NEW YORK — For fans of New York hip-hop, it was an amazing sight: 50 Cent surrounded by not just the G-Unit, but D-Block, the Diplomats, Red Café, Cory Gunz, Maino and newcomer Trav. What a moment! On Saturday night, Fif held his first ThisIs50 Music Festival on Governors Island (a longtime military base in New York Harbor that is gradually being transformed into a public park), where some of his favorite artists converged on one stage. "I wanted to make a festival that didn't necessarily have to have an artist [who has a] single in rotation at the time," 50 explained to MTV News at the show. "That doesn't directly reflect good hip-hop. It reflects marketing dollars spent by the major corporations, the companies. Tonight we have everybody that means something to us musically in one spot. When I bring Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino ..." Just then D-Block rolled up. "Check this out, this is impressive: Now we got Jadakiss out here. This is real! Tell me anywhere else you can go where you can see everybody. It represents different portions of hip-hop. You got the Lox, the new young gunners Cory Gunz, Trav, Maino. Jimmy [Jones] and Juelz [Santana] coming. They say New York City, we don't actually get along, that's not true. We could work together and get more money than we can get apart, and they gonna see us do it in the future." Fif's bill also included openers Wale and Kid Cudi, who brought all the hits from their young careers such as "Chillin' " and "Day N' Nite," respectively. Then you had Papoose, Slaughterhouse, the aforementioned Cory Gunz and Trav, then the more established crews — Diplomats, D-Block and G-Unit — closing out. "We mixed it up," Fif said of the set. "We made a set that got all of us rocking. They get to see it properly, so they get to see all of us rocking at different points in the actual sets, not just who got positioned. You know how sometimes you go to the tour and some people's music is louder than others? They fix it. As long as [the audience] leaves saying that everybody that came out to the festival had a good time, it's mission accomplished." The Dips came out with a flurry of their NYC bred hits such as "Gangsta Music" and "Hey Ma." The Unit was next. 50, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo came out to "Crack a Bottle" and Fif threw his leather jacket (probably worth a few thousand dollars) out in the crowd. "Ryder Music" came next, followed by a small piece of "I Get Money." Shortly after Fif rapped his classic line "have a baby by me baby, be a millionaire," the music transitioned to Fif's new single, "Baby by Me." Shortly into that song, Fif instructed DJ Whoo Kid to stop the music. He wasn't getting the reaction he wanted. "Who did you come to see?" he asked. "I know. We in New York City and they don't wanna hear the lovey dovey sh--. You want me to take y'all back? "What Up Gangsta" came next. After "OK, You're Right," Fif turned the stage over to D-Block for a short set. The Yonkers collective rocked the crowd with hardcore tunes such as "Walk Witt Me," "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye" and "Who's Real." The Unit came back out with "Ayo Technology" and a sprinkling of other hits before giving Maino some shine with his big hit "Hi Hater" and "All the Above." Red Café and Wyclef Jean also made guest appearances — Clef jumped in the crowd during his performance. "50 Cent represents the struggle of the black man," Jean proclaimed before going into "Sweetest Girl." 50 Banks and Yayo returned for a fuller, complete version of "I Get Money" and closed, bringing out '90s-era R&B group Intro for their "Funny How Time Flies" — it's one of Fif's favorite records. The ThisIs50 Festival may not be a one-off — Fif said he's thinking about taking the show on the road. Source : MTV

People.com Reports Serena and Venus Williams are ready for some football! The tennis stars are joining Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Gloria and Emilio Estefan in becoming limited ownership partners in the National Football League's Miami Dolphins, PEOPLE has confirmed. The announcement that the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., residents would become the first female African-Americans to hold an ownership stake in a NFL franchise and two of the few African-Americans league-wide to hold this unique distinction was made by Stephen Ross, owner and managing partner of the Dolphins. "I am so excited to be part of such a renowned organization," says Serena. "Having spent so much of my childhood in the area, being involved with a staple of Miami culture is a huge honor. We look forward to many championships and much success together with the Miami Dolphins." Agrees Venus, "I am honored to be a partner in the Miami Dolphins franchise and thankful to owner Stephen Ross for allowing Serena and I to be part of Miami Dolphins history." Promoting Miami as a Melting Pot "We are focused on diversifying our fan base and broadening our reach," Mike Dee, new Chief Executive Officer of the Miami Dolphins, tells PEOPLE. "Having these high profile celebrities owning some of the team will help us get more people to the games and add excitement around the event. And it doesn't hurt that they all love football." To further promote the ethnic diversity that makes Miami a cultural melting pot, the Dolphins will strengthen and improve their entertainment element by getting Lopez, Estefan and Anthony to entertain at games. Anthony's performance is set for during the Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets game Monday Oct. 12 as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. "I'm a huge sports fan," Anthony told PEOPLE in July when his partnership was announced. "These opportunities don't come around too often." In addition to welcoming these new owners to the Dolphins, other celebrity oriented promotions will further tap into Miami's cultural diversity. Rapper T-Pain has updated the Dolphins' out-of-date fight song, and other pop stars such as Fergie, who is a frequent visitor to Miami and a lover of the Dolphins, will perform at football games. Further capitalizing on Miami's strong night club cachet, the Dolphins have also inaugurated an "Orange Carpet," reflecting their team colors. "At every game we are going to host the Orange Carpet leading to our new Ocean Dr. Club VIP area," Dee tells PEOPLE. "This way, any celebrities, former football players, or other sports stars who are attending the game will be seen as they enter the stadium headed for the VIP club." Ross, who bought his share of the team for $1 billion, according to Sports Illustrated, believes Miami is a unique community, a similar city to New York and Los Angeles. He wants to celebrate its prestige with a major celebrity and entertainment mix at the games. "He also wants to put a team on the field that will win," Dee tells PEOPLE, citing that both the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl will be held in Miami this February.

In their latest effort to keep LeBron James in the fold, the Cavaliers have landed Shaquille O'Neal from the Suns in the revival of a deal they tried to make back in February. According to various reports, O'Neal is going to Cleveland in exchange for the same package proposed at last season's trading deadline. The Cavs are sending Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic and a second-round pick in tonight's draft to the Suns. The deal was reached in principle late last night and is expected to be finalized today. By acquiring Shaq, the Cavs hope the 37-year-old O'Neal, who is entering the final season of his contract, has something left and can get James a title. But Shaq alone would not necessarily be enough to help the Cavs to even overtake the Magic in the East. While Shaq enjoyed a bit of a revival last season, the Suns missed the playoffs, and O'Neal is not the same player he was when he was winning three titles with the Lakers from 2000-02. "They didn't give up anything for him in terms of main rotation players," said one Eastern Conference president. "So that's good. But Shaq doesn't give them size in their backcourt to match up with the Magic. And as for being someone who can guard Dwight Howard, Shaq can't do that. The Magic are still better, depending on what happens in free agency." Still, it's a gamble the Cavs felt they had to take. The clock is running as James could be entering free agency in 2010. The Knicks, of course, would like nothing more than to see the Cavs again falter in their quest for a title, since it could give James a reason to leave Cleveland. James can extend his contract this summer. But he is expected to wait to see what the Cavs do to increase his chances of winning a title. Since joining Cleveland in 2003, he has made it to one Finals, in 2007, losing to the Spurs in four games. The Suns, meanwhile, are in a cost-cutting mode and decided that O'Neal's $21million salary was worth dumping. At last season's trading deadline, they decided to pull out of the deal and tried to make a run at the playoffs. Besides Cleveland, Dallas and New Orleans had limited interest in obtaining O'Neal, who has helped Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade win titles. The Knicks had limited interest in Shaq, only because of the money that could come off their books, but never made a serious offer. NEWYORKDAILYNEWS
