Report via AP -- Bushwick Bill, the diminutive, one-eyed rapper who with the Geto Boys helped put the South’s stamp on rap with hits like “Mind Playing Tricks On Me” and “Six Feet Deep,” died on Sunday at the age of 52, according to his publicist.
Dawn P. told The Associated Press that the rapper died Sunday at 9:35 p.m., local time, at a Colorado hospital. The publicist says the rapper, whose legal name is Richard Shaw, was surrounded by family when he died.
His Dallas-based business manager, Pete Marrero, said the 52-year-old was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February. He had been planning to go on tour around the time he was hospitalized.
In an interview with TMZ, Bushwick Bill said he wasn’t afraid of dying, referencing one of his songs, “Ever So Clear,” from his 1992 solo album, where he talks about shooting himself in the head and losing an eye when he was high on drugs.
“I died and came back already on June 19, 1991 so I know what it’s like on the other side,” he said.
He said he was working on new music because, “I notice when most celebrities pass, they really don’t have nothing set up for their children and everything’s in disarray so I figure, old music will sell but if I have new music for them ... at least they will have residual income from those things.”
The Houston-based Geto Boys was a trio consisting of Bushwick Bill, Scarface and Willie D that launched in the late 1980s. Their gritty verses punctuated by tales of violence, misogyny and hustling made them platinum sensations and showed that rap had strength outside the strongholds of New York, where it got its start, and later Los Angeles.
Bushwick Bill was the group’s most explosive member, and played up his real-life chaos: The cover of the Geto Boys “We Can’t Be Stopped” features him in a gurney with a garish eye wound. Later, he would compare himself to the horror character Chucky, even writing a song about it.
The Jamaica-born rapper was widely reported to have died earlier Sunday after a bandmate wrote a post on Instagram suggesting so, but his publicist had said Sunday afternoon that those reports were premature.

CHICAGO (AP) — Tony Ferguson’s path to the lightweight title is becoming clear.
Ferguson won by technical knockout after a medical stoppage in a lightweight fight against Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 on Saturday night.
Ferguson (26-3) won his 12th straight fight, the longest active streak in the UFC, after a doctor stopped the fight after the second round after checking on the swelling of Cerrone’s right eye.

— theScore (@theScore) June 9, 2019
Cerrone was taken to a hospital with an orbital fracture.
With the win, Ferguson moved into a position to face the winner of the lightweight unification title fight between champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim champ Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in September.
“If me and Cowboy (Cerrone) don’t fight again, I want that title shot. I’ve had that title, I feel that’s why it’s such an emotional roller-coaster. I’ve increased my value after this fight tonight. If Poirier cannot do it, I’ll go to Abu Dhabi (UFC 242) and do it myself, and if (Conor) McGregor wants to dance, I have a tune for him too, so regardless I’ll be ready,” Ferguson said.
With the crowd and Cerrone wanting more, and Ferguson getting a late hit in, Ferguson wished the bout didn’t end the way it did.
“It’s not the way I wanted to win. It’s been a big journey, I don’t think anyone had to go through the kind of stuff I had to,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson was back in the cage after a layoff because of personal issues.
Ferguson beat Anthony Pettis in October.
Saturday’s main card also featured two title fights.
In the main event, flyweight champ Henry Cejudo (15-2) overcame a sprained ankle, which he injured during training at his hotel this week, and finished Marlon Moraes (22-6-1) in the third round for the vacated bantamweight championship.

— UFC (@ufc) June 9, 2019
Cejudo, an Olympic gold medal wrestler, showed off his striking game in the second round, delivering a series of uppercuts and knees to the face of Moraes.
Cejudo carried the momentum to the third round, taking Moraes to the ground and delivering a series of punches before the fight was stopped just before the third round ended.
Cejudo defended his flyweight belt against former bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw with a first-round knockout in January. Dillashaw went down to flyweight to chase his second belt, but he was stopped by Cejudo in just over 30 seconds and had his belt stripped after he failed pre- and post-fight drug tests.
Cejudo became the fourth fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold titles in two different weight divisions.
“I’m not a double champion, I’m a triple champion: Olympic champion, flyweight champion and now bantamweight champion of the UFC,” Cejudo said. “I’m the only person in the world who has all these titles, nobody else. Whether you hate me or you love me, I’m the pound-for-pound king.”
In a women’s flyweight title fight, Valentina Shevchenko (17-3) defended her belt by landing a vicious left kick to the head of Jessica Eye (14-7) early in the second round. Eye was knocked out cold, but she was able to recover and walk off on her own power.

The fight between Ferguson and Cerrone was the highlight of the card. They had the attention of the crowd, which was equally split between the fighters.
The two exchanged blows in the first round. Cerrone landed a jab that put a cut above Ferguson’s right eye, bloodying Ferguson’s face.
In the second round, Ferguson went to work on Cerrone’s face, landing a series jabs and kicks, continuing to bloody Cerrone’s face and pounding his right eye.
Cerrone (36-12) took down Ferguson with two minutes left in the round, but Ferguson recovered quickly and continued to pound Cerrone’s face.
Ferguson delivered a punch just after the bell. It wasn’t immediately clear if Ferguson was penalized.
“In the second round, I saw his hands started to drop, my left hand started to land a lot more, he didn’t have too many answers to the kicks, I saw his confidence starting to decrease. And in the end of that round, going through a lot of emotions, just trying to get into it, I let a punch go at the buzzer, I thought I hit him at the buzz, it was on the other side of his face, not the side that was swollen,” Ferguson said.
Cerrone, who was alert and ready to begin the third round, was checked by a doctor who immediately put a stop to fight after checking on the swelling of Cerrone’s right eye.
Ferguson’s road to the lightweight title might not be that simple. Potential scheduling conflicts could affect the coveted title shot for Ferguson. Nurmagomedov’s agent has plans for his client to face Georges St-Pierre at some point, and Conor McGregor, the No. 3 contender, is holding out for a rematch against Nurmagomedov after he lost to him at UFC 229.
Ferguson had the interim title stripped when he wasn’t able to face Nurmagomedov in April of 2018.
Saturday’s fight against Ferguson was finalized just one week after Cerrone beat Al Iaquinta on May 4, giving Cerrone less than a month to prepare for Ferguson.

Vashon Flowers, 46, is charged with shooting and killing his wife. (Muskegon County Sheriff's Office)

Report via Fox News -- A Michigan man accused of fatally shooting his wife was nearly attacked by her son during a Monday court appearance.
Vashon Flowers, 46, is charged with open murder – which means that prosecutors could charge him with either first-degree murder, second-degree murder or manslaughter – in the death of Jamie Thomas-Flowers at their Muskegon Heights home last month.
Prosecutors say Flowers kicked in the door to the home on the morning of May 19 and shot Thomas-Flowers four times at close range. Flowers, who turned himself in to police later that night, has previous felony convictions including one for assault with a dangerous weapon.
In a courtroom video obtained by the MLive.com, London Thomas, Thomas-Flowers’ son, appears to leap from his seat, run across the room and jump a barrier to attack Flowers, who was in the jury box speaking with his public defender.
Thomas was quickly subdued by court officers and arrested. He appeared in court the next day where he was held in contempt and barred from future proceedings in the case.
The hearing was adjourned following the attempted attack and has been rescheduled for June 17.

Report via TMZ -- The hours leading up to John Singleton's hospitalization, which preceded his stroke and eventual death, are unaccounted for ... according to members of his family circle who are digging for answers.
Sources close to the famed filmmaker tell TMZ ... some of the mothers of his children are very suspicious of the events leading up to John checking himself into the hospital in mid-April. As we reported, he had just returned from a trip to Costa Rica at the time.
We're told nobody seems to know how Singleton got to the hospital -- he didn't drive himself, no friends or family are saying they took him, and there are no Uber or Lyft receipts to confirm how he arrived.
Even stranger ... our sources say hospital staff told family members John just sort of appeared out of nowhere in a wheelchair ... and he seemed pretty out of it.
TMZ broke the story ... Singleton was experiencing leg pain when he checked himself in, and then he suffered a massive stroke while hospitalized on April 17. He remained in a coma until his death on April 29 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.
Our sources say the mothers of John's children believe there's more to the story, and that's why they've hired a private investigator. We're told they want to know what John was doing beforehand, who he was communicating with, and whether someone knew he was in bad shape and could have done something sooner to help him.
Meanwhile, John's family also seems to be on the brink of a nasty legal war. His mother, Shelia Ward, just filed docs this week to immediately take control of his estate, claiming someone close to him took stuff out of his locked office and his other valuable property is at risk.
