Recently Aidem Media Group hung out with with a new artist in the game, Tayana "The Poet" Smith, and WE have the exclusive interview!!
 [Interview] Tayana "The Poet" Smith
Name:

Tayana The Poet Smith

Age:

28

Favorite color:

Gold/Red

Favorite food:

Caribbean Cuisine

Genre of Music:

Hip Hop

Who are some of your roll models when it comes to getting your foot in the music industry?

Sir Lucian Charles Grainge Lauryn Hill, KRS-One, Maya Angelou, Rakim, and Early Tupac.

How long have you been doing music?

I’ve been doing music for 16 years. It’s been my outlet and oxygen since age 12.

How did you come up with the name of your first single?

The idea for my first single came about in the most authentic form, I am THE POET and poetry is my DNA so the single COMPOSITION BOOK is THE POET sharing her pain to the mass. Completely vulnerability displayed in that record.

Now after a long struggle of getting exposure, how do you feel?

I feel like I have more work to do, like THE POET hasn’t made a difference yet.

Word?!? So it can be said that you have a great performance when your doing a show?

Great performance is a understatement. All show dates will be posted via twitter: @Tayanathepoet via instagram: @voiceofthepoet

When is your next single dropping?

My next single Pyramid will be dropping July 04, 2018

What would be the name of your next single or album and why?

The name of my next album is going to be called Rebellion, because I’m going to completely rebel against the metaphorical side of THE POET.

How did you come up with that name for the single?

History is in the name Pyramid, and I wanted to do something totally different from my other music, just to expose a little bit of my consciousness rap abilities.

How long have you been in the music business?

I’ve been in the music business about 5yrs to date. I was more focused on learning the business aspect of the music.

Where can we find your music at?

You can find my music in all digital music stores such as, Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music, Rhadospy, and etc.

If you could do a collabo with any artist who would it be and why?

Most definitely would love to collaborate with Lauryn Hill, KRS-One, Rakim, Loaded Lux, Kendrick Lamar, J.cole, outside of me loving their music theory, all of these artist have one thing in common; Which is the ability to pore out intellect, spiritual, emotional, political, and physical consciousness in their music, and make it relatable.

What is your opinion when it comes to hip-hop and politics?

I really don’t have an opinion about politics in hip hop, as far as HipHop in general it shapes culture rather it leaves a Mark or Scar is clearly up to the Artist.

A few have inspired me,  Michael JacksonBrian McKnight,  Joe,  Brandy,  Kim Burrell,  Darryl Coley,  Prince,  Fred Hammond,  Beyonce, India Arie
What age was you when you got bit by the bug the music bug that is?
I have been surrounded by music since I was born… it runs on both sides from singers to musicians it hit me very early
Who was some of your role models while coming up in the music industry?
Coming up I was exposed to a guy that I will never forget,  he was one of the Head Choir Directors at my church his name was Ricky Linton… his vocals were Ridiculous I mean perfect pitch when he was going over different parts …even when he whistled it was perfect as well,  if I’m not mistaking he worked with Aretha Franklin early on when he was younger,  they’re runs and riffs vocally were very similar.  One of my last conversations I had with him was that I asked him to train me,  He told me yes and I was so excited,  I promised I was going to be a sponge… soaking up all the his techniques.  I shortly found out he was sick,  not to long after he passed and we never got a chance to work together but he was definitely a true role model for me coming up …someone I will never forget!
What made you decide to get in your genre of music?
I have roots in Church and it will always be my foundation… Pop/R&B/Hip Hop and Country is what I connected to when I started my pursuit… So I wanted to leave an Imprint of my own expressing myself through these Genre’s
What's the name of your first single?
Tap Out
How did you come up with the name?
I wanted to choose something that was easy to remember and that Stood out as well,  so those two words together are already familiar with people’s minds so it was a easy decision to make.
What is your feed back on the direction of hip hop?
Hip Hop like every Genre is always evolving and I personally feel that the balance of what is happening with today styles and the foundation that was laid in the very beginning will come together and create
the future of the Genre
If you could do a collabo with any artist who would it be and why?
Brandy,  Beyonce,  Drake,  Kanye,  Taylor Swift to name a few.  The bodies of work these artist’s have laid is Unprecedented,  they all have took risks expressing themselves and I fill that our chemistry will compliment each other to the fullest so I hope in the near future I will be able to work with all of them at some point.
So how does it  feel to get your music out to the masses?
Truly it is a dream come true… or I should say My Dream meeting my Reality and My Reality meeting my Destiny I am Truly Overwhelmed with just knowing I have the opportunity to present my visions,  my perceptions,  my idea's musically to the world.
Tell us a little bit about your self?
I have a Strong Spiritual background…I’ve always had a love for Art in the form of Creating.  I highly respect and have a love for acting… there is nothing like being captured by a moment for those few seconds taking you hostage (Action/Adventure and Sci-fi, and of course Comedy). I’m laid back but I can be very spontaneous… I wouldn’t call myself a comedian but I have made a lot of people laugh… I am Very Determined,  Disciplined,  strong willed,  I'm not afraid to take a risk for what I believe in.  Basketball is my first choice when it comes to sports… My Jump shot is Crazy… No Rim is safe! I have done a lot of Jobs but all Roads have led back to Music… its who I am.

Some of this Music now-a-days are starting to sound just alike. Then Clip Monstar emerged. This Young man has attacked the industry in a "I WILL EARN IT MY SELF, RESPESCT MY HUSTLE" type of way. This Artist is one of our favorite artist! We've finally caught up with Clip. Below we will discuss his New Single "MadBag" one of the best new singles out. Clip! Lets Get it.......[Interview] Introducing Clip Monstar

#1.When did you start rapping and what got you in it? What/Who inspired you to start?

I've always enjoyed making music, producing, ect. Since middle school or as long as I remember. But to actually try out rapping, it was a good friend of mine called Mac, that got me to start writing. I never took anything serious, until 5 years ago when I started Monstar the label.

#2. How would you describe your musical style?

Aggressive, lyrical, inspirational, strange, hype

#3. Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

Eminem, ludacris, cassidy, joyner lucas

#4. How do you manage to separate yourself from all the other rappers that are going hard right now?

My image definitely helps, I also handle my business, I host parties, manage, promote, book, make flyers, a little bit of photography,… I am the total package, minus the singing lol

#5. Congrats on the new single "MadBag". How was your approach with this single different than your previous projects?

Honestly, my first thought for my next single, was to link up with Lil Donald. Because he has a sound that can go in any party scene. And all we did is meet up and knock it out. I wanted to keep lyrical content kind of simple, not too many punchlines, so people in party mode can comprehend and chant.

#6. What are some of the platforms you would like to take on in the future? Meaning (Music Awards, Hiphop Awards....)

Definitely music awards, BET, possibly acting roles, grammies, I want to be noticed on a global scale.

#7. I heard you had a true entourage? That Nothing is regular about Monstar Productions!

Yeah, the entourage is crazy. The following is so dope, because there's always new people that go with me to my shows. I believe I have the most solid, genuine, and diverse team. Hands down.

#8. The streets are talking and Clip Monstar seems to be the topic of the discussion. What makes you so loved in the streets of Atlanta?

I just show love to everyone, and I never put anyone down or feel like I'm above them. I try to put money in everyone's pockets, whether its another artist, a promoter, a DJ. It's all about relationships. I do good business. And I go hard, so you have to respect the hustle.

#9. Who are some artists that you’d like to work with in the future?

Joyner Lucas, eminem of course, but my spotlight right now, is Joyner. That’s my favorite artist out right now., but I am open to work with any artist that is working towards the same goal as me.

#10. What can we expect from you in the near future? Fill us in with what’s going on around you right now.

My next goal is tour!! I've been staying busy with shows every other night. I will be releasing a new EP within few months #Evolve2 Shooting 3 more music videos by summer.

Give a Shout out...... The whole Monstar movement, from the artist to the fighters, models, promoters,,, the entire team. Without a solid team, you can only go so far.

As Clip would say, "Stay true to yourself, but be openminded to different avenues. As an artist, it’s easy to get side tracked or discouraged in this life style. Just keep pushing"

Video After The Jump

Podcaster Taxstone stirred up a hornet's nest Wednesday, May 25, during a Vlad TV interview where he called Tupac Shakur a snitch for what he believes was the late rapper's implication that The Notorious B.I.G. was involved in his 1994 shooting at Quad Studios in New York City.

12350840471?profile=original

Tax also included Cam'Ron in the same category.

In 2005 Cam'Ron was shot while driving his blue Lamborghini in Washington, D. C. At the time he and Jay Z weren't on good terms.

The following year Killa released a Hov diss song titled "You Gotta Love It."

"O.K. First off, you a bitch nigga / Only reason I'm doing this / I'mma just name 5 reasons real quick, got a hundred fifty / First - you stole Rocafella from Dame / Second - you stole Kanye from Dame / Third - you stole Rocawear from Dame / Fourth - I seen the nigga throw that diamond up before them shots was fired," Cam rapped.

12352162490?profile=original

Tax told Vlad that the reference to Roc-A-Fella Records' diamond logo would make police assume Cam was talking about someone from the label, which would make the Harlem rapper a snitch as well.

Cam soon hopped on Instagram and posted a response video.

"I just woke up and some nigga talking about I'm snitching," Cam says. "Let me explain something to y'all motherfuckers. Snitching is when you have paperwork that you tried to send somebody to jail or you sent somebody to jail. Not what you hear in a rap song. Not what you hear in an interview ... interrogation room. Not on the streets, jail bars. I actually went to jail for not snitching, nigga," Killa continued, "I violated my probation for being in D.C. and didn't tell. So I went to jail on Rikers Island for violating my probation."

Cam's video had the following caption.

"#FactsAndFabric I'm not even gonna say a nigga name.. But I'm wit the shits my nigga.. Get off my dick.. Lol.. And get to da money.. #UfinishOrYouDone and stop try and dis Tupac"

Hood Illustrated released their 10th issue #BestInThaMidwest edition and amongst the 17 Faces You Should Know was non other than Chicago born and Stack Or Starve Approved founder, Dough From Da Go.

What is your HOOD Story?
Im defanitely from the neighborhoods and connect with the streets since ive been passionate about the music games years ago. I help those that i feel have a shot, and take it to the next level by assisting with things needed on the admin or marketing level. Im very in tune with the hood, and want to see us come from the bottom and stay at the top.

You are constantly making moves. What are some determining factors that come into place when you are presented with these different opportunities to grow your brand?
Believing in God, staying humble and keeping a dope work ethic. I think im the hardest working one out of the midwest, and i say that with confidence. Its all in the hustle at the end of the day. Ive got alot of people i look up to and carry those blue prints and blend em with my hustle and expertise and move how im suppose to move. I think its all in your ambition and consistency.
Who Is Dough From Da Go? Hustler, Entrepreneur,  Promoter, Etc… ( What Defines you as a brand)
Defanitely a hustler. Entrepreneur and visonary when it comes to the indpendents and being a resource to help other brands remain large and become large.
What currently motivates you to continue and grind it out like you do?
Passion as well as paying attention to the past and current winners of our time. Legacy and respect is real important to me, i take everything i do seriously and move
with certain mannerisms in order to be respected amongst the elite. In addition im just motivated by life, journey and being better with everything i do.
What can we expect from you this year?  Are you working on any projects, Endorsing any additional brands, etc…
Alot of work. The Relaunch Of "Stack Or Starve Approved" as well as "Female Flow" with my Business partner and long time friend, Missy B.  Of course working heavy with Def Jam...alot of artists dropping this year. Also fucking with 300 Ent. Sony/ RED and a few other labels on the major side. My clothing Brand "Bag Language" will be launching two season lines, also my new website is being developed where we will showcase and highlight whos grinding the indy scene. I have a handful of artists im breaking into the game: Ray iLLa, Hardknock, also a female by the name of Keish Keish, a couple artists on my radar also are: ChinChilla Meek from Harvey, IL & an artist named from Chicago named Tony Cartel. Im also going to be taking Lil Mouse to a new level. I am back producing also, i am going to shock people with the new production, we are dropping a total of 5 projects this year, Ep's & albums with my brothers Producer SC & Tony Baines. We gonna bring that vibe back to the city for sure. Im excited about the ventures & works ahead.... Eveyrthingz Workin'!!!
Many artist / brands have a lane that they are comfortable moving in. If you had to describe your lane and where you feel the  most comfortable what would that lane be?
The lane of observation, the humble lane but the dont take no shit lane. Im very key on relationships, but kissing ass was never a sport i played lol. #RealRecognizeReal
What is your ultimate goal for the Stack or Starve brand?
Well i feel we have already set trends and had success at breaking artists in the market and taking the dj crew to the next level as well as putting out classic projects. Now we want to continue breaking artists on a new level and let the new mixtape brands come in and do their thing. But ultimately its going to be doing some big tours and taking the brand to a corporate level.

Why should consumers support your movement / buy the brands you push.  What separates you
from every other brand ambassador?
Independence first and foremost. We stay authentic to the streets and we also have an ear for talent as well as remain respected based on not forgetting where we come from.
Im absolutely always confident that consumers are satisfied with our quality and vision for out presentations when it comes to the products and services. In addition, what seperates myself from these other brand ambassadors is im always ahead of the game and thinking of the next move to become the best move!
What do you want to tell the HOOD Illustrated Readers about Dough From Da Go? What are your last words to the HOOD?
Rock with me, reach out to me @DoughFromDaGo on social media DoughFromDaGo@gmail.com , lets chop it up and take the visions to the next level. Im always working and always applying pressure to the game. Shouts to the HOOD and big shouts to Hood illustrated for staying 1000 with me and the grind throughout the years! Bless up!
