HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) — 7 people were killed in 2 related shootings Monday at agricultural facilities in a California coastal community south of San Francisco & a suspect was in custody.

4 people were found dead and a fifth injured from gunshot wounds at one location, & 3 others were found dead at another several miles away, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office said.

Details about the locations weren’t immediately clear. Sheriff Christina Corpus said they were nurseries.

The shootings occurred on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay.

Officers arrested 67-year-old Chunli Zhao in connection with the shooting.

Officials believe Zhao is a worker at 1 of the facilities & that the victims were workers as well. Some workers at one facility lived on the premises & children may have witnessed the shooting, Corpus said. The connection between the new facilities wasn’t clear.

Corpus said officials hadn’t determined a motive for the shooting, though county Board of Supervisors President Dave Pine described the suspect as a “disgruntled worker.”

The shooting was the nation’s sixth mass shooting this year & followed the killing of 11 people late Saturday at a ballroom dance hall in Southern California.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — 2 teenage students were killed Monday & a man was seriously injured in what police said was a targeted shooting at an alternative educational program that was designed to keep at-risk youth away from trouble. The injured man was identified as the program’s founder — a rapper who left a life of violence & was dedicated to helping youth in Des Moines.

3 people were arrested shortly after the shooting at the educational program called Starts Right Here, police said. Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie identified the injured adult as William Holmes — who goes by the stage name Will Keeps & said the victims & those arrested were all teenagers.

“That brings a total of 5 families of teenagers affected by youth gun violence in a matter of minutes on a Monday afternoon,” Cownie said. “This is a growing & alarming phenomenon in our country & one we’ve seen too often in the past and again today.”

Starts Right Here is an educational program affiliated with the Des Moines school district. The 2 students died at a hospital. The adult, later identified by the mayor as Keeps, was in serious condition & police said he was in surgery Monday evening.

Police said officers stopped a car that matched witnesses’ descriptions about 2 miles away & took 3 people into custody. Police said 1 person ran from the car, but officers tracked that person down with a K-9.

“The incident was definitely targeted. It was not random. There was nothing random about this,” Sgt. Paul Parizek said. But he said the motive for the shooting was unknown.

The Starts Right Here program, which helps at-risk youth in grades 9-12, was founded in 2021 by Keeps.

“The school is designed to pick up the slack & help the kids who need help the most,” Parizek said. Police did not say whether the teenagers in custody were students at the program.

" Hidden Truth " (New EP)

NEW YORK (AP) — A former high-ranking FBI counterintelligence official has been indicted on charges he helped a Russian oligarch, in violation of U.S. sanctions. He was also charged, in a separate indictment, with taking cash from a former foreign security officer.

Charles McGonigal, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s counterintelligence division in New York from 2016 to 2018, is accused in an indictment unsealed Monday of working with a former Soviet diplomat-turned-Russian interpreter on behalf of Oleg Deripaska, a Russian billionaire.

McGonigal, who had supervised investigations of Russian oligarchs, including Deripaska, before retiring in 2018, allegedly worked to have Deripaska’s sanctions lifted in 2019 & took money from him in 2021 to investigate a rival oligarch.

McGonigal, 54, & the interpreter, Sergey Shestakov, 69, were arrested Saturday. McGonigal was taken into custody after landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport. They are scheduled to appear in court in Manhattan on Monday. Both are being held at a federal jail in Brooklyn.

McGonigal & Shestakov are charged with violating & conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, conspiring to commit money laundering & money laundering. Shestakov is also charged with making material misstatements to the FBI.

McGonigal was separately charged in federal court in Washington, D.C. with concealing $225,000 in payments he received from an outside source with whom he traveled to Europe.

McGonigal was required to report to the FBI contacts with foreign officials, but prosecutors allege that he hid that from his employer as he pursued business & foreign travel that created a conflict of interest with his law enforcement duties.

In September, federal prosecutors in Manhattan charged Deripaska & 3 associates with conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions by plotting to ensure his child was born in the U.S.

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) — The hunt for a gunman who killed 10 people at a ballroom dance club during Lunar New Year celebrations ended Sunday when authorities found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the van he used to flee after people thwarted his attempt at a second shooting.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna identified the man as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran and said no other suspects were at large. Speaking at an evening news conference, he added that the motive remained unclear for the attack, which wounded 10 more.

Luna did not have the exact ages of the victims but said they all appeared to be over 50. Seven of the wounded people remained in the hospital, he said.

The sheriff added that the suspect was carrying what he described as a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine, and a second handgun was discovered in the van where Tran was found dead.

The shooting late Saturday in the predominantly Asian American community of Monterey Park cast a shadow over the New Years festivities and sent a wave of fear through Asian American communities in the Los Angeles area. Other cities sent extra officers to watch over the celebrations.

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance studio following a Lunar New Year celebration, killing 10 people & setting off a manhunt for the suspect in the nation’s fifth mass killing this month.

Another 10 people were wounded & were taken to hospitals, where their conditions ranged from stable to critical. Capt. Andrew Meyer of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said Sunday.

The shooting occurred at Star Ballroom Dance Studio late Saturday in Monterey Park. A city that is composed mostly of Asian immigrants from China or first-generation Asian Americans.

Meyer gave no description of the male suspect or the weapon he used.

He said it was too early in the investigation to know if the gunman knew anyone at the ballroom or if it was a hate crime.

“We will look at every angle,” Meyer said.

The celebration in Monterey Park is one of California’s largest & had attracted tens of thousands throughout the day.

Two days of festivities, which have been attended by as many as 100,000 people in past years, were planned. But officials canceled Sunday’s events following the shooting.

The tragedy marked not just the fifth mass killing in the U.S. since the start of the year but also the deadliest since May 24, when 21 people were killed in a school in Uvalde, Texas.

The latest violence comes 2 months after 5 people were killed at a Colorado Springs nightclub.

CNN — “Avengers” star Jeremy Renner says he broke more than 30 bones in the New Year’s Day snowplow accident that sent him to the hospital for more than 2 weeks.

Renner, who plays superhero archer Hawkeye in the Marvel movie & TV “Universe,” posted a photo on Instagram with a caption that read:

“Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years …. Spawned from tragedy for my entire family & quickly focused into uniting actionable love. I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens . Love and blessings to you all.”

Renner turned 52 in the hospital. He was injured by a 14,330 pound snowplow while clearing a driveway near his Nevada home, leaving him with “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.”

He underwent & surgeries & was treated in the intensive care unit.

Monday night, the “Mayor of Kingstown” star replied to a Twitter post from the show, writing, “Outside my brain fog in recovery, I was very excited to watch episode 201 with my family at home.”

A 911 call log obtained by CNN says Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowcat (vehicle)” and that he had “extreme (difficulty) breathing.” It goes on to read that, “the right side of his chest is collapsed – upper torso is crushed.”

Renner’s snowcat, an engine-powered machine used to clear snow, started to roll away while Renner was off the driver’s seat.

Lil Meech, the star of 50 Cent's "BMF" TV series, is off the hook in his Florida gun possession case & TMZ has learned it was all just a mix-up involving luggage.

Meech was arrested in December at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after TSA agents spotted a 9MM in a carry-on bag he put through the security scanner.

Turns out the bag & firearm belonged to Meech's bodyguard, who was with the actor & told cops the gun was his. But, police ignored the bodyguard & busted Meech, accusing him of illegally carrying.

Meech's attorney, Bradford Cohen, says he presented indisputable evidence to Broward County prosecutors that proved the bodyguard owned the pistol, including the purchase receipt, gun case & permit for the firearm.

Meech & the bodyguard share the same taste in luggage. As a result, Meech accidentally picked up the bodyguard's carry-on while they were rushing to catch a flight & Meech's actual bag was accidentally left behind.

The Broward County State Attorney's Office confirmed to TMZ ... prosecutors declined to file a misdemeanor charge against Meech "because of the facts & evidence available in the case & the statements made by [Lil Meech] & his employee."
