CNN Reports Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- At least 132 people were killed and 520 wounded in twin suicide car bombings in central Baghdad Sunday, officials said -- the deadliest attack on civilians in Iraq this year. Two car bombs detonated in quick succession near Iraqi government buildings about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, as the Iraqi work week began, an Interior Ministry official said. Among the wounded were three American security contractors, the U.S. Embassy told CNN. The embassy would not give any more details. One of the bombs exploded outside Baghdad's governorate building. The second was outside the Justice Ministry, about 500 meters (1,600 feet) away. The Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works, which is about 50 meters from the Justice Ministry, also sustained severe damage. Plumes of smoke billowed from the sites of the attacks as victims fled, some with blood streaming down their faces. The streets were strewn with debris, including charred cars and chunks of concrete from damaged buildings. Some government buildings and others in the area were heavily damaged. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki surveyed the carnage shortly after the explosions. "The cowardly attack that took place today should not affect the determination of the Iraqi people from continuing their battle against the deposed regime and the gangs of criminal Baath party and the terrorist al Qaeda organization, who have committed the most heinous crimes against the civilians,'" al-Maliki said in a statement.

President Obama condemned the bombings as "outrageous attacks against the Iraqi people." In a White House statement, Obama called the bombings an attempt to "derail Iraq's progress" and pledged that the United States would be a "close friend and partner" as Iraq prepares for elections in early 2010. According to the statement, Obama spoke Sunday with al-Maliki and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to express his condolences and reiterate U.S. support. The bombings came a day after the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, visited the country for the first time, and on the same day Iraqi officials were due to try to break a logjam holding up a new election law. Iraqis are supposed to go to the polls January 16, but parliament still has not passed the legislation, putting the balloting in limbo. The original deadline for parliament to pass the law was October 15, because Iraq's electoral commission says it needs 90 days to organize the process. Iraq's parliament failed Wednesday to reach agreement on a new electoral law, so the issue was supposed go to the Political Council for National Security on Sunday. It is not clear if the bombings will derail the political council's discussions.

Al-Maliki vowed to punish "the enemies of the Iraqi people who want to spread chaos in the country and derail the political process and prevent the parliamentary elections from taking place as planned" in January. He said holding the elections as scheduled would send the strongest response and message to the "enemies of the political process who are supported from the outside." Susan Rice, the ambassador, completed a two-day visit to Iraq on Saturday that included a condolence stop at the Foreign Ministry, where a huge bombing killed more than 100 in August. Security was tightened around Baghdad in the wake of the August 19 attack, which Iraqis dubbed "Bloody Wednesday." Blast walls were erected around the city and more checkpoints were set up. Iraqi journalists grilled officials on TV on Sunday, demanding to know how the new attacks could have taken place given the new security measures. An Iraqi official said the government was working to bolster security, but regional cooperation was needed to help fight suicide bombers. "We are calling on international and U.N. envoys to come and find out why Iraq is being targeted this way," said Ali al-Dabbagh, the Iraqi government spokesman. The spokesman said Iraq's setbacks are mainly caused by a fledgling intelligence that has "not been completed." The European Union condemned "this terrorist attack" and sent its condolences to the families of the victims, the Swedish presidency said in a statement. The Foreign Ministry, near the site of Sunday's blasts, was one of six places attacked on August 19. That day's attacks killed at least 100 people and wounded hundreds more. The area is close to the heavily guarded Green Zone that also houses the U.S. Embassy. The August attacks shook confidence in the abilities of Iraqi security forces who took over securing urban areas from U.S. troops over the summer. The Iraqi government has blamed Syria for harboring former Baath party members, who it said planned the August attacks, and asked for their handover. Relations between the two neighbors were strained after the bombings. Each withdrew its ambassador from the other's country. Security in the capital was tightened after the August bombings, and a decision to normalize the situation in Baghdad by taking down blast walls was reversed and checkpoints increased. Iraqi and U.S. officials have warned of a possible increase in violence ahead of the country's national elections.

LA Times Reports Could Lil Wayne's decision to plead guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in New York bring a halt to the New Orleans rapper's recent professional momentum? Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., is expected to receive one year in prison, according to a spokeswoman for the New York district attorney's office. His plea was related to a 2007 weapons possession arrest in New York City; police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in July 2007. Lil Wayne was forced to surrender his passport Thursday; he will next appear in court on Dec. 15 and he'll be sentenced in February, the New York district attorney spokeswoman said. Wayne's plea could have larger implications for the release of his next album and his ability to tour to promote that collection. The artist has been working on a long-awaited rock 'n' roll effort, "Rebirth," an album scheduled to be released Dec. 15. His label publicist at Universal Motown did not respond to requests for comment, and it was unclear whether the legal situation would affect the release of the album. "Rebirth," originally pegged for a spring release and pushed back several times, is tipped to remake the rap star into a rock 'n' roller. A lead single, "Prom Queen," was released in January, but it failed to generate the radio airplay and digital sales of his rap efforts. Lil Wayne has also said he's in the midst of recording "Tha Carter IV." But it's difficult to say how Lil Wayne's legal troubles will affect his career. Rapper T.I. is serving out a one-year sentence on federal weapons charges, but his 2008 album "Paper Trail" has sold more than 2 million copies. T.I. also brokered a deal for an MTV reality show, "T.I.'s Road to Redemption," which documented his efforts working with at-risk youth.

Last week SCP Worldwide chairman Dave Checketts dropped Limbaugh from the group's attempt to bid for the Rams, labeling his involvement "a complication and a distraction." www.rapbasement.com50 Cent recently talked about Jay-Z's lack of competition when he's been confronted in the past by rap rivals like Jadakiss and Cam'ron. The G-Unit general pointed out how the rap-mogul used his Roc-A-Fella artists to handle his disputes, avoiding beefs himself. 50 Cent actually paid Jigga credit for his tatical moves, using rappers Beanie Sigel and Tru Life as examples of how Jay-Z not wanting to get involved in battles."Jay is a really smart guy," 50 explained in an interview with reporter Gina Torres. "He'll analyze other people and other things that they're doing and not actually look at what's happening to him and his transitions. Right now, he's in this really safe space. He created this safe aura -- it wouldn't be like that if he handled his issues himself. He's a piece of work, he always puts somebody in front of him. When Jada came for him, he put Beanie in front of him and Beanie went back and forth with Jadakiss. When Cam came for him, he put Tru Life in front of him and they went back and forth and he just didn't compete." AllHipHop Reports Public Enemy, the iconic Hip-Hop group, has raised $50,000 towards their latest venture - a fan-funded album. In early October, the group joined forces with SellaBand, an online service that allows fans to personally fund projects from their favorite artists. Since then, the group has raised over $50,000 for their forthcoming album, with their final goal being $250,000. The quarter-million dollars will be used to not only fund the entire recording process, but to fund a marketing plan for the new album’s worldwide release. The new CD will be Public Enemy’s 13th studio recording, and their first release since 2007’s How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul? Fans who contribute can receive multiple incentives, such as t-shirts, backstage passes, a studio visit during a recording session, executive producer credit and even profits generated from sales. Fans can donate at www.sellaband.com/publicenemy. Public Enemy front man Chuck D shared his thoughts about the new deal. “SellaBand's financial engine model goes about restructuring the music business in reverse, It starts with fans first, then the artists create from there,” he said. “The music business is built on searching for fans and this is a brand new way for acts to create a new album with fans first, already on board.” Chuck D also told AllHipHop.com that he was interested in speaking directly to Gucci Mane to make sure the popular rapper did not think there was any friction between them. “What I said could be misread as mean,” Chuck D said. “The old gotta help these young cats know they ain’t alone.” Chuck had previously chastised Gucci Mane for dissing Jay-Z as the “hottest” artist in Hip-Hop. AllHipHop.com Reports Cash Money CEO’s Bryan “Slim” and Ronald “Baby” Williams have released their first public statement on the recent gun conviction of their star artist Lil Wayne. Wayne plead guilty yesterday (October 22) to attempted weapons possession charges, and is expected to be sentenced to a year in prison. “The Cash Money family will continue to support our artist and friend Lil Wayne in his current court case. We have worked with Wayne since he was a teenager, and have seen him grow into one of the world’s most successful hip-hop artists, with a work ethic that is second to none,” the Cash Money CEO’s explained to AllHipHop.com. In the hours that followed, peers such as Slim Thug vehemently defended Wayne as being an unjust target due to his status as a black celebrity. Others, such as ex-wife Toya Carter, opted to press that fans and media alike continue to support the rapper, and chastised those who have abandoned him. With two freestyles (“Swag Surfin’,” “Wasted”) recently leaking from Wayne’s anticipated mixtape No Ceilings, the Williams brothers confirmed that Wayne will continue to receive the label’s full backing during this dark period. “Wayne has our love and commitment during this difficult time. We always have and always will stand behind him,” the Williams brothers said. As reported earlier, Lil Wayne is expected to serve at least 8 months of the 1 year prison sentence. Lil Wayne and DJ Drama’s No Ceilings mixtape will be released on October 31.

BallerStatus Reports TLC is the top-selling girl group of all time, earning the bulk of their sales during their heyday in the 90s. We all knew late member Left Eye had a wild streak, but did you know the other two girls did too? If you're a fan of the trio, you might remember their financial struggles during their peak, despite selling tens of millions of albums. In a recent interview on comedian Monique's late night show, T-Boz, detailed an incident where they strong-armed label executive Clive Davis to get their cash.

Clive Davis "TLC had generated, on Crazy Sexy Cool, $75 million and they gave us $50,000 a piece," she explained during the TV appearance. "I was like, 'What the hell?!' So, of course, Lisa ['Left Eye' Lopes] was the ringleader, like, 'We need to go get our money, I need to know where my money is at!' So she was locked up in the diversion center for burning down the house [of ex-boyfriend Andre Rison]. "We had the limo driver, he was the getaway car," T-Boz continued. "So we went up there, and Puffy was the one that snitched us out because we kicked him out of the meeting. It was rude, we interrupted Puffy's meeting. We were getting sick and sweating and we were really working hard for [the] money and we wanted to know who the hell had our check. [LaFace Records head] L.A. [Reid] said [then-Arista chief] Clive had it, [so] that's where we went." When it was all said and done, the girls got some of them money, and luckily weren't arrested. "They did give us some money, but they still took it back and recouped it, but its all good," T-Boz explained. "You live and learn in the [music] business." According to Wikipedia, TLC has gone on to sell over 40 million records in the U.S. alone. They've released four studio albums and two greatest hits project. Their biggest selling album to date is CrazySexyCool. T-Boz and Chilli are currently prepping an upcoming tour.
