An Omaha teenager who threw her newborn daughter from a second-floor apartment window will face probation and time in a group home.
Antonia Lopez, 16, was initially charged as an adult but the case was moved to juvenile court.
The incident came to light when emergency crews were called to Kellom-Knolls Apartments near 25th and Cuming on October 1. They arrived to find a woman holding and administering CPR to an infant in the parking lot of the complex.
In the investigation that followed authorities determined that Lopez had just given birth to a premature baby and had thrown the child out the window. She told her mother what had happened and the teen's grandmother went outside and found the child in the grass.
Paramedics took over life-saving efforts and transported the child to the hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.
Lopez was initially charged as an adult, booked for felony child abuse resulting in death.
Prosecutors said they did not believe that the teen's actions were planned and the case was moved to juvenile court. In February, Lopez entered a plea of admission in the case.
In addition to probation and time in the group home, Lopez will also participate in community service.

Tekashi69's quick ascension in the rap game may have hit a major bump in the road.
According to DJ Akademiks, the 21-year old Brooklyn, New York native, born Daniel Hernandez, skipped his court date on Tuesday, April 10. He was scheduled to appear in front of a judge with proof he passed his GED, which was one of the stipulations of his plea deal after pleading guilty to one felony count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance.
6ix9ine could now be facing a three-year prison sentence.
His Instagram account has been wiped clean except for one post with a caption from his management team.
"TEKASHI WONT BE BACK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE," it reads. "HE’S DECIDED TO RELEASE THE OFFICIAL AUDIO TO GOTTI TODAY FOR YOU GUYS, LINK IS IN HIS BIO. WE’LL UPDATE YOU GUYS ON HIS BEHALF FOR THE TIME BEING."
There are reportedly plans in place for a Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather rematch.
According to Omar Al Raisi, editor in chief of The Sports Journal, Dubai's largest sporting news outlet, who referenced sources, the fight will take place in the Octagon with modified rules.
"Floyd Mayweather will fight Conor McGregor in the octagon. With 4 ounce gloves, no shoes, 5-five minute rounds in 155 division," Al Raisi tweeted Sunday, April 8. "No kicks, no take downs, no elbows, no knees. Certain things will be allowed like the clinch. With 4 ounce gloves, no shoes, 5-five minute rounds in 155 division. Co-promoted by Mayweather Promotions, UFC and McGregor Entertainment."
Forbes reports that it's possible the UFC was going to announce the bout last week, but McGregor throwing a dolly through a bus window at the UFC 223 media day on Thursday spoiled those plans.
Would you watch this rematch? What do you think about the modified rules?
In her new book titled “Rise: Surviving the Fight of My Life,” UFC fighter Paige VanZant details a horrific event from high school.
The 24-year old flyweight contender opens up about being gang raped and the subsequent bullying that took place.
VanZant says that a group of boys got her drunk, then sexually assaulted her once she could not defend herself.
“They move me around,” VanZant wrote. "They change my position. I fail each time I try to resist, my limbs like wet cement on my body, my brain a heavy fog. I am awake and conscious, but my body feels dead. I know what is happening but can do nothing to stop it. I have no voice or choice but to submit and pray that it ends soon.”
MMA Fighting reports that she changed her last name from Sletten to VanZant because the kids at school nicknamed her "Paige Slutton."
Once, she came home and found condoms hung from the trees around her house “like Christmas ornaments."
She got a new lease on life after her family moved from Oregon to Nevada.
“A huge reason I’m getting the book out is because I want to be an advocate for anti-bullying, I want to be an advocate,” VanZant told MMA Fighting. "That’s the main wave I want to start from this. The hardest thing for me was the bullies. That just really sunk me even lower, that no one was even there for me.”
