HOUSTON (Click2Houston) – One of two suspects tied to the River Oaks area fatal drive-by shooting of an up-and-coming entertainer has been identified, according to the Houston Police Department.
Montrel Lenard Burley, 40, has been charged with murder in the death of Darrell Gentry, a 26-year-old rapper from the Cleveland area known as BTB Savage.
The shooting happened on the night of March 30 at around 6:10 p.m. in the 4600 block of San Felipe Street at Mid Lane.
Houston police Chief Troy Finner said officers arrived to find Gentry dead outside the entrance of a parking garage. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
Investigators learned that the victim was driving a white Mercedes northbound on Mid Lane when a black, newer model Subaru SUV drove up and began firing at the vehicle.
Witnesses told police the 2 suspects fled in the black Subaru SUV at a high rate of speed following the shooting.
Further investigation led to the identity of Burley as one of the suspects & he was subsequently charged in the shooting. He remains on the loose.
Brutal Nazi Torture of Black German Boy Gert Schramm in Nazi Germany - Buchenwald - World War 2. Despite the Nuremberg Laws, some Black people and so called German “Aryans” still became romantically involved with one another. These relationships were dangerous for both partners, especially if they chose to try to legally marry. In Nazi Germany, everyone was required to apply for permission to marry. When interracial couples applied, their applications were consistently denied for racial reasons. These applications brought their interracial relationships to the attention of government authorities. This often had dire consequences for the couple. In multiple cases, marriage applications resulted in harassment, sterilization and the breaking up of partnerships.
Legal couples whose marriages pre-dated the Nuremberg Laws were harassed by the Nazi regime. The regime pressured white German women to divorce their Black husbands. Interracial couples and their children were often humiliated and even assaulted when they appeared together in public.
Like their parents, many Black children in Germany experienced the Nazi era as a time of increased loneliness, isolation, and exclusion. Some Black children felt German and wanted to be a part of the excitement. But Nazi racial ideology had no place for Black-German children. For Black children in Nazi Germany, schools became sites of humiliation. Black children were often degraded in racial science classes and ridiculed by teachers who supported the Nazis.
Just as the Nazification of the education system greatly restricted the rights of Jewish children to attend public schools, it also impacted Black children over the course of the 1930s. Some Black students were expelled and unable to complete their education. Few private schools would accept Black students and finding apprenticeships, which in Germany was crucial to find employment, became increasingly difficult.
Such was a case of Gert Schramm.
After completing elementary school, he worked as a helper in a car repair shop. According to the Nuremberg Laws, he was denied the right to any apprenticeship as a “Mischling of the first grade”. Mischling was a pejorative legal term used in Nazi Germany to denote persons of mixed "Aryan" and non-Aryan ancestry as codified in the Nuremberg racial laws of 1935.
Most of the Black people living under the Nazi Regime were effectively trapped there.
While some tried to leave, for the vast majority this was not possible as they could not receive visas to other countries or legally immigrate elsewhere because of citizenship issues. Eventually, Black people in Germany had little choice but to adapt to life under the Nazis.
The second world war began on the 1st of September, 1939 with the invasion of Poland.
During World War II, Nazi policies against Black people became more extreme. This occurred in the context of the broader radicalization of Nazi policies against supposed racial and political enemies. Because of laws and policies that sharpened discrimination and racism in Germany, many Black people ended up imprisoned in workhouses, prisons, hospitals, psychiatric facilities, and concentration camps. In 1941, Jack Brankson, Gert’s father, was arrested during one of his visits to Germany on the basis of the Nazi racial laws and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. There is no trace of him after that.
However, Gert Schramm was no exception either.
He was arrested in May 1944. Officially, he was taken into "protective custody" by the Gestapo under the Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor as his father was an Afro-American man. For weeks, he was moved from one Gestapo prison to another, denied food and water, beaten up, hit in the face and knocked around until on the 20th of July 1944 when he was finally deported to Buchenwald concentration camp which was one of the largest concentration camps established within German borders. He was 15 years old when the gate with the inscription „Jedem das Seine“ meaning “ to each what he deserves” closed behind him.
From that moment on Gert was not called by his name anymore. He became only a number: 49489 which was tattooed onto his left arm. His sentence was an unspecified time, to be no less than fifteen years...
2 juveniles were arrested while a third underage suspect remains at large in connection with the shooting deaths of 3 teenagers in Florida.
Christopher Atkins, 12, & Robert Robinson, 17, have been charged with first-degree murder in the killings that happened in less than a 48 hour period between March 30 & April 1 in Ocklawaha.
A third suspect, 16-year-old Tahj Brewton, is still being sought by authorities.
Layla Silvernail, 16, Camille Quarles, 16 & a 17-year-old boy – who has yet to be identified – were all found shot to death in 3 separate locations.
Sheriff Billy Woods revealed Friday that he believes all 3 victims were involved in burglaries & robberies & both the victims & suspects were allegedly "associated with a gang."
"Basically, in simple terms there is no honor among thieves," the sheriff said at a press conference. "And at some point, these 3 individuals turned on our 3 victims & murdered them."
Silvernail was the first victim to be found by investigators just before 11 p.m on March 30 laying on the side of the road suffering from a gunshot wound.
The girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Deputies said the next morning, around 8 a.m., a 17-year-old boy who'd been fatally shot was located on the side of the road. His identity has not been revealed.
Then on April 1, at about 12:30 p.m., investigators found the body of Quarles inside the trunk of Silvernail's abandoned car which was partially submerged near the edge of a small lake. She had also been fatally shot.

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — Someone claiming to be the Mexican drug cartel allegedly responsible for the abduction of 4 Americans & the killing of 2 of them has condemned the violence & purportedly turned over its own members who were involved to authorities.
In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the Scorpions faction of the Gulf cartel allegedly responsible for abducting the Americans apologized to the residents of Matamoros, the Mexican woman who died in the shooting & the & Americans & their families.
Drug cartels have been known to issue communiques to intimidate rivals & authorities, but also at times like these to do some public relations work to try to smooth over situations that could affect their business.
“We have decided to turn over those who were directly involved and responsible in the events, who at all times acted under their own decision-making & lack of discipline,” the letter reads, adding that those individuals had gone against the cartel’s rules, which include “respecting the life & well-being of the innocent.”
A photograph of 5 men face down on the pavement & bound accompanied the letter, which was shared with The AP by the source on condition that they remain anonymous because they were not authorized to share the document.
A separate state security official said that 5 men had been found tied up inside one of the vehicles that authorities had been searching for, along with the letter.
Last Friday, 4 Americans crossed into Matamoros from Texas so that 1 of them could get a cosmetic surgery procedure. Around midday they were fired on & then loaded into a pickup truck.

A submarine with 2 dead bodies & nearly 3 tons of cocaine aboard was seized in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Colombia, the country's navy announced Sunday. 2 survivors "in poor health" were also found on the vessel & given first aid.
"These people's poor health state is presumably due to the inhalation of toxic fumes caused by fuel problems inside the boat," Captain Cristian Andres Guzman Echeverry said.
The 50-foot-long submarine was carrying almost 5,800 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $87 million. The navy said the vessel had been bound for countries in Central America.
The rescued men, the 2 victims & the seized drugs were brought to Tumaco, "where they were presented to the Technical Investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office."
So-called "narco subs" are commonly used by traffickers in the region to transport drugs. Last year, the Colombian navy seized a semi-submersible vessel carrying 4 tons of cocaine worth about $150 million.
The submarines sometimes make it all the way to North America. In 2019, a submarine carrying 12,000 pounds of cocaine worth more than $165 million was seized by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Two of the four Americans kidnapped in Mexico have been found dead, while the other two have been found alive, according to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
One of those found alive was injured, Tamaulipas Gov. Américo Villarreal said Tuesday.
Emergency medical services and security are responding to the situation, the governor added.
The American citizens crossed into Matamoros, in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas just south of Brownsville, Texas, in a white minivan with North Carolina plates on Friday, according to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
"Shortly after crossing into Mexico, unidentified gunmen shot the passengers of the vehicle," the embassy said. "The gunmen herded the four U.S. citizens into another vehicle and fled the scene with them."
The four Americans were identified as Zindell Brown, Eric James Williams and cousins Latavia "Tay" McGee and Shaeed Woodard.
McGee's mother, Barbara Burgess, told ABC News that her daughter traveled from South Carolina to Mexico for a cosmetic medical procedure.
On Friday, the day of the appointment, Burgess said McGee called to say she was 15 minutes away from the doctor's office. Burgess called McGee later that day but never heard back, she said.
The Americans were taken after getting caught in the middle of a confrontation between groups, according to Mexico's president, who told reporters Monday that they "crossed the border to buy medicines in Mexico."

CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- 2 brothers were found guilty of murder in connection with the death of a groom at his 2019 wedding reception in Chino, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
According to a jury verdict rendered on Feb. 9, Rony & Josue Castaneda were guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Joe Melgoza.
The Castaneda brothers were also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon for injuries to the bride's brother.
Joe & Esther Melgoza were married on Dec. 14, 2019. The groom was celebrating his wedding hours before the violent incident occurred in the early morning hours Dec. 15, at a reception.
"Although the Casteneda brothers did not have any apparent connection to the wedding party, they lived nearby & likely heard the festivities and went to the reception, uninvited," the DA's statement said. "At the reception, the brothers were seen socializing, dancing & taking photos with female guests."
The brothers left but later returned, unbeknownst to Melgoza and his family, armed with baseball bats.
"Standing in the dark behind a fence they made antagonizing statements to Melgoza to jump over the fence to their side. Once Melgoza & his family jumped the fence, the brothers began hitting them all with bats & fists."
A family member was able to take a bat from one of the Castaneda brothers, who ran into a nearby home. Melgoza, who was unarmed, followed them.
Chino police officers responded to the scene & found Melgoza dead in the yard where the Castaneda brothers were last seen. Melgoza's official cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Rony & Josue Castaneda are scheduled to be sentenced on March 13.

A Tennessee restaurant owned by hip hop star Yo Gotti is the site of a mass shooting that's killed 2 people & left at least 5 others injured.
Cops were called to Prive restaurant in Memphis around 11:30 PM Wednesday after a barrage of gunfire erupted in the parking lot, following a confrontation inside the restaurant that eventually spilled outside.
We're told one man was found dead in the parking lot & the other passed away at a hospital.
Police say 4 other men & 1 woman were also sprayed with bullets. All of them were driven in private vehicles to hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not released.
While Gotti does own Prive, a source tells us he was not in Memphis last night & none of his family members are among the victims.
The assailant or assailants fled & are still at large. Police have not said what triggered the initial altercation.
Images surfaced online showing officers investigating the scene with crime tape around the perimeter of the restaurant & patrol cars parked in front.
You might recall, Prive was temporarily closed in November 2021 for fear of retaliation violence after rapper Young Dolph was murdered about 10 miles away in Memphis. Police officers stood guard outside the establishment, but nothing happened.
