WILMINGTON, Del. (Fox29) - A Philadelphia woman has been identified as the victim in a cold case murder investigation that dates back to 1977, authorities in Delaware announced on Tuesday.
New Castle County Police say back in 1977, the body of a female was located in a wooded area off Old Union Church Road in Townsend by a teenager who was riding home on his bike.
Authorities responded to the scene & later determined the woman's manner of death to be homicide. An extensive investigation into the woman's murder followed, but detectives were not able to identify the victim or obtain any leads & the case grew cold.
On Tuesday, after years of working with forensic & DNA experts, New Castle County Police identified the victim as Marie Petry Heiser, a Philadelphia resident. Heiser, who was 50-years-old at the time of her death, had not been reported missing to any police agency.
Heiser's husband, William Heiser Sr., was a member of the Philadelphia Police Department's Highway Patrol from the 1950’s until the early 1960’s when he was injured while rehearsing for a thrill show. After leaving the force due to his injuries, he worked as a truck driver for an area transportation company and moved to South Daytona Beach Florida in the late 1970s before his death in 2006.
New Castle County Police say Heiser's children were told by their father that their mother had packed her bags & left their Philadelphia home without leaving any information on where she had gone.

MIAMI (WPVI) -- A 24-year-old Pennsylvania woman was found dead inside a South Beach Miami hotel room after two men drugged & raped her, police said.
According to authorities, the body of Christine Englehardt, of Richboro, Bucks County, was found on March 18. Surveillance cameras from the Albion Hotel on James Avenue show her with the two men around 1 a.m. that morning.
Evoire Collier, 21, & Dorian Taylor, 24, both of North Carolina, were arrested over the weekend & charged with sexual battery & burglary. They are currently being held without bond.
The men are also accused of stealing her cell phone, cash & credit cards once Englehardt was unconscious.
Samantha DiFrancesco, a close friend of Englehardt's, said she was a "genuinely good person."
"She was the person you brought in that lit up the whole room. Her laugh was the most contagious laugh," said DiFrancesco.
Investigators believe Englehardt made contact with the suspects in a restaurant. One investigator said that a court surveillance video shows the suspects holding the victim up & that the video made it clear she was unable to consent.
"This is the last person I would ever think this would happen to. It just breaks your heart when you know she was a genuinely good person who would do anything for anybody. To think she went through what she went through, it's sickening; it's sick," DiFrancesco said.
Investigators believe the suspects gave the victim a green pill to drug her. The Medical Examiner has not made a ruling on the cause of death as they are still awaiting toxicology results, officials said. If investigators find the pill that led to her death, the suspects could face manslaughter or murder charges.

A man died and two girls, ages 13 & 15, face felony murder charges after police say the girls carjacked the man near Nationals Park on Tuesday, used a stun gun against him & caused the car to flip.
Mohammad Anwar, of Springfield, Virginia, was identified as the victim, police and his family said Wednesday. He was 66.
The suspects are a 13-year-old from Southeast D.C. & a 15-year-old from Fort Washington, Maryland, police said. The juveniles' names were not released.
Documents released Wednesday say the girls were arrested on felony murder & carjacking charges & taken to the Metropolitan Police Department's homicide branch for processing.
Anwar was a father & grandfather with many loved ones in the U.S. and Pakistan, his family said. He was working as an Uber Eats driver at the time of the crime.
“He was a hardworking immigrant who came to the U.S. in 2014 to build a better life for himself and his family. The loss for his family is immeasurable,” they said in a statement that called the crime "senseless."
Anwar is survived by a wife & two adult children in the U.S., & an adult son & four grandchildren in Pakistan, his family said.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The suspected gunman in the Boulder supermarket shooting that killed 10 people appeared in court Thursday for the first time, & a defense attorney immediately asked for an assessment of his mental health.
Kathryn Herold, the lawyer for suspect Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, provided no details about what condition he might suffer from.
During the brief hearing, Alissa did not speak other than to say “yes” to a question from the judge, who advised him of the 10 charges of first-degree murder he faces. He did not enter a plea, which will come later in the judicial process.
Alissa entered court in a wheelchair, presumably because of the gunshot wound to the leg that he suffered in the shooting. One of his attorneys leaned down to talk to him before the hearing began, & Alissa nodded his head as the attorney spoke to him. Four deputies with black bands of mourning across their badges stood close by.
Alissa appeared alert & attentive. He wore a mask & purple, short-sleeved coveralls.
The 21-year-old suspect remains held without bail. Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said authorities planned to file more charges, but he did not elaborate.
At Herold’s request, Alissa’s next hearing will not be scheduled for two to three months to allow the defense team to evaluate his mental health and evidence collected by investigators.
