So far, featured artists on Juelz' third studio album include Chrisette Michelle, Chris Brown and others.

Ok, so Mase is trying to come back in the music biz. But, what do the people from his church think? One of them is speaking out.
In a recent interview with HipHopWired.com, a former member of the rapper's S.A.N.E. (Saving A Nation Endangered International) parish says Mase's tip-toeing between being a pastor and rapper messes things up for him.
"It became a hustle for Ma$e after awhile, dog," Legacy The Jesus tells the website. "Where he gauging who he would talk to based around how much they were giving. That's a problem for me ... Mase, he owe the church an apology ... He can't do music and the church because he start messing up when he does both."
He continued his explantion, calling Mase "false prophet", claiming the rapper doesn't follow what he preaches. He even accused him of spending time in strip clubs.
A pastor in a strip club? Now that doesn't make any sense.
"You can't tell me 'Hey man, be faithful to your wife and I'm your pastor,' but I see you in the strip club with five hos on your lap and you're high," Legacy explained. "That's a false prophet. You're not living by what you're saying and people can take that out of context and that is what it is. I don't expect Ma$e to be perfect, but I definitely expect him to live by what he's saying. You can't go out there doing that bro because people get deceived."
He speaks more in-depth about the situation in the full interview. To read the entire interview, head over to HipHopWired.com.

The mayor of a small Arkansas town wants an independent investigation on whether it was appropriate for a police officer to use a Taser on an unruly 10-year-old girl who kicked him in the groin.
Mayor Vernon McDaniel says he wants Arkansas State Police or the FBI to look into whether the use of the Taser was proper. The girl, who hasn't been identified, wasn't hurt and is now at the Western Arkansas Youth Shelter in Cecil.
Ozark police were called to the home Nov. 11 after the girl's mother couldn't get the child to take a shower.
Ozark Police Chief Jim Noggle, who has defended the officer's action, didn't immediately return a call for comment Wednesday morning.
