A notorious New York mobster who killed three people and attempted to kill two others has escaped from federal custody after recently being moved to a halfway house, according to the Bureau of Prisons. Dominic Taddeo, a hit man from a Rochester-area crime family, escaped on March 28, according to the Bureau of Prisons website.
Taddeo, 64, had been imprisoned at a medium-security lockup in Florida before being transferred to a residential halfway house, also in Florida, in February.
He failed to return from an authorized medical appointment and "was placed on escape status" on Monday, a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson said.
Taddeo pleaded guilty in 1992 to racketeering charges that included the killings of three men during mob wars in the 1980s. In 1982 and 1983, Taddeo shot Nicholas Mastrodonato, Gerald Pelusio and Dino Tortatice to death.
A federal judge in western New York denied Taddeo's request for compassionate release last year, rejecting his claim that health problems including hypertension and obesity put him at risk for serious complications from COVID-19. Prosecutors said medical records did not show that Taddeo was particularly unhealthy.

Will Smith sticking around at the Oscars, after slapping Chris Rock, is NOT what the Academy wanted -- but he dug in his heels when they tried to give him the boot.
That's the new startling claim from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which fired off a letter Wednesday, announcing their Board of Governors has begun disciplinary proceedings on Will for violating their Standards of Conduct.
In the letter they write ... "Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently."
That's pretty shocking, especially since the speculation up to this point was that the Academy and the show producers allowed Will to stay until his Best Actor category was announced -- something for which they've been heavily criticized.
They go on to say this about the whole thing in terms of logistics ... "consistent with the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, as well as California law, Mr. Smith is being provided at least 15 days' notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response."
The Board further explains that at their next meeting on April 18, they'll have a decision on his punishment -- which could include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions permitted their bylaws.
Sources who were present at the Oscars tell TMZ, the 2 Academy officials who told Will Smith to leave were David Rubin, the President of the Academy, and Dawn Hudson, the CEO. We're told they were "furious" at Will, and there was plenty of "yelling" and "heated conversations" backstage with Will's reps after the incident. As one source put it, the Academy officials were "apoplectic." We're also told they told him to leave shortly after the slap.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A man has been charged with murder in the death of a 9-year-old girl who was shot when fights broke out in the courtyard of an apartment complex in New Jersey’s capital city.
Isiah Roberts, 19, of Trenton, also faces two counts of aggravated assault and two weapons offenses, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday. It wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the courtyard of the Kingsbury Square apartments in Trenton. Police responding to reports of fights and possible shots fired there found the victim, Sequoya Bacon-Jones, who had been shot once. She was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
Authorities have said they don’t think the child was the intended target, but the investigation is ongoing. It’s also not clear if the shooting was related to the fight.
No other serious injuries were reported.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson should start cleaning out her drawers at the Court of Appeals, because she's headed to higher ground -- the U.S. Supreme Court.
Republican Senator Susan Collins just revealed she'll support the nom, which all but assures her confirmation. With a 50-50 split, Collins will provide the cushion so the Veep doesn't have to cast a tiebreaker. What's more, Collins could open the door for more Republican support, although don't count on it.
Collins said, "After reviewing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's extensive record, watching much of her hearing testimony, and meeting with her twice in person, I have concluded that she possesses the experience, qualifications, and integrity to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. I will, therefore, vote to confirm her to this position."
Collins met with Brown Tuesday for a second time, and said after the meeting that the Judge had provided clarification on certain issues ... unclear what those issues were.
Brown would become the first female Black justice in the Court's history.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A brawl in a Fort Lauderdale hotel lobby, started by a man accused of yelling racial slurs at an employee, came to an end with the employee behind bars. But now, civil rights attorney Ben Crump is questioning why the employee, who he says was defending himself, was arrested in the first place.
The scene played out at a Best Western Hotel back in January.
Fort Lauderdale police say they’re aware of the video and they’re investigating it.
Everything that happened in the video comes after Raymond Rachal canceled a hotel guest’s stay, because, he says, the man was making racial slurs at him. That same hotel guest, identified as Jason Rabe, leaves the property, but then comes back. All of it is caught on camera.
The video starts with Rachal, an employee at the Best Western Hotel, sitting behind the front desk. Rabe walks into the frame & walking with a purpose, heads directly towards Rachal. He immediately opens the security gate & that’s when you see Rachal punch him in the face.
From there, a fight breaks out, taking the two men to the ground. Another man runs over to help as Rachal punches Rabe several more times. Then, Rachal holds Rabe in a headlock until police arrive. As soon as they get there, you see Rachal stand right up. He’s then pushed several times by police officers as he references the security camera.
Finally, you see Rachal taken away in handcuffs.
He was initially accused of several charges, including resisting officers with violence, but not one time was that seen on the surveillance video.

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) — David Frodsham was a top civilian commander at a U.S. air base in Afghanistan when he “jokingly” asked an IT technician for access to YouPorn, the video-sharing pornographic website.
During his time in the war zone, Frodsham told one woman that he hired her because he “wanted to be surrounded by pretty women,” & routinely called others “honey,” “babe,” & “cougar” before he was ordered home after the military verified multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
When Frodsham returned to his home station in fall 2015, he rejoined the Network Enterprise Technology Command, the Army’s information technology service provider, where he had served as director of personnel for a global command of 15,000 soldiers & civilians.
By spring of the following year, he was arrested in Arizona for leading a child sex abuse ring that included an Army sergeant who was posting child pornography to the internet. Among the victims was one of Frodsham’s adopted sons
Frodsham pleaded guilty to sex abuse charges in 2016 & is serving a 17-year sentence. But records reviewed by the AP show that the U.S. Army & the state of Arizona missed or ignored multiple red flags over more than a decade, which allowed Frodsham to allegedly abuse his adopted son & other children for years, all the while putting national security at risk.
The state permitted Frodsham & his wife, Barbara, to foster, adopt and retain custody of their many children despite nearly 20 complaints & attempted complaints, of abuse, neglect, maltreatment & licensing violations. Meanwhile, the Army gave Frodsham security clearances & sensitive jobs at a time when his illicit sexual practices made him vulnerable to blackmail.
Frodsham, former Sgt. Randall Bischak & a third man not associated with the Army are all serving prison terms for the roles they played in the child sex abuse ring. But the investigation is continuing because Sierra Vista police believe additional men took part.
Now, the criminal investigation is spilling over into civil court, where 2 of Frodsham’s adopted sons have filed separate lawsuits against the state for licensing David & Barbara Frodsham as foster parents in a home where they say they were physically & sexually abused throughout their lives.
A third adopted son is expected to file suit Tuesday in Arizona state court in Cochise County.
