The National Archives and Records Administration confirmed on Friday that it found classified material among the boxes of White House documents that former President Donald Trump improperly took to Mar-a-Lago.

"NARA has identified items marked as classified national security information within the boxes" that have been returned to the agency from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, Archivist David S. Ferriero acknowledged in a letter to the House Oversight Committee.

The agency has said that Trump returned 15 boxes of documents that were improperly taken from the White House. The Oversight committee earlier this month opened an investigation into records.

ATLANTA (AP) — A state official is accused of faking multiple pregnancies & using at least one of those ruses to get out of work & be paid for the time off.

A Fulton County grand jury indicted Robin Folsom, former director of external affairs for the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, on 3 felony counts of making false statements. She’s also charged with one count of identity fraud, also a felony.

Folsom, 43, had supervised the agency’s marketing & media communications.

In October 2020, Folsom told human resources officials that she was pregnant & then announced that she had given birth in May 2021, according to the state Office of the Inspector General. A man claiming to be the child’s father later emailed the agency, claiming that Folsom needed several weeks of rest after the birth. The agency approved about & weeks of paid leave.

But the scheme soon began to unravel, the inspector general’s office said.

A co-worker reported seeing the lower portion of Folsom’s stomach “come away” from her body & shared with investigators a belief that Folsom wore a fake pregnancy stomach. She also sent pictures of her new baby to agency employees & the pictures seemed to depict children “with varying skin tones.”

Ultimately, a review of medical & insurance records found no sign that Folsom delivered a real child.

She had earlier reported the birth of a child in July 2020, and claimed she was again pregnant in August 2021.

Folsom resigned in October 2021, shortly after being interviewed by state investigators.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison for identity fraud and up to five years in prison for each charge of making false statements.

Nearly a dozen men associated with the Brooklyn-based Woo gang were charged Thursday with allegedly stealing more than $4 million in COVID-19 relief cash & boasting about the scam in a music video, the feds said.

The 11 suspects – 9 of whom live in Brooklyn – used personal information, including driver’s license numbers, from 800 people to submit unemployment claims worth about $20 million.

The gang members were able to fleece some $4.3 million from the unemployment program between March 2020 and October 2021 as part of the scam.

A number of the suspects allegedly flashed stacks of the cash on social media & made reference to the scam in a rap video for the song “Trappin.”

The song includes the lyrics: “Unemployment got us working a lot,” a reference to the scheme.

One of the suspects, Christopher Jean Pierre, bought identifying information of his victims, including driver’s license numbers, for $150 apiece.

The feds recovered messages sent by Jean Pierre on an encrypted messaging app to a person identified as “Skyscraper,” who sold him the information.

“Yoo bro I need NY pros with the DL ASAP,” Jean Pierre wrote, referring to “driver’s licenses.”

“Is 150,” Skyscraper wrote back.

In a statement announcing the charges, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Breon Peace said he would continue to go after gang members who attempt to rip off the US government.

Eight of the suspects were arrested Thursday in New York and are scheduled to be presented in Brooklyn federal court.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The former suburban Minneapolis police officer who said she confused her handgun for her Taser when she fatally shot Daunte Wright was sentenced Friday to 2 years in prison, a penalty below state guidelines after the judge found mitigating factors warranted a lesser sentence.

Kim Potter was convicted in December of first- and second-degree manslaughter in the April 11 killing of Wright, a 20-year-old Black motorist. She was sentenced only on the more serious charge in accordance with state law.

For someone with no criminal history, such as Potter, the state guidelines on that charge range from slightly more than six years to about 8 1/2 years in prison, with the presumptive sentence being just over seven years.

Prosecutors said the presumptive sentence was proper, but defense attorneys asked for a sentence below the guidelines, including a sentence of probation only.

Judge Regina Chu imposed the sentence after hearing from Wright’s family & Potter.

Wright’s mother said she will never be able to forgive Potter & would only refer to her as “the defendant” because Potter only referred to her 20-year-old son as “the driver” at trial.

“She never once said his name. And for that I’ll never be able to forgive you. And I’ll never be able to forgive you for what you’ve stolen from us,” a tearful Wright said.

Wright was killed after Brooklyn Center officers pulled him over for having expired license tags and an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror. The shooting, which came in the midst of Derek Chauvin’s trial on murder charges in George Floyd’s killing, sparked several days of demonstrations outside the Brooklyn Center police station marked by tear gas & clashes between protesters & police.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump must answer questions under oath in New York state’s civil investigation into his business practices, a judge ruled Thursday.

Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump & his 2 eldest children, Ivanka & Donald Trump Jr., to comply with subpoenas issued in December by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump & his 2 children must sit for a deposition within 21 days, Engoron said.

Engoron issued the ruling after a 2-hour hearing with lawyers for the Trumps & James’ office.

“In the final analysis, a State Attorney General commences investigating a business entity, uncovers copious evidence of possible financial fraud, & wants to question, under oath, several of the entities’ principals, including its namesake. She has the clear right to do so.” Engoron wrote in his decision.

The ruling is almost certain to be appealed, but if upheld it could force the former president into a tough decision about whether to answer questions, or stay silent, citing his Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination.

James said her investigation has uncovered evidence Trump’s company used “fraudulent or misleading” valuations of assets like golf courses & skyscrapers to get loans & tax benefits.

Trump’s lawyers told Engoron during the hearing that having him sit for a civil deposition now, while his company is also the subject of a parallel criminal investigation, is an improper attempt to get around a state law barring prosecutors from calling someone to testify before a criminal grand jury without giving them immunity.

“If she wants sworn testimony from my client, he’s entitled to immunity. He gets immunity for what he says, or he says nothing,” Trump’s criminal defense lawyer, Ronald Fischetti, said in the hearing.

If Trump were to testify in the civil probe, anything he says could be used against him in the criminal investigation being overseen by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Trump could invoke his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent in a deposition — something he’s criticized others for doing in the past. But Fischetti said if Trump did so, it could still hurt a potential criminal defense.

Video After The Jump

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) — Police in New Jersey are investigating an incident in which a Black teen was held down on the ground & handcuffed after a mall fight with a white youth, who was directed to sit down on a couch.

A video posted online shows the 2 teens arguing inside the Bridgewater Commons Mall, then pushing each other & throwing punches, before both fall onto the floor. Several kids who were watching the fight scatter, some pull out their cellphones.

When 2 cops from Bridgewater Township arrive about 12 seconds later to separate the 2, one can be seen in the video pinning the Black teen to the ground & handcuffing him. Meanwhile, the other officer is seen pushing the white teen onto a couch before going to help the second officer.

The Black youth said, “They basically tackled me to the ground & the male officer put his knee in my back & he started putting me in cuffs. Then the female officer put her knee on my upper back & started helping put cuffs on me. And he (the white youth) was sitting down on the couch watching the whole thing.”

In a statement, Bridgewater police said, “We recognize that this video has made members of our community upset & are calling for an internal affairs investigation. The officers were able to respond quickly to this incident & stop it from escalating because of a tip we received from the community. We have requested that the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office assist us in this matter.”

Video After The Jump

A Florida woman is accused of using some of her Covid-19 relief loan to hire a hit man to kill another woman.

The suspect, Jasmine Martinez, is in jail along with 2 other people, identified by police as Javon Carter & Romiel Robinson. They are all being held on charges related to the May 3 murder of Le’Shonte Jones & the attempted murder of Jones' 3-year-old daughter, who was injured.

Martinez is alleged to have concocted a plot to kill Jones, & Robinson is accused of enlisting Carter to carry out the slaying. In the days before the shooting, Martinez is alleged to have withdrawn about $10,000 from a federal Paycheck Protection Program loan she received. The warrant alleges that she used the money to pay Carter for the crime.

Martinez received the $15,000 loan — given to business owners struggling during the pandemic — for a single-employment beauty salon. It's not clear whether she actually owned the salon.

Investigators said Martinez knew the victim & had been arrested & charged in 2018 with getting into a physical altercation with Jones. Jones testified against Martinez in 2020.

After that court hearing, Jones reported that she was harassed, held at gunpoint & robbed by two men. One of the men was later identified as Martinez's ex-boyfriend, Kelly Nelson.

Nelson is in jail on charges related to the alleged robbery.

The warrant alleges that police investigating Jones' murder uncovered jail records of phone calls between Nelson & Martinez. Martinez is alleged to have told Nelson in a call on Feb. 11, 2021, that she was “ready to go kill” Jones & that Jones has to “die.”

The next day, Robinson, who was Martinez's new boyfriend, contacted Carter.

Jones reported in March that she was being harassed, was offered money not to testify against Nelson & was told that Martinez wanted Nelson home to help take care of their children. Jones testified against Nelson in April & also against Martinez for witness tampering.

Investigators alleged that shortly after her testimony, Robinson contacted Carter to get a price on the killing.
