CNN — 3 San Antonio police officers were charged with murder on Friday less than 24 hours after they fatally shot a woman during a police call.
Officer Eleazar Alejandro, 28; Sgt. Alfred Flores, 45; & Officer Nathaniel Villalobos, 27, are suspended from the force without pay as the investigation continues.
Police were responding to a call that a woman later identified as Melissa Ann Perez, 46, was cutting wires to a fire alarm system at her apartment complex.
“It appeared that Ms. Perez was having a mental health crisis,” said the chief.
After initially speaking with officers outside, Perez went back inside her apartment & locked the door.
On the body camera video, she can be heard twice saying, “You ain’t got no warrant!” One officer attempted to open the window & McManus said Perez threw a glass candleholder at him. Police said she later swung a hammer at an officer but hit the window instead, breaking it.
1 officer opened fire, but Perez was not hit & can be heard still speaking on the body camera video.
Seconds Perez “advanced toward the window again while still holding the hammer & all 3 officers opened fire.”
More than a dozen shots are heard on the body camera video. Perez was struck at least twice.
Although she was allegedly approaching the officers with a hammer when the officers opened fire, the arrest warrant said Perez “did not pose an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death when she was shot because the defendants had a wall, a window blocked by a television & a locked door between them.”
Bexar County jail records show all 3 officers were released on $100,000 bond.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after being convicted of killing a mail carrier who instead of delivering a large package of marijuana to his home left a note in the mailbox requiring him to come to a South Carolina post office to pick it up.
Trevor Raekwon Seward, 25, was found guilty of murder of a federal employee in the course of her duties & other crimes in the September 2019 shooting of 64-year-old Irene Pressley as she delivered mail in rural Williamsburg County.
After finding the note in his mailbox instead of the 2-pound package of marijuana from California he was expecting, Seward confronted Pressley a few minutes later demanding his package. The U.S. Postal Service mail carrier refused.
Seward then got a semi-automatic rifle & waited for Pressley to come down a street in Andrews, firing about 20 times into the back of her mail truck.
Several bullets hit Pressley. Seward then drove the mail truck into a ditch on an access road at a hunting club, searched through it to try to find his marijuana & anything else valuable & then left the Pressley’s body in her truck.
The marijuana package was later found on the street where Pressley was killed.
The co-defendant who helped Seward look for the mail carrier was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Jerome Terrell Davis, 31, pleaded guilty to robbery & conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute & to distribute marijuana.
Even when marijuana was illegal nationwide, the value of the package would not have exceeded $2,600.

A French man accused of drugging his unsuspecting wife & then filming at least 51 men raping her over a decade-long stretch allegedly insisted to investigators that she is a “saint” and “the love of his life.”
The husband, identified only as Dominique P, allegedly mixed the anti-anxiety drug Lorazepam into his wife’s dinner dozens of times between 2011 & 2020, prosecutors alleged in a recent court filing.
Dominique, who was married to the victim for more than 50 years, would then invite his “guests” to the couple’s home in Provence so they could allegedly perform sexual acts on his wife while she was passed out.
The sick allegations first came to light in 2020. Dominique & the victim share 3 adult children.
A total of 51 men, between the ages of 26 and 73, have already been charged with rape over the attacks.
The case was recently presented to an investigating magistrate — otherwise known as a judge — pending a trial.
The heinous allegations only surfaced in late 2020 when Dominique was arrested for allegedly trying to film women in a changing room at a local store with a hidden camera.
Cops subsequently found the videos of his wife saved on a USB in a file named “ABUSES.”
The wife said he had tried to convince her to engage in partner-swapping but she’d refused because “she didn’t like to be touched without having feelings.”
She broke down when investigators informed her of the secret tapes.
The wife said she’d had flashbacks & that the drugging could explain the fatigue & absent-mindedness she had been experiencing.
Subsequent medical tests revealed the wife was suffering from 4 different sexually transmitted diseases.
Dominique’s wife filed for divorce after the allegations came to light.

A submersible carrying 5 people to the Titanic imploded near the site of the shipwreck & killed everyone on board, authorities said Thursday, bringing a tragic end to a saga that included an urgent around-the-clock search & a worldwide vigil for the missing vessel.
The sliver of hope that remained for finding the 5 men alive was wiped away early Thursday, when the submersible’s 96-hour supply of oxygen was expected to run out & the Coast Guard announced that debris had been found roughly 1,600 feet from the Titanic in North Atlantic waters.
OceanGate Expeditions, the company that owned & operated the submersible, said that all 5 people in the vessel, including CEO & pilot Stockton Rush, “have sadly been lost.”
The others on board were: 2 members of a prominent Pakistani family, Shahzada Dawood & his son Suleman Dawood; British adventurer Hamish Harding & Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
OceanGate has been chronicling the Titanic’s decay & the underwater ecosystem around it via yearly voyages since 2021.
The Titan launched at 6 a.m. Sunday & was reported overdue Sunday afternoon about 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, as it was on its way to where the Titanic sank more than a century ago. By Thursday, when the oxygen supply was expected to run out, there was little hope of finding the crew alive.

WASHINGTON, June 20 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to 2 charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes & to enter into an agreement that could enable him to avoid a conviction on a gun-related charge.
The federal charges against Hunter Biden resulted from an investigation by David Weiss, the U.S. attorney in the Democratic president's home state of Delaware, who was appointed by Republican then-President Donald Trump.
Hunter Biden, 53, for years has been the focus of unrelenting attacks by Trump & his Republican allies, who have accused him of wrongdoing relating to Ukraine & China, among other matters. The president's son has worked as a lobbyist, lawyer, investment banker, artist & has publicly detailed his struggles with substance abuse.
According to court filings, Hunter Biden received taxable income in excess of $1.5 million in 2017 & 2018, but he did not pay income tax those years despite owing in excess of $100,000. The 2 counts are misdemeanors.
His attorney, Christopher Clark, said the government would file a firearm charge against his client that would be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement, an alternative to prosecution that is sometimes used to allow defendants to avoid prison time or a criminal conviction.
He described in a 2021 memoir dealing with substance abuse issues in his life, including crack cocaine use & alcoholism. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2014 after testing positive for cocaine.
Donald Trump, who was recently indicted on federal criminal charges that he unlawfully kept national-security documents when he left office, criticized the deal.
"Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere 'traffic ticket.' Our system is BROKEN!" he said on his social media platform.

Zion Williamson just couldn't catch a break. After reports emerged that the New Orleans Pelicans have been “dismayed” over the recent off-court developments involving the big man, those same off-court issues continued to persist on Monday. That is after porn star Moriah Mills dropped some more nasty updates on her relationship with Williamson.
On Twitter, Mills threatened to release her alleged “sex tapes” with Williamson. She then encouraged the Pelicans to part ways with the superstar, especially amid the trade rumors linking him with a potential move to the Portland Trail Blazers or Charlotte Hornets.
“NBA I have sex tapes of me & Zion Williamson & he also has them on his trap phone. [NBA], [Pelicans] trade him now he doesn't deserve to be in New Orleans !!! Sex tapes dropping soon,” Mills wrote.
Moriah Mills has been lambasting Zion Williamson ever since the Pelicans forward announced the pregnancy of his partner named Ahkeema. Mills claimed that she & Williamson were also in a relationship, but she never knew that the NBA star was also dating somebody else & even got her pregnant.
The porn star has since made several ugly allegations against Williamson, at one point even calling him a “sex addict.” She also claimed that Williamson even promised to move her to New Orleans so they can be together.
Williamson himself has yet to address Mills' threats & claims, though it should be noted that his stepfather previously refuted the talks & said that people should “believe half of what you see & nothing you hear.”
LAKE BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man is facing firearm charges after he told officers he accidentally shot himself in the leg while dreaming that an intruder was breaking into his home.
The Lake Barrington man was charged about 2 months after Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were called to his home on April 10 on a report about a person with a gunshot wound.
Deputies who found the 62-year-old man with a gunshot wound to 1 of his legs applied a tourniquet to the limb because he “was losing a significant amount of blood” before being hospitalized.
The man told investigators he “had a dream that someone was breaking into his home” & during that dream, he “retrieved his .357 Magnum revolver & shot at who he believed was the intruder.”
“When he fired, he shot himself & apparently woke up from the dream,” police said Tuesday.
Investigators determined there was no burglary attempt at the man’s home. But they found that his state firearm owner’s identification card had been revoked & he was still in possession of a firearm.
A warrant was issued June 9 for the man on charges of possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card & reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies.
He was arrested Monday & released after posting bond & is scheduled for a June 29 court status hearing.
