NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A 16-year-old girl who was apparently kidnapped right in front of her mother staged the whole thing, sources told CBS2.
The apparent kidnapping in the Bronx was staged by Karol Sanchez, who confessed to it after being reunited with her family Tuesday.
No charges have been filed at this time, but police are looking for four male accomplices.
The surveillance video would send chills through any parent: Four men snatching a 16-year-old off a Bronx Street.
Sources say it was all staged Sanchez, who was unhappy, and four accomplices.
Blurry surveillance video showed the scene in the Melrose section of the Bronx near 775 Eagle Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Monday.
The video shows four men in a sedan pull up to Sanchez and her mother, grab the girl and push the mom to the ground.
The NYPD put out an Amber Alert and flooded the neighborhood with missing posters.
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sanchez suddenly showed back up at the scene and turned herself into police as stunned people on the street watched.
“We was at the pole over there, looking at her picture, and we walked up the block, she was crossing the street to to the the cop car, and I was like ‘Yo, that’s her right there,'” said Tommy Feliciano.
“She was shaken up. She was bending over, grabbing her knees, and discussing with the police. And that’s when they took her into the parking garage for questioning,” Zani Koxha said.
Sanchez was brought to the 40th Precinct stationhouse, where sources told CBS2 she staged the whole thing with four accomplices. Family issues are apparently at the root of her unhappiness.
The NYPD wants to talk to all involved before deciding who, if anyone, to charge.
All day, residents had worried about Sanchez, and kept a close eye on their own children. They worried about Sanchez’s mother. Witnesses say she was distraught Monday night after her daughter was driven away.
“She was just screaming ‘My daughter, my daughter, my God, someone please help me.’ She was screaming hysterically. And I was looking, wondering what was going on. She was just screaming in the street,” one witness said.
Sanchez and her family live in Dutchess County but have been visiting relatives in the Bronx.

A Honolulu Police officer has pleaded guilty to depriving a homeless man his civil rights by making him lick a urinal last January.
John Rabago, 43, admitted to telling 37-year-old Samuel Ingall that he could avoid arrest — but only if he was willing to humiliate himself and potentially expose himself to all kinds of alarming bacteria in the process.
A former officer also charged with Rabago pleaded guilty in September to failing to report that Rabago forced the homeless man to lick the urinal.
Reginald Ramones, 43, who left the department in August, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge that he knew a fellow officer committed a civil rights violation and didn't inform authorities.
Ramones says Rabago convinced him not to report it.
Though Rabago had initially claimed his comments were a joke that got misconstrued, Ramones, said that the threat was entirely serious.
Both defendants are slated to be sentenced in February and face fines up to $250,000. Ramones, who reportedly left the Honolulu Police Department in August, could be sentenced to up to three years in prison, though the government is expected to recommend he only receive probation. Rabago faces up to 10 years in prison. According to Hawaii News Now, he is on leave from the Honolulu Police Department and expects to be fired now that the case has concluded.

A 16-year-old girl who was kidnapped Monday night has made a safe return home, police said.
Karol Sanchez was walking along Eagle Avenue near East 156th Street at around 11:20 p.m. with her mother when two men stepped out of a vehicle, grabbed her and dragged her inside the car, according to the New York City Police Department.
On Tuesday, she was located after she walked up to her relatives’ apartment building in the Bronx, sources told ABC News.
Sanchez has since met with police and is now on her way to the local precinct, the sources said.
Grainy surveillance video showed the apparent kidnapping and Sanchez's mom can be seen in a struggle with one of the men before he pushes her to the ground.
She was left at the scene and was not injured, according to police.
The car could be seen fleeing east bound on East 156th Street.
Two other men were in the car at the time of the kidnapping, police said.
Authorities described the vehicle as a beige-colored four-door sedan.
An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday in New York and authorities feared she may be in "imminent danger of serious bodily harm and/or death," according to the Amber Alert.

Boosie Badazz hates Mondays, like most of us -- actually, probably more -- because someone broke into his ride, and made off with some pricey rings and a $50,000 necklace!
While the rapper was grabbing a bite to eat at a Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen outside Atlanta, the perps smashed the rear passenger side window of his Bentley SUV ... according to police.
A man named Brian Wilcott reported the break-in, saying he saw a younger-looking black male by the car reaching into it. Wilcott -- better known as rapper B-Will -- works with Boosie and told cops he gave chase, but a suspect jumped into a waiting car and fled.
According to the police report ... B-Will says 3 pieces of his jewelry were stolen -- a "super bowl style" diamond ring valued at $10k, a large rose gold one with the diamond letters "BOSSMAN" valued at $10k, and a rose gold Cuban link chain with diamonds valued at $50k.
Although B-Will told cops the jewelry is his, it's interesting ... because we know Boosie has a "BOSSMAN" ring, and the rapper ranted on social media about it getting jacked, and even threatened the suspects.
Cops say they reviewed surveillance footage from the restaurant, which shows 2 black males dressed in black messing with Boosie's Bentley ... which set off the alarm. The report says the 2 men drove away, but quickly returned to the vehicle, then sped off for good ... at which point B-Will is seen running after them.
We're told no arrests have been made so far.

A father was brutally murdered on his wedding day and his family says it happened during the reception as he tried to protect his guests.
Joe Melgoza, 30, was celebrating with his new bride Saturday night into Sunday at a backyard wedding reception at her sister's Chino home.
“My brother did not deserve to die like that, he was a good man, he was a solid man,” Andy Velasquez, Melgoza’s brother, says through sobs. He’s surrounded by three more of Melgoza’s siblings.
Chino police say two brothers identified as Rony and Josue Castañeda Ramirez came to the reception uninvited. They didn't know the groom but lived nearby.
They were asked to leave but came back to the home near Oaks and Chino avenues.
“Those cowards came back with bats. They were in the alley and it was dark… My brother tried to go get them. They pulled him into the house and they killed him,” Velasquez said.
Melgoza was found in the backyard of another home where he died, leaving behind an 11-year-old daughter and his new bride.
Chino police say the two suspects were arrested Sunday.
“I’m so lost without you Joe, I’m so lost,” Velasquez said as he cried into his hands.
Melgoza's mother and siblings say they will now take care of his 11-year-old daughter, who he had full custody of.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover Melgoza's funeral costs and to support his daughter. His brothers and sisters are heartbroken, left without the father figure of their family.

A 16-year-old girl was grabbed off a Bronx street right in front of her mother Monday night -- and police are investigating the case as a possible kidnapping, authorities say. An Amber Alert was issued at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Karol Sanchez and her mother, who are from Poughquag in Dutchess County, were in the city for a doctor's appointment earlier Monday. They were walking to a train station on Jackson Avenue around 11:30 p.m. when four men in a tan four-door sedan pulled up, according to law enforcement sources and police. Two men got out, pulled Sanchez in and drove off.
Her 36-year-old mother was pushed to the ground in the scuffle but she was not physically hurt, according to police. The suspect, described as men in their 20s, left her behind and she called 911. Dark surveillance footage shows the grab; two forms leap out of vehicle and grab another form off the street as rain appears to pour down. The car flees the scene with the girl.
It was last seen traveling east on Eagle Avenue, the state Amber Alert page says, adding, "The child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death."
Sanchez is described as being about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 150 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a dark blue short jacket, a white sweater, blue jeans and black sneakers, according to the NYPD.

Kanye West and Jay-Z's friendly greeting at Diddy's 50th is no surprise to people close to them -- turns out they've squashed their legal feud, and have already gotten back to making money together.
You'll recall ...both members of the "Watch the Throne" duo lawyered up in 2017 when Ye split from Tidal, Jay's streaming service. Kanye said he was owed $3.5 mil, and their professional relationship was on ice.
Cut to Saturday night at Diddy's crib ... where they smiled, shook hands and seemed totally cool with each other ... because they are. Sources connected to both moguls tell us they quietly reached an agreement in the Tidal lawsuit earlier this year. We're told both men are satisfied with the outcome and they're moving forward.
Case in point ... when Kanye put on his first opera, "Nebuchadnezzar," last month at the Hollywood Bowl ... it streamed exclusively on Tidal. We're told there will be future collabs for Ye and Tidal, too.
Of course, they've had an up and down relationship -- putting it mildly -- for years ... even before the Tidal lawsuit. Kanye was famously upset that Beyonce and Jay-Z didn't attend his wedding to Kim Kardashian -- and went off on him during a 20-minute rant onstage in 2016.
Seven months later, Jay dropped his "4:44" album, and the track, "Kill Jay-Z" featured lyrics clearly firing back at Ye for that rant.
Although people were surprised to see their "reunion" at Diddy's party ... our sources say Jay and Kanye have crossed paths from time to time in the last year, and have been totally cordial with each other. Diddy's event was just the most public meeting.
We're told they've put the legal wranglings behind them, and money's no longer an issue between them -- after all, they've both got mountains of it. While their biz beef is buried, and they've repaired their fractured personal relationship ... don't expect "Watch the Throne 2" anytime soon.
Ye's promised he's only doing the Lord's music from here on, so ... IF it does ever happen, guess we'd just be watching a different throne.
