MTV (31)

It's been a year since Kanye West snatched the mic from country singer Taylor Swift's hands during her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video award at the 2009 VMA's and announced, "I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," Apparently Yeezy is still dealing with a lot of regret, or maybe even anger over the incident. Although he reportedly apologized to Swift, and she accepted, Ye is using his Twitter account to vent about how he was ostracised after the debacle. Kanye is going off this morning (September 4) about the media mistreating him, and the perception that he is racist. "Man I love Twitter... I've always been at the mercy of the press but no more... The media tried to demonize me They wanted yall to believe I was a monster in real life so you guys wouldn't listen or buy my music anymore I feel like they were waiting for the opportunity to go in all the way on me and when it came they beat me to a pulp Even now a lot of articles start there first 2 paragraphs about how much of an a**hole I am I accept the idea (ideal) that perception is reality When I say perception is reality I mean whatever you think is the truth... is your truth Some people's truth is Kanye is racist... It's not my truth but I do believe it's my Karma.... walk with me."

Kanye's last tweet is referring to him famously announcing that, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a live telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief on NBC in 2005. Many may have agreed with those comment regarding George Bush, if not the platform used to convey them. But the Taylor Swift incident left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. Kanye had a lot more to say about that. "How deep is the scar... I bled hard.. cancelled tour with the number one pop star in the world ... closed the doors of my clothing office Had to let employees go... for the first time I felt the impact of my brash actions ... I felt the recession from an ownership side People booed when I would go to concerts and the performer mentioned my name There are people who don't dislike me... they absolutely hate me!"

"That's when you realize perception is reality. I've been straying from this subject on twitter but I have to give it to you guys raw now. If you google A**hole my face may very well pop up 2 pages into the search. People tweeted that they wish I was dead... No listen. They wanted me to die people. I carry that. I smile and take pictures through that I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her She had nothing to do with my issues with award shows. She had no idea what hit her. She's justa lil girl with dreams like the rest of us. We're both artist and the media and managers are trying to get between us. Everyone wants to capitalize off this is some way There are people who have named there kids after me... can you imagine that next day in school. Even though I don't have kids It's not about race America. No one in our position ever stands up and says anything anymore I am not a bad person. Even in that moment I was only trying to do good but people don't always need my help Beyonce didn't need that. MTV didn't need that and Taylor and her family friends and fans definitely didn't want or need that TAYLOR LOVES RAP MUSIC... I LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC."

Well damn, this dude was on a roll. I honestly think he needs to let it go at this point though. twitter-5d.gif

Drake may be one of the hottest rappers in the game, but he's still not calling baller shots just yet. The Young Money rapper reached out to MTV's 2010 Hottest Breakthrough Artist in the hopes he would join his 'Light Dreams and Nightmare Tour', "If Wiz by any chance watches this, you gotta make some calls for me and make this happen," Drake told MTV. "We got that young energy right now, we need to go out here and kill these people." Wiz got the massage and says no thanks according to XXL due to his own tour. “Just the fact of cuz even extending his hand and me being on his radar is tight, to me,” he said. “It just lets me know that I’m doin’ what I need to be doin’ as far as stayin’ relevant and stayin’ poppin’. But I think to keep me poppin’ and keep me relevant I gotta stay buildin’ on top of what I’m doin’ and what I been doin’. No disrespect to cuz or anybody else who might wanna see me do some more collaborative things, but to keep buildin’ and keep my brand as strong as what it is, I gotta keep focusin’ on what it is. This is my first tour that I got comin’ up, the Waken Baken tour, I gotta at least kick that off and make that it what it is so we can do ten more." Drake's tour features Bun B and Clipse as opening acts, certainly it could have been a good look for Pittsburgh's Wiz, but the timing just isn't right. Wiz did say that he would like to meet and hang out with Drizzy soon. “I really want to meet him and chop it up with him,” he said. “I wanna meet him, chop it up, smoke one with him and who knows what could happen. But it’s all positive right now," Wiz said. twitter-2a.png

Video After The Jump

MTV's 'When I Was 17' series has finally made it's way around to Ciara.

It won't come as any surprise that by the time she was 17, Ciara was very driven, but also very well liked at her high school.

As her friend Jasper describes her, "When Ciara was 17 she was just real ambitious, just happy all the time. Sing and dance [he repeated that several times] that's all she do."

She was a cheerleader, which isn't hard to imagine, but she had to make a decision to either get serious about her music career or continue as a cheerleader. So she decided to pursue music full time.

From there, you know what happened. She worked her butt off and became a big star with hits like Goodies and 1,2 step.

Ciara is about to release her fourth album titled 'Basic Instinct' in August.

Kanye West surprised everyone by showing up to bless the mic at Kid Cudi's recent Los Angeles show. Mr West has been off soul searching ever since the Taylor Swift VMA disaster, but he showed the Nokia Theater crowd he's back better than ever. The Louis Vuitton Don spit a hot freestyle before ripping through his new joint "I'm So Appalled". He even brought out his baby girl Amber Rose for a few. I'm not sure why, but hey who cares she's a dime. I'm assuming this signals the end of Kanye's hiatus, we should be hearing a lot more from him in 2010. With four albums in two years, Plies is definitely one of the most prolific MCs in the game — but is he one of the hottest? The Florida native is among the artists in contention for the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust's 2009 list of the Hottest MCs in the Game. (To see what it takes to make the list, check out our Hottest MCs criteria.) It will all be revealed in a few weeks. While Plies has thugged it heavy during the past year, he's in between cycles right now. On the other hand, he does have a big underground record with "Becky." It will be interesting to see where he ranks. He definitely has the respect and admiration of the streets — album or no album. We asked the gold-mouth 'hood goliath about his potential to make the Hottest list this year. In 2008, he said he was just excited to have his name mentioned at the roundtable. This year, he's singing a slightly different tune. "Awards and accomplishments, that's a small part of my situation," he told MTV News. "One thing I understand is that this game picks and chooses who they wanna solidify. Until I start walking in these clubs and venues and nobody shows up, I know I got a personal problem. [As] I continue to walk in these spots and they sold out four and five days a week, I couldn't ask for more than that. I'd rather have that than a trophy that don't really mean that much or a title that don't really mean that much, because it's all opinionated information anyway." Plies' Goon Affiliated comes out October 6.

September 13, the night of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was already shaping up to be a pretty busy evening for Beyoncé. — who's nominated for a whopping nine Moonmen. Now, it's going to be even busier. That's where we'll exclusively unveil Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox," which has just been tapped as the first single off the "New Moon" soundtrack, which hits stores on October 20. And if that isn't enough VMA news we've got for you, it's also been confirmed that up-and-coming rapper Wale and the legendary Washington, D.C., Go-Go band UCB will serve as the official house band for the night. As his work with Lady Gaga on the song "Chillin' " proves, Wale is no stranger to collaborations, so he should feel right at home when he joins forces with the All-American Rejects, Pitbull and 3OH!3 to perform versions of the year's biggest hits.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards are back in New York this year, and no one represents the Big Apple quite like Jay-Z.
