Hollywood icon Billy Dee Williams, in a recent interview with Esquire, revealed that he considers himself both masculine and feminine and is not afraid to express his femininity. His comment led readers to assume that he was describing himself as "gender fluid." However, in his most recent interview, he clarified that he has no idea what the term means.
"I never tried to be anything except myself," the Star Wars star said in his initial interview. "I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn't take himself or herself too seriously... I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I'm a very soft person. I'm not afraid to show that side of myself."
In the wake of many commending the actor for opening up about his apparent "coming out" at 82 years old, Williams spoke with The Undefeated to clear some things up. He started out by admitting that he had never heard the term "gender fluid" before learning about it on social media, most recently.
"What the hell is 'gender fluid?'" he asked. "What I was talking about was about men getting in touch with the softer side of themselves. There's a phrase that was coined by Carl G. Jung... that's 'Anima animus.' And anima means that is the female counterpart of the male self and the animus is the male counterpart of the female. So, that's what I was referring to."
He went a bit further, clarifying that he was not talking about sexuality in his initial comments.
"I was talking about men getting in touch with the female side of themselves," he continued. "I wasn't talking about sex. I wasn't talking about gay or straight."
To further drive his point in, he added, "I'm not gay — by any stretch of the imagination. Not that I have anything against gay people. But personally? [I am] not gay."

The man accused of abducting and murdering Aniah Blanchard went off in court Wednesday -- telling the judge, "Y'all have no video, no audio of me shooting anyone!"
Ibraheem Yazeed appeared with his attorney in an Alabama courtroom Wednesday to face capital murder charges in the death of Blanchard, step-daughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris. Prosecutors have said they're pursuing the death penalty.
Yazeed was initially charged with 1st-degree kidnapping -- and when he appeared in court for the new, more serious charge ... he was not happy.
"I got rights too," Yazeed told the judge.
"Y'all have no video, no audio of me shooting anyone, that’s why I’m trying to see how y’all going to bind me over on hearsay. But y’all aren’t presenting no evidence."
Officials have video showing Yazeed at the same gas station where Blanchard was last seen before her disappearance.
A witness also claims Yazeed forced Blanchard into her car -- which was later found covered in blood.
Cops believe Yazeed ultimately shot Blanchard to death and then hid her body in a wooded area.
Officials say there is a NEW witness who saw Yazeed with a gun tucked into his shorts while in possession of Blanchard's car.
Officials say the witness claimed Yazeed had admitted to shooting a girl and that the girl had "went for the gun" before he murdered her.
In other words, Aniah fought back.
It seems this new witness -- unnamed in the court doc to protect the person's identity -- was the key to finding Blanchard's body.
Two other people have also been charged in this case -- but prosecutors say they believe Yazeed acted alone in killing Blanchard.

WATERTOWN, Conn. (WTNH/CNN) - Two teenage siblings were shot dead in their Connecticut home after police say a domestic argument with their mother’s boyfriend escalated.
Police responded to a 911 call from a Watertown, Connecticut, home Tuesday night and found 15-year-old Della Jette and 16-year-old Sterling Jette Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. The teenagers were transported to the hospital, where they died shortly after arrival.
"It was mostly a shock. I didn't expect something to happen in that house,” said Garrett Kowalski, a friend who grew up with the siblings. "Him and Della were the glue to our friend group, so we're all going through a hard time."
Officers also found the mother’s boyfriend and suspected shooter, 42-year-old Paul Ferguson, in the home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the teenagers’ mother, Danielle Jette, told them Ferguson and Della Jette had gotten into an argument over the man smoking in the home.
As the argument escalated, police say Ferguson armed himself with a handgun. When Sterling Jette tried to intervene in the fight, he was shot in the leg. Police say Ferguson then shot both teens in the chest.
After, Ferguson closed himself in a bedroom and allegedly shot himself in the head.
Police say Ferguson had moved into the home some time in November. He was a convicted felon, charged with sexual assault that was pleaded down to unlawful restraint, and should not have had a firearm.
Danielle Jette is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
