Keyshia Cole's biological mother, Frankie Lons, has died, passing away on her birthday after a several-decades-long struggle with addiction.
The R&B singer's brother, Sam, tells us ... Frankie overdosed at her Oakland home Sunday ... the same day she was celebrating her 61st birthday, when she apparently took drugs while partying - relapsing on what we're told was a long, hard-fought journey to sobriety.
Sam says he was checking in with Frankie daily, trying to help her stay clean ... a well-documented battle that Keyshia and co. had captured and shared publicly in recent years ... via television, social media and other channels.
Sam also says the family wants the world to remember Frankie as someone who loved her kids, and who wanted her children to be together ... despite their turbulent history.
Keyshia was given up by Frankie & her biological father, Virgil Hunter, for adoption at a very young age -- she ended up being raised by family friends & reunited with her birth parents later in life as an adult -- after she'd hit it big on the music scene.
Their family dynamic is one Keyshia actually filmed for reality TV on BET -- featuring a few different shows -- with the main series being "Keyshia Cole My New Life" ... on which Frankie cameoed often, & where the mom & daughter duo shared many heart-to-hearts.
Keyshia was also quite vocal on her mother's addiction struggles ... keeping tabs on her checking into rehab & encouraging her to stay on the straight & narrow - posting photos & videos of her mom before her time at a facility & cheering on her success.
As of March of last year, Frankie hit a huge benchmark ... staying 60 days sober, something her daughter was proud to share with her IG fans & followers. She has yet to comment on her mother's death.

A future is envisioned where Americans watch people kill each other on television. Well, the future is here. But it’s even more disturbing than the Science Fiction. Right now one of the more popular entertainments for many of us is watching children and young adults kill each other on the internet.
Child killers and children who kill are music stars, like, apparently, King Von. Think about that, murdering children is part of the backdrop of parts of pop music. And if you help solve one of these child murders by testifying.. Like Pop hunna of “Corvette” fame, then you are the bad person, not the killer. Personally, I’m not very sentimental at this point in my life, but I just want the rest of you to live in the reality you’ve created.
Now, we already knew that King Von was killed on camera by Lil Tim down in Atlanta, but we now know that the Chicago Police consider King Von to definitely be the killer of Gakirah Barnes aka K.I. the Shoota.
Speculation about the 2014 murder of 17-year-old Gakirah "K.I." BarnesO-Block, the teenage girl alleged assassin for the Gangster Disciples- the ones who beef with O Block and OTF. The teenager was reportedly responsible for the killing of more than a dozen people, according to the more lurid rumors, as a member of the Gangster Disciples in Chicago before being gunned down by a 'hooded figure'.
Now new information has been released by Chicago Police Department about Barnes's case and it has reportedly named who they believe is the one to have pulled the trigger.
In the documents, it reportedly shows that witnesses have named rapper King Von, who was thought to be a member of the Black Disciples, as the alleged shooter.
The document reportedly states: "An unknown M/1 wearing a Grey Hoodie and Blue jeans approached the victims.
"The unknown offender then produced a handgun and began firing in the direction of the victims, striking all three.
"The unknown offender then was observed entering an unknown vehicle making good his escape." In the documents, police also state that the "investigation revealed that the victim was killed by Dayvon Bennett."
Bennett is the real name of King Von and the rapper has also been "positively identified" as the "offender".
In this episode of "People's Party With Talib Kweli," Kweli and Jasmin Leigh sit down with rapper, writer, author and poet:
LADY LONDON
Here's what we got into with one of today's most respected lyricists:
• DJ Clark Kent being a father figure to her since she was two years old. • Befriending rapper Skyzoo at a cypher in Charlotte, NC. • Her close relationship with her mom and the stigma of teenage mothers. • Lauren London and Nipsey Hussle being a true LA love story. • Attending Howard University being a pivotal moment in her life. • Record deals and student loans being similar and going independent. • Talib's take on the difference between an emcee and an artist. • Her books -- 'TRUTH: The Novel' and 'SIN: Truth, The Sequel'. • Discussion of her tracks 'Girls Need Love' and 'Money Over'. • Social media glorifying toxic relationships. • Feeling the pressure of not disappointing her fans. • Women not being taken seriously in the industry. • How she handled her freestyle on Sway’s Universe. • Being the niece of Chino XL. • Jean Grae's excellence as one of the GOATS. • A full recital of her BLM freestyle aired on BET. • Why so many clout chase instead of taking the time to perfect their craft. • What we can look forward to next from Lady London.

A Louisiana man was cited for criminal mischief and trespassing after he jumped into an alligator-infested river because he was "bored" while sitting in traffic.
26-year-old Jimmy Ivan Jennings sparked an hours-long search and rescue effort after he jumped into the Atchafalaya river from a span bridge that is part of interstate 10. Speaking to New York Daily News, Jennings said he now realizes he's lucky to be alive. "I started going under and almost drowned a few times. I really and truly thought it was the end of my time. I asked God for forgiveness. I forgave everyone in my life. It was hectic," he told the outlet.
Jennings recounted how he had been stuck in a traffic jam for over two hours following a multi-car collision up ahead. His boredom inspired a rather risky plan – he would jump from the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge into the river, swim quickly back to shore, and jump back into his friend's car. "We were bored inside the truck... I looked down at the water, and it didn't seem too far. As soon as my fingertips came off that side, I was like, 'Oh my god, this was the stupidest idea,'" he told the Daily News.
Footage of Jennings plunging into the river went viral, as he was seen taking a running jump before hopping over the barrier with his fingertips and crashing down into the water. He was reportedly forced to remain in the alligator-infested river for almost three hours as the rescue team was delayed.
"I was just high on life. Everything was going my way and I've seen people do it before only I remembered after I jumped that was in movies," he recounted on Facebook. "Once I hit the water, my mouth busted open and I hurt my left arm. I tried to swim to the shore, but the current was too strong. An hour and a half in, I was so tired of swimming. My left arm went out. I turned onto my back and would push with my right hand and my legs whenever I went under. I was praying the entire time."
Jennings somehow managed to swim against the current and crawled back ashore of a small island. He then borrowed a boat in order to reach the mainland, where authorities placed him in handcuffs. "They got me with criminal mischief and some other charges. It was crazy to do what I did. But after the fact, after realizing it was a bad idea, everything else I did was in pure survival mode," the man from Lafayette, Louisiana said, promising to never try something like this in the future. "I don't even want to swim anymore," he said.

MARIANNA, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida sheriff’s deputy received a 12-year prison sentence for planting drugs inside drivers’ cars during traffic stops and then arresting them.
Former Jackson County deputy Zachary Wester, 28, did not speak at Tuesday’s hearing. He was convicted in May on 19 of 67 counts, including racketeering, official misconduct, fabricating evidence, perjury, false imprisonment & possession of controlled substances & drug paraphernalia.
Internal affairs investigators found the drugs hidden inside Wester’s patrol car in the summer of 2018, shortly before he was suspended. Prosecutors say it was ready-to-plant evidence that Wester used during his traffic stops. Body camera video also showed Wester holding what appeared to be baggies filled with drugs surreptitiously before searching cars after stopping them.
Prosecutors had to drop charges in nearly 120 cases involving Wester that occurred between 2016 & 2018 because of the accusations that he planted evidence.
Prosecutor Tom Williams had asked Circuit Judge James Goodman to sentence Wester to 15 years, saying he committed “an egregious breach of the public’s trust.”
“People voluntarily grant their government awesome powers they deem necessary for public safety & protection,” he said. “With that great power comes great responsibility. The defendant made choices to violate that trust and committed crimes against those people he was sworn to protect.”
Teresa Odom, one of Wester’s victims, told the judge the deputy had ruined her reputation and deprived her of time with her grandchild. Wester had stopped her for a defective brake light in 2018 & asked for permission to search her truck. She agreed. He claimed he found a baggie of methamphetamine in her purse — but body camera video showed him palming a bag before beginning his search.
Odom, who vehemently denied the drugs were hers when confronted by Wester, later pleaded no contest & received four years probation. That conviction has been thrown out.
“You robbed me of my credibility & being a mother & grandmother over the last two & a half years,” she said. “I wish you no ill will. But you’ll never know what you did to me until you have children of your own.”
Wester’s wife Rebecca & others begged Judge Goodman for leniency, saying he is a good, churchgoing man who volunteers in his community. More than 50 people sent letters to the judge in support of Wester.
“When that career ended, suddenly I watched a part of him and myself as well die,” Rebecca Wester said. “This blow is one that will not be overcome quickly, and honestly one we may never overcome. The Zach that is in the court before you today is a mighty man of God. Has been greatly missed, but the place he has been missed the most is in our home.”
Jackson County is located in the Florida Panhandle, northwest of Tallahassee.
Rapper SpotemGottem, scheduled to perform next weekend at the annual Rolling Loud Festival, was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Thursday while inside an Aventura hotel room.
The 19-year-old rapper from Jacksonville, whose real name is Nehemiah Harden, faces several charges including aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and accessory after the fact to a felony.
Marshals entered Harden’s room, located at the hotel at 20805 Biscayne Boulevard, just before 9:30 a.m. with an arrest warrant.
Harden was laying in bed at the time of his arrest with an AK-47 pistol next to him, according to an arrest report.
The warrant was for a case in June, where Harden allegedly was in a car with several friends when they broke the gate at a parking garage located near 10th Street and Collins Avenue. Harden reportedly pulled out a semi-automatic weapon at a person who tried to stop the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The rapper, who is best known for his 2020 hit single “Beat Box”, is scheduled to perform next weekend at the three-day hip hop music festival at Hard Rock Stadium.

"Devil On My Back" featuring Dave East is the new single off of the forthcoming album from Retch and super producer V Don titled "Gone Til Autumn," which drops on 8-6-2021.
(CNN) Biz Markie, who infused his music with so much fun and humor that he became known as "The Clown Prince of Hip Hop," has died, his manager, Jenni Izumi, confirmed to CNN.
He was 57.
"Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years," Izumi said in a written statement.
Beloved in the music industry for his lighthearted persona, Biz Markie even had a dance named for him.
Born Marcel Hall in New York City, he began rapping in local clubs when he met hip hop producer Marley Marl in 1985.
That meeting led to Biz Markie working as a human beatbox with artists MC Shan and Roxanne Shanté.
In his spare time, Hall recorded demos and in 1988, he secured a deal with the Cold Chillin' label to release his debut album, "Goin' Off."
Radio soon caught on and the album launched hits with "Vapors" and "Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz."
The following year, his album "The Biz Never Sleeps" went gold, buoyed by what would be his biggest hit, "Just A Friend."
His playful, sad sack persona was in direct contrast to some of the harder core hip hop that had become popular in the late 1980s.
Honing his DJ skills, he soon became known as much for rocking the party as rocking the mic.
He also expanded his career to include acting, appearing in several films and TV shows, including "Men in Black II," as a narrator on the adult puppet show "Crank Yankers," and on the children's series "Yo Gabba Gabba!" with his "Biz's Beat of the Day."
