Darryl McDaniels of the legendary hip hop group Run-DMC is giving urban youth characters they can relate in the form of a new comic book with Latino characters.
"I didn't want to be another rapper who was trying to capitalize on the hip hop genre just because I had a hit record," DMC told the New York Daily News. "I wanted to tackle real issues head on."
The Hollis Queens, New York native partnered with Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez to bring the comic book to life through his independent publishing house, Daryl Makes Comics.
Real life issues such as AIDS, drug addiction, domestic violence, homophobia and teenage pregnancy will be addressed in throughout the issues.
DMC has hired Latino illustrators and writers, who will bring to life characters that mirror society.
"Women are attacked, abused or killed an amazing number of times in comic books and we don't want to do that," says Miranda-Rodriguez. "We don't want to glorify abuse or victimize women. You will see yourself in the book because you are supposed to see yourself in the book,"
DMC's love for comic books fostered the idea to make his own.
"[We want] to let the world know we are going to do this comic book 100% authentic for comic book culture," DMC told Sway in the Morning during a 2013 interview. "This is not the rapper DMC doing a hip hop comic book. This is Darryl McDaniels, a comic book fiend doing a comic book. Batman, Superman, DMC. It ain't gonna be no rapping DMC. I'm a real official super hero. There's a new hero on the block so wake up y'all."
The first issue will be released on October 29, 2014. To pre-order please visit http://www.dmc-comics.com/.

“Scrappin The Pot” is a banger with bleak lyrics that’ll breathe life into the soul of the streets. Legendary Grammy-nominated, Philly-lyricist Neef Buck is back, this time around with the 7th installment of his street-cemented classic, Forever Do Me. Neef describes the Bobby Johnson-produced-single as: “…a record that stands for being and staying hungry for more. Getting everything you can get out of every situation - which could be anything in life.”
This record is a clear celebration for anyone familiar to the hustle - broke parents, starving artists, and filthy rich stockbrokers – this street-honest anthem is packed with lyrical proclamations to the streets and vivid stories over its subtle production. Neef has quite nailed a formula for delivering a club banger for the afternoon ride home.
Pras is taking legal action against the New York Post over what he calls "reckless reporting."
At issue is an article published by the Post on Sunday, October 5, alleging Pras, real name Prakazrel Samuel Michel, bailed on a September 11, 2014 show in New York City for his Hope for Them foundation. The story also claims the 41-year old former member of The Fugees falsely claimed MTV was sponsoring the event and that he bounced a check to the venue it was being held at.
Pras told the New York Daily News Confidenti@l that the story is completely false. He says he was on the West Coast on the day of the 9/11 show after returning from overseas.
“I was in L.A. when this event happened,” Pras told Confidenti@l. “I’d just come back from North Korea."
The rapper added that the Post didn't bother to fact check their article before publishing. The fallout from it has forced him to seek counseling.
“When you talk about charity, that is serious,” he said. “I have to litigate. You are provoking a specific emotion when you invoke 9/11. I’m going to see a therapist about this. I’m traumatized. And I’ve never seen a therapist in my life.”
He has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Post seeking $30 million in damages.

After several months of separation Paula Patton has filed for divorce from Robin Thicke. The former couple, who have known each other since they were teenagers, have been married for nine years and have a four-year old son, Julian.
The actress split from Robin five months after two publicly humiliating moments for her on the night of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
The first was Robin's raunchy VMA performance with Miley Cyrus. The "Wrecking Ball" singer twerked against and used a foam finger to touch his private parts.
Later that night at a post-VMA party Robin posed for a photo with a female fan. His hand can be seen slipping underneath her dress in a mirror behind them.
To Robin's credit, he did try everything he could in an attempt to save his marriage, including putting out an album in July 2014, dedicated to his estranged wife.
In the end it wasn't enough for Paula to reunite with the R&B singer.
TMZ reports that she wants joint and physical custody of their son. You can view the divorce documents here.
