NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The bullet struck the 13-year-old as he stood on the balcony of his family’s home with his siblings. Below, police officers moved through the crowded neighborhood, enforcing Kenya’s new coronavirus curfew.

Go upstairs, the children’s mother had shouted minutes earlier, as gunfire echoed in the streets. “We thought it was safer,” the boy’s 19-year-old sister, Aisha Hussein, told The Associated Press.

But on the balcony the children noticed a targeting light, heard another gunshot and scattered. All but 13-year-old Yasin Hussein Moyo, who “just stood there, stunned,” his sister said.

As he bled from the abdomen and their mother rushed up, the boy said, “Look mum, it hit me.”

His family mourned him Tuesday on the outskirts of Nairobi, washing his small body according to Muslim rite, carrying him in a crowd through the street to the cemetery and burying him in the dirt with their bare hands.

The killing might be the latest example of police abuse of coronavirus restrictions seen in several African nations in the past week.

Kenya’s police inspector general has ordered an investigation into the boy’s death by “stray bullet,” including a forensic analysis of all firearms held by officers at the scene.

“Our sincere condolences to the family,” the police tweet said.

The family was stunned. Women wept in a courtyard at the cemetery, and leaned in for a final goodbye before the boy’s body was wrapped completely in white cloth.

The father, Hussein Moyo, was furious.

“They come in screaming and beating us like cows, and we are law-abiding citizens,” he said. His son died a few hours after midnight.

Police shot him, a neighbor in the adjacent apartment block said.

“I could see police aiming at the building,” Hadijah Mamo said. She heard gunfire and saw tear gas, and minutes later “I heard people screaming that the boy had been shot.”

Kenya on Friday began imposing a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, and violence quickly followed.

Police fired tear gas at a crowd of hundreds of commuters who tried to reach a ferry in the port city of Mombasa before the first night of curfew began. Elsewhere, officers were captured in mobile phone footage whacking people with batons.

Another death has been blamed on police enforcement of the curfew. A motorcycle taxi driver, Hamisi Juma Mbega, died from his injuries after being beaten. He had breached the curfew by taking a pregnant woman to a hospital in Mombasa, according to a post-mortem report obtained by the AP.

And the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, a civilian body established by parliament, said it is looking into another death blamed on police brutality, that of a bicycle taxi driver in Homa Bay county.

Human rights groups, the Catholic church and even Kenya’s health ministry have condemned the actions of a police force that has long been accused of abuses.

“People must be treated humanely,” the cabinet secretary for health, Mutahi Kagwe, said after Friday night’s events.

Kenya now has 59 coronavirus cases, including one death from the disease.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FOX13 uncovered new information about the arrest of a woman in Cordova Sunday.

The arrest had many people talking on social media.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said officers stopped Kesha Gray to talk her after witness described a woman being beaten up so badly they thought it was a kidnapping according to an incident report.

Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer believed the arrest was unnecessary and all charges against Gray should be dropped.

“It took me back to the first time I saw Sandra Bland,” said Sawyer.

She immediately called for an investigation.

Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner promised a probe will happen.

“I think the force and languages used and the lack of care was extreme,” said Sawyer.
The incident report from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office details a witness who spotted a man putting a woman in a headlock “dragging the woman towards the vehicle, punching her and choking her.” That woman was later identified as Kesha Gray.

“It took me back to the first time I saw Sandra Bland,” said Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer.

FOX13 dug into what happened before Gray’s arrest was captured on a cell phone video.
According to the affidavit, Gray’s fiance called deputies to report a case of domestic violence between the two of them. The affidavit never mentioned the violence a witness reported to deputies in the incident report.

A serious allegation retired county deputy and FOX13 law enforcement analyst Mike Collins insisted deputies had to investigate.

“This is one of the most serious calls a police officer can get in the line of duty,” said Collins.

Collins reviewed the video and believed deputies tried to question Gray but she refused.

“The officer did what was necessary to deescalate the situation,” Collins said.

(CNN) Federal agents in San Diego seized about 4,400 pounds of drugs from a sophisticated smuggling tunnel that stretched into Tijuana, Mexico, authorities in California announced Tuesday.

The three-foot-wide tunnel is more than 2,000 feet long and has reinforced walls, ventilation, lighting and a rail system, according to a statement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It had an average depth of 31 feet.

The tunnel linked a warehouse in the Otay Mesa section of San Diego to another in Tijuana.

Authorities found 1,300 pounds of cocaine, 86 pounds of methamphetamine, 17 pounds of heroin, 3,000 pounds of marijuana and more than two pounds of fentanyl in the tunnel, according to the statement. The drugs have a street value of $29.6 million.

"These tunnels show the determination of drug trafficking organizations to subvert our border controls and smuggle deadly drugs into our community. But these recent tunnel seizures also show the dedication of our amazing partners on the San Diego Tunnel Task Force to locate and shut down these tunnels to keep our communities safe," Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge John W. Callery said in a statement.

"Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, DEA employees continue to work tirelessly to serve and protect the community."

Agents estimated that the tunnel had been in use for several months, the statement said.

It was discovered March 19 after an investigation by the San Diego Tunnel Task Force, which includes the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, US Border Patrol, the DEA and the United States Attorney's Office.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Across New York City, health care workers face tremendous challenges to treat patients, and at Brooklyn’s Brookdale Hospital Medical Center they are at their maximum capacity.

Patient beds line the hallways as every inch of this building is now being used because of the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, reports CBS2’s Kevin Rincon.

“Well, this is a warzone, a medical warzone,” said Dr. Arabia Mollette. “Every day I come, what I see on a daily basis is pain, despair, suffering and healthcare disparities.”

Mollette works in the emergency room where more than 100 coronavirus patients have walked through with another 70 people under investigation.

“This virus sees no it is no difference,” she said. “It has nothing to do with age, has nothing to do with access to healthcare, has nothing to do with socio-economics, race or ethnicity. This virus is killing a lot of people.”

Like everywhere else, Mollette says they’re in need of a lot of things including supplies.

“We need prayer, we need support, we need gowns, we need gloves, we need masks, we need more vents, we need more medical space, we need psychosocial support as well,” she said. “It’s not easy coming in here when you know that what you’re getting ready to face.”

This hospital has 370 beds, but that’s not enough.

Not only are they running out of room for the sick, they’re running out of room for those who’ve died. The morgue is filled and a refrigerated trailer is now parked outside for overflow.

One thing they have been able to do is develop rapid testing in-house with the ability to conduct 300 tests per day.

In order for things to improve here, they need to see fewer patients, so the message continues to be: Stay home, so they can do their jobs.

Jay-Z and Rihanna are joining forces for a special cause. The Shawn Carter Foundation, along with Rihanna's Clara Lionel Foundation, will be each donating $1 million for COVID-19 response efforts.

According to a press release, the combined $2 million funded by both foundations will "support undocumented workers, the children of frontline health workers and first responders, and incarcerated, elderly and homeless populations in New York City and Los Angeles."

The funds are also "offering daycare, learning materials, food and supplies for the children of frontline healthcare workers and first responders, providing learning materials for the over 20,000 children and youth learning in shelters and virtual mental health support for parents, and ensuring child-care centers are clean, have smaller clusters of children and that all personnel are protected."

"There are a number of populations who are especially vulnerable during this pandemic — those who are undocumented, incarcerated, elderly and homeless, as well as children of frontline health workers and first responders," says Justine Lucas, executive director of the Clara Lionel Foundation. "Now more than ever, we need to support organizations prioritizing the health and rights of these individuals."

Adds Gloria Carter, CEO, and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation: "In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition, and education. The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action."

Video After The Jump

George Foreman counseled Deontay Wilder after his crushing loss to Tyson Fury ... telling TMZ Sports he's the only man who understands what the Bronze Bomber's feeling -- 'cause Muhammad Ali humbled him the same way during "The Rumble in the Jungle."

We were talking to the 71-year-old boxing legend when he revealed he recently talked to Wilder following his devastating February 22 TKO loss at the hands of the Gypsy King.

"I had a nice conversation with Wilder, nice conversation with him."

Why, you ask?

Well, Foreman says he knows EXACTLY how Deontay feels ... 'cause like with Fury, Ali handed George his 1st L and took his belt in Zaire in 1974 -- the "Rumble in the Jungle" -- one of the most famous sporting events in the history of the world.

"We talked because I was in a position where I lost unexpectedly with the title in Africa. Only I know what he's going through," Foreman tells us.

The Hall of Famer continued, saying ... "He's gonna have to live with [the Fury loss] but I can show him how to live with that and come back better. We talked a lot on those lines."

FYI -- Foreman was 40-0 when he lost to Ali. DW was 42-0-1 when he lost to Fury. Both boxers were champs.

Shortly after the loss, Wilder exercised a rematch clause in his contract ... setting the fighters up for a trilogy fight later this year.

Despite clearly wanting revenge, many experts say taking the fight is a terrible career move for Deontay -- as they don't think he can beat the slick-moving 6'9", 273-lb. heavyweight.

Straight nonsense in Foreman's mind, 'cause he says Wilder can 100% beat Fury ... and it'll actually be pretty simple.

"Not only beat him, [Wilder] can do it easily," George says, adding ... "Give him another chance. He'll show you."

Foreman's living proof a comeback's possible (although he never got a shot at running it back with Ali) ... he became heavyweight champ again 20 years later.

With Big George's help, Deontay will attempt to do the same ... but he ain't trying to wait 2 decades.

A high-speed chase up Interstate 5 on Sunday ended with state troopers arresting only the passenger of the suspect vehicle.

That’s because the driver’s seat was occupied by a pit bull.

The dog’s owner, a 51-year-old Lakewood man, reportedly told troopers he was teaching his pet to drive. The man was arrested on investigation of DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and felony eluding, the Washington State Patrol told KOMO News.

The pursuit started after a driver allegedly hit two vehicles at the Boeing Access Road exit in South Seattle shortly before 1 p.m. and then sped away, according to KOMO. The vehicle, a 1996 Buick, was spotted near the Snohomish River Bridge near mile marker 195, KOMO reports.

Washington State Patrol troopers told the news station the Buick was traveling faster than 100 mph before the driver left the freeway and drove onto Centennial Trail.

When the pursuit ended at Kackman Road and Grandview Trail, troopers told KOMO, the dog was sitting behind the wheel and the man appeared to have been steering from the passenger seat.

"I wish I could make this up," trooper Heather Axtman said. "I've been a trooper for almost 12 years and wow, I've never heard this excuse. I've been in a lot of high speed chases, I've stopped a lot of cars, and never have I gotten an excuse that they were teaching their dog how to drive."

Nipsey Hussle's dreams were coming to fruition. He had released his critically acclaimed debut album titled "Victory Lap," which got nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards, had opened the Marathon Clothing store in the South Los Angeles neighborhood where he grew up, had his own record label and was giving back to his community.

Tragically, on March 31, 2019, Nipsey's life was cut short when he was shot and killed outside of his clothing store. He was just 33-years old.

We'll never know all of the things Nipsey would have gone on to accomplish, but he's an inspiration to many youths coming up in the inner city.

He's a shining example of what you can achieve if you believe in yourself and work hard.

Rest in peace Nipsey Hussle "Tha Great." You will always be remembered.
